Is there a setting for google maps so that it turns to the same direction I'm facing rather than always north? In other words, the map would line up with the real world. I'd like this to work even when I don't have a data connection. I thought google nav would do this, but I can't get it to work properly offline.
You need to have a GPS lock before the maps turn according to the direction you are facing.
Then press the small square icon with a compass image(i think) at the top right of the map.

When I have a GPS lock and am in google maps, the small square icon with the compass image in the upper right just moves the map so that the blue my location arrow is in the center of the screen.
First tap should change it to a compass, second tap will do what you want...
That did it

Hey guy's I know the 3GS uses the digital compass to rotate the map so it's direction up/forward, I can't seem to find that for the Desire, just wondered if anyone knew how to do it??
IIRC you can turn the compass on in the labs option.
I can't see in on my T-Mobile version, updated to Maps 4.1.0
Cant see it on mine either (T-Mobile)
i think he means my location button in labs mine shows a compass arrow
It was a labs option on G1... not on desire seems. does the arrowhead icon not rotate with the phone as you would expect a compas to do? Seems to on mine.
it does rotate on mine n1 that is
What I mean is that on the iPhone when you've got the map up it spins so that the direction your driving or walking etc is straight up like most sat nav's do,
The desire just has a pointer showing your direction but doesn't turn the map around so it might show you travelling down or left or right.

that's strange..... seems weird that it wont do that. I was watching a video on the HD2 using google maps and the compass and that definitely turned the map as you moved.
The legend can do it, so surely your desire can!

Street view compass mode works fine on the desire, theres no compass mode for the position of the map in birds eye view though.
Rotate screen
hi To auto rotate you need to select this option from Programs, Sound and display

This has nothing to do with Google Maps. This just rotates the display from portrait to landscape.
I am using the newest version of Google navigation in Amsterdam. I cannot find how to enable Street View in it. The website states it should be possible to navigate with street view. They say you should tap the screen twice to enable. I rooted the phone and removed maps completely and then reinstalled from the market, but no luck.
Try click and holding the map, and when the address pops up, click it so you go into the detail view. In that screen, you should see the street view icon on the right.
That is probably in Google Maps, i am referring to Navigation. In navigation when i click and hold the map in navigation nothing happens.
It seems it really is not there anymore. Here you can read some answer, somebody already asked google and they are working on it as it seems:

Whenever I use gps on Google Maps, the location icon shows the direction backwards being opposite from the tip of the phone direction that I'm pointing at. It seems like I'm walking backwards on the map. Any help pls?
In my Huawei Watch, when I go to google map, it shows wrong direction. it's strange that when I turn right, map turn left. I tried to calibrate the compass by rotating the watch in all axis, but get no luck.
Is there any way to fix this?
From everything I've read, it doesn't have a compass.

So how it works? it shows direction but in a wrong way that I think it mean it has compass but need calibration. I read somewhere someone said it use phone compass but It work even if phone is disconnected.
JimSmith94 is right, the Huawei Watch does not have a compass. It uses the accelerometer/gyro information to detect relative movement which will cause the rotation. But there is no way it can detect where north is and a calibration is not possible.
It is also not possible to use the phone compass information as both devices can be moved and rotated completely independedn from each other, so the phone orientation is not helpful for the watch.
As far as I've read this issue is addressed in the latest firmware update (1.5) that is currently rolling out for our watch. Unfortunately I have not received it yet, so I can't report what they actually improved here, maybe they disabled it completely.
The item I'm refering to is from a Japanese changelist:
"Googleマップの回転方向に関する問題を解消。"
The online translation for this is:
"Solve problems related to the direction of rotation of the Google map."
Let's see

I can verify that at the very least, they fixed Google Map rotation, which is nice. However this does not completely fix the issue that Huawei chose to implement the cheaper 6-axis sensor (like the Asus Zenwatch 2), leaving us without a magnetometer therefore map/compass apps/watch faces that cannot fully function.
To answer your question, Behzadsh, the watch does not have a compass (magnetometer) therefore apps and watch faces that depend on a compass will not work as intended.
Thank you guys for your information
Is there anyone herecommend that was able to decrease the vibration motor?

When You turn right the map will rotate left. It is normal!

I mean when I turn clockwise, the direction on map turns anticlockwise. for example if I turn from north to east the map direction turns from north to west
I haven't this issue anymore since android wear 1.5

When you are facing "North" and you rotate your body (or watch) towards the West (rotating counterclockwise - left) the map should rotate clockwise (opposite - right) to position what was "West" on the map to be in front of you.. Basically the map is supposed to rotate to keep what is supposed to be in front of you at the top of the display when using the watch for navigation during a walk, run, or bike trip. If you look at Google Maps on your phone, it should behave the same way when you enter compass mode.

You're right, seems like I described the situation wrong, it did opposite of what you said.
never mind, it has been fixed in android wear 1.5 for me
Does anyone else have this issue?
Maps is open and full screen, I'm driving somewhere and I need to ask Google a question. I used to say 'OK Google where's the nearest gas station', I would then see gas stations on my route.
Now when I say OK Google, Maps closes down to a small floating screen, and Google doesn't answer my question.
I've done some testing and the issue only happens when the phone is landscape. I keep my phone in landscape when in my car and cannot change this.
I never had this issue up until 4-6 weeks ago,
When in portrait and I say 'OK Google' I get a bar at the bottom with the Google Voice icon displayed, see screenshot with yellow arrow.
However In landscape that bar doesn't show and saying ok Google refund me to the home screen
I'm sure that bar at the bottom is 'driving mode'. I turned off driving mode, however now my issue appears in portrait and landscape!
I look to have resolved it! Uninstalling the Google app from Play Store, then clicking 'Update', then restarting phone.
Then go into Google app>settings>voice>Voice Match> Enable hey Google. I now noticed the white bar shown in the attached was showing. I then clicked the blue bar, something like 'enable more features'.
Now the behaviour is that I'm in maps full screen (portrait or landscape) I say OK Google, the same thing happens before where it returns me to home screen and minimises maps to a little floatingng window, however I see the white bar, I say my request 'find Gas station', and make comes up full screen and showed my gas stations on my route!
Darn it, its reverted back to how it was!
