[Q] HTC One X loses connection in standby - HTC One X

Hi there,..
I've got two HTC one x models (white and grey) and both are showing the same issue:
Everytime I'm at home and connected to the wifi, the phone loses the connection after a long standby time (>1~2h), which affects that I'm not receiving any kind of notifications (mail etc.). Switching on the display shows for a short moment that there is no connection, no wifi, no "H", no "E" and even no "G", but the gsm is connected with enough connectivity.
The wifi standby is deactivated in the settings, one device uses dhcp, the other doesn't, the wifi is n-standard only and the phones are sleeping directly in front of the hotspot.
The same issue appears even when I'm at work or even everytime out of wifi: The phone stays connected, good signal quality ("H"), and within a longer standby time the network switches off and the phone isn't receiving any mail anymore..
Is there anybody else confirming this issue? Or even with an idea of a solution?

Depends if you're on a rooted phone. If you are, then you should try 'smart sync disabler'. I think it's in the market somewhere, it might also have a slightly different name. But most people have this issue and it's something htc implemented. Maybe some way to save battery.
Hope you manage.
Edit: The exact name is 'htc smartsync'.

Thanks for the quick response,
I will give it a try

Grate solution man,
I tested this fix for both phones and after a week of testing and observing I'll have to say: YES it's fixed
..and even the battery usage stays the same.
Big big big thanks

Wifi dropouts

Is anyone else having sporadic issues with wifi on the One X?
I have two One X's, both running T-mob rom 1.26.110.5.
Wifi will work fine for some hours, then problems start. I usually notice this when returning to the browser - where the progress bar sticks at about 10% and goes no further in downloading a page.
This can happen to either of my One X's. At the same time, my other One X and both of my HTC Desires will continue to operate perfectly on Wifi. This situation can continue for quite some time, and usually I have to cycle the wifi power on the offending phone, whereupon that phone will connect fine again.
The good connection has lasted anywhere between 2 minutes to several hours.
This is intensely frustrating. When I got both phones home new the other day, I set one phone up first, and later in the evening first experienced this wifi problem. Thinking the phone had a fault, I continued and set up the second phone. But that also exhibited the same fault.
Note that all the time this is happening, I have 2 laptops, 3 other phones (included the other One X), and a media streamer, all connecting just fine to my same wifi access point. I doubt the access point is at fault - it has worked for years with the other equipment without issue.
Only the two One X's have intermittent problems connecting to it, and then not both at the same time.
So does anyone else experience this?

Might sound strange, but try rebooting the router. I was having problems with my One X, almost the same issue as you. My HTC Sensation would be fine and my Galaxy S and my laptop also fine, but my One X would have terrible WiFi performance, even tried deleting the wifi settings and re-connecting, and also a factory reset, to no avail. At this point i was ready to take it back as I thought it was faulty.
As a last desperate attempt i rebooted the router (unplugged it for 10 seconds then plugged it back in), and my One X has been perfect ever since. Doesn't quite make sense why one device but not others would have a problem, but worked for me anyway!
OK. Will certainly try that. Ta.
I posted a response to this same query in your other tread regarding streaming in mezzo.

same problem here, the solution until an update, is to take out the pasword from router, leave the wifi network without password

Are you serious? WiFi without password is an absolutely NoGo. I contacted today hTc with this problem. They said they know this problem, many users have reported it. They said to me I should let exchange my phone by my provider. That was not the the answer that I wanted to hear, but I hope they can fix it with a patch and it's not an hardware issue. But if you say deactivating the wifi password can temporaly fix this problem, it should be possible to fix it with an software patch.
I was having wifi problems as well and had lots of other devices which connected just fine. I reset the router and it seems to be going well...
Couldn't try it on another router to see if the router was the problem or it was the phone.
Otherwise love my new one x!!! YAYYY!
Got the same Problem. I just signed the device a fixed ip in the Router config and have no Problem since...
Maybe u should try some like that.
I have noticed WiFi drop outs. Have assigned a static ip, testing to see if it makes a difference

I've noticed an improvement since creating a static ip and setting it up following these instructions

Mod or Die
Mine was showing the loop on connecting, authenticating, obtaining ip. That is a common problem in Android (and nowhere else), but I worked around it by connecting to a different router, then re-connecting to my own router. (In addition to all the other rebooting router, rebooting phone, rebooting refrigerator suggestions). Yup, static IP too. Still would get the problem.
Tracked it thru alogcat and can see the exact point of failure, but still cant fix it.
BUT IT GETS WORSE: My phone stopped scanning. It can't find ANY routers.
If you manually enter a hotspot it shows as not in range.
Mine is getting a little better with static ip and improved wifi performance ticked, but the issue is still here.

UPDATE:
Rebooting the phone didn't help. (It would still not scan for routers)
In Power Settings, there is a checkbox called FAST BOOT.
It came from the factory checked.
I unchecked it and now wifi scanning works again.
I still get the connecting, authenticating, obtaining IP Loop, on some routers. Rebooting the router will solve that as a temporary fix.
There is also a setting called Best Wifi Performance, which some suggest keeps the wifi chip from entering a deep sleep mode, making wake up faster. I checked that too.
Still not happy with the wifi problems. (no, its not my router, 7 other android devices connect to it just fine. Laptops and printers also).

Thats exactly what I found out too. Therefore it would be necessary to give the One X a own IP but in its own config. Not only on the router.
Do you know if this cn be done?

[Q] No internet through WiFi after few minutes, still connected

Hi guys,
I've searched the whole forum but I couldn't find any other thread about my problem.
When I connect my HOX to WiIF (Sitecom WL-370 - 300N Gigabit Dualband Router) everything works fine at first, but after a few minutes (5, or sometimes 15 minutes) I've got no Internet anymore but I'm still connected. Also WiFI Analyzer still detects the network. I've this problem both on 2.4 GHz as on 5 GHz. I've also tried switching channels.
The strange thing is, I can still receive a WhatsApp message but I can't send any, also I can't browse on the Internet or things like that.
After turning my WiFi off and on it works fine again for the few minutes..
Best Wi-Fi performance is turned on and the other devices at home haven't got this problem.
Anyone having the same problem or knows a solution?
I've got the same problem and it seems to be totally random. What i noticed is that my Google Play Store always stops working (no connection) shortly after i turned on the phone (~10 minutes). Switching Wifi off and on again doesn't seem to change it, i need to restart my HOX to get it working again while other apps connect just fine after turning Wifi off and on again.
Edit: Stock Vodafone ROM (1.28.161.9)
I have the exact same issue and i went through every setting in my router trying to fix this.
I would turn on my WIFI, connect to my home network, and start downloading. After a few minutes it'll either stop (the dl percentage not change) and then if i reload the market/youtube/browser or any app that users the net, it'll say no connection.
The weird thing about this is that it LOOKS like i am connected to wifi (in the notification bar).
This may be a separate issue, but i tried to turn it off and then on again to get around the issue. This time around i would try to connect to my home wifi and it'll just say 'Saved' and then the network would go out of range.
I am running Leedroids rom.
I might have found a solution:
Under Settings -> Wifi -> Menu -> Extended there is an option for Wifi Power Saving. After unchecking it all my connectivity problems are gone.
May be worth trying a static IP configuration, if you know enough about ip4 to do it. I've seen problems with android Wi-Fi since version 2.2 - if your router issues an indefinite dhcp lease, it can show exactly the symptoms you describe. Only a possibility but worth a try.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I have the exact same issue - the wireless shows connected yet you cannot browse the Internet etc. I have also tried every setting on the Wireless AP without any success. Even tried static IP and that does not fix it either. Whilst other devices in the house are ok...
The weirdest thing is though it does not happen everywhere i.e. at other places like work (where at least the same type of AP is in use) or at my brothers' house (where he has a Linksys). This is pretty much the only thing that bugs me with the HTC - the only workaround I have found is to make sure that WiFi is kept on only at times when plugged in - this doesn't actually fix the issue but it does mean that the phone will disconnect the WiFi and get a new connection next time it wakes up - this way I find I get the problem much less than when I have it set to Always.

Yeah, exactly, I've got the same problem. At school I've got no problems with the WiFi. I already send a message to HTC and I'm waiting on there answer.
I have kinda the same issue.
Using a HOX and at work I'm connected to Wifi and I can browse. At my house I can connect to the wifi, my IP is right that I'm getting from DHCP (I even tried putting in a static IP) but I can't browse
I also have a HTC Sensation, same setup and it works. The sensation can browse at work and at my house.
Why would this be?
Tried all sorts of solutions, but the only one that works is disabling the N-band and only leave B and G. This means that your laptop won't connect with the faster N, but at least the HOX works (what's more important )
Well I tried broadcasting a separate SSID on the b/g interface only for the exclusive use for the hox but that hasn't made any difference...my workaround is to have tunein radio in the background streaming whilst surfing...if I get bored of that solution my next workaround will be to trade the hox for an s3 as much as I despise TW...

I tried all the bands "B, G, N" and nothing works. So tired of this crap. Think I might just get a S3

I was thinking to do the same but there is no chance in hell of me doing that after I compared my HOX with a display model at the phone shop. Pentile screen vs LCD on the HOX? HOX = Sharper and better whites - the white on the S3 is bluish and so obvious. Another thing also I noticed is that the aggressive auto brightness on the S3 is too much - you won't tolerate it and you will likely be forced to manually adjust all the time. That plus reading that the S3 goes through the battery like no mans business when on standby unless you turn off all the features and put it in power save mode (might as well buy a Nokia then) at least the HOX uses the Ninja core and actually does save your battery in standby mode.
Anyway - the reason I replied is that I found a workaround (note, workaround does not mean a fix) - I put in a wifi extender in an area where I tend to spent most of my time with the HOX - this has not fixed the problem per se but rather seems to have elevated it somewhat. Basically now if the HOX drops from the main offending AP it automatically gets hooked up on to the extender and carries on working! I say this because (and I saw this only twice so far) I realised that when the phones Internet connection stops and you load a new page it timed out and get page cannot be found but when I hit refresh it works again you do notice a 3-4 second lag (this never happened before the extender came into play). Not sure if anyone else has tried this but I got a Linksys/Cisco extender for £69 and so far at least it has given me a workaround. Of course your mileage may vary...so don't splash out on an extender and come and blame me if it doesn't work for anyone here...
I am also having this issue with my HOX has anyone found a fix for this?
i have tried everything listed and nothing works.
its weird though because i have NO issues on my home network, but my network in my apartment here and at work network i get this issue
!!
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbuuuuuummp any fixes??? this sucks !!!!
What versions of android you guys have? Stock, sense, vanilla android, ics, jelly bean? Because I didn't encounter this problem when running stock or ics custom roms. After I updated hboot to 1.31 and tried different jelly bean sense roms it appeared. I also tried some stock android roms (ice cold jelly and liquid smooth) and wifi seemed to work fine. So is this sense problem only?

[Q] Text messages not recieved until I press the "Power" button?

On my HTC One X (Orange Android 4.0.3, HTC Sence 4.0 Software 1.29.061.11) I have a common problem where I don't get a text message until I press the "Power" button at the top of the phone. As soon as I do, the phone beeps and vibrates, and displays the message on screen. The text message will have a time stamp of many minutes before (maybe 15/30 minutes). If I don't keep checking my phone, I don't receive messages!
Its like the phone is in a deep sleep and isn't receiving messages.

It may have something to do with HTC SmartSync.
Yes I know it is only supposed to between the hours of 12(Midnight) and 7AM, but it may not be de-activating for you.
Also is it constantly, or intermittent?
i noticed this before, but havent since the 2.17 update - maybe this is what fixes it..
Are you using wifi and set it to turn off while your screen is off? That might be problem.

No, SmartSync is enabled by default, HTC though they were being clever but it has cause no end of issue.
There was an app that you could use to disable it, but it has been removed from the Play Store
Im sorry I cannot help you further but I can almost guarantee this will be your cause.

SmartSync only disables data connections (WiFi and mobile data) from 0.00 to 7.00, so I highly doubt it has anything to do with your problem. I have noticed I sometimes get the sms notification when I turn on the screen, but never more than 2 minutes after the SMS has actually arrived. On some CM-based ROM's there is an option for the SMS app to show the time the text was sent, as opposed to the time your device received it, and there are delays caused by the network sometimes, so there may be nothing wrong with your phone.
I suggest you install Ghostly SMS. It will essentially double your SMS notification (unless you purchase the donate version, which will remove it once your SMS app displays its own), but it's always fast and reliable - you will see it gets the SMS a fraction of a second before the system's notification appears. I've been using it since there was a problem with messages not being received on a CM7 Nightly for my old Desire and it has never failed.
I noticed last night, around 7/8PM (UK TIME!) that when I switched my screen on, my WiFi and Signal reconnected.
I am having the same issue as you, my Network and Connections turn themselves off with the screen haha !

Yeah no signal bars, with the red cross over.
And Wifi has no bars also, and is grey'd out as it looks when you are on very low signal?
It either only stays like that for long enough for me to notice it, or it never re-connects and I have to restart my phone.
Any one know a cause/solution?

that's definitely not smart sync doing that - not for the phone signal anyway
have you got the phone set to wcdma only ?
if you haven't tried already, then try take the sim card out, clean it, blow into the sim slot in case of dust etc and then put back in and try again
what rom are you using? and what mods if any?
Edit: just seen your sig, if you're on stock then its easier to diagnose at least. try and boot the phone in safe mode for a few hours, check if it continues to do it or not

The mobile signal just disappearing at random happened to me when I traveled to Italy, but it must have been something with the netwrok, since it only happened there. However, I had no problem at all with WiFi.
The fact that both of your connections have bad signal makes me think of a either hardware issue or a bad radio. I've never flashed a radio on my HOX, but maybe a RUU could help. Or you might have to take your phone to the service...

I think its when I travel a big distance in a certain amount of time, I read that some where else. Say if you got in a car, drove around town for a bit (Which is what I did when I noticed) then the signal goes wierd, continue doing it and its as though it gives up trying to chace you round and just thinks, theyll sort me out when im needed (yes im talking as though im bar of signal haha)
The quote below also stacks up, as he was traveling in italy?

Can you try and help me find n RUU, but I don't think i'll use it as theres too much data on my phone to lose
HTC have agreed to a repair already about the WiFi, but I don't want them anywhere near my phone, once you've purchased they dont care. I USED TO LOVE HTC ! Now they have made me think they dont care about the customers.
Perhaps I should ask about the radio issue also?!

I see now your signature says you're still on stock ROM. If that's the case, you might not need an RUU, a simple Factory Reset might do the same job. RUU's are different for different carriers, so I can't find one for you, but you will find them all here. If your phone is not branded (i.e. without simlock or any custom software by your carrier), look for one that has 401 in the name, such as this one RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe
What data do you have to back-up? You can transfer all your files to your PC or store them on a cloud service (Dropbox, Drive etc) and you can backup your apps & data with adb as shown here.
If it is a radio issue, however, you may well have to take it for repairs. I don't know where you live, but I've always heard nothing but the best about HTC's repairs, they even accepted (free of charge) phones that had beed dropped on concrete or in a tank full of water, which is one of the main reasons I stay away from Samsung (along with TouchWiz, low-quality materials and more, but I'm getting too off-topic).
Good luck and tell us how it went! :good:
Thanks for the replies, I'm just going to hope that the ICS/Jellybean updates over the next few months help.
BTW, I dont use the Firefox browser. Thanks

[Q] Push notifications delayed on WIFI

I've seen a few similar threads to the one I'm about to make. I've tried different suggestions which I will post here. Yet, none of them seems to work and I'm curious to see if anyone of you has a fix for my problem. My phone is an unbranded international HOX using the 9.7.2 ARHD rom by Mike1986. Here we go:
Problem
While being on WIFI my push notifications aren't coming through in time. There's a delay from anywhere between a few minutes up to as much as 40+ minutes. The phone doesn't have this issue being on the mobile data network. I'm also not 100% sure if the delay is still there when I'm on an different router. Even when I turn on the screen again, the messages seem to come in randomly.
Settings
WIFI best performance enabled
Static IP by router
WIFI sleep policy: Wifi always on
Tried suggestions
Wakelock: One thread described using an app called REGPON keep-alive, which installs a wakelock onto the phone to keep the data connection alive. This app did not do the trick. It only drained my battery and the messages still didn't come through.
Wifi performance: Set the phone to maximum wifi performance. This seemed to work for a while but ended up not working proper either
Kernel: Try a different kernel was one suggestion. I've switched from Stock to Faux123 010 kernel. This didn't change anything about the WIFI problem.
Static IP + Portforwarding + Disabling router Firewall: I've tried both port forwarding on port 5228 and even the range 5224-5228. I've also tried setting up triggered ranges. Maybe I'm doing something wrong on this part though. The router firewall is disabled and it should no longer block anonymous WAN packages.
Disable SmartSync: With the Suite Tools that are included in Mike1986's rom I've disabled Smartsync. No results as far as the wifi problem goes.
Probing app: I've tried an app that supposedly probes my router at least every minute in order to keep the connection alive.
Switching between b/g/n network: Didn't make a difference. The signal quality of the router is also good.
The only thing that did work for extended periods of time was using this remote control app that allows me to type through my PC keyboard, where the text ended up on the phone. I've also got an app installed to test push notifications. It's capable of making a log. Maybe that'll give you guys more information.
Right now I'm not sure if it's an issue with the HOX or if my router somehow stops the traffic. I don't recall having this problem on my HTC Desire. Does anyone have anymore tips?
Thanks,
Zendio
No problem with Gmail push notification on Stock 2.17.401.2.
Yesterday I still was on ARHD 9.7.2, also there I never noticed any delay.
Edit: this complies to various wifi networks (@home, @office, @parents etc.)

I am so sorry to hear you are affected by this problem, but also happy someone else is experiencing the exact same thing as I am !!!
I have tried different solutions to no avail.
Would love to hear something on this topic !!
Also I should note, I don't have any kind of task killer installed.
In general use WIFI feels really fluid and responsive. I really have no idea what could cause these problems.

I hope so. My One S is experiencing the same thing. I've tried everything above. No luck. Some stuff is fairly critical that I get it as soon as it comes in. I might try getting ahold of a Nexus 4 and do some testing with its wifi, just to make sure it isn't a general Android problem.
What router do you have? My issue was any android device in the house. Turned out it was my router, I put a custom firmware on it and all my trouble have gone away. My friend has the WiFi issue on a virgin media superhub.

I have an Asus RT-N66U. Funny you should suggest that. I'd planned to throw Tomato on it tonight and see how that works out. I did some tests at my folks' and their router had the same results. It's some cheap Netgear thing. Not sure of the model at the mo. I'll post back with results. If not tonight, tomorrow some time.
No go
Well that was unsuccessful. Actually it slowed things down. With the default firmware I get notifications from the instant I press power to wake up my phone. With Tomato there was a second or so before I got them.
Time to try DD-WRT tonight to see if that does the same thing.
I have an rt-n56u so the older version of yours and I'm running the Asus wrt that is being made, its fixed all my problems and is awesome tbh.

Set Beacon mode power safe (BMPS) to 0 in WiFi ???.ini config file should resolve this problem.
Such ???.ini config file usually placed under /system/etc/wifi or /system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/

Sightly strange WIFI issue

Good afternoon XDA HOX owners,
I'm having a really strange problem with getting on to my wifi AT HOME ONLY.
The phone sees the wifi, registers the strength of the signal, but loses connection all the time. it's the first time I've had this issue with a gadget, and this is the 4th smart phone that's been owned in my household, while using this particular wireless router. there's also 2 laptops, a NAS and an iPad (EEWwwww ) ... and my mates that have my wifi password get on without an issue...
If I turn the wifi on the phone off and on, it works for maybe ten seconds to a minute, and then drops connectivity, but not the signal. I know this because of the little 'up and down' connectivity arrows that run in the CM10 wifi indicator. they go either up, or down or nothing, but the signal is still there.
Any help would be massively appreciated as it's ruining my love for the awesome device the HOX is, especially running CM10.
Thanks :good:

Gonna bump this thread up because I'm home and it's driving me batty!

I had this issue with my homehub on the 'n' setting. Something just didnt work between the phone and hub. Try changing it to 'g' if its not that im at a loss. My.x would work everywhere else but home properly
Now works flawlessly
My nexus used to fly with the hub. Slightly irritated i had to lower performance purely for my phone. Its npt a massive difference but theres a reason theres a g and a n lol

Thanks mate.
So I've tried that and no luck. Virgin phone support says it must be a 'hardware issue with the phone'.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks

I'm having similar issues with my Wi-fi at home, tho my connection lasts longer, sometimes 10 mins, sometimes 5 hours+ sometimes all day. The strange part is that when i use wi-fi on the phone alot like some sort of heavy stuff youtube, downloading etc. then my connection drops. I've tried using only N connection and BGN Mixed on 20 and 40HZ channel and N seams to give me the best results, never tried B and G connections since i think those reduce the range of your WI-FI , too bad i didn't go for A B G N router. Anyway could be up to my router or something, every device that uses my WI-FI has same issues with this router. I even took it to the repair center they've done some ping tests and showen me that router works perfect. anyway back home still does those buggy things. If anyone has any good idea please feel free to suggest us.
I'm also having an issue with mine, although slightly different.
My phone connects to available wireless with no problem and stays connected however when I leave that location it stays connected instead of switching back to mobile data. I have to turn off wireless and then turn it back on to get it to switch to mobile data.
Kinda a pain in the arse and really annoying. I've missed allot of important emails since I got this phone due to me forgetting to turn wifi off everytime I leave somewhere with wifi.
None of my previous smart phones had this issue. I'm hoping that if I get custom rom on it, it will work properly,
