Wifi calling - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello, I was wondering if the Sprint version of this phone can perform wifi calling. I have searched and only found that t-mobile is capable of this, but was hoping this is possible with the nexus. Thank you in advance.

Sprint doesn't have a WiFi calling system or app available.
You can't use it on T-Mobile with the Galaxy Nexus either. T-Mobile only offers it on their branded devices that they make special apps for.

there is nothing at this time.

Is there a thread/conversation on xda where a group may be working on TMO wi-fi calling for ICS or JB? I, too, would love the idea of wi-fi calling on unlocked phone brought to TMO but I understand it is currently limited to TMO phones ...

[Q] Tmobile wifi calling on Captivate and CM7

I'm using a rooted and unlocked captivate on tmobile. My G2 has the ability to make wifi calls through a wifi app(I do get charged for the minutes). Has anyone been able to make this work on a captivate. There seems to be some discussion in the vibrant forum that this might work on 2.2, but I am using 2.3.5 (CM Nightlies)
Thanks
You should definitely ask this question in the Captivate forums, not the DZ forums.
But generally, no I don't think it works like that. The WiFi calling app as you know it on a T-mobile G2 won't work on the Captivate as far as I know considering T-mobile isn't set up to run that device with UMA (its an AT&T branded phone). I'm assuming that you wouldn't be able to just move the .apk over and be good to go. My assumption is the device wouldn't register with the network properly.
Also, FWIW, you can get a feature put on your T-mobile account to make WiFi calls not count against your plan minutes. Its free of charge. Just call and ask.

[Q] T-mobile Wifi Calling workaround???

Please forgive my ignorance....Is not the wifi-calling issue a matter of having a kernel that supports it and having the apk that works with 2.3.5??? There are other 2.3.5 roms that work with T-Mobile's wifi-calling. I am in no way a developer nor do I understand much about this. I am simply offering what may or may not have already been thought of.
It won't be just an apk once tmo releases it for SGS2.

when you say other roms are you by any chance talking about a rom for the gs2 or are you talking about other android tmo phones.
What I mean is that FOR NOW T-Mobile's wifi-calling is a matter of having the app and a kernal that supports it. There are other 2.3.5 roms that run the wifi calling app so it seems to me that it wouldn't be that hard to get it running on this phone. Who knows how long it will be until T-Mobile get this sim card wifi-calling going.

It's actually a bit more than just the apk and kernel. You also need a RIL (radio int. layer) that supports the handoff. RIL is not open source, which is why you don't see oodles of TMO phones with wifi calling.
If it was just apk+kernel, wouldn't every phone on TMO have wifi calling?
WiFi calling will be baked into the OS rather than just being an apk.

That's what I was referring to earlier, not just an apk anymore.

That doesn't help, it hurts. Now T-mobile has a premium phone with wifi calling and the other variants that have the old version. There is no need for them to RUSH to get it to us, the amaze people have just become T-mobiles "beta" testers as the alpha with the devs and employees is done. Expect delays and pushbacks now on our phone. Like I said before, and please T-mobile prove me wrong, Samsung is HORRIBLE with updates and we will be lucky to see this before the new year.
Ugh even my gf's g2x has wifi calling.
Did everyone here get the sim card? All three of us (family) got new sim cards when we got our new phones back in Oct. Supposedly required for the wifi calling.
Is this wifi calling they're rolling out supposed to be like UMA on BB? Where it will hand off between wifi and cell? Had the BB a long time ago and UMA was pretty slick. Had the original Galaxy S with wifi calling previously and voice was sketchy, delayed. But it was great for receiving texts in our crappy location.

[Q] Closer to Tmobile wifi calling for galaxy nexus?

Now that at least two Tmobile phones have wifi calling running in ICS, does that mean we are any close to having the wifi calling app on the galaxy nexus?
Highly doubt we'll ever see it. It's just so hard to get it working. Its a completely device-specific app that needs to be made.

Is there a ROM with T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling?

Hey guys, I'm considering buying this phone but I need T-Mobile Wifi Calling. Does anyone know of a ROM with the T-Mobile Wifi Calling app included?
I did try searching but couldn't find any ROM that said whether it had Wifi calling or not.
I found a barebones t-mo US stock rom that includes it, but it's a really bad rom. Anyone have an apk or zip of the kineto wifi program, or know of a rom that does?
Thanks.
DON'T buy this phone. I'm sure you can find a better choice for 100 dollars.

Well unfortunately, I'm in Europe, so I won't be paying dollars. I'm having difficulty finding a phone that is the same model in Europe as a T-Mobile phone. I need the wifi calling so I can make calls to and receive cals from friends and family in the US, using my old number.

Tmobile on verizon note 3

I have a verizon note 3. I am on tmobile now. Using a jelly bean rom, I have everything working except for wi fi calling? Anyone know how to get it? or how to load a tmobile rom on the verizon note 3?
I tried loading a tmobile rom but the wifi would not connect?
Thanks,

Unless I'm way off here, Verizon uses cdma where tmibile us gsm. How is your Verizon note even working on T-Mobile to begin with?

where you able to get wifi calling? do you have a link to the rom you used?
thanks
Verizon has world phones, that have some GSM capabilities, they also have SIM cards, because LTE is GSM tech and SIM is part of LTE specs, so yeah it should work at least on some frequencies. The only ROM that has WiFi calling, as far as I know is T-mo. There was some guy claiming he loaded pretty much all different ROM's he could get into his Note and it worked, but don't remember details, do search maybe in International Note 3 forum and see if T-mo is mentioned. Not sure if you care, but right now loading ROM's could trigger Knox flag, so maybe research this before hand and I have a feeling soon we may have some new breakthrough, when loading any ROMS is no problem, but not sure if Knox flag can ever be reversed, once tripped, there is no way for now.
BTW I'm not sure if you're aware, once you have WiFi calling, you can call home from around the World on WiFi for free. Don't let other people call you, but you can make free international calls home as long as you're on WiFI. It does not work for local calls. That is outside the new international calling plan T-mo has.
My Verizon Note 3 worked somewhat on T-Mobile
I had my Verizon Note 3 functional on T-Mobile for about a week but ended up buying a used T-Mobile Note 3 after having random service issues. With the correct APN settings on the V Note 3, 4G worked and I was able to browse just fine but the phone was not reliable. Quite often after making a call, it would switch away from 4G (sometimes to Edge) and would take minutes to re-establish a reliable data connection on 4G. During this time, whether it was possible to make another call was a hit or miss. Even when it said 3g, or Edge, calling was sometimes not possible. Usually I would wait a while before trying again. Data was in and out at times. I was on the latest official Android release: 4.4.4. And other users with T-Mobile phones were not having similar issues in the same location so I know it was not location specific.
I thought about downgrading to another rom and rooting, then enabling LTE band 4, but I wasn't sure that would fix the service-related issues. Now with the T-Mobile version, I have zero service problems. We had a similar experience on T-mobile with a Verizon Galaxy S5 and after getting the T-Mobile version, the problems were fixed.
So, IMO, the V Note 3 does work on GSM networks like T-Mobile. How reliable it works compared to the other Carrier specific models is debatable.
