What is the perfect ROM now? Not HD.

There is no perfect rom, there is only a rom you like best. Other people can tell you what they prefer but that does not have to apply to your preferences.

did u try Leedroid?
It's all up to you. I'm using Oxygen 2.0 and I love it. It's missing the video camera function until the N1 OTA update but I have never used that anyways so I'm more than happy with it.
I personally use MIUI, brilliant rom but confusing updates, they realease new software all the time to its virtually bug free for me.
It has too many features to list, i find something new and by the time i found all the extras they release another update.
Try MIUI, its like a iphone but you can easily change the theme.
Battery life is somethin else and im using there stock kernel, 17 hours, sync on, wifi on, auto brightness (actually works) and mild to heavy use.
I'll try MIUI
Tried LeeDroid, MIUI, Oxygen (1.0 and 2.0), VillainROM, GinerVillain, SuperVillain, DeFrost, CM6, CM7, Ginger Redux, Amethyst. To be honest, I currently have CM7 installed but I am constantly changing ROMs anyway. CM7 to me actually works the best out of the Gingerbreads. I would say that if you want speed, stick with MIUI if you installed it since I got 2135 score in Quadrant (MIUI 1.1.12). But it is up to you. There is NEVER the "best" ROM.
i have tried about 10 different roms and i think insertcoin for hd is nice also leedroid is very good and fast
for me starburst, it is very stable, almost no issues at all. stock sense rom + the magnificent data2sd. i used to flash a rom once in a while, but now..im sticking to starburst. maybe its for a long time.
The op should be more specific in what he looks for, is it sense, non-sense or miui rom?
I find Sense ROMs more appealing than other two, and my favorites are Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
Leedroid is very fast, I used it for more than a month, but found that some memory leaks are happening to me and a few other users. It is a deal breaker for me at this time since the phone becomes unusable when it happens until rebooted, so I swinged back to AuraxTSense. It's performance is also admirable, it boots somewhat longer, but at this time it seems more reliable than the Leedroid. Both are equally fast and snappy in operation. Also snq's kernel has some quirks at this time, the phone rebooting itself when connected to a car cradle, screen turning on during charge being some of them for example.

CM7 Every Build till now has major issues at the moment (major for me for some none) as MMS and VPN don't work.
I am using the Redux-RC2.1 running gingerbread 2.3.2 in a very smooth way - highly recommended. VPN issue hasemt been solved yet but should be in the upcoming RC3 coming soon from the developer. MMS is not an issue and working great

Yes it works!
I've been using HiApk for a while now, loving it's speed. It's problem free so far.
Leedroid and AuraxTSense.
In my opinion there is a perfect rom.. Oxygenrom
It has a very fast and stable base, perfect power menu configuration
All functions like camera and gps work proper and rom feels really smooth
Depends on what appeals to you but personally, AurxTremeGinger or Reflex S do it for me.
Asking what the best rom is, is like asking what the best car is.
I found Redux v1.2 is a brilliant Rom Clean, fast and stable.
At the moment I test the InsertCoin v17 Rom and I found also it is a very nice Rom.
There is no perfect rom at the moment...
- Froyo sense roms are the most stable (Leedroid, Teppic's, AuraxTSense...) but they are not the fastest. (I think we can add HD/Z roms in this categorie)
- AOSP rom lack of some features like 720p, FM radio, HTC apps and widgets ; there is also this endless call delay bug. Despite that, they are the fastest roms at the moment and they can be very minimalist (and I'm sure a lot of people like minimalist roms like DevNull or Oxygen)
- MIUI is quite interesting but settings menu are so slow.
- New Sense roms begin to grow up, but I think the fact we are porting RUU from other devices to our Desires affects the quality of those roms.
.....ROM that works....been flashing ROMs for a while now and can't seem to find something that's stable enough to use daily...besides one I would rather not name so I don't look biased....
I know ALOT of hard work goes into these ROMs & it is quite a pain in the ass dealing with people complaining about every little detail, but why release something with alot of bugs?
If a ROM constantly freezes, removes apps by itself, reboots by itself repeatedly, force closes every 10 minutes, needs 3 scripts to be run before it works and/or only 1/2 of the tools/gadgets on the device work correctly then maybe it shouldn't be released as fast.
I GREATLY APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK by all the Devs on this (and other) forums...do not take this personal anyone, please.
If someone knows of a somewhat-stable ROM PLEASE point me in that direction.
I know how to flash ROMs & kernels and wipe everything and do all the backups & whatnot....not following directions is not the problem....
I have done what is recommended by so many members of this forum---"just download & try them for yourself"....I've done that, but can't seem to find a decent ROM/kernel combo....
if anyone can offer a recommendation it would be greatly appreciated.
[I'm gonna get some sh*t for this post, I know it]
I found decks rom to be good and stable with real good battery life. I've tried it with tiamat kernels they were ok but my phone I decided my phone likes the stock kernel the best. Only thing i had to fix was the gps but I've read that all aosp roms need that fix. Or if all else fails you can go with trustee ol fresh rom
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think you're flashing wrong. Ive flashed about 90 percent of the roms in xda and I've never gotten the problems you stated. Try mikg v2.5. That's what I'm running right now for sense. For AOSP try kushdeck 1.2.1. It's 2.3.4 based and really stable in my opinion
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
yeah the MikG 2.1-3.0 v2.52 is the stable ROM I was talking about in the OP...that's what I've been using but I'm looking for a Sense 3.0 ROM to flash...I use Amon-RA & VR Superwipe to wipe everything (I run VR twice for every ROM) so I'm sure everything gets wiped...
I didn't mean all of those errors happened at the same time on the same ROM....I was just stating that quite a few ROMs have at least one or more of those problems....
know of any somewhat-stable 3.0's?
Thanks for the reply BTW.
For sense I have used EVOlved Rom and loved it. Just flashed Synergy a few days ago and it seems to be running really well also. Godmode for Synergy doesn't work well for a lot of people but non godmode works really well for me

MIUI is an AOSP ROM, correct? Similar to CM7?
I tried out CM7 & that was pretty decent, but I really like the Sense 3.0 ROMs.
Finally got a nice setup (so far) with the Synergy RLS1 & Aggressive Freedom .9 Universal kernel...device is crazy-fast now with no FCs or any problems...yet...hopefully all will stay good.

Read the entire OP, so you can learn all the nuances and head over to miui.us for all the support you'd ever need.
And by that I mean most advanced. I'm the Sense loving guy, but I've heard a lot of good things about ICS. I'd like to try it out, but honestly I can't figure out which of the few existing ROMs to choose. I'm aware of that most of them are still in the alpha-beta phase, but I hoped someone could help me pick one. Or is it better to just wait for Sense 3.6 ROM?
I can vouch for the Sandvold ICS (Bet 0.3.6). I have been running it on my Desire for several days now. If you use Titanium Backup, be careful restoring too much of the system data (I successfully restored the SMS/MMS stuff, but didn't bother with anything else). I also had to restore my APN settings to default to get my mobile data to work (Settings->More->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names->Menu->Reset to default).
I can also confirm that partictioning your SD card to provide an sd-ext works along with a2sd (including the Dalvik Cache) - the the Desire has a ridiculously small amount of internal ram.
Haven't had any issues at all.
Damian
i can recommand BCM b0.3.3 (Bravo CM9) rom which you find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
using it for days now and semms to be very stable. i came from the sandvold rom. in my opinion the cm9 rom is a bit faster than the sandvold rom.
i deleted some apps to fit the rom in data++ hboot. but i think app2sd works fine with this rom
i'm using BCM too for a while now, very stable.
I have had a strange wifi problem (the wifi router on chanel 13 hasn't been seen by phone, the one on chanel 7 without problem) fixed with wifixmanager.
In my opinion, Sense is not needed dead freight.

I only tried Sandvolds Rom until now but maybe Im going to try BCM

Now i have an GPS issue, everything else seems to run without problem, or better, like a charm
I had this GPS issue before, than, after an update, it was gone, now it's back.

Hello!
I have installed the BCM b0.3.4 today. Although it makes a good impression, it seems to drain the battery. No idea what it is about, but the phone is hot and its CPU work with its maximum frequency.
Best regards!

New Sandvold build is the tits, I'm surprised at how far they've come, tried the bcm build as per recommendation of people here but battery died way too fast and wasn't as stable.
I am also on Sandvold. I have it running for 2 days now and haven't come across a single bug until now.
At first it was very slow and laggy, but after 2 hours or so (I really don't know why. 2 hours for everything loading at first boot?) it became all smooth.
The only thing that REALLY REALLY annoys me is that I am stuck with 5 homescreens, when I only need 2 or 3.
ATTENTION!
Sandvold's ROM came with data roaming enabled per default!
If you live close to the border you should check that setting before entering your SIM card PIN.
I've tried them both. Sandvod's version is much better, no bugs for me so far
I've been using Sandvold's rom for a while now. Newest version is excellent. Plus the gallery actually works with it!
Also you can change the battery indicator from this thread. I'm currently using v.4.
Now i'm using Miui-2.1.27 ICS, and it works very well . I like so much Miui customisation

Hello!

hi,
I have Leedroid 3.0.8.2 data ++. Phone (which is my main phone] is stable and Bluetooth works as expected.
What are the benefits, of any, to upgrade to ICS and is there a particular ROM you find sufficiently stable to recommend.
Thanks
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
If you are happy with your current rom then there may be no point in upgrading. Personally I prefer the interface and look / feel of ICS and can deal with the bugs that comes with it.
For desire currently the ICS roms are still a tad unstable this is due to incomplete hardware acceleration. The roms are ok for daily use if you can deal without video camera and quite a few graphical glitches. But the rom is still very usable.
If you are wanting to try an ICS rom, I suggest either sandvolds ICS or BCM.
At the end of the day I suggest taking a nandroid backup of your current rom. and trying out one of the ICS roms for a few hours. If you dont like it simply restore your old rom no harm done.
hope this helps.
If you want a stable rom, stick to what you are using right now or at least Gingerbread. ICS roms are in beta for Desire. No matter how many people here tells you it's all okay as a daily driver, if you can't afford the hassle of random reboots and all those little instability don't use it.
It will be a good weekend project to flash ICS roms just to see how it progresses though.
It's just an improved OS.Better functionality, better battery life and a slew of added features which are listed here.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/01/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-review/
I too would suggest you to stick to your old one.

Given that my phone is modelled for Leedroid Data++ can I flash a new ROM for the weekend.
Is out that simple and straightforward?

Sandvold's ICS is really worth trying in its current state.
You can flash Sandvolt's ICS with no problems (wipe all partitions, install rom 0.4.4.3, install 0.4.4.4.1 update). At it's current state 0.4.4.4.1 it is prety stable. I have it installed from yesterday and i can say that i had no problem. Ok, i have to admit, it is a little slower than a gingerbread stock rom but i think it is very usable.
If sandvolt keeps it like this in ~1month i think we will have an ICS that beats GB.
Anyway i think you need to see it. I recommend installing also thalamus kernel which is very stable.
Regards.
Stability is a binary matter. There is a 1 or there is a 0. There is no 1.5, hence there are no such things as pretty stable or partially stable.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Well, today i have used all of it's battery until now and i had no reboot or crash or anything that seemed like a problem.
I've been running ICS for a ~2 months, it (BCM RC2.2U5) works a treat . I've not missed Sense, and now the camera preview is fixed there isn't much missing.
It also feels faster than GB.
The video mode on the camera crashes the camera app but apart from that everything seems to work.
Overall like savagedonkey, I prefer the look/feel of ICS over GB with Sense (I was on LeeDroid 3.3. something) , however if you want to be sure there aren't any hiccups or problems stick with GB.
And there is always nandroid.
Andy
Have been using Sandvold's ICS ROM for about six weeks now and I can definitely recommend it. For me it's stable enough for daily use, camera preview (for photography) is working in the latest releases and with the latest release (0.4.5 dated 03/29) QR-code scanning is functioning also.
At the moment the only missing functionality (set aside eventual bugs) seems to be the video- and the panoramacamera.
Can't say how it performs compared to other ROM's. Haven't had reason to try others .
I have BCM RC2.2U5, but ineternet (mobile & wifi) response is too bad, very slow
I'm using BCM for over 2months and atm its really close to stable release.
There are some minor bugs, but its worth trying.
Fanboys forget to tell you ICS is much slower in its current state, than LeeDroid.
I use Sandvolds ICS atm, because I like the looks. It's not near stable.

Hi,
i come from Sandvolds ICS and I downgraded today to CM7.2, due to its unstableness. I got random BCODs and the browsers were terrible slow. Both crome and the stock browser.
Anyway, I guess the devs working hard on fixing the unstableness. Maybe in the near future im gonna switch back to ICS
It is not possible to simply say "I recommend Sandvolds ICS for you" or "I do not recommend".
First "rule": The rom is NOT stable. If you need your device for business use and need an always 100% stable ROM, then ICS is at the current state under no circumstances the right decision for you.
The ROM is in highly development, be aware of bugs and problems!
3 problems, that recently happend to me, there may be many more:
All contacts seemed to be gone, somehow the google sync was broken. A new login solved it for me.
Black Screen of Death (BSOD) occurs with some kernels: The phone freezes with screen off. Pulling out battery is the only solution.
My SD card could not be mounted on boot (not only missing data, but missing apps from a2sd as well). Reboot fixed it.
But if you have some spare time (following the development thread!) and if you don't complain with regularly ROM updates (including full wipes), you will be impressed, what ICS can make out of your phone!
ICS rocks.
BCM is very stable for me. Everything works fine including my browser and wifi. Only thing I don't like is I cant get mms to work but thats no biggy.

I have not tried Psycho's CM9 Global yet, but I hear it is pretty much fully functional except for the FFC is upside down or something...I have tried their CM10 Global and it is a smooth running rom, just a couple of little bugs they are working out. Mimicry CM9 based rom is almost fully functional...only thing not working that I know for sure is the FFC. Those are the only roms I have tried recently. I have also read that the Viper Sense rom is pretty good too, but it is Sense 4. I prefer the Paranoid Android, but there are some camera issues with it and a couple of other small bugs that don't affect me that much so I never notice them. Other than that I am out of suggestions, I have not tried UKB, MIUI, or any of the other roms that I hear are great roms.

I started with aeroevan's CM9 ROM and it was terribly slow and pretty buggy. I had to reboot it at least once a day. I'm now running Psycho's CM10 Global and it's actually been really great, aside from the nonfunctional FFC, graphic tearing with Chrome, and unstable Bluetooth. Also, the CM10 Global ROM has an issue where after locking the phone it will take 1-2 seconds before allowing you to unlock again.

IC Tazz has been flawless for me. I tried CM9 and CM10 for a few weeks, they work pretty good but are not 100%.
I'm using the new viper Rom. In the past I've always preferred sense tho. Viper is nice. But I prefer my own non sense widgets. So my phone basically looks the same as it did when running cm10. So I'm not sure what the point of staying on viper. Must say battery life is impressive, especially for a sense Rom. Battery life was one reason why I hated sense. But then my phone doesn't really look like sense anyways since I'm using all the same widgets as I did w aosp. *confused*

Haha, I can understand that. I've only been around this one for the past few months. Seriously, thanks for the reminder. I won't forget next time haha
for an ics rom, i gotta say viper sense is the most bug-free. both the ffc camera and rear cameras work fine, and you can shoot fine in 720p HD recording, a problem with many other roms.
this was one of the main problems i had with most CM's and aosp roms was that the stock camera sucked. it didnt even compare to the sense camera and pictures looked they were taken with a basic phone. the viper sense camera was great, maybe even better than stock.
as for bugs, i think the only thing was that taking a picture while recording didnt work, i dont think its supposed to though cuz the inc2 isnt designed for it? also for some reason after a reboot it changed from cdma to gsm, and i think the only way to change that it running the aroma installer again.
I'm no expert or developer but there is quite a few Roms that I have found a pretty stable that could be used as a daily driver with no problem. If you're not rooted I recommend trying it and giving some Roms a test run and seeing what you like before ditching your inc2 its a whole new experience.

Fully functional eh? Both dkstunna and Aerovans cm9 & 10 both run nicely. Just have to make some changes depending on your carrier but youll find the solutions by reading the threads. But don't forget most roms are like that woman in the red light district. She's pretty and fun and can do a lot but there is also something under that skirt that is fully functional.

It's been a pretty solid experience for a few months now.
Condemned Sense's Stock Build Odexed.
Depends on your definition of "fully-functional." For me that means everything that the stock ROM has including FFC, rotating softkeys, 720P camcorder, wifi-tethering, etc. Most of the ROMS listed (excluding stock ROMS) so far have issues with at least one of these things. I don't consider a mentality of "living with minor bugs" consistent with "fully-functional."
Personally my list would include:
- any of the the "standard" Sense 2.1 Gingerbread ROMs like GingerSense, SkyRaider Zeus, etc. (they all use the official 2.65 kernel specifically built for GB)
- Arctic Ascension 2.02 (aka IC Tazz 3.6) - Sense 3.6 using the leaked Chinese v3.x OTA kernel - everything including the stuff I mentioned works on it. It even includes features not even the stock ROM has such as automatic 3G switching when sending and receiving MMS messages.
Try CM 7.2, it was the first rom i flashed. the battery life is extraordinary and it runs fast like hell! only problem is its a bit old fashioned.
I'm currently running ViperSense 1.1, but its just slightly slow because its using a stock kernel
Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me this information. I have been busy but plan to look into these very soon! Much appreciation!
