Lost my root virginity today.
Looking to change my lock screen lock and unlock sounds. I converted the .wav to .ogg, renamed, went to system/media, and pasted.
However, now I don't have a lock or unlock sound anymore at all. Is there something else I need to do (format differently or wizardry).
There was a video of a guy doing it on his OG EVO4G, couldn't find anything specific to a Sammy however.
.mp3 files should work too
Also there might be a size limitation so check that out too

Thanks for the swift reply!
I got the file size below the original files' sizes and it still won't function ='(
Tried to use an mp3 but no go. I think I broke all the sounds in that folder none of them work now =(

Do what you did with using the same filled format, reboot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik, reboot. See what that does. And make sure the permissions are set correctly.
Didnt have CWM on my phone, took care of that.
Used the .ogg format, wiped cache and dalvik cache. Tried it out and it didn't work but I wasn't sure about the permissions.
Would using ES File Explorer instead of Root Explorer have anything to do with it?
I enabled the r/w for ES FEx in settings.

What do you mean by permissions? I tried using the fix permissions in CWM but that didn't do anything.

If your using root explorer, long press on the new sound and select permissions and select the ones that the old sound had selected. Then continue with what I had said before.

So I'm not able to find a 'how to' on changing the boot animation, been running incRom for awhile now and figured I'd change things up a bit. Anyone know how or know a link to view how to change this? Thanks in advance
Do you have root explorer? If so you can copy and paste a new boot animation right in to the proper location. Probably system/customize/resource. Just rename or move your current one so you can still use it later on. I just made a pretty badass one recently. If you want I can post a flashable zip for you. Just let me know where its located and what clockwork recovery you have.

Ok need alil help on this one, I can do it through recovery but for the sake of learning to do this another way I'd like to try it through root explorer. I found the original boot animation listed under system/bin/ what do I need to do from there? Rename the original one and do I change permissions on that one and if so which ones do I check and uncheck?

Alright. So from root explorer scroll down to system. At the top it has mount ro and mount rw. You want to mount rw. Now find the original boot and rename it to VZW_bootanimation.zip.bak. Go back to the SD card through root explorer, long press and copy the new bootanimation. Now go back to system/bin and paste. Should work from there. Ive never had to set or fix permissions. Holla back.

where would I find this file? Did a search in root explorer and it turned up nothing?
Hi all,
I've had my Nexus since the first batch with the volume fix came out at Expansys. and i couldnt be any happier about a phone.
Rooted and installed Roms and everything was buttery smooth. UNTIL.
One day i hooked up the phone to my Windows 7-64bit machine and all i can see in the explorer were the default folders that came with the phone first day i hooked it up.
I mean everything is there i can see everything in ES File Explorer, tried it also in my other XP system, same dilemma.
I know nothing is wrong with the drivers on both computers since am not new to this rooting, ADB and all. This is my first internal storage phone other than an iphone.
and nothing is wrong with the ROM since i wiped data/factory reset in CWR and reflashed MCR ir10. Everything is 100% except this annoyance.
I cant even backup everything since i cant drag and drop the needed files. So formating everything WILL NOT be an option.
Please if someone can tell me what am missing, i would be very grateful. PLEASE HELP. Thanks all in advance.
Well technically gnexus uses a protocol called MTP for file transfer which has a cache that updates periodically. It should reindex after a reboot. You can try wiping cache in cwm and using SDrescan from market to force a reindex.
Since I use the Galaxy Nexus, I have never transferred any files using pc.
I always transfer wirelessly via wifi using es explorer, or dropbox.
It works pretty well and fast.

I have the same issue of it not showing all the files in sdcard when connected. I am on a stock ROM. There was no way I was gonna try to transfer the files over wifi so I ended up using adb to copy the files. It's not ideal but it gets the job done.
I will also add my 2 cents,
I have the same problem on ALL of bigixe roms from 4 - on...
I have given up trying...
You mean just adb pull the whole mnt/sdcard?? or is there another way to do it??

It depends what you want to do. You can pull a whole folder or specific file. I would not pull the whole mnt/sdcard if that's not what I wanted. I don't see any reason you would do that except if you wanted a backup of your whole sdcard folder.

MTP wouldn't work if it wasn't selected there in the first place... The problem is that it's not indexing new files/folders for some reason even if you try to force it to re-index.

Same missing folders here. Try to rescan media with SDrescan and get FC of android.process.media.

To fix it, you need to remove the patch installed by Lucky Patcher.
Open Lucky Patcher. Press menu button and hit Troubleshooting, then Uninstall Patches.
This will remove all patches that were installed by Lucky Patcher for all apps.
Now, install Titanium Backup.
Note that you have to reapply patches for all apps you had previously patched.
another way to solve your problem in a rooted phone is using the program root explorer to clean the dalvik cache and cache folders, reboot and it shoud be able to install tb

Not sure I can be of much more help if you're on a deodexed ROM already. I've stuck with rooted/de-bloated stock for the time being. Wiping the caches solved it for me, aside from the first boot after the cache wipe, of course, but I'm still fully odexed aside from that one file I deleted.

So it looks like I need to modify the zip install to remove the .odex file.
Makes sense since de-odexing turns the .odex into a classes file inside the apk, which is then edited. I'll edit the zip today to remove to .odex file.
