Hello fellow hox xda people... I am very stuck in this situation, gutted because I love my hox.
It started when I lost my phone signal for a few hours.. stupidly in a panic I tried to flash stock recovery to try and fix it.. then I noticed my imei and baseband showing as "unknown".. I have relocked and run the ruu but the problem still remains.. I fear u have somehow corrupted the radio partition...
It isn't the sim because that works in another phone, I have tried another sim but still no signal.
I sent it to HTC to repair under warranty but because it had been relocked the won't touch it without me paying £150 to replace main board..
Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts?
I am waiting for the next official update to come and see if writing the new radio will fix it...

Seems like you've screwed your IMEI. This happened to me on the SGS2 where my EFS got corrupted luckily I had saved my EFS and managed to flash it back.
Not sure if this method also applies to HTC products, or it could be your phone has a hardware fault. If they are trying to charge you then nothing you can do I'm afraid then just cough up especially if it is a corrupted EFS.
Edit : EFS only applies to the Samsung phones, seems like your radio is screwed, if you still have your phone there is a radio thread on the development section, flash a radio again and it might just restore it back.

Thank-you for your reply... I did notice similar problems with gs2 when doing research on Google. I have looked at the radio which leads me to think I may be up the proverbial creak... I did try flashing the new leaked radio but with no luck... I do have quite a bit of blind faith in the up coming official update... is there a way of formatting the radio partition and the ruu re-writing it?

We can't really do anything in regards to that as we have no S-OFF. Where we can flash radios and rils. Still clueless how it would have damaged it as we don't have S-OFF.

Just relock your bootloader, flash with an RUU (branded or unbranded) and everything should be fine. This kind of thing happens once in a while. It happened with my S II and Sensation back in the day
Hi, and thank-you for your response. I have tried that numerous time but still have the same problem, I have flashed the leaked radio too on various roms to no avail..

That's very odd. That's what I've always done when my IMEI or baseband goes missing. Flashing the official OEM ROM usually writes the ROM, kernel and the baseband if I'm not mistaken. Kinda like when you flash a OEM firmware to the iPhone. It writes over everything hence why you have to use a custom ROM that doesn't update the baseband if you want to preserve your SIM unlock.
I installed Android Revolution HD 7.2.1 the other day (nice ROM by the way). Decided I wanted the benfits of Francos r12 kernel. Flashed it and then had no GSM signal. Baseband and IMEI were both unknown. Thought to myself "f*^k here we go again".
Downloaded this. Went back into the bootloader. Relocked it via adb. Then whilst still in the bootloader, I clicked on the RUU that I downloaded from here.
Once everything booted back up, had GSM, IMEI and baseband back. Proceeded to unlock the bootloader and flash ARDH 7.2.1 again but left out Francos kernel for the time being lol.
More for the legal heads etc. here, but HTC-Dev's website states:
Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.
If you should require support, please feel free to contact us via the support section of our website, http://www.htc.com

It specifically says security is left on to protect the radio etc. - surely this should then be covered by HTC as, according to them, there's no way we could break it. The way I see it, either their 'security' didn't work, or the problem isn't caused by a bootloader unlock?
Hahaha! I couldn't help it. I just had to flash Francos r12 kernel again and what do you know? No IMEI and baseband. All good though. Restored from a nand backup I did earlier this evening and all is well again. Downloaded the kernel again just to make sure the md5 wasn't bung, flashed and same thing happened again. So when you get your HOX working again, don't flash Francos r12 kernel lol.

That applies to every device apart from, maybe, Tegra3. The radio might be accessible.
have the same insuee... yesterday i pick my phone and it has no signal...i think no problem reboot the phone...and no changes.. after i see that imei is unknown and baseband too... the phone with or without sim when i open sim slot says that has a problem to see the sim.. root relock flash stock and other roms is not helped -.-
sorry for my english guys.. but seriosly i tryed a lot of things nothing to do -.-
now i'm downloading an old RUU for flash it to change the radio...
If I'm not mistaken you can't roll back the radio using an old ruu.. I think I tried but it failed. I have also flashed the latest ota update but that didn't work either.. beginning to think its hardware as the weekend before it first happen it was dropped onto its screen from chair height with no immediate problems or damage... really struggling with this..

Not trying to start a flame war or anything, but this is why I stopped buying HTC phones and went with the S3. Because ever since they started with this HTCDev garbage, modding your phone became ridiculously difficult.
no way need s-off to downgrade hboot... s-off is not possible for now.. w/o javacard......i don't have idea what to do.. then f-.ck all.. drop my hand down and monday send my phone to htc and cross the fingers for free repair...
p.s. i think..to go to an phone store and say that i wanna see an one x white/grey and change it accendentely.. (stupid and illegal but can work )
edit: it's hardware fault i think..

Good afternoon:
Recently my sister in law gave me his Desire so I could take a look at it.
She says the phone started to freeze a lot and random reboots. Then the phone won't switch on at all, when it did it showed a white screen (I suspect she talks about the bootloader one). Next the phone never booted again, showing the htc screen with four exclamation triangles in the corners.
She is not an experienced user at all, the phone is a Vodafone one, unlocked.
It had the latest Vodafone stock rom installed. The phone doesn't have root, S-OFF or a gold card.
I tried to flash it with the latest Vodafone UK ruu and the gingerbread one from Shipped Roms and it fails with an error 152.
If I flash those roms with fastboot I get a FAILED (remote: 51 partition update fail).
Both methods give me a RADIO_V2 - Fail-PU.
We can't send the phone to HTC because the company doesn't even exist in Argentina. Also the phone its from Spain, so we have no warranty at all.
Is there any hope?. I've tried searching the web but I had no luck.
Thanks in advance.

As I said we have no HTC repair service in Argentina.
All I can do is triying to fix it through the computer or throw it away u_u.
Can't I erase the radio and reflash it?. Do I need S-OFF to do that?.
can u flash a recovery

I know you have no HTC. But that is only option.
Throw it in the bin or sell for spares maybe then. You can't fix broken device without s-off, you can't s-off without working device.
Even if s-off, fix is very unlikely. HTC swap out the mother board when this happens, so nothing you can do

You will laugh a lot when you know how I fixed it.
I had another Desire with its digitizer cracked. It was from a friend who dropped it.
I just swapped the motherboards.
The dissasembly and assembly videos in Youtube were very usefull .
It was a lot of fun.
Thank you very much for all your help .
A good question
Wait a minute, how she can prevent this from happening again?.
She just was using his phone as a normal user. The phone was plain stock.
Excellent.
Well you can't prevent it if she didn't.do anything to cause it. It was probably destined to go faulty from the start

Well, thanks guys.

Just in case this issue appears again in the future.
I am not sure this is the place to post this but I certainly hope so.
I have researched the matter a little before posting.
I got my Desire from a friend. He has been using it for over a year.
Seems he didn't modify anything and it still has the original system but am not sure. If someone can tell me where to find this info...
If I leave the phone on without using it it stays on but if I use it, like browsing or gps or any other program, even just downloading stuff from MArket, the phone restarts after 15 minutes and if I don't take out the battery for a few minutes it loops restarts.
Once the battery is removed for a few minutes the phone restarts normally.
from what I read it may be a problem with the board heating?
Is there a way to test that? to diagnose a phone?
Thanks for any help
Hey mate,
If you're running on a stock rom there's something wrong with the hardware. Unless you've got all the spare parts you can fix the phone yourself, otherwise it has to be repaired. Soz

You should ask your friend if he has bought the phone from a store or if he has rooted it before. Otherwise you have to hand it in to the repair centre

Generally you can tell by going to settings/about phone and looking at the software number and kernel version. If you see any strange names in these areas, like Nova-lite, Grim Reaper ver 1, etc, it is generally a modified rom.
Also, you can look in your apps for an app called Superuser. This is a sign of a rooted phone.
Additionally, if you power down the device, you should be able to boot into Recovery (if it is installed), by holding Vol- and Pwr. If you get into the boot, and select the "recovery" option, and you get a display with options like Install zip from SD, Wipes, Formats, etc, then this is a custom recovery.
My guess, would be, if the device is stock, Run an RUU Rom, and see if it will install a fresh OS. This may fix your issue. Corruption in the OS can definately cause the issue you describe.
The best sign should actually be to boot into bootloader (power off - HOLD volume down + power until white screen pops up) In the left upper corner it should say like:
"BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON". If it says "S-OFF" your phone has probably been rooted before

I'd bet money that most Rooted Bravo's are still S-On...not reliable.
OP, do you have the "Super User" or "SU" app installed? If yes your phone is rooted and likely running a custom ROM.

Also, don't throw your money away, alpharev are one of the first bravo HBOOT flashers. This is taken from their site:
HTC implemented security on their newer generation phones. This flag, called @secuflag, controls whether your phone has it's NAND or flash unlocked. Most noticeably, S-ON (security on) will read-lock your /system and /recovery partition, to name a few. Also, secuflag controls whether zip files being flashed through recovery or fastboot, are signed by HTC.
The now notorious S-OFF (security off) will disable this NAND security. Since we are unable to access the Radio NVRAM itself (where secuflag is stored), we turned our attention to HBOOT.
AlphaRev has patched HBOOT images for several phones, whereas the HTC Desire (GSM) was our first victim.
I recommend he flashes through HTC themselves

NEVER do that, or you'll have to downgrade later.
I had similar problems with my stock desire, update fixed it. So it might not be hardware related. Try rooting and using a custom rom and see if it persists. If so, it ist hardware related and you'll have to send it in (unroot before), if not, it's software and you can just keep your custom rom.
And, before you ask, there are ca. 100 threads on what the best rom might be. Just try any one from the Desire Index (sticky in dev section).
As you said, it might not be hardware related but what does it matter? If the official update doesnt help and he has to root it, it won't matter since he's able to flash stock roms then...
Sent from my HTC Desire
He will certainly not brick it with the official update and it's a lot easier to skip the rooting part if you're not common with it
Sent from my HTC Desire
If you want to flash the official gingerbread rom from HTC click here: http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152 . This will surely NOT brick your phone. It's the latest official for desire too.
Sure it's not a particular app that's causing it? Also, perhaps underclock the CPU and see if that improves stability. If it's anything like desktop processors, they can degrade over time and cause instability (usually more noticable when the CPU is heavily overclocked, but it still happens regardless)
Ah well,i thought you meant unlocking the bootloader through the htc tool. For that is definitely not recommended. RUU should be no problem.

So i wanted to root my friends WFS (2.13.401.2), but somehow he didn't get OTA HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3 and for proceeding in HTC-dev i needed that 401.3 version, so i downloaded it from Footbal's thread with shipped ROMs RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35.3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989_signed.exe, connected, started the update process, everything went fine, the "CONGRATULATIONS! no vibrations, just flashing backlight on black screen...
And I thought RUU is like 99.9% safe, seems not.

I have a question.... can i repair it (get new one) by my warranty ? I think that it is not my fault, and in RUU there was no signs of text that warns you "we are not responsible if you brick it" only that RUU will wipe all your data.
If I understand correctly then that "RUU.exe" package does the same as OTA update, right ? And how "official" are those "RUU.exe" packages and can i get them somehow from HTC.com or htc-dev.com ?

Got that phone back just about a week ago, and also as in your case, they replaced the motherboard (it is said so in warranty list, didn't checked it, it works and it's enough )
So we got 2 phones that were repaired by warranty after RUU update. So if you have the same problem, just relax and send it to your dealer
SOLVED
Dear all,
I really need some serious help here. I have a HTC One X (International version) purchased from the UK and I am presently in India. The phone is rooted and here are the vital stats:
Hboot: 1.12
CID: HTC_001
Android: 4.0.4
HTC Sense: 4.1
Software: Renovate
HTC SDk API: 4.23
HTC Extension version: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_20
Kernel version: #33 SMP PREEMPT
Radio/Baseband: 2.1204.135.20
Build: 2.17.401.2
So, the issue is that i receive no network...no service. The SIM card is working fine and I tried different cards with the same result. I get a decent signal in areas with a strong signal but receive NO signal in areas with a relatively weak signal (not all that weak, my iPhone works just fine). I guess it must be something to do with radio/baseband. I tried to flash some other radios (for India) but nothing helps. Some one advised to use a stable ROM with a newer baseband but for doing so, I need to upgrade my hboot, which refuses to move from the current 1.12 (to 1.39 as advised by mike of ADR in his thread). FYI, when I flash a new hboot, the cmd prompt remains at 'sending file' for a really long time without any response.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! I am willing to use any ROM to get my phone working properly!
Regards,
Aviram
PS: I've researched and researched before asking this question. My research paid off in a way that I am not a NOOB anymore!

UPDATE:
Managed to update the hboot to 1.39 and installed a new rom ARHD 18 (Jellybean) with a new baseband: 5.1204.162.29 but the network problem still persists. As I said, I receive a signal where the coverage is very strong but get zero signal where the coverage is relatively weak.
The same SIM works in an iPhone 5 and an S3 where as a different operator's SIM that works with the S3 gives me the same problem in my One X.
Go back to full stock,if the problem won't go away you have to 2 options, or a hardware default or you need a new simcard . I had it replaced once and never had any problems anymore

Thanks for your response. Replacing the SIM card doesn't help as I have already tried different SIM cards. I'll try and figure out on how to go back to full stock. I haven't been able to find the correct RUU (isn't that what is needed?) for my device.
Regards.
If the main version is correct in your OP ? Then you need this ruu

Thanks again for your quick response Mr Hofs. How do I check if the main version is correct in my OP (what is an OP?)? My build number reads '3.14.401.31 CL128187 release-keys'; does this confirm that the RUU file that you directed me to should work fine with my phone and take it back to stock?
As you probably know, the factory phone came with ICS where as this RUU looks like a JB one. I am assuming that this is the latest and the greatest official RUU.
Really appreciate your help.
Regards

Update:
Successfully applied the stock RUU as you suggested Mr.Hofs. The problem still persists. I tried using a couple of other SIM cards too, but face the same problem. I get a normal signal in an area with very strong signal coverage.
Edit :
Nice that the ruu worked.
So you are on full stock jellybean now....could be hardware related, but i really should test it with a new simcard from your provider. I dont know about the costs of a simcard. I asked for a new one back in the day and got it for free ....
Ow and with OP i mean Opening Post (the first one you made in this thread )

Yeah thanks to you for pointing me to the correct RUU! As I said, the problem hasn't been solved but I've learnt so much about Android!
I tried at least three SIMs including a different one for my carrier as well as ones for other carriers...same issue So don't really think getting another SIM will help.
Another question. My bootloader now says 'relocked'...and I am back to stock JB now...will the HTC service center entertain me if I go to them? (They sent me away the last time i went there because I was on a custom ROM and an unlocked bootloader...but 'relocked' clearly indicates that it was unlocked in the past!)
Yes and we cant do anything about the relocked bootloader, this is as stock as you can get.
hi all
sorry im a bit of a noob with things like this, but I tried unlocking a friends htc desire hd to all networks using xtc clip. it went part of the way through and failed. when I rebooted phone, it came up with no sim inserted. so then I tried using a tool called windroid htc desire hd toolkit. I used the "gain s-off method 1" button to do it. that went through and completed fully. but now it still says no sim inserted. I have tried putting tape on the back of the sim to see if that works, but no joy. i have even gone out to buy a new sim card to see if that helps and it still does not recognise it. could this be a radio issue or something else.
current bootloader info is as follows if that helps
*** UNLOCKED ***
ACE PVT ENG S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.85.2425
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-boot

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Read The guide in post #7 in my signature to flash a recovery and a rom if you don't know how to.
Sent from a dream.
Thank you for that guide. It is a very good insight as to what is what.
as for my current problem. have you any idea if that could be my problem. i know in the guide it says the radio is what gives the phone signal, but i am not sure if that effects the reading of the sim card. sorry if i am asking too much.
thanks
Not a problem. Well, the suggestion to flash a rom is just to find out if that will work. It seems that when you were trying to root it, something happened. If flashing a stable rom doesn't fix it, you can try flashing a ruu. That ought to rule out a few things.
Sent from a dream.
ok thank you. i will look in to flashing it with the original manufacturers sofware.
thanks
First, was that sim working in that phone before? Even if you unlock the sim it doesn't mean it will work for all the providers.

i believe it was working as they wanted me to take it off the network they were on and open it to a different one as the reception in their area was very poor for the network they were on. i have since tried numerous other cards and even bought a brand new sim card to see if that works.
The baseband is corrupted. Try reflashing modem.
