You need to unlock bootloader if you want to flash a real ICS-rom. You can do this on Sony's homepage. http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Simply follow the instructions given on Sony's page or search in the development section for unlocking bootloader.
Then you can choose a ICS rom, for example CM9 or this one (but there are much more, simply look in the development section an try some different roms ) and flash it.
Sry my English isn't that good.

If you have bootloader locked you will need to down grade your firmware to build 42 do this download program called flashtools available on xda.
Download from xda the .42 file use flashtools to load on to phone.
Then root with either zergrush method or from flashtools.
Once rooted use ota to update to latest build 62
if bootloader is unlocked then do as described in previous posts.
All software and tools are available in general or q&a sections.

Unfortunately in order to flash a new kernel (boot.img) you need to unlock your bootloader. This can be done by paying $24 to Alejandrissimo. Here is more about the process: http://unlock-bootloader.com/unlock/

Hey I found this http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-unlock-bootloader-xperia-arc-play-neo-pro/ i think I will try it ,,,, once i feel ok to if not i'll pay to get it done
and this link http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
As far as I know, those methods will not work for you since you have the Verizon Xperia Play. I believe the only way is to get Alejandrissimo to unlock it for $24.00
Fairly sure paying Alejandrissimo is the only way to unlock the bootloader atm. I had him unlock mine and he did a fine job. If you were concerned about anything you don't need to be. He is legit but it is $24.

[Q] Bootloader unlock not allowed

So i have an Orange Xperia Arc S. I called them, they gave me the network unlock code, i unlocked the phone. But when i go into settings it still says bootloader unlock not allowed.
My question is, can i still root it now that i have unlocked the code so i can use ICS?
thank you
why you want to root? for your info, no need root and unlock bootloader to use ICS rom. but if you wanna try custom rom, you must unlock bootloader to flash the ROM n kernel
i dont want a custom Rom, i just want to install the official ICS .
How can i install that without unlocking the bootloader?
Update through the Sony Companion tool on your PC if the ICS has been release for your area.
thats the problem, i dont wanna wait a few months til it comes available through my provider. I downloaded the generic file.. how do i go about installing on my Arc?

Correct me if im wrong but it is possible to use ics by flashing it using flashtool. Plus, using flashtool doesnt require root or unlock bootloader...
However if u are using an arc and not arc s, it is not recommended to use the ics firmware of arc s coz there is some issue regarding touch screen...

You could use FLASHTOOL to flash the original ICS for ARC S from sony that's doable.
Look in Dev section for binary post about ics Nordic all info in there.

[Q] Xperia Pro ICS

Hey guys,
I have a Sony Xperia Pro MK16a and I'm waiting for the ICS update. I'm tired of waiting so I searched it up on Google and I came across a thread in a website that says how you can manually update it with Flashtool and the ICS ftf file. Thing is that the file is named "mk16i_4.1.B.0.431_ready to root.rar" and since I have a mk16a, is it safe if I flash it onto my phone? I have a locked bootloader and I'm rooted. Also, if I can update that way, do I need the the ICS kernel, baseband or anything? Any help is greatly appreciated
That ready to root which website you got it ?

Both have different radio/basebands and flashing a MK16i ROM on a MK16a may make you have problems with Phone Calls/Data Usage.
So no, you'll have to wait.
EDIT: Wait no more, ameer's thread has the ROM for MK16a: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480
Dunno if this work with OverLo4d/AeonWorld tutorial, but you can root it with Bootloader Unlocked with RootXperia.zip.

He has a xperia pro mk16a from fido his bootloader is locked and cannot be unlocked so hes wondering if its possible to grab a stock ics firmware and flash it whit flashtool...
Since ameers thread has it for the mk16a does he need still a official ics kernel or baseband or anything else ? Or he can straight flash it and ready to go..
Sent From My Sexy Sensation.
Still, there's the testpoint way to unlock bootloader, but inexperienced users (like myself) won't be able to do it.

I tried researching for the thread but couldn't find it.
I know you can pay someone with the correct Box or Dongle to unlock it with SETool, but there's a DIY thread with the use of S1Tool that I think it's for free.
Just couldn't find the tutorial, sorry.

The ftf (flashable via flashtool) on my thread includes kernel and baseband. So you do not have to flash them separately.

There is most likely a custom recovery on the phone - either CWM or TWRP, as that is most likely how the custom rom was installed.
to set it back to stock you will need to use a computer and flash the FTF files for the stock Bell rom. This will also set the recovery back to stock as well. It should be available on the stock rom thread for download and I think you should be able to find instructions on how to revert to stock somewhere in the forums.
You do NOT need to unlock the bootloader to do this, but you do need a PC.
P.S. You mention you don't want to root...but your name indicates otherwise....
That is an old user name lol from when I had my atrix 4g thanks for your help I just don't like this Rom I have so I wanna revert back thanks again

Have you tried this rom? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385313
Its the one I'm currently using, and I can highly recommend it
That does look like a nice Rom but until I can get access to a computer I'm assuming these roms are useless to me right now I'm using RomAur v9 right now and I can when I get to a computer flash that Rom you recommended without unlocking bootloader? And thanks for the tip I do appreciate all the help
