[Q] bloatware - HTC One V

hello guys i am just about to purchase a htc one v after having a Legend for just over 2 years and i can say i was very pleased with it. The Legend i had rooted unlocked bootloader and put Cm7 on it and it worked very niceley. My uestion to anyone here is when i get the one V i suspect it will have much bloatware on it as i am buying on contract.I do not want to root yet because i will invalidate warranty so my question is can i use the titanium backup exploit method to perm remove certain things apps i dont want or was that just for gingerbread froyo etc. thankyou for reading.

Yes...you can use titanium backup...but even that will need root which voids your warranty

As far as i know there's no "temp root" for the HoV

In ICS ROMs, you can just disable the application that you consider as a bloatware. It is equivalent of TB freeze. It will not free up space but will not run and hog ram and CPU. You can do this without rooting.

Thanks for the quick replies guys i think ill stick with the freeze option for now then untill i am nearing the end of warranty then i can root. Thanks again

Please keep all question telated threads in the Q&A section. Thank You.

What are the chances of the Wildfire S getting rooted and custom roms

So I don't want to take an expensive phone with me travelling, and seeing as you can get this phone for really cheap (on a contract) I thought it be better than nothing. I am coming from a HD2 though (broken) and am slightly concerned about the performance. I have read good things, but I would feel safer if I knew that this might get rooted, be overclockable, new customs roms etc.
So if any dev's that plan to root the wildfire s and build custom rooms please let us know!
There are guys working on the Desire S and Incredible S.....
Once they get those rooted / S-Off etc etc I would imagine that the Wildfire will follow.......
Dont quote me on that though
given that the wildfire was very popular and officially supported by cyanogenmod, i believe the wildfire S will follow the footsteps of its predecessor.
Just be patient and wait for a few months. This phone is still in the process of being rolled out in various parts of the world. Once enough people get hold of this phone, i'm sure there will be a few hackers/developers among them who will try to work on rooting and developing custom roms/kernels for it.
Wildfire S Root
I sure hope that a root for the Wildfire S comes in the following months. I wanna get some over-clocking action my my Wildfire!
I am also waiting to root.
But in my case I am very interested because I need rSAP on it to connect to my car.

I think HTC should do what they done with the Nexus One and what Samsung done with the Nexus S and provide the choice for users to unlock the bootloader through fastboot. Motorola and Sony Ericsson are doing it with the Xoom, Arc etc.
Also: I can't wait for custom roms and such to arrive to the S.

I got a S yesterday , and waiting for someone show me how to root it.

not possible at the moment, need to wait for HTC to release unlock (if any), because they are not locking bootloader anymore, but nobody knows if it will affect released devices also (like wildifre s)
They not lock starts from this moment... You should ask devs from other rooted devices from htc... Dont belive root comes himself...
EDIT: I take wildfire from my friend and take a look on this...

They should, the phone was released this month in the UK.
hi, today played a little bit with the phone from my wife
i tried, but all without luck
-superoneclick 1.9.1
-z4root
and found this on a quick search in google is a german site http://www.nexustalk.de/magazin/artikel/234-htc-wildfire-s-root-anleitung-zum-rooten.html
google translate german to english

Does anything give a temp root?
temp root, unfortunately not
Thats a shame. Guess we gotta wait and see if HTC will unlock the wildfire S :\
Hi there just wanting to ask a quick question is the firmware on a wildfire s the same as the wildfire A3335 which is the Australian model thanks. As i am thinking of debranding it. I have already got it unlocked so that shouldn't be a problem.
Same phone, so same model.
Temporal Root

Hi!!
Yes, you might have temporal root privileges.
You have to use GingerBreak through ADB Shell.
Remember this doesn't allow you to install a Custom Recovery or a Custom Rom as the phone will not actually write nothing, so better don't try.
You may use any ROOT-Application like Titanium Backup till you reboot your device.
I don't know if this method works on all WildFire S.
Remember if you just want to debrand your mobile you may use a GoldCard to flash a Unbraded Stock ROM and get ride of all of that stupid branded screens and applications once and for all (as i did in mine)
Good Luck!!
In China it seems you can buy S-OFF Wildfire S, I guess they do this with XTC-clip and then sell them (still doing some more research). Thinking of buying one for my wife.
Does anybody have a link for nice background info how to make a rooted ROM?
I am experienced in baking my own rooted ROMs for Legend with the kitchen, but I have always had a rooted ROM (like BlaY0 0.8.4 or CM 7.0.3) as a starting point.
Now I guess my best bet is to take a normal RUU image for Wildfire S and to put su etc. on it, but what else would I need?
Is it feasible to, say, mix kernel+drivers etc. from the original ROM with less harware specific parts from BlaY0 or CM and in such a way construct a new ROM?
I read somewhere that from a hardware point of view Legend is closest to Wildfire S? Could somebody confirm this?
TIA!

[Q] HELP: Can i upgrade my HTC Desire Z with 2.3.3 to the latest ICS and sense?

Hi Experts of the forum.
I have a HTC Desire Z with android 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1
Currently I am having some problem with the reloading of the home screen almost everytime i go into a full page app and exit.
It is quite irritating.
I was told that this is caused by Sense.
But anyway i was wondering if it is possible to root the phone now and upgrade to the new ICS version as well as the latest Sense that HTC provides.
As much as i hate the reloading problem that sense is causing, i still like their UI, and their new UI as well, and i hate it that HTC is not going to upgrade it for Desire Z.
Anyone can advise on how to upgrade by root or something.
I can't seem to find a way to root or upgrade.
BTW, i read somewhere after rooting we can also overclock the phone, but is it a good idea to do so, will it cause any problem and will it like kill the battery life very fast?
Please help.
Thanks.
Not at a computer so I don't have the links handy. Check the thread in development on rooting
Only folow the wiki ie don't use visionary and don't simple try the htc hboot unlock.
Once you have the right link to downgrade, root and flash custom recovery you can install lots of roms
Some better than others but you will easily find one better than your stock rom, even if you love the sense ui
You can find many super fast sense roms with many nice extras added.
And yes overclocking is plenty safe so long as you don't attempt something crazy like 2ghz but even if you did
The chance of perment damange is low. As far as battery life many custom roms may increase your battery life
Over a stock rom even with overclocking. I am a heavy user and tend to get close to 24hrs on most roms between
Charges, and this is with slight overclocking (1-1.5 depending on current rom and such)
Good luck and if you have any issues use the search option first ask question if your still confused

thanks for the advice, but just to check, if i root and change rom, will it delete all my apps and data? is it possible to save all my data and apps data?

Yes, it will. You can easily reinstall the apps, but the problem is the app data. If you are rooted then you can use a tool like Titanium Backup to backup all the app data. But if you are on 2.3.3 and not currently rooted, that won't work for you, since you have to downgrade as part of the rooting process (thereby losing all your app data). It'll be fine going forward once you are rooted, but the problem is with your current data.
For stuff like SMS, there are various backup utilities on the Play Store where you can back those up without requiring root.
How much stuff do you have (in terms of app data) that is going to be a problem if you lost it ?

Thanks for the advice, btw which forum should i start with? any recommendation which rom i should use?
Look up the wiki - google search "downgrade and root htc g2" I'm sure that would be one of the first results, again I'm not by a computer so I don't have a link handy

[Q] Thinking about rooting my one x should i wait for s-off?

Hi,
I am thinking about rooting my one x because it doesn't have hardware or software faults and i don't think I need to send it for warranty. But just incase I will need to in future will I be able to relock it? without htc knowing it when s-off for one x is available.
Thanks

i dont think so
Might be possible, unless there's something on the phone how would HTC know that we've actually used the unlock code apart from it saying unlocked. There might be a way in the future to wipe these stats if there are any.
Like in the Samsung devices there a custom binary which shows how many times you've flashed you can reset this with a jig.
I'm sure we can revert back to original when we get S-OFF but it's whether any other information is recorded somewhere on the phone by using htcdev.
For what's its worth I couldn't wait and used htcdev.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I'd actually be curious myself if it records somewhere that you used the unlock on it. I'd kind of be surprised if it didn't actually. But you can definitely flash back a stock rom and relock it. Whether that'd work if you sent it in for warranty or not, I don't know. I'm sure someone has tried and can verify though.
I think when you sign up with HTCDev and get the unlock key for your device, you're accepting immediately that signing up alone may void your warranty, but they leave the wording loose so it's difficult to actually tell. It's a nice way out of the warranty for them if they don't want to fix something and you've signed up on HTCDev.
Ok thank you very much guys. Im going to root my phone because it doesn't look like s-off for one x is going to come out soon. What stuff do you guys have on rooted one x?ow

Charmeleon rom, Francos kernel as a start.
For root purposes I use:
AdAway to get rid of ads,
Root Explorer to delete system/app bloatware,
Titanium Backup Pro to backup data app very useful for switching roms,
Autostarts to stop applications from auto starting on boot,
Those are my main root applications along with Super User.
Charmeleon rom is excellent with its vast array of tweaks.

How to go back to an stock rom HTC One X

Hi there, I was looking around trying to find the way to get back to a stock rom and I don't seem to find any path for that, so far I have used Samsung Galaxy 2 and Xperia S and they have their own tool to flash a stock rom and go back to default, however I decided to try HTC and it is a pretty nice device I have to say, however things are much difficult to do, I have rooted my phone with no problem thanks to the tutorial I have found here which is really easy to use, on the other hand I was also wondering if I relock the bootloader, do I lose my root access as well as my SU app and all its stuff? It is just a matter of knowledge of course, but i really want to know just because at the moment, when this people, the HTC developers release another update, I'd like to go for it, if you now what I mean :good:. Well basically those are all my questions, I would apreciate any info that you can provide me with. Thanks

Did you make a backup of your stock rom? If you did, you could just restore that through CWM Recovery.

[Q] Root or No?

Hey everyone, just wondering how many of you out there are planning on rooting their HTC One M9 - Adam
I will be but will keep it stock to see what HTC does with updates.
All my phones get the root & ROM trearement at some point.
Or I may just may keep it stock, that will be a first though.
I won't root mine. Like the M8, most apps that I have no need for can be disabled through the app manager. The only benefit of rooting my phone would be to be able to use Titanium Backup, but I've learned to live without it... Since I keep installed apps to a minimum, stock is all I need....
Definitly yes.. I think without root AND s-off you don't really own your device [emoji6] that's just my statement [emoji106]
Any Android phone in my hands will be rooted/s-off and custom rom/kernel with tweaks within the hour of getting it, no hesitation..
It's the sole reason i pick Android over IOS

Thats my idea too, rooted right away last weekend got it on saturday and sunday i got root.
ViperOne is my favorite for a long time (htc sensantion)
I'm on the fence. The only reason I can see right now for rooting, is having multiple user accounts, and battery / performance tweaks.
As for the first I can live without that. The second one, right now I do not believe is possible. It'll only be possible to improve battery by limiting the power of the phone which is a shame.
If we root the device, will it still get software upgrades to the stock (now rooted) rom?
If so, Is there anything that cant be done when rooted that would not allow this to work? (ie, maybe removing a stock app, or disabling an app that the system (non rooted) wont let you disable, having custom recovery)?
Let me know thanks!
Not sure yet. There are updates that will come to fix certain aspects of the phone.
No xposed framework which is one of the main reasons I root.
Also if I unlock the bootloader it will delete all my data, and I'm too lazy to re-install everything on my phone all over again.
hmm. Is the bootloader locked on the "unlocked" version? I already set up my wifes phone last night after a few hours of getting it all setup (the way i like it ) i wouldnt want to have to start all over again

Rooting doesn't improve anything. It allows you to access the system root (ie c:/windows/) which on android is locked away from users.
If you are going to root, it is only really worth it if you plan to s-off (security off) which allows you to run unsigned code, gives better leaway on recovering a borked device and gives read/write access to all partitions on the device.
