[Q] Superuser Stuck at Checking Installed Version - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue with Superuser. I have updated to the most recent version that was released on July 1, 2012.
Superuser seems to be working and granting my installed rooted apps SU permissions, but when I go to the Superuser app and click on "Loading su binary version" tap to check for updates, it downloads the manifest and says okay, then parsing manifest and says okay, then says the version is 3.1.
The next line says Checking installed version =
Then it just sits there and doesn't go further, says working.... at the bottom.
Is there anything to worry about since the programs that need SU access are being granted that access successfully? Any ideas how to fix this issue or why it is happening? Thanks.

Force SU to close. It should work fine the next time you run it.

Thanks this worked. But when it attempts to gain root access it says failed?

Give SU permissions to gain root access.

Thanks,
It has SU permissions to gain root access, says it's allowed. When I click su Binary Updater now it it unpacks sutools, downloads new binary, gains root access and then remounting /system as rw fails.

Thanks for all your help.
I actually ended up doing a factory reset, clean wipe and reinstalled the ROM I was running. Then I was able to get Superuser to work properly and I was able to update the binaries. Thanks.

How to regain root?

I updated to 4.0.4 and now I no longer have root access. How do I get it back? Do I just do the root process over in the toolkit I originally rooted with?

i followed exactly and its still not working
nm finally got it I guess
My guess is that su.zip only has the binary, and it's missing superuser.apk
After flashing this zip, you have su, but only in the shell/cli. Superuser.apk is what allows GUI apps to use su permissions.

The Superuser.apk probably isn't the problem. It's more of a firewall. The apk let's you restrict access to certain apps, and grant permission to others.
To have root you need su, busybox, and the correct permission settings. Ergo, if you lost root, you probably either lost su, busybox, or your permissions have changed...

[Q] Improperly rooted

I'm kind of new to Android, but I have decent computing experience. My problem is that I recently rooted my SPH-L710 (stock rom) and when I ran Busybox I received the error message "There was a problem opening a shell with root access. This is either being caused by superuser/supersu or by a device that is improperly rooted. Try removing the superuser/supersu permissions, uninstalling this app," etc etc.
I have attempted various methods using things like root explorer and terminal emulator to remove/ change the permissions so I might delete the su file, to no avail as the phone isn't properly rooted. One thread on here mentioned that formatting the sd card - I assume it meant the phone itself - would do the trick. After that, I would of course have to flash a rom, correct? Thanks for your time.
I would do the rooting process over again, with a new download of all files.
Do you have cwm or another custom recovery working?

I'm running CWM. I've successfully rooted a few times before, but this last time it didn't work. I unrooted and then rooted again three times and even re-downloaded all the files (cwm, odin, rom) but I can't seem to fix this. I'll attempt it again and hopefully it'll take this time.
Fantastic! I flashed the su binary zip, rebooted and superuser was already to go and phone is now properly rooted. Thanks very much! :good:
Thank you!

FL26 Rooted but Not

So I've gotten my SPH-D710VMUB.FL26 rooted but not, Busybox says it's rooted, root checker says it's rooted, superuser is installed with binary, but superuser denies everything & changing the settings doesn't help ? Anybody know what I'm doing wrong ?

I have the very same SPH-D710VMUB.FL26 but I haven't been able to root it. I have used a couple methods, but all failed. Can I ask you what method did you use? Mine is a VirginMobile model. I'd appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks...
How did you install the rom? I've been using one clicks from RWilcos repository with no issues.
PC Odin the one click of your choice and after the green pass light should be good. Maybe redownload and reinstall?

[Q] Can't open SuperSu

I'm currently running rbox's updated 51.1.4.0_user_514006420 ROM. I can still grant superuser access to apps that request it, and apps that require su function properly, but I can't open the SuperSu app itself, it just crashes. When I try to open it from the KFTV launcher, the screen blinks and it returns to the applications menu. If I try to open SuperSu from XBMC, it causes XBMC to crash as well.

+1. Me too.
mine has no option to launch. is that what you mean?
it seems to work fine when apps request root but cannot be opened itself.
a bit annoying.

I think it has to do with the way I'm installing it. In theory if you were to delete the SuperSu.apk from /system/app and sideload the apk yourself, it might work better. And if you horribly break things, you can always just reinstall the prerooted rom to get it back.

I deleted it and sideloaded it back. Same behavior. Just want to get into its settings. I used the latest PlayStore version APK.
Yeah, same here. I ended up installing Clockworkmod's Superuser and uninstalling SuperSU. All I needed was the ability to disable notifications on a per app basis.

Direct download from CWM website
You'll have to re-approve superuser requests since it's a different app. I believe this is the same superuser app that comes with Cyanogenmod

From what I read the supersu is always the best one to choose. Certainly with phones.
I just dont know why we cant launch the app as normal to adjust settings.
Can you launch yours? Can anyone?

I don't know about "always the best". It's all the same crap really. CM ships with Superuser and it seems to work fine for everyone using that.
I can't launch it either.

I also had the same issues. However, I was able to fix it by deleting "/system/app/SuperSu.apk" and then side-loading an older version of SuperSu (2.01). So, it looks as if the issue may be with compatibility with more recent versions.

same story here + can not erase "Supersu.apk"
"rm failed for /system/app/Superuser.apk, Read-only file system"
I am on pre-rooted 51.1.4.0_user_514006420
opened towelroot again, clicked "make it rain" it tells me "device is not supported" (since pre-rooted rom ?)
getting confused here

Flashback?

I think I need to do a Flashback on my Tablet so I can truly root it. I've tried a few ways to root it and all have failed. SuperUser won't open at all. Tried to Towelroot, even tried Stump Root and Stump says the device is already rooted, but I know it's not...
Just noticed I posted this in the wrong forum.

Ok was able to run the SU Zip through CWM and had it rebooted after it was completed. Once it was on. I looked around on the Tablet and SU isn't installed. Running Root Checker Pro and it says the Devices appears to be running very Slow... Been on this screen for a few mins already.
Edit: Went back into CWM and Re-Booted... When I clicked on it a new page loaded and had an option to Fix Root... Choose it and Re-booted.
Downloaded SU from Google Play and it worked now... HUGE THANKS....
Well Crap... Says it's rooted. Xmod is getting Permission from Super User.. Mod installed in the Game... launch from xMod and the Game Crashes.
Ok opened SU and it triggered KNOX... Clicked to let SU to try and disable KNOX.... Been on that Screen for 5min so far...I also get a Security Notice Stating Unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked.
..........................................................................
Unistalled SU and Restalled it. Let SU try and Fix KNOX again... Fixed it in just a Few Seconds.
Wroking 100% Now. The last issue was with XMod not the root.
BIG THANKS
