Hi everyone !
So i wanted to root my friends WFS (2.13.401.2), but somehow he didn't get OTA HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3 and for proceeding in HTC-dev i needed that 401.3 version, so i downloaded it from Footbal's thread with shipped ROMs RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35.3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989_signed.exe, connected, started the update process, everything went fine, the "CONGRATULATIONS! Update has beed succesfull " window appeared in the end.... but phone is in boot loop...
no vibrations, just flashing backlight on black screen...
And I thought RUU is like 99.9% safe, seems not.
Any suggestions on this ?

I've never done the steps for bootloader unlock but I would advice you continue all of the steps with it in a bootloop and install a ROM afterwards to restore its usability.

I tried to run RUU while he is in that state, but RUU doesen't find it and fails with error (170 i guess)
I have a question.... can i repair it (get new one) by my warranty ? I think that it is not my fault, and in RUU there was no signs of text that warns you "we are not responsible if you brick it" only that RUU will wipe all your data.
If I understand correctly then that "RUU.exe" package does the same as OTA update, right ? And how "official" are those "RUU.exe" packages and can i get them somehow from HTC.com or htc-dev.com ?
They are as official as they get. I would say there is a 50:50 change of getting your money back.

I already wrote about it
I've just had exactly the same problem
Looks as though there may be an issue with that rom on shipped roms. I've noticed afterward that the phone is listed as abd dfksfsafjsdfkklsj during the update process. Can't be good. Any ideas would be much appreciated?
Edit: found this post. Not looking good, could be the radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1536296
Just to update. The phone went away to T Mobile for repair. Looks as though they replaced the motherboard as it has a different IMEI number. On the plus side they did fix it under warranty.

Got that phone back just about a week ago, and also as in your case, they replaced the motherboard (it is said so in warranty list, didn't checked it, it works and it's enough )
So we got 2 phones that were repaired by warranty after RUU update. So if you have the same problem, just relax and send it to your dealer

Good afternoon:
Recently my sister in law gave me his Desire so I could take a look at it.
She says the phone started to freeze a lot and random reboots. Then the phone won't switch on at all, when it did it showed a white screen (I suspect she talks about the bootloader one). Next the phone never booted again, showing the htc screen with four exclamation triangles in the corners.
She is not an experienced user at all, the phone is a Vodafone one, unlocked.
It had the latest Vodafone stock rom installed. The phone doesn't have root, S-OFF or a gold card.
I tried to flash it with the latest Vodafone UK ruu and the gingerbread one from Shipped Roms and it fails with an error 152.
If I flash those roms with fastboot I get a FAILED (remote: 51 partition update fail).
Both methods give me a RADIO_V2 - Fail-PU.
We can't send the phone to HTC because the company doesn't even exist in Argentina. Also the phone its from Spain, so we have no warranty at all.
Is there any hope?. I've tried searching the web but I had no luck.
Thanks in advance.

I know you have no HTC. But that is only option.
Throw it in the bin or sell for spares maybe then. You can't fix broken device without s-off, you can't s-off without working device.
Even if s-off, fix is very unlikely. HTC swap out the mother board when this happens, so nothing you can do

I just swapped the motherboards.

It was a lot of fun.
Thank you very much for all your help .
A good question
Wait a minute, how she can prevent this from happening again?.
She just was using his phone as a normal user. The phone was plain stock.
Excellent.
Well you can't prevent it if she didn't.do anything to cause it. It was probably destined to go faulty from the start

Hello! After unsuccessful update HTC Desire stuck in bootloop. I tried almost everything but nothing.
I tried flashing from RUU but it stucks on 18% Checking Header.
Please help to revive my desire.
There is no detail in this thread. Please supply everything you know.
My friend wanted to flash desire. But something happens and it stuck on the boot loader.
I think that i would repair it. I read much information and i was advised to flash it vie RUU. I tried to flash with WWE rom. But it stuck on 35%. http://ton.mrankalo.net/pics/stuck.png
I didnt know what to do and unplug the usb. And then desire restared and it appeared htc logo with one ! on the every 4 corners.
I downloaded
RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.22.771.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127568_signed
because my friend told me that is is bought from Three UK.
Now it stuck on 20% Checking Header.
That's all.
Please help.
Edit: http://ton.mrankalo.net/pics/desire.jpg
That's the bootloader before my procedures today.
What did your friend flash with?
Best thing I recommend, download 2.3.3 RUU from htcdev.com (Kernel source section).
Then put device in fastboot (back + Power from off) then connect USB and run RUU.
If it hangs at radio and then says fail, may be broken
Almost 10 minutes it's stuck on the same: 35% Updating Radio. No error, nothing.
What about gold card? Can I make it without having access to desire's andriod?
Gold card wont help. If its hanging on radio, sounds like a radio brick. Contact HTC for warranty repair.

Only reason it wont help is you are out of warranty or there isn't an official HTC center where you can have it repaired.
You just say that you are trying to upgrade to the official Gingerbread update and it didn't work as it should.

Well good luck then but like rootSU said, if it says it's failing on the Radio part of the update then the chances of having it fixed yourself is slim.
Like I told you in pm, using another ruu will not help you. Try for warranty. Of course if you use wrong ruu and put something that obviously shouldnt be there and then can't remove it, your warranty is screwed.
Anyway you have my advice. Remaining in this thread will just be.painful for me. best of luck.

True but not everyone has access to RUU's, a lot of suppliers havent put out ones for the 1.28 base so all those who have done an OTA update can no longer use the 1.26 RUU because of the updated HBOOT.

Probably directly from HTC, seeing as he helps them out with things
this method fortunately does NOT work!
Hello fellow hox xda people... I am very stuck in this situation, gutted because I love my hox.
It started when I lost my phone signal for a few hours.. stupidly in a panic I tried to flash stock recovery to try and fix it.. then I noticed my imei and baseband showing as "unknown".. I have relocked and run the ruu but the problem still remains.. I fear u have somehow corrupted the radio partition...
It isn't the sim because that works in another phone, I have tried another sim but still no signal.
I sent it to HTC to repair under warranty but because it had been relocked the won't touch it without me paying £150 to replace main board..
Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts?
I am waiting for the next official update to come and see if writing the new radio will fix it...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Seems like you've screwed your IMEI. This happened to me on the SGS2 where my EFS got corrupted luckily I had saved my EFS and managed to flash it back.
Not sure if this method also applies to HTC products, or it could be your phone has a hardware fault. If they are trying to charge you then nothing you can do I'm afraid then just cough up especially if it is a corrupted EFS.
Edit : EFS only applies to the Samsung phones, seems like your radio is screwed, if you still have your phone there is a radio thread on the development section, flash a radio again and it might just restore it back.

Just relock your bootloader, flash with an RUU (branded or unbranded) and everything should be fine. This kind of thing happens once in a while. It happened with my S II and Sensation back in the day

That's very odd. That's what I've always done when my IMEI or baseband goes missing. Flashing the official OEM ROM usually writes the ROM, kernel and the baseband if I'm not mistaken. Kinda like when you flash a OEM firmware to the iPhone. It writes over everything hence why you have to use a custom ROM that doesn't update the baseband if you want to preserve your SIM unlock.
I installed Android Revolution HD 7.2.1 the other day (nice ROM by the way). Decided I wanted the benfits of Francos r12 kernel. Flashed it and then had no GSM signal. Baseband and IMEI were both unknown. Thought to myself "f*^k here we go again".
Downloaded this. Went back into the bootloader. Relocked it via adb. Then whilst still in the bootloader, I clicked on the RUU that I downloaded from here.
Once everything booted back up, had GSM, IMEI and baseband back. Proceeded to unlock the bootloader and flash ARDH 7.2.1 again but left out Francos kernel for the time being lol.
More for the legal heads etc. here, but HTC-Dev's website states:
Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.
If you should require support, please feel free to contact us via the support section of our website, http://www.htc.com

It specifically says security is left on to protect the radio etc. - surely this should then be covered by HTC as, according to them, there's no way we could break it. The way I see it, either their 'security' didn't work, or the problem isn't caused by a bootloader unlock?
Hahaha! I couldn't help it. I just had to flash Francos r12 kernel again and what do you know? No IMEI and baseband. All good though. Restored from a nand backup I did earlier this evening and all is well again. Downloaded the kernel again just to make sure the md5 wasn't bung, flashed and same thing happened again. So when you get your HOX working again, don't flash Francos r12 kernel lol.

Not trying to start a flame war or anything, but this is why I stopped buying HTC phones and went with the S3. Because ever since they started with this HTCDev garbage, modding your phone became ridiculously difficult.

Hi,
for some Reason the RUU doesn't work. I want to go back to a stock ROM without root and a locked hboot, but I get an Error 170 (Connection-Error?) The Cable and the connection have to be alright, since the device works as an mass-storage-device without problems. I tried running the ruu on different Roms and running it with the phone in hboot, but nothing works.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

RUU should work with this. I don't know what RUU did you try but I recommend 2.3. Also, take a look at installed programs in your computer, maybe you have some other drivers installed besides Sync.
You said that usb mass storage is working, maybe it's a partial usb brick, so you can try to install 4ext recovery and try a fix and then to try RUU.
Also, try reinstalling of HTC Sync, then after reinstall reboot the phone into bootloader and connect to see if you will get drivers installed.
i can't use a 2.3 RUU, since I'm in Germany and it doesn't work here, but I'll try your other tips, thank you

Why you can't? It's made for all regions and all versions of devices, I've never heard such thing.
okay, maybe we are talking about different things. I'm talking about the HTC Gingerbread RUU for Desire, which is said to not receive SMS / MMS in Germany
The latest Froyo-RUU I found for the Desire is:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32.U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
Is this the one I should use?
I tried reinstalling htc-sync and everything else that was installed with it and rebooted to bootloader like you said, I then got the following:

I didn't know about the issue with sms/mms, and i meant on that upgrade.
Well, I'm not sure about than FroYo RUU cause it depends on the fact how you bought your Desire and if it was brended. If it wasn't brended that's the one.

Ok, go to htc developers site, kernel source code section, choose other in filter and click on find files. The last file listed marked as N/A, size 5,5MB is USB driver, download and install it.
Before that try to restart your PC and then to connect phone in bootloader.
yes, thanks a lot!!! bootloader didn't work (batterypower said to be below 30% when in fact battery was full) so I switched over to fastboot, installed the drivers from your link again and tada, now it worked thanks a lot
edit: or so I thought, it went through until right to the end where it said something about checking signatures. it was after sending all the files over there. then it suddenly said error in user-id data or something like that..? (Error [131])
edit: goldcard solved that problem, so everything solved now, thanks

I told you that all depends on how you bought your phone, and it ended up that it was branded in some way.
I'm glad you made it.
