Google vs. Apple lawsuit (GNEX updates) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm on Sprint. From what I understand Google is gonna be taking off the native search capabilities from this phone. Does that mean in OTA updates the feature will be gone?

I'm sure OTA updates aren't gone.
But from what I understand, if I'm wrong correct me please.
Apple sued Google because apparently apple has rights over being able to search for certain things inside the phone. Like apps specifically I think
So I think that's probably what Google is gonna remove.
As far as I know and understand.

But im pretty sure the feature won't be entirely gone.
IMHO, apple is very childish.
not to mention that the only thing keeping them alive is the false 'hype' for their devices.
Trust me, ive had iphones, and Id switch an iphone any day of the week for a Nexus or GS3
But seriously, don't worry about the search thing, most likely google will either find a way around it, or you know..

because the nexus is pure google and google = android and android = google which means its related to the nexus which is infact google and android!
They start from the beginning again. By then they will be long forgotten.
I think by the time there have been 17 more versions of Android, we won't still be using Android...

Yeah if they go to the "version a year" model that Apple has, then that will be quite some time from now. I agree: Android probably won't be around then.
EDIT: Unless the smartphone market becomes like the PC market. I.e. Windows, Mac, Linux.

Android will be around, but the software may have a different name. Windows/Microsoft, Android/Linux, iOS/Apple, I think are here to stay.
They just change names like Baindroid Applesauce. A,A-Z then B,A-Z

Well they're already going 1 version a year and have said so. Guess we'll see. I just don't think that 5 years from now our phones will be running Android as we think of it today. Don't think this naming convention issue is something Google needs to worry about
I don't think we'll see Android live to make it to the letter Z...
It'll no doubt be chrome OS and simply be chips in our brains by then.

Change.org Petition against Apple

Hello everyone,
If you don't know today is a bad day for Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners. If you haven't heard yet Apple Inc. won a preliminary ban against all Galaxy Nexus sales in the United States. This is bad for all things android and I have created a petition so hopefully all of you will sign it.
Also please share with your friends and family and everything else. Don't let this go unanswered.
http://t.co/c97hudxY
Also if anyone can make a picture or something for me as a logo that would be great.
If you have any suggestions on anything I should add to the petition please tell me.
Here is another petition for the same thing.
https://defendinnovation.org
I feel your annoyance but I'm way too cynical to think this will have any impact on Apple at all. Just shake your head at them and grab a beer. There are lots of other petition worthy causes out there.

No petition will even raise an eyebrow, let alone get anything done.
This is how Apple does business...if you can't make a better product, keep them in court.

You realize how much you just got played right? Not only did that little iphone button get you to stay on their website longer; it got you to take a screenshot of it and then go to a Nexus forum and post on there causing even more people to see their website. AND you are going to contact customer service at vzw in which case they will then try to sell you something after reading your pointless email.
Seems like VERY effective marketing strategy to me.

true, but hopefully this will speed process up a bit if a lot of people voice their opinion... i mean you can do nothing and just wait or you can say something and then go back to waiting... so I'd rather say something, and if a lot of people start talking they'd start moving too.
from my experience with verizon and the thunderbolt's ICS update...it's not worth the time to hit up the social networks.
they'll just tell you it's coming to silence you then months go by without an update.

I used to have Verizon and now have sprint and struggling with school and full time job I sometimes forget to pay my bill. Verizon financial service cuts my service then makes me pay the re activation fee but with sprint I can call and tell them I can pay next week and they simply say okay.
But no 4g lte sucks but they do update the gnex rather quick.
Its a give or take with your service provider. I don't think there's that perfect provider right now.

Personally custom roms are better but its the principle that makes people go crazy for an update.
Also considering the vzw gnex have antenna issues, some people may actually need the update for the new radios

the beauty about #nexus is that ROM doesn't have any customization which in a lot cases causing instability for every day use, so I'd rather use stock ROM, but back to my HTC Thunderbolt days, I couldn't stand stock so I went w/ CM7 and I _LOVED_ it!

Wth does that even mean? The binaries are not under an open source license.
*and again Sprint doesn't have anything to do with how the binaries, or anything they don't own, are licensed.
They're not entitled to but maybe seeing that others want the binaries and that people still care maybe they'll do it.

They (Sprint) cannot do anything about no matter how many people request it from them. If you could actually get a response from Sprint it would either read "We don't know what you're talking about" or "We do not have control over licensing of other companies intellectual property". Read the licenses for the binaries. The companies you are entering an agreement with are Broadcom, Imagination Tech, Invensense, NXP, Samsung, Wildvine, & Google. Notice none of those companies are Sprint and none of them use an open source license because they are proprietary (read closed).

Here's a tip ask the right company. That would be Samsung & Google. It is the CDMA/LTE binaries that hold up torospr in AOSP but it's likely they don't have anything that isn't broken to provide.
Agreed, Sprint can't do anything about it. For the toroplus, I think the weight falls almost entirely on Samsung.

Means he has no idea how to respond to you, but throwing some tech related words and "open source" around sounded like a pretty good reply. I'm not even sure there's enough people that own a Galaxy Nexus on Sprint, let alone know what binaries are that would sign such a petition. Aside from that, the White House would say in 1-2 years something like "We can't make Sprint do crap (who has nothing to do with it to begin with), because they're not part of the government."
Kinda thought this thread would have been dead by now
