[Q] Launchers - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using a TSF Shell and SBD Shell. Question is whence I'm using non stock launchers the kindle app doesn't open, and I cant read books because they obviously aren't displayed. Any fixes. Non Rooted btw.

The Kindle app framework is built into the launcher. The only way to use it otherwise would be to sideload the newest version from Google Play.

Quite frankly, the easiest way to do it is to just have a link to the stock launcher on your homepage on the alternate launcher. It shows up in the app drawer as "launcher" with the kindle logo and you can just tap that and then just click on books like normal. Otherwise I would say root and pop on an ICS ROM

Cannot install Facebook 1.9.0 on Kindle Fire

I got an apk for apktop but when I installed it, it doesn't work. The new Facebook app has three separate apps. The main app, messenger and camera so there should be 3 icons. I have one icon, and when I open it, the camera app opens. I cannot get to the main Facebook Feed. Anyone have a fix?

You can use ATK to switch to the main Facebook process. It isn't the greatest of workarounds, but it does work.
I noticed that last night, but only in the stock book shelf launcher. I just always use GO Launcher.
Yeah with golauncher installed it's all good! Thanks guys!

What's ATK?
Edit: I installed facebook 1.8.4 and its working great.

ebook lending with ROM

apologies if this has been asked/answered before.
the wife has a kindle fire that i have put CM9 on. and for the most part she is fine with everything.
but she has amazon prime and i guess you can "check out" books for your kindle. but we are having a hard time figuring out how to make that work.
I was able to purchase FREE books and sync them with the kindle app.
but can't seem to get the lending thing down.
any help is appreciated.
thanks!
anybody? nobody reads books on their kindle? lol
Not sure what advice I can give you. I am using a CM10 ROM with a the generic Kindle app for android and I don't have a problem borrowing books. When I am browsing the Kindle book store the books that are available for borrowing (not very many actually) are marked with the "prime" tag just like they are when using a stock Kindle. You may need to be logged in to your prime account to see that but I am not sure since I'm always logged in.

Thanks for the reply - that gives me something to go on..
we would have expected to see what you are seeing, but whenever we press the kindle store icon, it just takes you out to an external web page and its difficult to navigate.
I'll try a clean wipe and install of cm10 tonight and see if that helps
Thanks!

Actually I am seeing the same thing you are getting (the web page). That is the way that the generic android Kindle app works. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between the Kindle app built into the stock Fire os and the android app (stock is much better). I have read several threads by people wanting to install the stock app on a custom ROM but I am not sure if anyone has been successful. You might want to try searching for that.

[Q] Trick Google Play Store for installing more apps?

I cannot find the original thread that explained how it was possible to trick the Google Play store into thinking my Kindle Fire device was some other tablet. I am rooted and have the Google Play Store on my device, but unfortunately I still have to do a lot of backing up apps and sideloading from my Razr M rendering the root and Play Store access on my Fire nearly useless. Just wanna be able to trick Google Play into thinking its some other device that will alow me to install more apps. I'm fairly noobish so i'll need somewhat detailed instructions.

It has to due with tweaking the build.prop.......I know twa_priv's cm10/sgt7 ROM thread has a link to a flashable modified build.prop that disguises it as a Galaxy Nexus.......wonder if it works with other ROMs?

Oh you know what, thats where I saw it. I haven't installed his ROM. I wonder if it's possible for use without the custom ROM.

I'm not that knowledgeable to answer that but here is another link that might help if you ever go to a cm7 or cm9 Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27784658
