I think I need to do a Flashback on my Tablet so I can truly root it. I've tried a few ways to root it and all have failed. SuperUser won't open at all. Tried to Towelroot, even tried Stump Root and Stump says the device is already rooted, but I know it's not...
Just noticed I posted this in the wrong forum.

Got CWM into come up, but can't find the SU Zip file... So I just did the reboot from CWM... Now all it does is run a bit slower. SU trys to open, but stats Binary issues. Nothing changed, but slower device now.

When I got CWM opened I did a System wipe factory reset.
Then tried to use towelroot again... Didn't work...
Every link I found to SU was to the google play store... not a Zip folder...

Ok was able to run the SU Zip through CWM and had it rebooted after it was completed. Once it was on. I looked around on the Tablet and SU isn't installed. Running Root Checker Pro and it says the Devices appears to be running very Slow... Been on this screen for a few mins already.
Edit: Went back into CWM and Re-Booted... When I clicked on it a new page loaded and had an option to Fix Root... Choose it and Re-booted.
Downloaded SU from Google Play and it worked now... HUGE THANKS....
Well Crap... Says it's rooted. Xmod is getting Permission from Super User.. Mod installed in the Game... launch from xMod and the Game Crashes.
Ok opened SU and it triggered KNOX... Clicked to let SU to try and disable KNOX.... Been on that Screen for 5min so far...I also get a Security Notice Stating Unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked.
..........................................................................
Unistalled SU and Restalled it. Let SU try and Fix KNOX again... Fixed it in just a Few Seconds.
Wroking 100% Now. The last issue was with XMod not the root.
BIG THANKS

I tried to root my phone using a guide on youtube. My superuser installed but is not working. If i try to install root another way will I end up bricking my phone? When I click Superuser, it says it is outdated, tries to update, but it says it can't.

If you have cwm or twrp installed/flashed right now then download this zip file
and flash it and you will be rooted: http://batakang.com/ftp/SGH-M919/ROOT_M919UVUAMDL.zip
After this is flashed reboot the phone.

rooting
I have an sgh-m919 T-Mobile galaxy s4
I rooted using CF-auto-root
It was very easy, and I had no issues with it.
Use the search bar to find it on this forum.
Its fast, free, easy, and it works.
Youtube can be useful as a tool, but use it for only part of your research, don't follow everything you see. I mean obviously it worked, but obviously, its also outdated.
Factory Reset and try again, this time use CF-auto-root
Can not for the life of me get this too boot into CWM.
I have used CF auto root and confirmed I have root access, I have deleted the recovery file in system/etc and no matter what I do, CWM just won't boot, it just keeps booting into android recovery. I even tried taking the battery out as soon as CWM is finished to prevent a boot into the os and then trying to boot into it, still nada.
Is there something I am missing?
Are you already rooted or are you trying to install CWM first and then root?

Sorry just re-read lol. Why don't you use TWRP? Personally I like that recovery better. Since you're already rooted just install goomanager and install it through there. Or you could also install CWM through rom manager.

Already rooted, I read a guide that says delete install.recovery.sh, which I thought I did but it is not actually deleting, says it is but just does not disappear? wtf
EDIT: just seen your edit, I used clockwork before on my DHD, that is why i chose this. Will try it via ROM manager, if all fails I shall try your recovery choice, TY.
Ok this is weird, root checker confirms I have root, I can grant things root access (rom manager, goomanager) but they always fail when setting the permissions, also can't delete that file in system/etc...so my device is like half rooted or something? Any ideas?

install.recovery.sh installed reflashes the recovery system to the android default, I am trying to flash to clockwordmod but it just keeps booting into android recovery no matter what i do, root checker confirms i am rooted.
I am just stumped on what to do....i can't get any custom recovery on this.
Goomanager says it can not find one for my phone and rom manager says the s4 is not even supported, all apps are up to date. what gives?

Not 100 % sure but I think if you've upgraded to 4.3 and rooted again with cf autoroot you have to then update su from playstore to get root back. I think it downloads the update which you flash through recovery and that's what it's asking you. As i said I'm not 100% Dr ketan's guides are always the best answer

When you want to root you can use CF to root.
When boot into android you need to update SuperSU first.
Then open SuperSU app and update. When app is asking you yo disable KNOX do it. Then it will work
And to root you need this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933542

Nice
Here's a solution if you are as unfortunate as I am with the 4.3 and keep losing root.
Install vroot from market.
Open it and run root.
Repeat 2x.
Reboot.
Go to market and install SuperSu apk
Got to Chainfire site and download SuperSU-v1.89.zip
Reboot in recovery and flash the zip you downloaded. (for my piece of mind, I flashed TWICE).
Reboot. You should now have root.
If not, repeat process.
NOTE - There are many ways to root, but it seems, this is the only one that has kept my root privileges and no need of PC.
Hope this helps
explains how it works in more detail the recovery will not let me put the zip SuperSU I have the factory recovery

Is this your first time rooting? If so, you need a custom recovery first. Either TWP (latest version) or CWM (latest). To install those, you need Odin and must use PC so it can push recovery into phone
I'm curious why you use vroot (which roots your phone) and also flash root? Why not run vroot, download su, open stand allow it to update binaries? I used vroot from my pc, but I imagine the app works the same. In a side not installing a recovery and rooting with just the app should not trip knox, mine didn't

I've tried vroot on its own. I've tried to just flash SuperSU. I've also tried to use vroot plus updating binaries on supersu. Kept losing root. LoL. This seems to hold it.

I thought that i open a thread about how to root the new KitKat b506 rom. If anyone had a successfull rooting, post it here. (Without custom recovery)

VRoot 1.7.6.5833 rooted my Kitkat. Stock recovery.
The only catch is, it installed a Chinese version of Supersu. In old Vroot, I could put an English Superuser in the System partition to replace it. But since the previous version, I couldn't do it. So now I have to put up with a partial English and Chinese allow-dialog. No big deal.

Just a quick question if you don't mind?
Does the SuperSU app work properly, without FC when you open the app?
The reason I'm asking is that the toast message of SuperSU is really long ("SuperSU has granted blah blah blah blah blah" or something like that), and it annoys me! Whereas with Superuser, the Toast message is short and sweet (Superuser has been granted").
EDIT: Never mind, I see the latest SuperSu app on the play store is working perfectly, and I've now uninstalled Superuser.
So, I'd REALLY like to turn that toast message off, and I don't want to keep getting the popup saying that the su binary needs to be updated with Superuser.

Why are you so obsessed with rooting WITHOUT custom recovery? You can root with TWRP and revert back to stock recovery. What's the problem?
For B506 root use this via twrp recovery :https://www.dropbox.com/s/nyfd8hd4wj3o842/superuser.zip

superuser.zip is not needed. TWRP will fix root itself at first reboot from recovery. After boot you find a SuperUserInstaller in your applist.
