Personally, I prefer the beats audio mod. I think it sounds better, especially with the other enhancements than can be enabled in the walkman player. Though you do need a good set of headphones to tell the difference.......

Is there a reason why non-sense roms have such tinny sound from the speaker?
When I run ARHD and Sense 4 roms the sound is so much better sounding and also a bit louder.
If I flash a stock ICS or Jellytime rom the sound is much tinnier sounding and pretty quiet. The difference is very noticable, even to my wife who cares little for roms!!
Was not sure if this was a driver issue with stock ICS/JT roms lacking the proper driver. Does Sense have something that improves the speaker sound that aosp does not?
Thanks.

Use Volume+ from the market
Yes, sense is built for our phones. Thus as you said it has the proper drivers, while aosp roms do not. They are hacks and work arounds that make aosp even have sound on our devices...sense also has srs surround software while aosp does not

I'm having the same issue as the OP, sound quality is horrible on my Inspire 4G using any JB, CM10 or aosp rom, but back on any Sense rom the sound and music sound perfect.
Is there a way to use the Sense sound drivers and srs libraries on JB roms even through a hack? (specially the music player, it was awesome)

You could try AwesomeBeats somewhere on XDA. It mods DSP Manager to use Beats libraries. It actually hasn't impressed me, but others have liked it.
EDIT: oh, and maybe try inspiremod.
EDIT 2: got beat on inspiremod.

Did you flash the inspire mod for your respective rom?
Also the answer to your last question is no. Reason is because htc sense is basically an operating system compatible with android(not vice-versa), but without sense then no sense application can function because the "sense os"(calling it that for simplicity) is not present.

Using PACman v15.0 with 4.2 gapps (tried v16.1 but kept crashing my 4.2 camera and goggle search) and I don't know if it includes the inspire 4g fix, at least is not on their release notes. Can I install a separate Inspire 4G fix (from another rom)?

I'm not sure. I know it depends on each rom. Ask in the rom development thread of your respective rom, as the developer and other people there should know.
Also don't just ask. Tell the problem, and then ask if you can flash the inspire mod from(just for example --> aospx inspire mod) and it resolve your issue. If you just ask you will get flamed, and just wouldn't get an answer.

Just copied from the pacman thread... Although to me it still looks like the inspiremod is your best bet because that other fix looks like it fixes audio when your audio happens to be absent...
Just wondering why not try aospx? I know it's ics but it is much more mature than any jellybean rom?

Before Pacman I was using Sabsa Prime 8.5 which is ICS 4.0.4, I still even have a backup of the rom on my SD card, but after using Pacman (which is basically CM10 with extra tweaks and settings) I don't think I can go back to any ICS rom, JB is really a big step forward in customization and usage. The only things I miss from ICS are some HTC apps and music player.
As far as a music player I advise zplayer...very well polished

Is anyone actually getting decent quality sound on any of the Jellybean roms, comparable to a stock GB/Sense rom (which to me has the best sound)?
Hey XDA, new member here trying to get past the 10 post limit so I can dive into the Android Development Forum. I've always trusted XDA's members for the best for my EVO, have had it for 2 years and have experimented with quite a few ROM/kernel/mod combinations, and I'm just starting to post. My question is, what has been the best sound setup you have come across with the EVO, and why, how, etc.
I've tried maaany things, but I seem to find the best sound quality in Sense ROMs with DSP Manager, no Beats or ACID sound mods. Just throw in PlayerPro with DSP pack and it feels like your a sound engineer at a Rush concert. Can anyone 1up that?
Cheers.
Bumping, 'cause c'mon.

you are really playin the game of personal opinions here. i have to agree with you dsp manger with a eq built in to the player is a good way to go. I currently use winamp pro with dsp but on cm7.2 and it sounds real solid. I have a galaxy nexus i actually use dsp and aosp with but i havent quite dedicated it to music as much since its only 16 in comparison to the 32 gb i have in my evo.

Ok, I'll bite!
Tried quite a few sound mods - my favorite combo is:
AC!D Audio Engine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002367&highlight=acid
then flashing this
Megabass Audio Booster: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074977
On CM7 base roms it adds a modified DSP EQ
On CM9/CM10 roms it adds a modified Beats DSP EQ
With the AC!D engine as a base, I found nothing that sounds better!
So you're recommending the cm9 base?

Why don't you try Some good Music Players.I'll Suggest Poweramp or Neutron Music Player.
Poweramp Music Player: Good Balance between intuitive ui and good sq.
Neutron Music Player : Arguably without eq has better sound quality than
poweramp at the expense of ui (below average actually)
Hope this helps
I have my rom buid with dsp and enhanced with beats manager, also have roco dev beats aswell, tweeked it a little here and there and sounds great.

Well..._
For me the sound is quite fine, but if you want it to be louder there are some options...
You could download a 3rd party music player and mess around with the equalizer a bit...
The other thing would be that you install a mod when it comes out for sense 5 or install a custom rom like ARHD 31.0 that has plugins and mods available for sound enhancement.
Hi,
With a ROM like CyanogenMod 11, AOKP... the sound quality with the speakers is pretty good. But with the Stock ROM, the sound quality is poor. How have the same sound quality with a AOSP ROM?
Thank you!
I put Viper 4 android on it and it sounds great

How does the sound differ on the CM ROM? Just bought this tablet and thinking about returning it.
Coming from a Galaxy Tab 7.7 the sound on this tablet is horrible. It's difficult to hear voices through other sounds, everything is "tinny" and mashed together,
which is a problem as I use the tablet mostly for Youtube and Twitch.

I know what you mean, audio is horrible with stock and is the primary reason i went 3rd party to confirm whether it was sw or hw in order to decide whether to return it; it's just that bad.
happy to report audio is great in mahdi which is cm based. but i think it can be safely confirmed this is some sort of audio layer LG junk.
It's definitely some LG custom audio processing that ruins the sound. It's better in the KitKat official update, tunnely sound is gone but still there's some compression going on that makes many things sound weird and boxy - also some kind of bass enhancement? I can confirm the sound is much more normal in Custom roms.
But now that I installed the stock KitKat update, I'm thinking of trying THIS workaround: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694246
I'll tell you how it goes. I hope not too bad.

lol sorry. It's a mod called "PureAudio 2.0" whick you can flash from a custom recovery and there's a thread in Xda somewhere. I installed it, I noticed some improvent, I didn't install the stupid player the creator tries to shove down your throat (no offense if you're reading this! )

I realised today that PureAudio doesn't do much with LG's audio layer. The lousy stock compression is still there. You can hear what it does mostly when there is some reverb of echo in a sound, like the google now sound right after it registers a voice command/search. It explodes the reverb/echo volume to god. We must find a fix for this without having to install a whole new rom. Someone maybe can detach the CM11 audio thingies and make a flashable zip? Research must happen.
