Looking for suggestions for better battery life and yes I read the wiki on it. I'm more concerned about what is a good combo for rom, kernal, baseband, pri version, webkit, and recovery. Right now i'm disatisfied with my battery time. On a side note I have cricket also I posted a screen shot of whats running on my phone.
I've been trying to achive best for a year. Decks+tiamat used to be it. Nowadays, in my opinion, you can't beat reloaded + Mason kernel + undervolting via vipermod. Because reloaded is so light you can underclock without noticing. Differing opinions on baseband/price/NV, but for me the latest is always the best. Zeam launcher seems to the lightest launcher.
If u decide to experiment with different roms and battery life be sure to give them a few days.

Yes that rom. When u flash from recovery it will have the option to flash Mason kernel. I use Mason-G-d15rc4-sbc-fso-supersonic-signed.zip.
Thanks guys for the help I only wished aosp would allow me to update prl via ##Prl#. Also what are you guys undervolting your evos too i set mine to 50 less.

Most people go -50mv. Some get lucky and can get -75mv like I did when I had my evo. I've even seen some get -100 but that's rare

Hey all,
I just flashed Sprint Lover's ROM and I was wondering what is the best Kernal for this Sense ROM? I really like the stock look, but I would love to improve some performance under the hood.
Any help would be great!
Thank you very much!!!

I always use Netarchy's kernel, but what may be good on one phone may also be bad on another phone. I suggest flashing different kernels and testing them out.

Go Here for his kernels. I use Netarchy Toastmod - 4.3-cfs-havs-more-sbc and so far it's worked amazing on the various ROMs I've used (including Sprint Lovers) but it's worked best for me on Myn's ROMs.

I think I'm gonna flash this kernel tomorrow, but maybe the nosbc so I don't fry my battery... Have you had any issues with the battery with the sbc? And do you use SetCpu with the kernel?

No, and no
Don't use SetCPU with a havs kernel. If you go with one of his nohavs kernels then by all means use SetCPU as you wish. Another thing, just from my personal experience (though it may be different for your phone) the CFS kernels work far better than the BFS kernels. There's a guide around here that explains the difference.
As far as SBC goes, I haven't had any issues yet. I've been using a battery monitor to watch what's going on with my battery and haven't seen anything wrong with it. Another thing I do, just as a small precaution, is not let the phone charge 6-8 hours over-night. I'll let it charge to 100% then let it sit for about 2-3 more hours and call it quits. Don't know if that really does anything, but it makes me feel better so eh.
I know the military (I'm in the Army) uses Lit-ion batteries and trickle charges them without having any of them blow up/fry, however they do lose their ability to hold a charge over time. The fact that they do it, and the only problem has been lifespan of the battery is what convinced me to try an SBC kernel. Just choose whichever you feel comfortable with. It's all preference really.

I've been using that one with no-sbc and it's worked great with the conservative profile. HAVS just deals with what voltage the processor uses at any given time/frequency so you can indeed use setcpu with it. It's the kernels with the built in smartass governor or ROMs using other battery tweaking scripts that don't always work well with setcpu.
And trust me, the military does not trickle charge their li-ions and they only run them at 4.10 volts to extend their life (depending on battery, always less than volts than their commercial counterparts). This I know for certain.
Anyone have a link to the stock kernel
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Guys quick question, with the above mentioned kernel. What frequency does if use when you turn off the screen? I want if to use the lowest possible, does the kernel do it automatically or should I use something like the overlook widget?
Also, can someone please provide instructions how to update the kernel, I haven't looked at the link yet so If there's instructions there that fine.
Thanks
wifi errors
i just flashed to netarchy kernel to my evo. cfs, havs no sbc. when i try to connect to wifi it says error. i used kernal manager to flash the kernal. is there anything i can to do to get the wifi back or do i need to go back to the stock kernel. i am running sprint lovers ROM. any suggestions.
update. when i flashed manually everything worked fine. maybe the kernel manager program has an issue with wiping the cache. not really sure. just thought i should let everyone know.
I would use the stock #15 HTC Kernel but with SBC. Link is in sec post here..

I've been using netarchy 4.3.4 cfs more havs aggressive sbc with no problems. Amazing battery life and very responsive.
Netarchy's kernels are very stable,if you're up for it try a sbc kernel, great battery life.
sbc
i was just reluctant to try an sbc because of the horror stories i have heard about frying the battery. i guess when i feel lucky i will try it.
I've searched but everything seems either old or non-existent. What are some of the kernels you all are using and how do you like them? Any you preferred over another? Any you recommend?
I'm currently using Salvagezen .2 CFS noSBC and it seems pretty good as far as battery life. I have previously used Tiamat, but I'm not really sure of the differences between these 2 other than obviously the developer.
FYI I'm using CM7 nightly
heres a link to my current kernel http://mirror.munkibizness.com/?nosbc
i find savagedzen's kernels are the very best there are, and i'd keep using them. if you are having problems, just say so and the team will get you sorted out in no time (yes, they are that good)
I have had a lot of luck with Netarchy's 4.3.2 series. Depending on your hardware, you will have different luck also. They seem to be real stable and have gotten me 17+ hrs. I use the heck out of my phone though.
I've also been using Netarchys kernel, but SBC. Definite improvement, never had a battery overheat.
I might try netarchy. I'm pretty sure I want noSBC just to be on the safe side. As far as the undervolting, havs, etc, I'm not sure what I want. The latest CM7 nightly stock kernel has been giving me greatly battery life lately though, so I might not even need to change.

Just make sure that you don't try Netarchy's kernels while you're still on CM7. Net's kernels are for Sense roms only, and you flash a sense kernel to an AOSP rom, you're definitely not going to have a solid experience. Stick with aosp kernels while on aosp roms.

oh good point! thanks.
Not sure which kernel to go with on the DInc. I want something that others have good success with so I know I wont botch my phone.
As of right now I think Incredikernel may be the cake. Any other opinions?
Chads kernels are the only ones I use for either Cyanogenmod or MIUI, can't go wrong with em.
With Redemption I ran HeyItsLou v8 Gates of Delirium and it was great and stable. This is my first time on an AOSP rom.

I had it and had no clue what the heck I was looking at. Have a link to a tutorial or guide on it?
So far with IncrediKernel Ive been on my phone all day long theming Jorte and what not and so far its still at 25%.
I recommended incredicontrol partially because it makes it easy to toggle features like audioboost and USB fast charge. For undervolting, there's no "best" setting, it just requires experimentation to see what your phone will handle. I'd just use the buttons at the top that control overall max and min voltages. Try dropping both by -25 increments until the phone becomes unstable, then set it at whatever your phone can handle while remaining stable.
You should notice an improvement in battery life, I've also noticed that the phone won't get as hot either.
I'm pretty sure that this question has been posted alot of times but I need help deciding on a decent rom and a kernal which would go with it that has everything working and has the best battery life as well. I will probably get CM7 but idk which kernal will go best with it.
I also need help changing the LCD density of my screen. Before I switched to my EVO I owned a HTC HD2 and had pongsters hyperdroid on it which had lower LCD density allowing everything to be smaller on the phone.
Those are my questions please help. Thank you!

Not exactly sure what you mean by LCD density but I can help with the ROM kernel question.
As far as a ROM goes the best way to find the right one is to do 2 things.
1. Make a list of things you are looking for in a ROM. Stability, 4G, HDMI, Wireless Tether, etc. Then check out ROMs that contain stable versions with those features you emphasize.
2. Get flash happy. Flash a ROM, test it for a few days to a week and then flash another one. If you find yourself coming back to one specific ROM over and over again then that is probably the one you should stick with.
Check out this thread for some ROM ideas: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951057
A few ROMs that I didn't see mentioned in there are Myn's Synergy, Salvage-Mod, Sinister, Savaged Zen, and Swag.
As far as kernels go you have to remember a basic rule. Sense ROMs get paired with sense kernels and AOSP ROMs get paired with AOSP kernels. Then you do the same thing you did with the ROMs.
1. Make a list of what you want in a kernel. HAVS, SBC, overclocking, undervolting, etc.
2. Get flash happy and test which kernel matches your ROM the best with what you are looking for.
I know that may not be the exact answer you are looking for. But ROMs and kernels are all about personal preference and daily usage trends. each one has pros and cons that different people may or may not like. Check my ROM/kernel combination. It fits my usage habits, constantly using it at home and barely use it when out of the house, but it may not fit the way you use it. Experiment and have fun.
And here is a thread about kernels: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
Quite personally, I would suggest MIUI. If you're not into that kind of thing, I would suggest Deck's, who updated to stable yesterday!
Kernel, I would say Tiamat 4.0.8.
Look up Vipermod. Check my signature. Most phones can at least handle a -50 undervolt for the Tiamat mentioned above.
I would suggest the flashable GPS fix in my signature. Locks on quite accurately.
You may have a lot of cell standby drain. Check development section for a thread about Radio wakelock combination.
Best way to change the density would be to edit the build.prop but there are apps in the Market. Just search density changer

Then you will be able to find out what you like.
AOSP is always a winner for me.
Oh, and make sure you Nandroid.
I agree with both posts above, you have to try out roms for yourself since in every rom post you will see someone saying this is the best rom they have ever hadand battery life is super. Your question has been asked a million times before but like that millions of answers that were given it all boils down to personal choice.
I run AOSP with an sbc kernel but Lord knows you may find people here who would dispute the use of an sbc kernel. LCD Density apps are in the market or just use google for help. Sorry this is not a definitive answer but honestly just find a rom you like and give it a shot....
Thanks for all your answers time to get flash happy!

For me the best combo of performance and battery life has been SavagedZen and CM7. Completely transformed my perception of just well the evo should perform. Basically no compromises, Fast AND great battery life.
I'm using MikG 2.56 ROM with Aggressive Freedom kernel. Holding up pretty good.
For me the best combo is Decks Rom 1.3 + SavagedZen Kernel + Vipermod
I can get about 16 hours on MikG 2.56 (stock kernel) with moderate use. Damn near perfect ROM.

Which version of CM7 are you running? I'm on the 219 nightly and it kind of meh. I've tried savaged Zen with CM7.1 and it was good but my battery didn't seem to last as long during use so I decided to move on to other kernels. Are you running any supplementary battery apps?
Hello All!
I made a similar thread to this over at the SGSII forums and was wondering what your answers are. So, the question is simple, which Kernel are you using and is the battery decent? Or a pile of rubbish? Lemme know. Poll has been setup with the main Kernels, I'll put an "other" option for people who are using new Kernels.
So, poll away!

As far as features go, Franco.Kernel adds color and vibrance to your screen. Its also tweakable so you can customize the color settings as you please. Battery is apparently awful though.

I am sort of noticing that battery life isn't so great too, although I wasn't sure since I haven't been running it for very long.
I was also looking for the best kernel.
Everybody talks about franco.Kernel. I will give it a try though.
Was using Franco's until earlier and now back to the Apex kernel that comes with bigxie's AOSP build
Eh? Franco kernel has the best battery life for me.

I just loaded on Lean kernel yesterday. Initial indications are that the battery life is extremely good.
180mhz cpu while screen off = happy battery.
Giving glaDOS a try.. it has some cool features like turn the screen on by touching it.. also has color control and battery life seems pretty decent so far. Big fan of imoseyon though.

I'm currently on Bigxie Build 8 with the Kernel included with it. Battery is pretty good. Underclocked my CPU to 970MHz. Losing 2% battery overnight (About 8 hours) and High usage I'm getting a decent amount of battery.
I'm wondering: I'm running ARHD 2.1.3 and thinking about flashing a kernel. Franco's had more options, but I'm getting that Jame Bonds kernel has a better battery life. That appeals to me. edit: ah, I see that Franco's is only for 4.0.3
Still, when I flash the kernel with ARHD 2.1.3 running, is it better to flash the anykernel.zip or should I just flash the original kernel?
Argh, just in the fun, looking for the best kernel. I'm between Franco's and Der Kernel Trinity NP (by the way, NP, Google, don't let Samsung impose it's boring naming system)
Trinity offers 512OC for the GPU, but I'd say Franco gives a better battery life....
Hmmmm difficult decision, isn't it? What do you guys think?
Currently rocking the Trinity kernel with mildly OC'd GPU (384 MHz).
I'm using imoseyon's kernel. I love minimalist kernels. Stable, fast, and not full of crapfeatures that just cause everything to crash and SOD and bootloop.
I think it's probably a good idea to give a try first of the kernel that comes with the ROM. Developers often adjust the ROM around the kernel they use and vice versa.
i went back to the James Bond kernel, no reboot or lag.
Lean IMO
