well about 3 weeks ago every thing was going very well i'm using CM7.1 ( stable ) with the latest kernel and updated lib files when suddenly i noticed that my volume and power buttons doesn't work from the first click some times i have to press like 6 of 7 times to get it to work and it's really frustrating i thought if i re flashed a new rom i'm thinking CM7 RC3 maybe will fix this issue but while i was in the recovery screen the volume buttons were also lagging so i think it's not a software related issue am i right ? !! or reflashing a new rom and kernel well fix the problem
oh and i still have 2 monthes remaining in my 1 year warranty so if i asked them to fix my phone ( if it's a hardware related issue ) will they tell me it's rooted it's out of warranty ? !!
thanks in advance
same here....power and vol buttons have to be pushed multiple times to register click....in recovery too...i think its not a soft related problem....

Looks like ur volume and power buttons have been used extensively to boot into recovery and flashing roms & kernels !! NICE !!
Rooting does not void you from certain hardware warranty and warranty on accessories(as i recall i read this somewhere while reading endlessly before rooting)..
This policy may vary from one country to another..but give it a shot..to be on the safer side unlock ur bootloader(though it will say relocked) and unroot ur phone before visiting the customer care..Best of Luck !!
My buttons are fu***ed too. :X

Having an issue with my HOX today. It was in my pocket all day at work, pulled it out to make a phone call and afterwards when I went to hang up, the screen would not turn back on. It is still responsive to touch input and I can still unlock while the screen is black, but it still does not turn on. I can however hard restart it and the screen comes back on and I can still enter fastboot/recovery. But if I let the phone stand-by the issue repeats itself. I was on BinDroid v2 without any kernel when this happened, I got the phone into recovery and flashed both Energy and franco.Kernel and this issue is still happening. Is my best option to try and flash the original RUU and a stock rom?
I've had this issue since flashing the bricked kernel. I think the best option would be to go back to stock.

i have the same problem but in my case the phone is just suck at a black screen. am not able to do anything at all, am just sitting now waiting for my battery to die so that i may be able to reboot it. if you any suggestions to solve this, please do tell as i am in a dire situation.
Can't you restart the phone by holding the power button in?
If not then that's a strange one.

This is what I'm doing as well. I tried using a nandroid to go back to stock and that still doesn't work. It's almost impossible to get the phone into the bootloader but it's do able. One thing I'm noticing though, is that if the screen does manage to turn on when I boot it up, it wants to send an error report to HTC about it. Also, once the screen goes off and won't come back on, it's very laggy to other inputs. Example, pressing the power like you want to wake it and then pressing to volume keys has a very noticeable delay.
Thankfully, HTC is already doing a warranty call on it for the yellow spots on my screen (now like dark orange spots now)
Update: HTC said that the screen issue I'm having is unlikely able to be fixed by a software repair and that I have to send it in for a repair. 7-10 business days.... great.
Also with an untouched phone
Guys, I am afraid this is a hardware problem. My phone is UNROOTED with the last upgrade and I am having the same issue.
Take it back to the assistance. OOPS, you rooted it ;-)

Hi.. I'm also facing the same issue ... however this didn't start till few days ago. I have had this phone for six months now and was on stock most of the times.
But since this week , I started getting issues where once the screen goes black , it doesn't come back on. Although , I can reboot the phone with long press power button and also go back to bootloader/recovery without any issues.
Can u confirm its the hardware issue ? If yes, did the techinicians told you anything about what is causing this and it can be corrected easily ? I want to try my hands on it before going to customer care as I have void my warranty and will have to pay for repairs.
Cheers !
its kernels issue.
you should flash orginal kernel or flash a rom with irginal kernel to fix this issue.

First time I started facing the issue, I was on stock 4.0.4 rom with stock kernels unrooted and locked bootloader.
So not sure if the issue was related to kernel. Anyways I'l try to get stock kernel and use it.
Cheers
OK.. so I did tried to get the stock 4.0.4 rom with stock kerne but same issue.
Also in the meanwhile I tried all other prominent HOX roms , bot AOSP and sense.
I have found that the issue is more severe and frequent on Sense roms (confirmed on all JB roms Ondroid, Maximus and ADHD as well as VenomX) but its very much stable on AOKP ICJ and CM10 roms. However still sometimes screen doesn't come on in ICJ too.
Now I'm starting to think there might be some issue with HBoot 1.28. My CID is 001 so there shouldn't be any issue, but if I remember correctly when I installed the Hboot, there was a 'Failed' message , but the process did completed.
Should I try to again flash Hboot 1.28 as I can't apparantely go back to older ones ? anything else I should try.
I'd really like to hear from some ppl who have faced this issue and mentioned in posts above on how they managed to solve it.

but it didn't work and i ignored for later on .... after few hours i tried to mute the phone and then it hit me that the vol down isn't working, i tried to press hard but no use... i tried to restore the recovery version that i normally used but no luck... and even tried to install another rom "i'm now using android revolution HD 6.3.3" but no luck.... the volum up key works perfectly and the volum down feels the same as always, nothing changed and it feels like working but it's not .... so have any one heared of my problem or faced it ?????!! hopefully i find the answer here...
i tired to search the forum but no luck every resualt was about hardware problems which i don't think i have" at least i hope so"

ok, volume rockers seem to be a common issue in these phones. To get to recovery you can use adb commands....plug the phone with usb debugging enabled and in the PC open a cmd as admin or a terminal as root, then type: adb reboot recovery....
make sure that u are running a touch recovery to avoid issues...
Thanks for your help glevitan but the thing is that getting in recovery is not really the main topic of the problem cuz i was getting to recovery through the app or throgh advance power menu.... the thing is i'm trying to find out some way to fix it through software rather than hardware solution, if it's possible since the phone didn't actully have an physical issu, and it just suddenly stopped working after updating the recovery ..... hope to find the fix. and thx again
I have a One X S720e, CID_J15
I recently upgraded the hboot to 1.39, and since the update the phone has been going crazy. First installed a IceColdJelly 2.5.1 ROM. And after installing Gapps everything was okay at first but 5min into usage everything started FCing. starting from com.google.process to the launcher to every single application. And this just keeps happening. I ran a super wipe script installed other ROMS including the CM 10.1 and same issue kept happening.
After a day of this, the phone randomly started turning off and got stuck in APX mode. I managed to get out by holding power button and vol up + vol down for 40+ sec. The phone runs for a bit, boots into ROM, works for some time as long as no app is run. If i open ANY app at all, again the FC starts and eventually the phone reboots into the APX mode again.
Frustrated, i ran another Super Wipe Script, again tried to install the HBOOT 1.39 update, and then installed the STOCK ROM for a nandroid backup i had. But the same thing keeps happening. All apps force closing. So basically i cant use the phone.
PLEASE HELP ME. Anyone have any ideas whats wrong ? or could it be a hardware issue ? should i relock the bootloader and send it to a HTC service center ??
You did flash the boot.img for every specific ROM right?
I think if you send it to HTC they will charge you for the full repair service, which WILL cost you a lot of money.
Got no further solution for you buddy, good luck. Hope you can fix it before sending it to HTC
yup. Done evreything by the book. flashed all the boot.img files. The ROMs boot perfectly, just that after a while while im installing apps and or doing ANYTHING everything starts crashing.
My phone is still in warranty though. I read that if the phone goes into APX mode its usually a hardware problem. My question is why did the problem arise only after i updated the HBOOT. everything was just fine till then. I hope this issue is covered in warranty :'(
i have exactly the same problem!!
What you say, sometimes it will work for 5 minutes. But when you open an application it will force close and all the applications will start FCing.
Did you already solve the problem?
APX is a hardware defect ..... not much to do about that.
I have exactly the same problem! It all started with ICJ: gapps and almost all other apps started FCing after some time. After dozens of hard reboots I got stuck in APX mode. At least that's what I think. My PC recognized the device as "unknown devices", the screen was black, adb and fastboot didn't work. I managed to get out by pressing the power button + volume up/down for many seconds... I flashed numerous Roms in the past days and I always get the same FCs (especcially Gapps) - doesn't matter if it is a sense or an AOSP based ROM. So is this a hardware probelm? Is there any way I can solve it? If I send my HOX to HTC I'll most probably need to pay right?

Yep
I got an HTC one V whose Vol+ key doesn't seem to work, the stock rom is sluggish as hell, I was hoping to improve responsiveness a bit by installing a custom ROM
Now, I know that when booting in recovery mode, you use the vol+ and vol- keys to navigate... can you manage just with Vol- ?
(recommendations on a good custom ROM are also welcome, I was leaning towards JB 4.2.2 Paranoid, but i don't know what other options are out there)
Thanks!
vol keys not working is a known issue of HOV you can take it to service centre nd they will repair it for you .

I could do that... in december :S, I live in Argentina, my dad lives in the states, I had the phone shipped to his house and he brought it to me last week... he checked the phone but didn't see the vol key not working. I'll be traveling there in december and will try to get it fixed...
...will installing custom roms/rooting/etc cause me trouble if I send it for repairs?

Rooting / installing custom firmware voids the warranty. I'm not sure if it would cause trouble, but I just know that you'd have to pay for the repair. If it's still under warranty I'd take advantage of that and get it fixed as soon as possible.
Yep, i've contacted Latin American support, let's see where that gets me
Though i'll wait a bit before doing anything, I'd still like to know for the record, could you navigate the recovery menus using just the Vol- and Power buttons?

Yes, and TWRP is touchscreen so that would work too.
Guys , wish me luck !
I reverted to stock , relocked bootloader , cuz i need warranty ...
I have a yellow spot on my screen , volume up button works only if i press hard , and battery is at 50% of what it was 6 months ago...
SO , i hope HTC will take my HOX to warranty . I've read that they sometimes don't repair devices with relocked bootloader .
