About the smoothness in Jelly Bean ... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I do find scrolling in such is smoother than previous versions of Android, but the micro lag is STILL here. I don't understand how people say its butterysmooth when its not even near the smoothness level of WP and iOS.
Jelly Bean is smooth in apps like the stock contacts list, call app etc, but web browsing is still a bit choppy, YouTube app is just as laggy, the same with Google plus.
I start to wonder if Android will ever loose this laggyness.

Cyanogen should help towards that once the source out. Cm9 is so much smoother than stock 4.04.
As far as iOS goes a lot of apps have that same stutter lag. The Facebook app is horrible on my moms work iPad 3.

I agree there is a small micro lag sometimes, but it is pretty much a non-issue, so I don't worry about it.

Typical Android fan comment. iOS is much another than Android and it's disappointing. I'd rather accept it and demand improvement than deny it and live with the lag...

You're grading your experience on a OS that's not even fully released yet. Smh.

I only get the lag in apps. XDA app is one. Facebook isn't.

Its not the iPad with the lag, its just the new facebook updates, I've noticed facebook get even more laggier than before.
I don't seem to notice the lag compared to ICS it's like... I dno... Buttery smooth?

What's this fixation with smoothness? Yeah iOS has "smooth" scrolling, but so what? You can't do even half the stuff we can do with Android.
Yeah you know what, the Mini runs buttery smooth, but it will never be a Ferrari. Bam!

On my Galaxy nexus "Jelly Bean" is not lag on YouTube, browser and on Google+, I don't even use google +, just tested once and it's not laggy..
Dolphin browser HD and Chrome is much slower than stock browser on my Gnex..
sometimes when I open the Google/google now app it's lags a little bit when I have some opther apps opened, but not any other lag..

Exactly. I can agree with you there and even had the 4S.

Today I learned that there are Apple fanboys lurking and commenting on this forum.

I came from the iPhone 4S and although its very smooth, it still stutters / hesitates from time to time when performing certain actions, just like Jellybean. And dont get me started on the facebook app... iOS version is much more stuttery than Android version (GPU accelerated of course)
I came from the iPhone 4S and I consider that each has its advantages, but now that i own a Gnex with JB, general lag is not one of them on either side. Just as pleasing in my experience
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

This thread reminds me of my youth. "mom, I got 98 in my exam" "why didn't you get 100? If other kids can, why can't you?". ****ing annoying.
That said, i do get a hint of lag scrolling through the widgets in the app drawer. And that's about it.
I'm using bixsie v2 with franco 217 - 512gpu, 384-1342 with interactive governor.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus.

The "iOS is laggy too" argument from android fans is logically flawed.
iOS isn't 100% smooth, but it's certainly smoother than JB.
The main issue is not JB itself (on newer android devices like Nexus 7, JB and gapps are ALMOST as smooth as iOS on iPad3/iPhone4s), but it's old third party apps that don't utilize the latest improvements in ICS and JB (like gpu rendering) properly.
Because iOS has had good gpu rendering for 3rd party apps since its beginning, laggy iOS apps are a lot less common.

I have no lag whatsoever. Not once have I scoffed or rolled my eyes at my phone after flashing bigxie's JB. Not sure what JB version you're running but maybe a complete/thorough wipe will help? Any apps hogging resources?
Edit: Is it just me or does it seem like data issues could be confused for "lag"?

Yup believe it...ios stutters just like android...only thing is android actually performs many more tasks than ios does...a shame really....all this time android has been focusing on real multitasking.....and alot of bling in animations and transitions.....after all tjis time it still outperforms ios...and JB is the first time in awhile that there has been software optimizations

i think the OP is up in smokes
this phone is faster that any of the old Hummingbird based phones (i9000, vibrant, Nexus S, captivate, etc)
just remove all the Tmo crapware then it'll be butter smooth
It can be a bit choppy or of the box but I found it good
Flash juggernaut and bullet kernel if you would like to get the most out of your phone right note. It Is a very smooth experience
Bullet really solved most of the.choppiness for me atleast
You will not be disappointed
That is my opinion but many will call it fact

It does get way smoother when debloated, but some of the choppiness won't quite go away. I think there's something going on in the drivers or something.

The dual core processor in our GS2 is definitely faster and more efficient than the Vibrant's Hummingbird processor. I'm surprised that you said the Vibrant feels faster and smoother than our phone. Is the Vibrant rooted? A stock Vibrant can never feel no where near as fast and smooth as this phone especially with the stock RFS file system Samsung used to use back then on the first set of Galaxy S devices.
The issue with our device is the lack of proper optimization with the software for our processor so you'll notice occasional lag bit nothing as bad as RFS.

the stock Galaxy S family is slow as molasses, but once rooted and with a good polished custom ROM it's as fast as a SGS2
the SGS2-T989 stock is way faster than anything i've ever seen before coming out of the box from the manufacturer
i was not happy with the out of the box experience of i9000, vibrant, captiave, Nexus S
It has its moments when stock. But its much faster than both my vibrant and g2x IMHO.

The launcher you use makes a difference too. I'm using QQ launcher. Got tired of touchwiz dropped it like a bad habit.
With QQ, I never have any slowdown...
I'm rooted on the stock ROM by the way but had the phone like this unrooted also with no problems
i'm using Go Launcher EX, with all the effects and animations ON, same with the stock Android, enabled all the Animations and special effects, on top of that install Spare Parts to enable the hidden special effects
all running butter smooth
i did read few people saying they disabled animation to not have those micro lags, but never seen or noticed one yet

But if we are talking Motoblur, Sense and TouchWizz....yah Ill take the wizz.
Personally, I think the "official" ICS (LPQ) for the SGS2 seems more like an alpha build than a final product. CM9 nightly version for the i9100 feels more stable than Samsung's LPQ release.
I think I'd just stick with Gingerbread, rather than upgrade to Samsung's ICS builds.
obviously ICS is better the look the feel the speed

Yes... Another ICS thread!
Much like most of us, I've gotten fed up with the ICS thread phenomenon..
However, I wanted to post this thread for the veterans and Devs.
Of course those of us in the know have been watching the activity escalate in the online feeds, and I have to say it's exciting to see the ramping up of releases and leaks..
We are at the threshold of real ICS goodness. I for one have been watching Kevin's Nova Launcher, since I am not a big fan of TouchWiz. Don't get me wrong, Samsung is impressive at coding.. it's functional and beautiful but too too slow and not enough customization for us hardcore themers.. With a few custom apps I see a gorgeous, lightning fast, better than Vanilla ICS experience coming.
Thoughts?

My thoughts: I don't get the big deal over ICS Now, people running WP7 on the other hand...I can see why they get jacked about OS updates - WP7 sucks exponentially less with each one
I can understand people not liking TouchWiz because of the lack of customization and other reasons but not for being too slow. When I first got my S2 I thought it was blazing fast. OP you really think TouchWiz is too slow?

I've heard through a very reputable source that Samsung coded Touchwiz so deep it utilizes the on chip GPU verses all the other launchers uses up precious phone resources. Touchwiz was "made" for the hardware of this phone.
Can someone please verify this.

i think its more the UI that most people don't like. ICS is so much prettier and smoother. for me, give me AOSP and I'll decide how I want my phone to look.
But the biggest reason I don't like TW or Sense or any of those custom UI's is cuz it just delays OS updates that much more cuz of that crap. When the AOSP version does everything the Custom ones do....what do I need the custom one for?

Slowdown
Yes, I have the same problem too.
Is not just lag, is slowdowns during gameplay. And the swipe problems I have it too, but I think is related with the slowdown, it takes more time to react so you loose.
If you have play on an iPhone you can notice the difference, is smoother.

[Q] 4.1 vs 4.2 Performance?

What's everyone's opinion on the performance difference between 4.1 and 4.2? So far my benchmark score are a little lower but the phone feels smoother. Of course I'm also drunk. Could be a factor.
Mine stutters a lot after the update, not sure what's causing it.
I don't see 4.2 as any faster, or slower than 4.1.

HELP slow and laggy phone!

Recently my phone had been very laggy and the cpu has been heating up during very easy tasks such as browsing the web or playing a game like angry birds, sometimes to the point where the phone would shut down. Many processes are slow such as opening apps or using the internet and sometimes even scrolling through my home screens can be glitchy. I am currently running Jedi mind trick JB 5 and sometimes I overclock the CPU. Does anyone know what is going on and how I can fix this problem?

Honestly I just don't like the ui, there are generally more bugs in asop, as its usually based off the newest leaks, like all nexus devices, there more open to bug because Google updates them superfast, as far as bloat and things in twiz, that's an easy fix, I think if u take two roms one twiz one asop, debloat both, and run them side by side the only real difference is the ui, twiz may be a tiny bit slower, but I can live with that, plus I'm a Sammy guy, won't buy any other device lol, there are some asop roms I like though, both are amazing, and far ahead of iOS and sense, all cones down to preference I guess
