Hello all, I've been doing some research, and I am looking into purchasing an unlocked Galaxy Nexus here in Canada.
I am with the carrier Videotron, that uses the same network as T mobile. I currently have a G2x.
My question is, what are the different "models" of the nexus? I know there is the GT-I9250, but are there others? (for sprint, t-mobile, etc?)
Thanks in advance !
Not for tmobile but yes there is a sprint model which is the sph-L700, then there's the Verizon, dunno the model number and then there is the gsm version which is the GT model you named.
If you plan on rooting and modding and so on and so forth get familiar with the model nicknames.
GSM - Maguro
Sprint - Toroplus
Verizon - Toro.

Worth mentioning that Sprint and Verizon is LTE phones, and the international version is GSM.
The GT-i9250 (Maguro) would work with my carrier correct, as it works with T-Mobile's networks? (AWS)

yes, keep in mind though your 2x is faster in d/l speeds 42 vs 21 hspa. Not that its noticeable in actual usage.

How did you get the GSM i9250 working on Wind? I'm trying to find a T-mobile version with AWS 1700/2100.

Its called a pentaband phone for a reason.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
A phone could an infa-band, but if it hasn't got AWS 1700/2100, it's useless to me. Other forums, sites and Wind have said the T-mobile (AWS) version is the only one that'll work. If the penta band version includes AWS frequencies, that'll be the reason it works.
Look up pentaband. There is no T-Mobile galaxy nexus.
It will work. Not really sure how that isn't clear by the number of people using the galaxy nexus on T-Mobile.

There are only 5 3G frequencies that cell phones use (outside of Japan): 850, 900, AWS, 1900, 2100. If a device is called "penta-band", that means it supports networks that work on any of those 5 specific frequencies, not 5 random frequencies. With tri-band and quad-band devices, it's a different story, as there could be multiple versions of devices, but a penta-band device covers all the bands.
On a separate note, thread move to Q&A.

Hey I can potentially get a good deal on a Galaxy Nexus but it's a CDMA version of the phone. Does anyone know if it's unlocked and take T-Mobile SIM?
No, the Verizon nexus doesn't have the proper radios to support GSM on AT&T or T-Mobile. The only GSM bands it supports are its proprietary 4G LTE bands.
No.
.........
Damn. Thanks guys.
No. Its impossible.
Hello, I am currently with Fido/Rogers (GSM) carrier and am looking to switch to wind mobility (AWS)
I know the GNex is pentaband, does this mean that my phone will work perfectly at full HSPA speed with the AWS carrer when I switch?

It will work fine on Wind and Moblicity with the full speeds they offer. Same deal with T-Mobile US, which also operates on AWS frequencies.

FYI: "HSPA on GSM" has no meaning in North America.
The bands used by Fido, Rogers, Bell, Telus etc for HSPA are called CLR (850) and PCS (1900).
In Europe and Asia, the band they originally used for GSM (900) is also used for HSPA in some countries, and in those places it might be reasonable to call it "HSPA on the GSM frequency band".
But yes, the Galaxy Nexus supports HSPA on the CLR, PCS, IMT, GSM and AWS bands.
Hi
So i am looking to buy a samsung galaxy nexus to buy a samsung glaxy nexus. I am just going to be using it has a ipod touch of sorts so it will probably never be activated. But i want the galaxy nexus becasue it gets the updates from google so freaking fast. But i have a question. Looking on ebay i see different model numbers like sch-i515, sph-i700, gt-i9250, gt-i9250m, and gt-i9020a. What is the differance between these models? Do they all get the fast and rapid updates from google...like getting jellybean days after it was announced. Do they all have the same specs?
Thanks

SCH-i515 - Verizon CDMA model / 32GB storage - Runs mysid branch
SPH-i700 - Old Pocket PC / Windows Mobile Phone - Not a Galaxy Nexus
GT-i9250 - International GSM model / 16GB storage - Runs takju / yaju / yakjuXX branches
GT-i9250M - No differences from GT-i9250, to my knowledge.
GT-i9020A - Samsung Nexus S for AT&T if I'm not mistaken.

What is not really correct other than "I9250" is not the complete model number? gt-i9250 is the Google GSM model as I stated in my first post. Which should make it clear that it works on all 200 world-wide GSM carriers. The gt-i9250m is only a marketing trick so price matching doesn't work. gt-i9020a is a Samsung device from the At&t carrier that ran Android 2.3 not sure what device.
Hope this is stupid proof. Sorry my first post was vague.

i9250m not have HSDPA 900?
Another site notes that the i9250m does not have HSDPA 900mhz whereas the i9250 does. Can anyone confirm or clarify?
Thanks
Honestly if your not going to activate it and use it ad a music player get a Nexus S. The audio hardware on it is worlds ahead of the crap the Galaxy Nexus has, plus you'll save some money

GT-I9250 works on UMTS900, GT-I9250M doesn't (also network infrastructure dependent, logical that the radio could be different, I'm not sure), everything else is the same. This is why we say GT-I9250 is pentaband, adding the other four: 850, 1700, 1900 and 2100.

GSM Arena currently reports I9250M as NOT including HSDPA 900, whereas it reports that I9250 does. So what's the deal, does the I9250M support it or not?
When I replied to this thread months ago, on gsmarena, 9250M did not have pentaband. Show me one post where the device is connected to 900mhz freq.

I don't know for sure where he had it shipped to, but would the Google Play store have shipped I9250M models to US addresses? If so, were all the phones they shipped to US addresses I9250M, or some were I9250?
@beekay201, do you have an I9250? Would you mind looking underneath your battery for the exact model number (and part number if present) on your phone? I'm trying to figure out if there's really any difference between I9250 and I9250M, and if so, how to identify exactly what model a phone for sale is. I think a lot of people use I9250 to describe I9250M phones they're selling, and I've even heard of people getting a phone / manual set with mismatched model numbers.
Hi all,
I have a US GSM Galaxy Nexus (currently in use on T-Mobile with 4G working well). Does anyone know if this will work in Canada? I've googled and gotten very mixed results from my searches. It sounds like it may be fully compatible with Wind Mobile, but I'm not sure.
Thanks in advance!

Isn't the GSM Galaxy Nexus similar to what was available from the Play Store? I believe that version will work on Rogers, Fido, Wind and Mobilicity in Canada. Not sure about Bell and Telus though.
Hope that helps.

its a gsm nexus, so yes it will work.
you clearly didnt google anything.
I thought all Galaxy Nexus phones are suppose to come unlocked?
I bought/use mines from/on mobilicity, but its works on every GSM network so far that I have tested, eg. Wind/Fido/Bell/Rogers.
It'll work. Canadian carriers (GSM) use the same exact frequencies as US carriers. I know that Rogers, Fido, and (I think) Telus are equivalent to AT&T in terms of 3G ("4G") frequencies used (850/1900 MHz), while Wind and Mobilicity are equivalent to T-Mobile's frequencies (AWS, aka the combo of 1700/2100 MHz).
It doesn't really matter what carrier you go with with the Galaxy Nexus because it supports 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz for 3G (aka "4G"). It's pentaband; it's made to support all carriers in North America and most of the world.

Yes, I should have clarified. I expected it to work for calling and SMS but I was specifically curious about 3g/4g.

I Use the Gnex here on QUEBEC WITH fIDO AND IT WORKS like a charm. By the way, I'm able to use the 3G with a descent speed, not sure about the 4G.
The only difference between the international gsm Galaxy nexus and the US gsm galaxy nexus is that the US version comes with Google Wallet pre-installed. Everything else is the same.

For the [hopefully] last time, yes, it will work. They're all pentaband unless you have a CDMA model (Sprint, Verizon).

^^ That is about as good as an answer can get. I have a T-Mobile GNex that is on T-Mobile when in the U.S., Rogers when I am in Canada, and I have also used it on Vodafone in the UK with no issues at all, including data. It will work with all Canadian carriers as mentioned in the quote for phone and data.
