[Q] Proximity sensor calibration - HTC One X

Hey,
is there any way to calibrate the proximity sensor one the One X?
For some reason my proximity Sensor needs very high brightness values to activate the screen again, when calling. This happens on every ROM I use, even stock. Does anyone else have this issue and is there a solution? I've been looking for a while now but only found solutions for other devices. Help would be very appreciated

Are you taking about ambient light sensor?
Proximity sensor is sensor made for distance detection.

No I actually mean the proximity sensor. I know it shouldn't be depending on light but it does. I don't know why. First I thought the sensor is broken, but if there is enough light it reacts to movement. If not I'm not able to get the screen back on until the other person hangs up. Its really weird. Sometimes even the little red light stays on. In the DHD forum i saw a thread about someone who developed an app to recalibrate the proximity sensor, so i thought this could also be done for the HOX.

For your knowledge, the proximity sensor on One X is kind of binary type (return 0/1;object detected /none). There are some sensors test tool offers on play store, you may try them out..

Ok. I did that already. Same happens there. Thats why Im not sure if its malfunctioning or just needs to be calibrated.

Well, this is enough. I have to assume that its a hardware defect and I wont send it in a 6th time.Getting rid of this contract next week.

i had exactly the same problem. You can fix it with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882725 this patch. All you need is a custom rom with init.d support. Cheers!

You can use this.

Proximity sensor issue...please help

the phone screen should turn off when in a phone and close to my ear due to the proximity sensor
but the screen doesnt turn off....i dont know why
its a stock desire hd with the recent gingerbread update so its not rooted.
any ideas for troubleshooting?
its really annoying
i have an app that tested the sensor and found no issues (ie, it measured me moving my finger on and off the sensor without issue)
no root, cant help much, no custom kernels
iv always had the same issue, even with Lee's rom installed, the proximity sensor never seems to pick up at the right time.. is there any way of calibrating it?
There was an app on xda somewhere for calibrating the dhd sensor. Try a search on here and try Google. Think it might be a known bug with some dhd.

thanks, yeah i read that thread, but i'm using GB stock, and unfortunately its not yet supported by that app.

[Q] No blank screen during call?

Since a few days my DHD does not go blank anymore while making a call? I searched all the possible settings, but can't find anything. Google doesn't show anything either..
When normally while making a call the screen goes blank, it stays on now. So the weirdest things happen during the call..
Anyone any ideas?
TNX!
Are you rooted? If you are you can use the proximity recalibrator tool. Search for it in the Development section.
If you arent, please inform us and we'll do the best we can to help.
Nope; not rooted, standard device with 2.3.3.
Maybe your prox snsor is broken. Download 'proximity screen off' free from market.
A cool app and also a good way to check the prox sensor. See if the sensor is working.

Ye it seems like the sensor is broken. Its a little thing next to the earpiece. Nasty little bugger.
But yes first download that app and see if it says anything.
Installed it, push "start services" and thats all thats happening...
You may need to go into settings. Select.to turn off device when sensor covered. Cover prox sensor for time set. See if it asks for perrission to turn off screen. If not check settings. If it still doesnt work sensor is broken.

[Q] Proximity sensor annoying problems

Hello all XDA members.
This is my first post here so please be kind
My HTC Wildfire S had recently cracked touchscreen which I replaced by new, bought on ebay.
After I replaced the touchscreen I had 2 problems.
1. First problem which is solved was unresponsive touchscreen for first few sec's. The solution I found that worked was upgrade android from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5.
2. The other problem is much more annoying. While ringing my screen goes black and can't be awake. The only thing I can do is remove battery and restart the mobile. While the screen is blank I can see proximity sensor working (blinking frequently) but is not responsive. I started to look for the solution and found the app ProximityScreenOff which I'm testing but not fully happy. There is a very helpful option in the app to check the sensor readings and the weird think is that proximity sensor is partially working. I mean when I start a test it shown value 9.0 and when I cover the sensor it shows value 0.0, then when I uncover it it is still 0.0 and the sensor is blinking like while ringing.
So I would like to ask You all for the solution of my problem. Is there any way to fix it? Possible problem may be the new touchscreen (as it was working perfectly fine before I changed it). There is like dark blue paint that both sensors are not fully transparent (UV protect??).
I didn't modify my mobile in any way (not rooting, android 2.3.5 downloaded and updated by software update).
Thanks for all Your help
Disable proximity sensor...
Add a line in system/build.prop
gsm.proximity.enable=false
the problem occurred is when ur mobile mechanic disassembled ur phone he might have failed to assemble properly.

proximity sensor always on

Hi guys m facing a strange issue. I have observed that sometimes my proximity sensor remains on. I tried to find out the app causing it by Force Stopping each app one by one but that doesn't solve the problem. .
I am not using any motion like quick glance which uses the sensor or any other app like turning the screen on off (eg smart cover etc)
only a reboot fixes this issue but after sometime (say few hours or 1-2 days) the sensor turns on. . Can you suggest me what else shall I do? coz m observing more than normal battery drain in stand by mode. . Please help!

I too have noticed it and posted it on a thread also
I also notice this..only now i came to know that it is proximity sensor..will appear as a dim red right and if it stays on, it turns off only if restarted..might be a bug..should we report it to samsung so that they will fix it in updates?
I have noticed one thing that after 2+ or more (random) days of usage if I receive/make a call the sensor doesn't turn off. .might be this is a s/w bug. .but this is what I have noticed after closely monitoring my phone. .

I've noticed this too! Didn't know the dim red light was proximity sensor. But i've noticed it only twice (with battery below 40% on both occasions).
Viber has a known bug that cause the proximity sensor to be always on. If you uses it, u need to update to the latest version i think its v2.2.3.109.

Got the same thing, however i didn't notice it affecting battery life whatsoever, still an awesome battery life.
Still, I would love to see what's the cause of this and how to resolve it.

Even though I first got this proximity sensor bug after I turned on "increase volume in pocket" (only 1 time so far), I'm pretty sure it's not related, because I did a few tests and as far as I could tell the phone increases the volume based on its position (and possibly movement) in the second it receives the call. If it's vertical (like in a pocket), or on its side (like in a bag), when you get a call, it will increase the volume. If the phone is horizontal, like on a table, and starts ringing, the volume doesn't increase, and it won't increase even if you pick it up and move it around while it's ringing.
I also thought initially that it uses data from the proximity sensor, but I tested and it doesn't care if it's covered or not when the phone rings, it appears to use data from the accelerometer/gyro exclusively.
I'm try turn all motion off right now. Let see if it can solve the problem
I have the same problem.
I resolve it by pressing volume up + home + power.
Let it restart and so far after about 1mth+ did not encounter this issue any more.
Hope this help :fingers-crossed:
i have the same problem
all motions are off
and still have it random....only restart to close the sensor
