[Q] What doesn't work on AOKP? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking to move to an ICS ROM, and currently AOKP appears to be what I'm looking for. The one thing I haven't found yet is a 'Works/Doesn't Work' list for the AOKP ROMs.
I've searched their forums and their wiki, but I have yet to find this list. Is there one available?
Is there a different ROM that has everything possible working? (I can live without the FFC and camcorder, but I need GPS, SMS, phone, etc).

known issues on ICS
FFC
camcorder
4g
netflix and HULU PLUS

I understand that is the across the board issues, but I've read that in an old version of AOKP the GPS was not working 100%, so I was wondering if there was a ROM specific list.

There is a fix for those who are getting gps issues. Here is the link

So, other than the norm, everything works?

AOKP has been known for random reboots. I suggest you wait till a new build gets pushed out because a new dev is overhauling the entire AOKP build system for the evo.
Feel the soapy goodness!!

I have been running jmz cm9, I've had no random reboots or GPS issues. HBO go, YouTube HD works great for me.
What's not working: FFC, 4G

MEZOCLONE

The only problem I have with MIUI is the random reboots, but I'm using an outdated version

[Q] Most Stable Rom?

I've tried almost every ROM on the development page but could not find any ROM that is stable (I.E. GPS not working, or Camera issues, etc.) Is there any ROM that anyone here recommends that is most stable?
Probably Villision 1.0

How about Cyanogenmod 6.1.1? Granted its Froyo but its Stable. Other then that just root the stock rom and get the junk off of it. I did those for a while. Now I'm on Cyanogen Nightly 31 having no issues. I have been lucky being able to fix the GPS issues.
The latest Virtuous is pretty stable for me! and everything works
I've never once had an issue with cyanogenmod.. just flashed rc4. Idk why everyone complains about gps, my works flawlessly.. id say cm6 would be the most stable thou as someone already said. But it is froyo.

So you're saying your phone isn't experiencing the Gmail margin issue that's been present post CM7-RC2?

I think miui is the most stable, to be honest. Those folks in china know their stuff. Haven't had a single damn thing force close on me with that rom. No joke. Battery life is just magical too.

Go for the ROM with the most replies.
Any ROM will have bugs. The older and more popular it is, the more likely, the bugs will have been worked out. Go for older, stable roms instead of newer, unstable ones.

Seems to me the GPS issue on CM7 may be location dependent, since some have the issue, others don't, and flashing various different radios seems to solve the issue for many. Since I travel a lot for work, it gives me less than 100% confidence that the GPS will work when I really need it to.
There is also the persistent video camera landscape/portrait playback bug (but I haven't tried the latest nightlies or RC4). Plus, the camera button is laggy on CM7. So I'm onto Virtuous, but ADW EX as launcher (Sense is sloooow). Virtuous is built off the stock Desire Z ROM, so its very stable. Off the top of my head, the only common bug I know of is wake issues depending on kernel and clocking, but those are easily solved by SetCPU profiles, or using the Standard Virtuous kernel. I haven't tried a great many ROMs, but Virtuous is working well for me so far.
Gingerbread ROMs are all ports from other phones, since a native GB "official" ROM has not been released for the Vision yet. Until that happens, the Froyo builds are going to be less buggy than the GB ones.

[Q] List of Android 4.0 ICS ROM's for Evo 4G?

Hello,
Just wondering if there's a list of ics roms for the evo 4g? I saw there was one listed on the wiki - and looks like there's one more that i noticed on the rom development forum. Don't suppose there's a list which would list install steps/requirements and what's working/not working for however many ICS roms there are?
thanks
just gotta lol at this...umm some ofthe roms working and not working can change daily sooooo i'll chime in on the ones ive used
things that arent working across the board is 4g and front facing camera (ffc)
Gummyworms 4.0.3 ics version. camera is shifty works with a fix camcorder and panoramic dont work and no hardware acceleration (hwa).
Aokp based off of 4.0.4hwa does work. seems to have a something that is buggy that keeps it rebooting but to be honest isnt happening to everyone. camera works with a fix and camcorder and panoramic dont work (i cant remember that exactly but im pretty sure they dont)
and currently im on jamies first release of kwiq ics which has hwa, based of 4.0.4, camera works with a fix but camera and camcorder are not working. buuttt i have had no reboots yet which imo means its suppper stable.
rope made a comment that was really good to explain a difference but i dont remember it soooooo aokp/gummy are awesome if you want to have built in customizations and have a lot of bugs worked through but they have been through some releases. kwiq is really stable as i said but not as much to customize out of the box. which is a trade off but i have to say this is also first release of kwiq so i think there is room to grow there
I was just about to try evervol's rom based on 4.0.3 since it seems like that one ismore stable then the newest one based on 4.0.4

Not limited to ics but it does provide ask the basic info of the ROM then a link to the xda thread

[Q] What is the most stable ICS rom currently?

I've been playing around with my girlfriends incredible trying to get a decent 4.0 rom. I just put on AOKP M5 (what I use for my nexus) and it seemed fine until she tried to use her gallery, which glitches and crashes often.
Are there any relatively problem free ICS roms for the incredible now? I was thinking of trying CM9 next but I'd like to know if its stable first so she doesnt have to go through the hassle of setting up her phone again unnecessarily.

does she care about the camcorder or netflix? if not, i would recommend CM9 kang by drk.hd, link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558923
You can download the app videocam illusions from the play store, and that'll work as a camcorder. Other than that, near 100% stable and bug free, it's only gonna keep getting better from here.

Abduction 2.0a9 was the most stable of the ones I've used. I never had any forced restarts and I believe the gallery works fine. You will need to flash the camera fix that's floating around though.
The only problem with it is battery life, but you can supposedly fix that by using one of the hwa-enabled incredikernel betas.
+ one for CM9.. more active development stable except minus the stock camcorder..
Abduction is OK.. mostly stable but development is dead.. and its used as an advertisement for a useless competing forum in which u have to check along with XDA for updates.... it gets old.
But all the rooms are ASOP.. so they all have the same inherit flaws.... camera and flash usually broken..

Just to respond about the gallery. If the ONLY issue she has is the gallery, use "QuickPic." If there are additional issues then count me as another vote for the unofficial CM9.

[Q] Working Stock ICS or Jellybean ROMs?

I have spent the last few hours searching all over, just like I do every few months, trying to find a stable ICS or Jellybean ROM with everything actually working. Finally decided to just post and ask for some help. I don't care about beats audio or any other stuff people add in, just plain stock is preferable, but I need wifi, 4g, youtube, and all the camera stuff to work. Are there any ICS or JB ROMs out there where everything works the way it should?

*sigh*
There's so much I want to say. But instead, I will say this:
This device is only officially supported through Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). Any Android versions past that do not have official drivers, so they would have to be built from scratch, for a device that has been EOL for quite a while. Thus, your statement "where everything works the way it should" doesn't make sense, as the device doesn't officially support running ICS or JB.
That being said, all of the ICS/JB ROMs suffer at the very least the same list of things not working - FFC, 4G, HDMI out, Netflix. Videocam can also be an issue on some. So, based on your criteria, you'll be sticking to Sprint-based Gingerbread Sense ROMs .

Not sure why all the sighing and such but thanks for the info. It's hard to tell because it's not always clear what people base a ROM on and it seems like only about half the people posting ROMs list what doesn't work. I was hoping there might be a cynagenmod 9 or 10 for it at some point but it doesn't seem likely.

CM9 and CM10 both exist for the supersonic, but development has been discontinued on them. But that doesn't matter anyway; those features I already mentioned still don't work, so they're disqualified from your consideration.

The CM9 and CM10 builds to which I refer are completed ROMs. They're just not officially supported by CyanogenMod. But they're built directly from CM source.

To me finished means things work. I mean what makes it finished? Just that you are able to install it on the phone? If that were the case there was a finished version more than a year ago. Obviously cyanogen doesn't think it's finished either otherwise they would make it official.

That's not what makes a CM build official or not. But I'm not going to bore you with facts you can find via Google. And yes, everything that can/should work work. But there are updates to drivers that can make things work better, or tweaks here and there that can be done. Besides the fact that Google releases updates/patches that need to be included.
Since I answered your original question, I will now digress.
Lol how many times a week are people going to ask about ics and jb builds with everything working, or official HTC releases without looking for themselves first before realizing they don't and wont ever exist. Yes they are finished, they boot, make calls, get data, the only things that dont work on em are 4g and FCC. Just unroot your phone and forget about it, you aren't cut out for this business son.

You need to assess just how important some features are to you. If you only have an Evo, and somehow don't have an upgrade on your plan, then you have 2 options.
1: Keep it stock, everything works. No hassle, just poor battery life. Maybe get Superuser and remove the adware/junk if you feel like it.
2: Use a custom ROM which will not have working 4g, FFC, and other features that you won't know they don't work until you go to use them.
Weigh the pros and cons and make a choice, but everyone here so far is correct. The device is EOL and there will most likely never be a working ICS/JB build that has all features working. That would require too much work, for an EOL device.

If you must have all radios and hardware of the EVO 4G fully functional, you should stick with a gingerbread ROM v 2.3.5 or later. MikG 3.11 is a Sense based ROM that is well integrated and fully supports all EVO 4G operations. You can download MikG 3.11 at http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10338-MikG-v3-11-3-9-2012.
As others have indicated, no ICS or Jellybean ROM supports 4G or the FFC. Sadly the necessary work for the hardware drivers is not likely to happen. If you do not require working 4G or FFC, there are a number of fully functional Android 4.0.4 (ICS) or 4.1.2 (Jellybean) ROMs available. I happen to like HALO Series II Nova http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903469&page=33 and AlienMOD Solar Flare Series V http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086163 with the caveat that I am experiencing some tint issues with camera applications in these ROMs.

Rom Recomendations?

I picked a pair of these phones cheap on ebay and I'm excited to see all the options for such an old phone. My question for you guys is what Rom would you recommend? One of the phones is going to my wife. She doesn't care what version she is on. For her the camera has to work as well as texting, and facebook, etc. etc. I think I saw an older gingerbread based rom that would do well for her but I can't see if their might be anything newer. As for me I'd like to get away with at least ICS so I can use google notes and I need the gps to work as it tracks my business mileage. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I was looking at Evervolv for me but the thread trailed off and I don't know if mms was ever fixed.

KitKat: MMS was never fixed on Evervolv 4 (kitkat). I gave up trying to fix it, and there has been very little activity on the legacy devices from the Evervolv team.
JellyBean: Tiny's CM10.1 was probably the best Jelly Bean build, the thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050930
I believe this is the most recent build: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050930
Video Camera is either mostly broken or completely dead, I don't exactly remember, but other than that it worked pretty well, I ran that ROM as my daily driver for a long time.
ICS: Most of the links for ICS builds will likely be dead by now, but there is still a build of Evervolv ICS available at the bottom of this page:
http://evervolv.com/devices/inc
I ran that one for a while too, but I don't remember anymore if it had any nagging issues. Evervolv 2.2.0 is ICS, 3.0.0 is Jelly Bean.
For your wife, Gingerbread sounds like the way to go, CyanogenMod still has some builds on their site:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=inc
GPS should work fine on whatever ROM you choose.
Awesome! I pulled out my old Dinc so that I could make it my designated business phone since I didn't want to use my personal one! The last ROM I ever installed I remember having issues with lag

Thank you so much!
For me personally, I'm still using CM7. It's been great for, well, 3 years so far. I've played with ICS, JB, KitKat and such, but the stability of CM7 is great. I've been using the stable CM 7.2 build since it dropped in 2012.
The other ROM that is decently stable is of course the stock ROM. Though the data/data fix is just about necessary for it, seems to fill up faster with Sense vs AOSP.
I still use my Inc from time to time, and in service when my daily is being repaired or being sold. Been using the iPhone recently, but always come back at some point. Have to give each a try with each release,
You will find they aren't that fast in todays terms and rich, data heavy web sites and apps. But for general usage it's still just fine. I use CM7 and Smart Launcher or Launcher Pro, stock apps like Maps, Gmail, SMS, etc all work great. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Dropbox, Evernote are also good to go. So it's still capable. Just take note the batteries are old if they haven't been replaced, and weren't ever very good to begin with.
Cheers!
