Also, the screen is unusually "glossy"
Help!
Did I mess up something or got a fake **** shipped to me?
*sorry for bad quality image, took on a retarded phone, the only other source I have at this moment*

Something similar happened to me. The day I got my phone I was cleaning the display and some of the cleaner leaked between the glass and the panel. It grew in to a big grey blob and started moving from the top of the phone to the bottom. It went completely away overnight. It just happened again a few days ago when I was putting a screen protector on. Same thing, moved from top to bottom and went away overnight. Hope your's does the same.
BTW, from the AT&T logo you're in the wrong forum. I'm guessing the displays act the same though.

interesting, but I did not use any cleaner...
And I actually own the International version, I was pissed off when they shipped me the one with ATT logo but figured its just a damn logo, might as well stick to it..
I am wondering whats with the "glossy" look tho' . Nothing at all like my previous screen..Looking at it from a slightly tilted angle, it looks like those mercury mirrors! -_-

The One XL (AT&T) display is made by Sony. Maybe it's different than the Acer and Sharp in the One X? The Gorilla Glass is laminated to the display and I'd guess that would be the same part regardless of who produced the panel itself. I wonder if yours is just the display part w/o the GG glass overlay? But then what's the moisture "blob" in between? Curious.

I hope it doesn't matter :/
And that is my exact question, I just did some comparison with my shattered screen, the "blob" in the middle is exactly how its suppose to look like, I am guessing it is not firmly attached to lcd?
bleh I might have to visit a local phone repair shop or something.. this sucks .. Another crappy issue is that, the LEDs are way off alignment, a good centimeter off ..
day can't keep getting worse..

Since when are there AT&T branded internationals? :s

It's an AT&T-branded replacement display on a Teg3 One X.

Ah that makes sense lol. I'm so out of it today.

This actually makes me wonder, and as far as I once heard the designs on the at& the and the International one x may seem alike but as far as I am concerned there is a minimal design difference, but don't take my answer for 100% sure, but that's maybe a possibility. Correct me if I'm wrong.

A friend of mine just had his digitizer replaced after he smashed it and has the same issue as you. Looks like it's not bonded to the LCD properly, the screen flexes when pressed. He is sending it back for repair again.

This is why my One X repair is delayed.
I broke my One X screen over a month ago now. It's been at the repair centre for that long. The reason is that the market has been flooded with cheap, hand-made, screens that have this exact problem and they are waiting for proper screens to become available. The official screens are bonded using a machine - very few of these cheap ones are fault free.
Likewise, if you have the digitizer replaced by a 3rd party, the chances are that they will do it by hand, leading to this problem. Be careful where you send your One X for repair if you do not use HTC themselves.

Unusually glossy? Sure there isn't a protection film over it?

I think you're spot on. I'd imagine it would be almost impossible for knock-off screens to ever be produced as well as the originals based on this...
"The 4.7-inch 720p Super LCD 2 display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2, which is the new version that's thinner and stronger. We first saw the Gorilla Glass 2 back at CES 2012, though the glass manufacturer did not reveal then which handsets will be featuring the technology. HTC also told us that the One X features optical lamination, a process through which the screen ends up laminated to the glass, resulting in better viewing angles. We found this to be true, and having the screen so close to the glass makes it appear brighter and more visible under sunlight."

Isnt there any kind of liquid glue we can use to make the screen crack invisible ?

No. If you want a perfect screen replacement, suck it up and pay for the price of an out of warranty repair.

I put on a privacy screen and it looked great, the crack is hidden perfectly. Then I turned on my phone only to find out the image looked awful.
I havent found anyone happy with these 3rd party screen replacements. I am very sad, I love my phone but looking at a horrible crack makes me want to smash it against a wall.
From now on I am putting a heavy duty case on my phones.
I dont want to troll but my SGS2 had plenty of terrible falls including a 7 foot fall against a harsh Walmart parking lot. Not even a scratch. My hox was shattered for nothing

Just had a situation occur that is having me seriously question our build quality...

I was sitting at my desk at work, and I went to get up and go to lunch. I didn't realize my phone was on my lap, but when I got up my phone fell out of my lap, and on to the carpet. The back came off and the battery came out ("big deal", I thought, since every other time I dropped a phone [not often], the battery came out). I get the battery, get the back, and go to grab the phone, when I realized that the front is basically shattered.
The phone didn't fall more than 3 feet onto carpeted floor, and I was just in awe at that. I still am. Fortunately, Sprint is going to replace it because I have insurance, and apparently there is no deductible which is nice. My EVO hasn't given me any problems though and I see about others who seem to and I hope that the refurb unit lasts longer than this one did. I might also be investing in an Otterbox or something.
Here's a pic of the carnage:

I dropped my phone onto the street when I was getting out of my car. It was from about 3-4' high. I bobbled it as a stood up and watched it crash face down to the ground in what appeared to be slow motion. Picked the phone up off the ground and it only had a few scratches on the corners. I thought for sure the screen would be cracked. I peeled off the screen protector when I got home, and not a single scratch on the screen. I don't use a case for the phone.
I guess my point to the story is that it could just be I was lucky, and you got unlucky. After my incident, I feel pretty confident in the HTC build quality.
Forgot to mention; sucks what happened to your phone. Good thing for insurance.

Thanks.
Yeah I dropped mine onto the wood floor at my house from a similar height as what happened today and nothing really happened, so that's why I was shocked. I dropped my Pre probably 4 or 5 times when I had it and nothing at all happened to it. The Pre was a tank for me, which is surprising since pretty much everyone else who had it complained bigtime about the build quality of it.
I'm debating on whether or not I should unroot my phone before I bring it back on Monday. The person at the store didn't even turn the screen on when I brought it in and approved it, but I didn't know if some flak would come of it running an (obviously not stock) rooted ROM when it got wherever it's going).
Or maybe they'll just toss it into the trash.
with the new what insurance is set up they should be able to fix your screen and hand it back to you IF its just the screen damaged
They'll actually just replace the screen for you at a repair center, instead ordering a refurb.

Could also be that the screen is or works like tempered/safety glass. You can take a ball peen hammer to the center of a sheet of safety glass with little to no affect. But take the same hammer and strike the edge of the glass and the sheet will crumble like the Yankees in a playoff game.
If your EVO landed on its side when it fell, that could be the cause. It's happened in my office many times with people's iPhones. I find that my Ghost Armor works well to diffuse the smaller bumps, though mine is covered in a rubberized case 80% of the time as well.
Hopefully you get a good replacement.

Seriously question build quality? You're kidding, right? ANY glass will shatter when dropped, period. This has nothing to do with build quality. Would you prefer it to be plastic and have a million scratches on the screen?
Now if you were to complain about the screen separation issues, THAT would be a build quality issue. But NO phone is perfect.
I've dropped my phone dozens of times, many from 3 ft, others from 5 ft, I do have a black rubber case on it that only says htc on the back that I picked up on launch day. so far its never came apart or scratched or anything happened that would make it less than mint. I'm impressed with it and honestly don't see a way to destroy the thing unless I wanted to

Drop glass from 3 ft onto carpet, and see how often it breaks. I venture to guess it'll almost never break. I have never once broken a phone and now my EVO slides off my lap and it shatters. And I have no right to question the quality of it?
Don't get me wrong I love it and can't wait to get another so I can continue to play with it, but seriously.

The sample size is rather small but you're 1/1 so I'd venture a guess as to yes. Angle of impact seems to be the common denominator here, a flaw in the design there is not. $10 says you don't leave it on your lap and stand up to go to lunch again...but if you do report back here so we can hear about it again.
Its also possible your screen/glass might have had an imperfection in it as well . I have heard of glass windows in cars shattering with just the slightest of impacts . Granted they are rare , far and few between . Every once in a while the process of making the glass screws up causing weak points in its structure . Its possible this might be the case with yours . Glass was already weak from the manufacturing process and the small fall was enough to cause it to shatter .
I've dropped my phone from my lap getting out of my truck on asphalt. Thought for sure the screen was toast but just a few scuff marks around the plastic edge. second time it fell from waste height on concrete and that shattered the screen.
Otterbox offers good protection but I can't get over how HUGE the cases are. I ended up with Pt case. Just something to sheild the edges/corners a little better.
Thats why I'm calling bs the phone had to hit the desk or something you could slam the phone on carpet and not break the glass by the way if your at your desk why is the phone in your lap mobile porn or something

Cracked my screen. What to do now?

Hi folks.
Dropped my phone yesterday and completely shattered the screen. Phone still works fine so I'm sure it's just the glass that's broke.

Going to try fix it myself but was wondering if any members have had success in repairing a cracked screen.
What I want to know is is it possible to just buy and replace the glass? It does look possible going by some of the youtube tutorials but others say the only way to get a proper fix is to buy both the glass and digitizer. Thing is though I'm looking at a bill of a little over £10 for the glass or about £130 (cheapest I've seen) for both.
Anyone had success repairing only the glass and was the screen just as responsive? I've also heard it's very hard to get it perfect with air bubbles becoming an issue. Every single mobile repair shop have quoted me for both as they won't even attempt just replacing the glass so I guess it must be hard.
PS. I notice from searching that these threads can lead to a "gorilla glass shouldn't break" discussion. Really hope it can be avoided here as it usually ends up with the original question not getting answered. I do my best to look after my phone but don't like covers bulking up my phone so I take the chance. I have a screen protector on and that's it. As much as I try to be careful with my phone I have dropped it on a few occasions and it's been fine but I guess my luck ran out this time. The phone fell flat on it's screen onto mono block and I just knew this time it wasn't going to be ok when I picked it up
Thanks
Mate, if you try to only replace the glass, you have to get rid of old glue and use new glue for the new glass, will be hard, but if you find a solution for this I might be interested too.
I have a small crack on the top corner of screen which does not come over the screen or cam, but I also would want to change my phones bezel to dark grey. It's so freaking cool! :d

I had a case of broken glass, watched a lot of videos thinking about doing it myself but in the end decided to just let someone else do it. About screen responsiveness, I have a personal feeling that it's more responsive than before, maybe there is less glue (or none at all now) than before so the glass is closer to a screen. There are no air bubbles so maybe no glue Personally I think it would be enough to put glue on the sides of screen just to create a seal against dirt getting between glass and display, it would also be easier in case of another broken glass
Here in Poland it cost me 75$ (UPS 2 way + glass + repair) and took 4 days total. I'm quite happy with the results

Try dx.com
They generally sell spare parts of everything quite cheap. They do deliver free aswell (international) but waiting period could be 10 - 20 days.

Happened to me too.
I took it to the Samsung Repair Center and they did the assessment and told me that I could take the phone and that they'd call when they had the glass for the repair. 3 days later they called, I took the the phone there, 40 minutes later it was brand new.
They charged $80 for the service.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like not many have actually done this.
Think I'm going to give separating the glass a chance. If I mess up the digitizer I can always just order another one anyway
I've had a single line crack right across the screen for a couple of months now. Phone still works like there is no crack, and the cost of a repair (plus the chance of a botched repair) is too high to make me want to do it. Got a Galaxy Note 8 to replace it - but then its sim slot went faulty, so back to the Note 2 while that gets fixed under warranty.
My honest advice is to let a pro repair your screen. On my previous phone I tried to replace the glass. Then I tried to replace glass and didgitiser. I warched the tutorials. Bought all the right tools. In the end my phone was "lost" so I got a new one on my insurance.
Save your self time money and stress. Send it to a pro.

It ain't worth just replacing the glass, way too footery and likely to get dust/fingerprints between the display and the digitiser, if you can even get it separated without damaging the display.... I cracked the glass on mine, a Samsung service centre in the UK called Regenersis tried to rip me off and quoted for a new display + glass and a new main logic board, all to the tune of £300! There's absolutely nothing wrong with the main board and the phone works perfectly, they were just trying to make a quick buck or didn't want to do the work, figuring I was some n00b and would just say go-ahead.....
Wow for £300 you can buy another one and sell the cracked screen one on eBay
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
My Note 2 also met an unfortunate fate of glass-floor impact. I went down the cheap route after a lot of research and paid £30 for a glass, tools and 2M tape kit. It did the job, but I find that after a day or two, especially in this heatwave we're having at present in the UK the screen does start to lift a bit and the responsiveness of the screen does drop considerably. Pressing the screen down brings it back to normal however.
Also the cheap route brings about what looks like moisture under the screen. (attached) It's actually just where the glass is touching the digitiser, and only occurs in the middle of the screen. I assume this is only because the repair tape is on the outside of the digitiser so has some wiggle room. It'd probably not exist, or lift, if a LOCA glue was used or an all over repair adhesive was applied to the entire glass. Downside to both of these is future repairs are just as tricky as the initial repair, with lots of headgun/hairdryer use. Also with the adhesive I heard that it's very hard to get on without imperfections. I guess it depends on how well you can repair tech and/or how flush with cash you are at the time.

Help! Bubbles under screen?

Hey guys.
Today I noticed I have these 4 really tiny bubbles under my screen on the bottom. I thought it was the screen protector, but I took it off and they are still there! They look like 4 miniscule dots. I can't really take a pic with my crappy phone camera but I'll try with a good camera.
Should I file a warranty claim with samsung? I think my retailer return period is up. It has been over a month since I bought it.

Hm, pretty sure these aren't dead pixels on mine though because I can see it clearly when the screen is off. When the screen is on, there is a little bit of distortion where they are. Pretty sure its small air bubbles or dust under the screen. Don't even know how that happened.
The bubbles nay be encapsuled in the glass of the touchscreen or lcd, or the note has a gapless screen, touchscreen glued on the tft, with bubbles in the glue. Definitely a warranty case.
I noticed the same bubbles. It doesnt bother me and I need my tablet for studying so I cant wait for a replacement. I might return it of we get a knpx 0x0 root once the holidays start.

Samsung cannot deny you warranty on a problem like this if you tripped the KNOX fuse. Refund from a retailer? Depends if they check, which I doubt
I went on a trip last week and they started showing up for me as well spanning from above the home button to beyond the back button. I was gonna sent it back as soon as I got back in Belgium, but now that I see this thread it has got me worried. I don't want to be replacing the tablet every half year if this is a recurring/common problem. Might just sell it when I get the replacement.
Samsung is just giving me more and more reasons to stay away from their products...
Honestly I'm very dissapointed with this tablet so far. Don't get me wrong, for those who want to use it as is you're probably very happy with it, but I personally customise the **** out of my devices and experiment a lot. My S1, Note1, Oppo Find5 have seen a ****load of roms and were fun to play with. I've always liked samsung because they usually have the best spects out there. But lately they have become expensive and hostile towards the community.
I've been talking to the wacom guys last week, and been asking them about their tech in the samsung note line. The reason you don't have configurable settings for your pen and stuff like that (offset, sensitivity, etc) is because samsung won't allow them to have a custom app in there. The stuff get licenced out and from there on samsung has full control.
At this point I'm actually considering just getting a 1+ One and a Microsoft Surface Pro 3, maybe have some Android dual boot action going on...

Is there any way to remove this bubble under the glass myself?
I may have problem with warraty, also don't want to send the tablet back :/

I do not know the technical details behind these bubbly issues but - beeing an engineer, I am a lasy dude - after some days my bubbles have just disappeared.

This sucks
I have now sent my tablet in twice for this issue. Repair is normally fast but it sucks being without my tablet. I'm hoping they will actually replace it this time around.
Same problem with my tab pro 8.4, it started off as one but keeps spreading (it is much worse now then in this picture I took a week ago), I also thought it was screen protector but I removed it and they are still present, I handled this tablet with extreme care so this is bs, will try to return it, I really don't want to RMA it..

I bought mine off amazon in July 2014 so its been about 3 months, It has always been used with the Official Samsung Book case, and the military shield screen protector from armorsuit.
This tablet never had any issues at all so I am furious a great tablet is going to waste over a defect like this (what did they use cheap glue?), and once samsung repair service mucks with it I doubt it will ever be right again....in my opinion all these tablet lines should be recalled as these cases all seem related bubbles start above the home button, clearly a trend here.
My P605 has this issue as well since three months ago. Annoying.
What color was every ones tab that this happened to, I can't help but notice all the black ones are no longer being sold by amazon or newegg ..etc, I asked samsung if they were already discontinued but they said its still a new tablet, But I don't get why they are out of stock everywhere?
maybe the black bezel ones have some glue defect or lcd defect
Could you tell whether these are bubbles of air in a fluid film, or lil' drops of liquid surrounded by air?
Under the colored rim of the screen there should be some foam tape, and I wonder whether the gap between touchscreen and tft is filled with something to improve contrast and clarity and to keep out moistness(will produce rainbow effects in narrow gaps, or both are directly glued together over the whole space.
Either way, the bubbles should come from pressure on the touchscreen while hitting the hardware buttons. Will squeeze out glue from the foam tape, or whatever they use, or pump air from the out- to the inside.

[Q] Screen Replacement

Just got this phone 3 days ago, cat jumped up on the desk I had my phone on, directly onto the phone, and then jumped down, causing the phone to drop onto the carpet. The screen is cracked/shattered. Does anyone yet know how to replace the screen/where I can buy a replacement?
I am in the USA, so nobody around here will service it until at least May 18th when it is released in here...
Please help...I'm devastated....
that's unlucky
I'm going to receive this phone very soon, what you report isn't really good news,
isn't this phone supposed to be gorilla glass 3? and as a matter of fact resist a simple drop on carpet? very surprising....

I don't have this phone right now but i have seen many asus users complaining about the screen...Their are many complaints regarding broken screen and Asus's fragile screen regardless of having gorilla glass 3
The shattered is around the very edge. I'm not quite sure if the shatter is due to the cat jumping on it and possibly a claw going into the screen, or if it was a result of the fall. Not sure. But yeah, supposedly GG3, but I'm not quite sure...

have you tried ebay for screen replacement?
this is what i did with a previous phone I broke, unfortunately the replacement screen had a defect,
but with a maintenance/disassembly guide, this is probably what i would try..

bad news, for me it starts to make a lot of inconvenients for this phone:
fragile screen (?)
very big size (almost phablet)
poor camera quality (software issue?)
I'm also quite surprised there isn't more interest from dev given its X86 CPU, because this was one of the main reason I got it first (non-ARM device and possibilities for other OS's (FirefoxOS, UbuntuTouch)),
now I realise the only thing that could make me keeping it is dual sim...

Most likely it is the fall. Regardless of having GG3 they still easily shatter by falling. Watch videos of dropping Samsung S1 to S6.. S6 did shattered even having GG4 equipped. I feel sorry on what happened on your new phone.. Im hoping you can get this serviced right away for replacement.
Wow, that's unlucky!
I dropped mine for the first time this weekend, onto a tiled patio floor from about waist height and it didn't break. I do have a cheap silicon cover on it though so that has probably paid for itself ten times over already.
Did you get the screen fixed? I dropped mine a couple of days back and the screen just shattered into pieces.:crying: I can still operate the touch screen, so I hope the digitizer and the LCD are still fine. I'm trying to figure out a way to get it fixed. I guess sending it to Asus Service center is the only option right now. I was wondering how much they will charge me for that. I'm in the US btw.
I have dropped mine 4 times , no damage so far. I have Asus' bumper case on it though .

The big size isn't a problem.Ergonomics is well,it stays well in hands.I wear quite skinny jeans and i can put it in pockets easily.Instead the fragile screen and the camera quality are very big problems :/
Even gorilla glass can crack from small height falls if the angle is right (or should i say wrong)..
Zenfone 2 does not have a magnesium alloy mid housing / mid frame like nexus 5 , lg g3 etc. The only "metal" thing inside is the LCD pannel cover, everything else is just cheap plastic. And we all know that plastic bends and glass shatters.
Gorilla glass 3 is strengthened and scratch-resistant, but it is by no means shatter-proof. If you drop a phone and you are unlucky with the angle of impact as it hits the ground then it will probably crack the glass. Bigger screens increase the likelihood of shattering. Gorilla glass 4 is supposed to give more shatter protection, but drop tests seem to suggest it still is not that effective.
Hi, I know this is kind of an old thread, but I don't want to make a new thread to ask a simple question about your phone. After you cracked it, was the touchscreen still responding or did it have problems like the OnePlus One and the LG G3 where the screen stopped responding? I'm considering getting this phone but I would rather know first.

Hi smartgid, i have shattered my screen too, have spare one standing, but for now my phone works great. No problems with responsiveness.
Pics below:
My daughter shattered her screen (zenfone 5 though, not 2) and it still responds as normal.

Tempered Glass screen protector(s)

Hi all,
Starting this thread to see which tempered glass protector is best for the u11 plus.
The phone apparently, from what I’ve read, has a flat front display which should make it easier to find good protection.
I have mine preordered with HTC in the UK and am patiently awaiting delivery for me to be able to test some I bought from Amazon.
Please feel free to add any of your own experiences and opinions.
Thanks all!

Ive pre ordered the phone but already brought a screen protector from ebay, as its a flat front with no finger reader it looks pretty simple. Once I get the phone I will post some pics but only cost £3 so cant moan if it not perfect.
Mine came with a tempered glass. It seems official from HTC. Haven't placed it yet though so I wouldn't know about quality.

The one i got off ebay was crap, it just fills the screen itself rather than all the little bezels.
Got one from Brotec, it's crap, too small and it's peeling at the top, bought another brand from amazon.
Bought the below linked one and it's pretty much perfect for me.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07799J3ZH?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd
Full screen coverage and full adhesive too! I'm definitely impressed.

I bought this too, wouldn't stick, acted like it was flat and the screen was curved. It's in the bin now awaiting a replacement...
got this one and was a load of crap, fine for a day then started peeling on each edge

Got another one on order so will come back when i get it.
You might have been unlucky I guess or I was lucky lol.

Another 1 not to buy, fits really well, sticks well but the glass part as no sticky bits which means there is a tiny gap between glass and protector which makes a oily like bubble in the the middle of the screen

I bought the same but I have the same problem, edges are white as if the screen is curved.
I asked the company to give me the other screen protector they have but it`s even worst: it doesn`t even cover the panel and it`s still white on the edges.

What`s the other one you bought?

best one I have brought so far, considering ive brought 4 is https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pack-HT...8AAOSwfVhaO9Zh
I'm not 100% happy with it but its staying on. I had to give it about 3/4 days for the middle to bed down properly but not it has its not too bad at all.

Thanks for the reply but the link doesn`t work
Bought this one: https://www.amazon.es/Protector-Oly...8&qid=1515012199&sr=8-2&keywords=htc+u11+plus
It's much better than Brotec, but it's not perfect, can see the residue from the glue on the corners.
Thinking in buying this one from ultimateshield: https://www.ultimateshield.co.uk/co.../htc-u11-plus-tempered-glass-screen-protector
It sucks so much trying to find a decent screen protector that works with a case! I tried the beyeah one and it didn't work with my case, the edges lifted. Tried the more cut out version just to find out that it doesn't even cover the whole screen horizontally wtf? I'm just thinking about giving up

Yes same situation here. Tried both of Beyeah screen protector but they are really bad, one is too big and the other is too small.
I don`t know why is so difficult to cut the screen protector correctly, it should be easy
the best one I found is this one : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pack-H...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
its pretty much full coverage with slight gaps for a case, its stayed stuck down for nearly a week now! The main downside is there's sometimes a gap in the middle as it doesn't have sticky stuff on the glass itself. this displays as a oily like tiny part but it hardly noticeable, only really see it in certain light conditions. The longer I've had it on the better its got so not really an issue for me.
Ugh, this is a pain to find a decent screen protector for the device. I'm considering Ultimate Shield Tempered Glass Screen Protector, however that ADDS big bezels onto the side bezels of the phone; as seen in videos of Ultimate Shield Screen Protectors. There is a good one by Olixar but that is for Pre-Order only, and waiting for it to come out but have been waiting for a while. Any suggestions anyone?

I bought this same one on the day you posted this and I've had no issues with it. Is a good fit and hasn't caused any issues with my case.
Originally bought that terrible beyeah one that didn't even fit the screen and that went back for an immediate refund.

Just ordered this one, lets see how it functions.
As for the list "not to buy" https://www.belsimpel.nl/accessoire-detail/mobilize-safety-glass-screenprotector-htc-u11-plus
Its from a dutch company. The screen protector is WAAY to small for the screen.
