I noticed recently that there are some Ebay sellers selling BST-41 batteries at very low prices. All of them seem to be from Hong Kong or China.
I got this feeling that they are all fakes. This is too good to be true right?
Anyone who got one care to share your experience?
Personally I'd avoid batteries from third parties that are "incredibly" cheap.
Make sure the quality of these batteries are well known. (comments, forums, other users, etc.)
I'm not telling you to stay away from them, but to keep an extra eye open and make a bit of research on the manufacturer before you jump on.
These types of batteries should be rigorously controlled during manufacture, and I bet these cheap batteries aren't so well controlled during the manufacturing process.
Sometimes even some chemical components or processes are skipped to keep the manufacturing costs down.
Risk of third party batteries to catch fire or even explode, due to the lack of quality, are bigger.
I've seen a few battery fires myself, and every time it was due to a "low quality third party battery".
Search the net on "lithium-ion fire" and you might get a glimpse
Just bought a pair, and they don't work.
When you get them, they are charged to around 45-50% and when you put them in your phone, they don't charge at all...
Don't waste your money, even if they are cheap.
I gave around 15$ for the batteries...
Thanks for the replies. Amazon.com it is, then.
I got a what was advertised as a genuine battery off ebay from a uk supplier
and while it works fine in my old x1 it's a tiny bit too short to push itself up enough to reach the battery contacts. Easily remedied though by gluing sone thin plastic packaging to the base.
Still not sure if this is a fake or a factory second as it holds charge fine and has the correct markings. It cost around 10 gbp

I got a cheap pair from ebay that were labeled as Sony SBT-41 batteries, but of coarse the labels were fake. Do a google search on fake Sony SBT- 41 labels.
Also, apparently, cheap batteries can be dangerous

Seller has excellent reviews, although ive been burned by knock off batteries that claim to have more juice, and last half as long
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-X-Battery-...ccessories&hash=item41611a66cd#ht_4575wt_1396
i dont expect better battery life, ijust hope it lasts as long as my oem
any feedback?
Thanks !
by the way, they are ANDIDA batteries, reviews seem decent, but any other feedback from members here would be great.
Like i said, a spare OEM battery seems to be 50$
I just want one that will last as long, without being extended or making phone thicker

I like his ad: "Avoid the cheap Unbranded batteries!" It should add: "And buy the cheap supposedly branded ones instead."
Buy cheap, get cheap. You get what you pay for. If it seems to be too good to be true it usually is. And all other similar comments.
I'm sure it would hold you over in an emergency but no matter how you slice it, it's still a cheap Chinese knock-off battery.
As for feedback it's usually pretty meaningless because a few weeks later if it failed or gave poor service the "good" feedback for fast delivery has already been left. I had that happen to me on a cheap Nikon battery. It barely held a charge after a month and I already had left + feedback. The seller would take it back but to mail a $8 battery back to China was a waste of time and would cost almost $6. I ended up spending $40 on a real one which ended up costing me $48 because the cheap one had to be tossed out.
true, but these are ANDIDA batteries, reviews on XDA say not really as good as advertised, but all pretty much say better than oem
I think i will give these a try, like i said, im happy if it performs like a 1750mAH, and they are not 2-3$ ones, still 15$
if it's a third party brand battery, i'll go for goki and momax, i have always trusted them, and they dont make batteries with high battery capacity like 3000mAh with the size of a standard battery, it's not always possible, instead , their battery do last long and is rather good quality.
in ebay search for momax i9250, there are plenty, the power are 1650mAh.
if you want comments on them, here is a link on the momax i9000 extended battery, forget the comment on the case, and read comment on the batteries.

Anyone try one of these?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-1X-Gold...880555?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4167e42a6b
Made in Japan
Capacity: 2850mAh
Utra-high capacity battery
I'm guessing they are not 2850mah, but given the higher spec they could be closer to 2400mah. Price is a bit more than $8 (2x the el chepo generic ones w/ 2300mah). Less in a bundle of 2-3 w/ charger.
Another seller is listing a similar looking battery with 2430mah but for $15. Maybe the cheaper ones are the rejects.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2430MAH-Hig...979491?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1e6f290a63
Still no US sellers, so to be safe you could wait till a review or a US seller starts offering them (-> return if they aren't to spec). I took the plunge since I need some spare batteries and a charger.

+1 I always spend the extra cash to get a spare OEM battery. I understand people want to save money and for the most part those batteries arent bad but a lot of times they are not labeled correctly and arent the MaH's that they state they are and you are taking a chance. If you go with a cheap no name it's better to go with a better known no name like anker. But I dont think I would even put the battery you linked into my phone. Stop being cheap and just spend the 25-30 bucks for a OEM battery. After all it is a 600 phone. hehe Consider it like buying a Ferrari and putting cheap gas in it. haha

You need to know what your getting yourself into. Some give you 70-80% of an OEM one at 1/10th of the cost. I buy mine as a back-up when I can't charge (e.g. international air travel) or I'm in a rush. It is so convenient to have one of these in my bag and do a quick swap vs. charging. Been buying ebay batteries for years, some are crap, I normally buy 1-2 when I get my new phone for ~$10. Then wait for the US ones or a forum review where someone finds the correct seller who will give you 80-90% of an OEM at ~$5. The main downside is the lack of NFC, but I don't use that and if I needed it I would swap in the OEM battery.

It's all marketing. Chemically Gas is all the same and there is a standard for it.
Besides I don't have a $600 phone. I paid $220 (incl. tax). minus $120 from retention. minus $100 when I sell my (old free Vibrant). Psst, don't tell anyone, but I'm also doing 1% cashback and $xxx bonus for spending Y in 3 months. So technically I'm making money and should get another $100-150 in 2 years when I sell the S3. The extra batteries will increase it's resale value.
Call me a cheapskate.

Thank you. There is no way I would have found that thread.
I have both of them!
the 2430 mah is supposed to fit as standard OEM replacement, It a little too fat for standard cover, Have to push cover down hard, The 2850 mah is a replacement for the Samsung extended battery It fits extended case, but after testing both, neither one shows any improvement over stock batteries. I am running output and time tests on them both shortly....SAVE YOUR MONEY!
What is the largest and safest OEM battery for S3?
First and foremost
I in no way endorse, represent, and/or guarantee this product in question or any products sold on ebay by this or any other seller. Nor do i represent any seller or speak on there behalf.
just ran by this while looking at desktop cradles and since i know alot of people here are constantly looking for extended batteries and back plates i figured i'd post this.
price 14.89 + free shipping

with that said if you should choose to purchase this please leave feedback here for the rest of us in terms of quality and charge length.
u get what u paid for...thats all i gotta say, i had 3 battery one generic ebay, one mugen and one seido...the mugen and seido definitely live up to it name the generic is a PIECE OF ****...sometime u do run into a good one but after the 4th or 5th month it turn to ****.
that may be true but as i said people are constantly posting threads asking about high cap batteries and backplates that fit. I posted this for those people. i myself do just fine day to day with the standard battery.
they must own crappy ebay stuff then. i have no problem with any of my battery back plates
I can see people liking the big batteries if they already put their phone in a big fat case. For me I keep it out of the case and prefer to carry an Anker 2200mAh battery in my pocket. This gives me 4400mAh of walking around power and at home I always keep one on the charger. All this for $20.

There is no way the MSRP on that is $99. Definitely not a "steal" as they put it. I've been burned by that website before on a MicroSD card that was advertised as a sandisk class 10 but ended up being some knockoff brand when it finally got to me, loose and floating around an envelope in no packaging.

DO NOT buy this!!
It has a proprietary plug, is not micro USB, and the output is only 750mA... It will charge your phone extremely slowly compared to other Qi chargers.
Most other Qi chargers, even ones half this price have a 1000mA output.

I will admit its not that fastest charger out their, but by no means it is a bad wireless charger what so ever. Takes under 3 hours to get a full charge from 0%.
I had a Tylt Wireless Charger on order and had to cancel the order after reading about their over heating issues. While N5 users using the DT900 have nothing but good things to say about it, a simple search here on XDA will prove you that.
The Nokia DT-900 is a quality wireless charger, especially when compared to any cheap eBay wireless charger you can buy, I would never set my phone on a cheap eBay wireless charger.

If you generalize about the quality of a product strictly based on price and where you buy it from, you'll miss out on great products sorry to say. And I have done quite a bit of reading, both here on xda and elsewhere about the DT-900, and it's a mixed bag. Most of the high praise was due to the price when they had a fire sale, the performance is just average, many saying on the slow side. Also with issues of having to perfectly find the sweet spot, despite it having 3 coils.
While I agree the Tylt Vu is not my cup of tea, if you search for posts I've done about cheap Qi chargers. I've got ones that we're under $12, charge fantastically, and have no problems with detection. And yup, dirt cheap from ebay, the place where you would never set your phone down.

What I meant by the cheap eBay products is that they aren't name brands, meaning they are cheaply made by god knows who...
I don't think their sale price has anything to do with it, look at Tylts they had a 50% off sale on them, and it has just exposed the overheating issue with the N5 even more because more people bought them and were affected by the issue. Whereas Nokia's also had them on sale and has gotten good reviews, barely any complaints on the N5 forums.
But we are all entitled to our own opinions, so I respect yours.
I will happily read those posts,
Thanks.

Okay, but that's your mistake. You're assuming everything name brand is somehow better, and everything no name is cheap. In other words, you are the exact target audience for advertising, branding, marketing, and labels.
A Nike symbol on a shoe, doesn't somehow make it higher quality than the exact shoe without the swoosh stitching. They're still made at the same $1.50 hour sweat shops overseas. Only that little check mark allows a store to mark it up hundreds of dollars more.
Have you seen how a bread factory works? It's the same production line, at the very end it splits off in multiple directions for multiple brands. Wonderbread, walmart, house brand, no name. Same production line, same product, different branding, vastly different prices. Your breakfast cereal works the exact same way, same factories, different boxes and branding. No name/generic, skips the advertising and branding, so they charge less, and I save money.
But if you want to keep the opinion that generic = cheap garbage, go for it. I'll happily spend less money for a product that is the same or better, even if it doesn't have a few extra letters associated with a giant corporation.
Here's an example I did about the Nexus 5 quicksand cases. Name brand vs Generic ebay. One is $20, the other $0.99
You tell me if the 20x increase in price is worth it.

I never said that generic brands in totality are garbage. That's why in a post above I said depends.
You can't always compare cheap no name brands to high end brand names. Sometimes you can sometimes you can't.
But this is really worthless, this thread was simply about someone wanting to buy a $25 no name cheap wireless charger and I pointed out that for $24.50 they could buy something that is better in terms of quality and brand.
BTW nice find with the cases, in that case the generic brand was of very similar quality when compared to the name brand.

Thanks, but on technicalities, it's not "similar quality" to the name brand case. It is the SAME case, minus some ink for 1/20 the price.
Also, it isn't worthless to bring this topic up, because despite talking about it, you continue to keep making ignorant generalizations, in this case, ones with no factual basis.
For instance, why do you automatically assume his charger of choice is a "no name cheap wireless charger?" You know absolutely nothing about it. Sure there are ones out there that cost less, but why would you assume his is bad? Just because it isn't Nokia, Sony, Samsung, or whatever other billion dollar conglomerate, doesn't make the product no name or cheap.
Then you list a Nokia, saying it's better in terms of quality and brand, yet you have no basis for comparison other than what you're imagining.
Your recommendation, other than the word Nokia molded in the plastic in worse in every way than almost all other standard Qi chargers.
1) It uses proprietary inputs, almost every other manufacturer uses the standard micro USB adapter.
2) Most reviews say it requires finding the sweet spot to charge, or the phone doesn't recognize it.
3) It's output is 750mA while almost all others are 1000mA.
So again, how is the Nokia better in terms of quality and brand when in all actuality, the product is worse in every way?
This is going to be my last post as it isn't adding much to the topic.
Its like comparing a a Mercedes Benz to a Kia. Which one is better my friend? The Benz or the Kia. We all know the high end brand is going to be better.
If you tell me the Kia then we all know who is actually being ignorant.
Remember I earlier said it is my opinion, and that I respected yours. I'm not going to lower myself to getting into some stupid fight with you over this. Like I said and will say again it is my opinion. If you don't respect another people opinions the one who shouldn't be recommending products is yourself.
/end
