Would a 4.5in-5in screen fit in my jeans pocket?

I've always thought that a 4.3 in screen was humongous until I actually held an HTC HD 2 in my hand, and it just doesn't seem big enough (almost feels small) . I kind of want my phone to be more "substantial" (for lack of a better word) than that. Does anyone think that WP7 phones will come in sizes greater than 4.3 in? Also would a 4.5in-5in screen even fit in my jeans pocket?

Yes, it would, but it's no fun anymore

I checked out the video and I think I would be happy with a 4.5-4.7 inch screen, 5in is a bit too big.
Man (I've said this a million times but...) if HTC could make a 4.7 inch Touch Pro 3 with WP7, I would be a happy guy .

I've held the Droid X and it has a 4.3" screen. Seems plenty big to me, any bigger is too big IMO.

Depends what kind of jeans you wear... for 5 in. you might need cargo pants...

Agreed.

As far as I remember, Droid X is bigger than HD2 with the same screen size. HD2 is just a tiny bit bigger than the iPhone, so yes, it fits in any jeans pocket.
Screen size is much less of a problem than the phone's depth as far as fitting into jeans is concerned.

Works for me, I usually only wear cargo pants. In my opinion, the bigger the screen, the better.
If you wear skinny jeans, then no it would not fit. But any other jeans should be fine.

How can an 11mm phone not fit in skinny jeans?
I wear different kinds of jeans, and have zero problems fitting my 4.3" HD2 in their pockets. It was much more challenging with a 2.8" Qtek S110 because the thing was 18mm thick. The problem isn't the screen size.

We're talking about phones that are bigger than the HD2, of course the HD 2 will fit into your pocket, it's really not that huge of a device IMO. But phones 4.7 in and above will definitely give you trouble even if the depth is right.

The trick to determine size for you is NOT get the device in hand and play for only a few minutes.
Take it with you for a few days and THEN see how you like the size.
And for your last question, nobody knows YOUR jeans size.

The HD2 is actually really small for its screen size, since the screen is almost the entire front of the phone. My 4" Galaxy S is pretty much exactly the same size.

Better in the hand than the GS2

I could never get on with the GS2 as far as handling was concerned.
Is this likely to be better than that because though the screen is bigger the actual handset looks less square than the GS2?

purely subjective. Everyone has a different comfort level when it comes to handling the phone and what size they can tolerate.
The GN is larger, albeit not that much, than the SGSII. It is slightly curved and more rounded, but when it comes down to it if you have trouble with the SGSII you will probably have a lot of the same woes with the GN.

The GS1 and GS2 were both bad handlers for me, mainly because of the thin, unergonomic cheap slippery shiny sides, the useless and obstructive chrome coming apart frame, and the flat back. The GN seems to improve in several ways. The corners are more rounded, making it much easier to both pocket and palm. It actually reminds me a lot of the Amaze 4G or Sensation shape (2D shape). The T-mobile version of the GS2 also is far more rounded than the original GS2 and definitely more rounded than the super squarey Infuse, so if you wanna see how much the rounded edges makes a difference, go check out the T-mobile version and compare to other more squarey versions.
The curve of the phone also makes a difference. I don't know why people keep on saying the curve is subtle. It's really noticeable from the side at least, and when you place it down. Since your hand naturally curves around the phone, the phone is in contact with more of your hand, which makes it ergonomically better, like the banana phone. Well a phone with a flat back like the original GS2 (save for the hump) and the RAZR/most Motorola phones most of the surface area isn't gonna touch your hand when you grab it and you are clamping it down mostly by the sides, unless of course you have lego-man hands in which case squared of objects are easier to hold. I'm exaggerating on the curve of course since it can't really compare to a real full-sized rounded back like the Amaze 4G or the Atrix 2. It should be better than the GS2 however.
Oh yeah the sides look like faux metal (real?) plastic and seems to be matte and much more grippable than the slippery cheap stuff on the GS2. It also seems to be less curved, meaning more actual space to grip unlike the GS2 which has very little, part of which is the chrome frame, and the rest tapers too quickly towards the back.

Its more of just a dark grey. I don't think there's any brown/gold color to it.

Honestly though? Until we actually hold the device in each of our paws this is kind of a silly question.

Well that kind of states the obvious that we will not have a definitive answer until then. But there is no harm in some informed speculation on the matter for us early adopters, so hardly silly.

Is it just me or is this phone just too big?

My previous phone was a nexus s. The usb port died and Samsung said it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get it back repaired.
I went to my carrier to see what kind of phone I could get cheap and in the end I got an iphone 4s thinking I could sell it once I got my nexus back and make a little money. After a week with the iphone I was going nuts. Everything seemed to take twice as long to do, going in and out of apps. I guess I got used to real multitasking with ics on my nexus s.
Anyway, I sold the iphone and bought a galaxy nexus off someone for 480 CAD thinking I could sell the nexus s once I got it back. Now I have been using it for about a week now and for some reason it just doesn't feel quite right in my hands. I am still waiting for the case I ordered maybe that will make it feel a little better in the hand but right now it actually feels like my hand is getting tired from holding it. I find myself having to keep changing positions just to use the phone.
I love the massive screen, but I am wondering if this trend of making phones bigger and bigger is not the best idea or will I end up adjusting to it? I know when I was looking something up on my friends iphone today I kept thinking, Holy crap this thing is way too small.

I adjusted to it rather easily. Granted there are times when you realize that the phone is big, sometimes I find that it 'rests' on my pinky finger while I am holding it and making acrobatics to hit the top row or notification bar with my thumb, but once I used it for a while, I fell in love with the size.
You don't interact with your phone frequently, the most frequent activities that you are doing - like texting or answering calls - is still very easy despite the screen size. Other activities, like games and video content, is much better on that screen. And browsing benefits immensely.
So I think it's the right call. It's not the ideal size, I would not mind if it was slightly smaller, but I'm finding it difficult to use anything that's as small as my previous phone these days (I used HTC Desire).

Buying a case will only make it alittle bit bigger from my experience ...my hands are large...I love my phone...though a gel case will help from slipping from the rubber grip I suppose..

At first I thought it would be too big, but after using it a little bit it felt perfect.
Sometimes I cant hit buttons on the other side of the screen when using one hand, but that isn't too often.
Other phones are too small for me now.

I didn't want to upgrade my NS when they announced GN because I think it's too big for a phone.
Last week I played with the live unit on a shop..and walked away with GN in my pocket, you'll get used to it. It's better for browsing and reading as you have additional screen estate.
There are of course times when you need to do "aerobatic thumbing" but you'll get over it eventually ^_^

Yeah, the G Nex is a bit too wide. Width-wise, I think the Rezound is perfect imo. Too bad it's too thick and runs Sense.

at least its not as wide as the galaxy s ii. That thing is ridiculous.....
I personally think the width of the nexus is perfect. I thought the phone was actually a little too light and nearly flew out of my hand several times. That changed once I got the extended battery.

Not as wide as the SGS2? It's at least as wide, if not wider, side by side.. I had one before this and the Nexus is bigger than SGS2.
As for Nexus, it's very big, but just about acceptable to me lol. Feels better in hand than SGS2 though

I came from a Thunderbolt so it wasn't a huge adjustment for me. I personally thought the size of Thunderbolt was great after being on Nexus One before that. Now with this phone, I feel THIS is now the perfect size

When I got my HD2 I came from a HTC Diamond, a very petite phone. I thought the HD2 was huge but I soon adjusted to it. Then after porting Android to it before flashing to NAND was 'the thing' I got a Desire, love, love, love that phone. I swapped it for a Desire HD when they were released and I realized the bulk of a 4.2" phone was a bit over the top, hated the DHD, sold it and kept the Desire for about 22 months.
I bought the Nexus Prime 3 weeks or so ago, and I am wondering now, if 4.65" is too small!

My Galaxy Nexus is small for me. Because I had been using an iPad as a temporary phone (Not that I make/receive calls anyway)when my HD2 was broken..

When i went from the Sensation to the G.Nexus the Nexus did feel a bit big in my hand as you say. To start with it tired my hand a bit too, you'll get used to it though, if you have big hands that is

The bigness is far less of a problem than the slipperyness!
This phone is very, very slippery. I have almost dropped it SEVERAL times. I am waiting on an Incipio Feather case to prevent this--my Nexus S was also very slippery, but being smaller was easier to hold onto. This phone is large enough that the combination of size and slipperiness makes it very hard to hold onto with one hand.
My hands aren't tiny, but they aren't large either. They're a bit larger than other women I know, but not near the big ol' paws a lot of my guy friends have. They have a lot easier time holding my phone, but they still tell me it's slippery and hard to hold onto.
The Feather doesn't really add much in the way of protection, but it doesn't add hardly any bulk at all and gives a much grippier surface to more easily hold the device.
Edit: This would be an even bigger problem if I didn't use ADW.Launcher EX. With my swipe-down gesture set to open the notification shade, having to contort my hand to reach across the 4.65" display is far less common.

Man i miss swipe down for notifications... I do love the ICS launcher though...so ill stick with it a little while longer.....

The phone feels a lot better in hand with the extended batter cover. It feels very weird with the standard battery cover.

Coming from an iPhone 4, it was a tad awkward at first, however I got used to it fairly quickly. Sometimes have to jiggle the phone a little in my hand in order to get my thumb to the power button but I've gotten used to doing that. Feels natural to hold now and my case for the phone has excellent grip on it.

The only time I think to myself that it's too big is when I have to hit the back button at the top-left of an app (which is rarely, fortunately). I have small hands and reaching that spot is a real pain

I'm 14 with normal size hands for my age and I think its the perfect size, kinda wish it was bigger

When ever a friend see my galaxy nexus they always comment how massive it is.
Personally when I first got it I thought it was huge too the first day. Now it seems normal sized to me. I did notice how thin it was though.
What do you guys think?

coming from the S2 it felt slightly bigger, however i got used to it very quickly, feels really good using just one hand. once the One X came out and i held my friends one, it made the nexus feel slightly better in the hand
its got a very nice feel to it and it'll probably feel even smaller once i try out the S3

It's still too big, but it's the best phone choice currently, so I will be happy with it. Hopefully when Google fleshes out the Nexus line in November, there will be additional size choices.
I have fairly large hands, but when I hold the phone in my right hand, my thumb cannot reach the top-left portion of the screen without losing balance of the phone. Lack of one-handed operation is going to be a showstopper for most people.

Its a touch too big. I'd prefer if they could've either dropped the screen size to ~4.5" or reduced the physical dimensions by a couple mm each way.

Coming from the galaxy note it feels like a tic tac box. But I think it has the perfect form factor

I can barely reach the far top left corner when holding it with only my right hand. I would much prefer a 4.4 inch which I think is a nice sweet spot to all this massive phone war.
Hopefully the next Nexus will either remain the same or drop it down a notch.

It seems normal sized now, coming from my OG epic 4g.. its a monster. Definetly difficult to handle with one hand but once you get the grip just right its pretty seamless.

Wish phones would go back to a 4in screen size. This phone is nice. But massive.

I have slightly smaller hands but I've adjusted to holding my nexus with one hand in some strange grip that seems to work lol... this adjustment just makes it so much easier for me and I can probably handle a bigger phone in the same way. I'll try with my brother's Note.
I guess the gnex is the perfect size for me, I quickly got used to it and now it feels so normal and everything else is tiny at times I feel like my screen isn't big enough lol

Same goes for me too. Every time I pick up my brothers iPhone it feels like a tiny toy to me and I have trouble pressing buttons on the screen since they're so small thanks to the screen.

If you've made it this far continue on with a straight face.

It's fine, just feels phone-size to me now. I have big hands, though. This phone fits better in my hands than the Galaxy S3 fits in my girlfriends hands. The Galaxy S3 feels puny to me now. I can reach 90% of the screen without changing my grip.
In some pants with shallow pockets, crouching is impaired slightly, but while walking it fits fine, and you can swap it to the back pocket if you want. I wouldn't be worried about carrying it, though. That's a minor issue compared to using it. As long as you can use it fine, you'll be happy, so go into a store and try it out.

This was my biggest concern before buying the Note 2. But it's not too big by any means whatsoever. Holding anything else now just seems waaaay too little! Fits in all my pockets comfortably.

That was my only concern as well... I got it... now my only concern is that samsung will stop making notes and I will have to go back to a puny phone and squint to us it.

Well, it's more portable than the original Note since it's slimmer, so I'm not sure what "too big" quantifies as. I've owned both and had no problems carrying either. The Note I was wider and the Note II is longer. I still manage with relative ease.

I was very concerned about the size too and hesitated buying it. It only took a couple of hours to get past that concern. I still have my S3 and it looks so small now, I can't imagine what an iPhone would feel like now!!

My Note 2 made my Skyrocket look like my Captivate did when I got my Skyrocket. I was convinced I'd never be able to use or carry the Note 2 (in fact, I skipped the original Note because it was literally twice the size of my Captivate). Within a week, I was used to pocketing the Skyrocket, Otterbox Defender and all. Likewise, with the Note 2, I'm already used to pocketing it, bulky folio case and all. I'm even comfortable-ish using it one-handed at this point.
If you're really worried about the size, go to any AT&T, T-Mo, Sprint or Verizon store, or a Wal-Mart, Radio Shack or Best Buy and pick the display model up. See how it feels. Don't try to jam it in your pocket or anything, but I went into a T-Mo store before getting mine and placed it alongside my pocket to see if I was comfortable with the size.
I still recommend a holster for a device as big as the Note 2 so you don't inadvertently crack it in a deep bend, but I haven't had any issues with the size beyond appreciating how huge the screen is.

+1 for everyone's comments. Just adding this: it is completely normal to me now, handling/viewing-wise. As I haven't had it that long yet, when people at my workplace & also family first see it they make a fuss over its gargantuan proportions. I look at it and think it's totally normal though. And no I cannot bring myself to imagine going back to my teeny phone (even though I love it dearly.) Some of the older ladies, in fact, said they would like a phone like that because they could actually SEE the stuff on it. lol

I will jump on this train. I felt the same way as you, and to be honest you can return it most places, look for somebody that won't charge you a restocking fee.
I came from a Samsung Captivate and temporarily on an iPhone 4. Personally the Note 2 feels better in my pocket than the iPhone 4 because of how thin it is.
The size does make one handed control a bit tricky, but Samsung has done a good job allowing you to turn on one hand input which shifts the keyboard or dialer to half the screen.
I have had it for a week now and continue to tell myself I will never buy a smaller phone again.

I've had mine just over a month now and have never thought of it as being too big. I have a flip case at present but am considering getting a more bomb-proof case in the near future. I dropped it once before I had the case and the screen smashed into a thousand pieces!! I got it back 5 days ago.

I agree. This 5.5in screen is pretty great because I'm used to it now. I picked up my wifes iphone yesterday and it felt extremely inadequate. I think I could even be okay with a 6 inch screen, but after that it will be "getting out of hand".
I haven't had a problem with it fitting in any of my jeans though, I always just hold it anyway, like I did my iphone while walking.

Did you have insurance? Ive been really afraid about dropping mine because I've heard replacement screens are ridiculously priced.

Its a little big, but what you get for a size bump outweighs any negative you can say about the size tbh. Get a smaller device = smaller battery. This screen is pretty big but so is the battery. I guess what I'm saying is battery life is pretty good with this beast. Try it out, you have 30 days.

I just came from a tiny I-phone 4s...which certainly fit completely inside any pocket I have...and had the same initial worry as you...I mean this Note 2 dwarfs anything out there except a full note pad after all...and I was so used to a phone of that size...
It took me 2 days...to stop fretting over it and just use it without being so self conscious of the size of it.I had to realize I had a larger phone and get used to carrying it around and be comfortable with it.
I work in Facilities Engineering at a 7 million square feet hospital and I am crawling..stooping..climbing..sliding all over the place...all the time and all I have on it right now is the original gray flip case...and I carry my Note 2 in my left shirt pocket. Yes...I do take some precautions by holding my arm across my chest when bending over...but I would do that anyway to keep my pens..testers and other stuff in place as well...
In other words...it's not too big...but...it's not completely secure either...like a much smaller phone. I have a Seidio case and belt clip on it's way to me...the same one I used for a couple of years on my Captivate..this will eliminate having to have it in my pockets and not add much bulk to it like a lot of other cases do...while providing excellent protection for it.
Right now...your suffering from "the small phone complex"...it's true...you really are...and once you get one of these and use it for a few days..and see all they can do...you will never want to go back to a small screen again...and you'll wonder why you waited so long...

It doesn't really matter what answer anybody else gives you does it? Obviously on this forum most people will think it's not too big, many others think it is too big. Why don't you figure out for yourself which camp you are in by making a rounded rectangular slab out of wood or cardboard? The Note 2 is (rounding up to the nearest mm - your slab isn't going to be perfect): 152x81x10. That's what I did and I carried it around for a while in jacket pockets, front pants pockets and cradled it in my hand. My conclusion? It's about as big as I could go - certainly in length, I could go a little wider in width to perhaps a bit beyond the Note I though I doubt Samsung will go back to that width after the number of reviewers who say they like the narrower form factor. Still haven't bought one yet, though I'm pretty close. Reading these boards and thinking about whether I want to wait for a 32 or 64 GB internal or not (probably not).

Its big but not too big.

Really should only be a problem for one handed users with small hands.
I carried it in my pocket wrapped in a micro fiber cloth (sand will scratch the screen) untill my hip case arrived. No issues carrying the phone around.
I'm mainly a one handed user with large hands and it manageable, though I is a handful. My Galaxy S II feels down right tiny now.

I'm loving the size! No complaint at all. My girls sgs3 seems so puny after using my n2 for a few days lol

I'm glad you posted this thread, OP. I've been thinking about getting the Note 2 for a few days now, but I'm having the same "tiny phone syndrome" as described earlier. Of course, I've got the SIII right now, so it's not like I'd be coming directly from my iPhone 4S. But it is amazing how the N2 makes even the SIII look small! The size is almost overwhelming... LOL.
My question to you guys that already have the N2...do you feel its a worthy upgrade to move from the SIII to the N2 or am I better off just sticking with the SIII? I was originally going to get the Nexus 4, but I cancelled my order after being relegated to backordered status. That ticked me off a bit at Google.
Even if I got the N2, I'd keep my SIII, but do you guys think its worth it?
