I`m a Kaiser Owner, and looking at the Rhodium as a possible upgrade, but like many others here I`m sure, I`m concerned about iffy video performance. HTC really seem to have dropped the ball on this one, my experiences of the Kaisers video have made me wary.
Anyone heard any feedback on this topic? Anyone with a pre-production model give us a heads up?
For example, could the Rhodium play a 640*480 WMV video without dropping frames?
Same processor as the old TP must mean same video issues, right?
I had Kaiser, and with the right encoding & software video was absolutely fine! I don't know what all the complaints were about.
The Xperia can handle full resolution video pretty well if encoded correctly, and I'm sure this will be the case with the TP2 as well, as the hardware should be powerful enough to do it.
I can't comment on the Touch Pro, as I haven't used one. The TP2 has quite a high-res screen, but I'm sure it'll be fairly easy to get a decent video experience from it.

I think they made the drivers for the touch pro better didnt they? the 3d ones? so if they did yeah it will be VERY good if they do that for this to which I bet they will if they did for the old one

To my knowledge nothing has been improved with the drivers for the touch pro. I have a Sprint TP and video sucks on it. Some ppl have messed around with 3d drivers with various levels of success, but nothing official has been done. There's a whole sticky thread at PPCGeeks on TP video playback tips:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=57282
So far I haven't really got anything to work for me reliably. What ppl fail to realize is that having a bigger/better screen is only going to make things worse if the hardware/drivers aren't improved. 320x200 video played fine on my Touch and probably would be fine on my TP, but going to 640x400 is 4x the resolution.
Unless HTC improves the 3d/video drivers, the TP2 is going to be as bad or worse than the TP because it is the same stinking hardware. I was so disappointed that the TP2 is just a rehashed TP which really has no better hardware than the Touch--just better screens w/o the greater horsepower to drive them.
I hope I am wrong about this and the TP2 video and graphics are awesome, but I certainly will not upgrade to it until I am certain the situation is improved.

Thanks for pointing that out. I am going to try them and they will probably help some, but I had already heard about it and for the most part they only address part of the problem.
If, and it's a BIG IF, HTC fully optimized ALL the drivers for the TP2, then it could be quite a bit better than the TP. Given HTC's crappy history I would have to have it thoroughly proven to me before I would believe it. However I am hoping against experience that it will be the case.
Maybe this is one of the big reasons why they stuck with much of the same hardware. So they could optimize everything. Hopefully.

Hello, I would have to say that the video quality is 100% better than the TP. I have been watching full videos with NO quality loss in sound or video. I was using the Sprint Touch Pro and was not very happy, but the TP2 is perfect. I can even get 2 full movies out of one charge!!! I have been watching a lot of DivX movies the same ones I watch on my PC, with no issues (well, except each one takes up about 700MB.)
The set up I have been using is, CorePlaer and the D3D Driver. DivX player works well also, but the text gets very small due to the resolution. Hope this helps!
Core player
Video quality is great with core player. Watched 2 movies on my TP2 today and it was very good with great frame rate. And I could use higher res mp4 movies if i wanted to and still keep 100% playback so i havent even pushed it yet. Totally recommended.
I can play a 800x480 AVC encoded movie with aac+ audio at ~1.2Mbit without any hiccups through HTC's video player. Coreplayer on the otherhand can't come anywhere near handling this. Looks damn good too! I used MEGUI with AVC Zune settings to make the video from a bluray movie. It's about 1GB in size.
curious
Just curious why the video player thats built in will play only some of my mp4 files? Thats one of the reasons why I went with coreplayer was because most of my mp4 movies would play a green screen with audio on the built in player and wmp.
Anyone know if TP2 has the same qtv video hardware acceleration?
I'm surprised nobody has posted anything about qtv.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=57282
I have a TP and mp4 video plays flawlessly through HTC album because it has the proper qtv drivers. My problem has been with playing divx in coreplayer with the reverse engineered qtv driver. I was hoping that HTC would drop qtv in the TP2 so that I could play divx in a player with proper video drivers. Does anyone know if HTC still uses qtv in the TP2?

MP4 is a file format that supports a few different video codec. Mostly like the green screen means the video codec isn't supported by the player. I would highly recommend these days to encode the video with H.264 as the video codec. This codec is the standard supported by all major companies these days, Apple, Adobe, MS, etc. Some video cameras like the Sanyo Xacti also captures video natively as MP4 (H.264) so there is no need to encode the video.
And TP2 plays MP4 (H.264) video well both in HTC Album and WMP.
Hi,
I am a Kaiser user, and as you know HTC launched that product with incomplete drivers. Video acceleration drivers were included, and video playback is worse than on most phones; even the ones that are MUCH cheaper.
So one of the BIG questions that most Kaiser / ATT Tilt / TyTN II users will have when considering an upgrade is whether the drivers on the HTC Rhodium are complete, whether video acceleration works perfectly, etc.
Can those of you familiar with the driver problems on the Kaiser, and who own a Rhodium reply to this thread telling us what is the driver situation with this model?

so far things are ALOT better .. but they still act up on things like fpsece it is still that terrible qualcomm cpu just a slightly newer one.. im hoping that since this is one is new there is still alot to come for it especially with windows marketplace around the corner i would blame windows mobile but i played with an omnia today and the lack of bugginess blew me away but its no where near as pretty as my tp2
bump.
Anyone got tips on whether or not to get one of the touch pro 2's? god I dont want an iPhone but media is the biggest thing I'm looking for in my next phone.
tbh you dont want an iphone then. its low res and not capable of many vdeo formats, videos must be "synced" and are easily deleted by apple software. the rhodium also has a nice tilt screen great for watching videos.
I really like the tilting screen my current phone is the TyTn II and my only complaint is the video performance. A jail broken iphone plays all media types via VLC media player so thats an easy fix. But I'd really rather have the Tilt 2 I just need it to not be the gimp multimedia device that the Tilt is.

IMHO (yeah that dangerous acronym), I've noticed that the TyTnII/Kaiser and the Rhodium are more for business users not recreational users. My partner has an iPhone and I've played with it a couple times. When it came to upgrade my Kaiser, I considered the iPhone as a possible upgrade, but chose the Rhodium/Tilt2.
Why? iPhones do real lousy with Microsoft Office apps, no hard keyboard (I'm fat fingered enough thanks), and a dependence on iTunes that I find frustrating. I've also found several apps that will allow me to convert between iTunes format and standard MP3/wma. Besides, as far as I know there are no cool roms that take advantage of the power of the iPhone.
I think this phone would be superior to the iPhone in every way if these stupid bugs didn't exist. How many just exist for texting? From random message lag to the damn thing freezing for several minutes when you back out of a text. The message box can be all screwed up, too. And all of this happens way to frequently.
core player works fine for me. i watch all types of video. the tilty screen is good for it.
so it seems that from what yall are saying; if I'm not in it for office documents and all i want is to watch my cartoons and make phone calls/texting (I have skinny fingers ) the iphone still beats out the tilt 2.

I'd not say the iPhone beats out the Rhodium/Tilt 2, but I will say that the Rhodium/Tilt properly tweaked and free of AT&T bloatware is a media match for iPhone. Hello everyone,
I've been reading this forum for a number of years now, so first and foremost let me say thank you for all of the wonderful work that this community does.
After doing a bit of research, it seems that the Tilt2 cannot do VGA video recording unlike its T-Mobile and unlocked counterparts.
I have attempted to change between several different ROMs including T-Mobile's shipped ROM, as well as trying several different radio versions.
Thus far, no combination of ROM or Radio has budged the CIF limitation on the Tilt2.
I suspect that this has to do with the different processor used in the Tilt2(7201A) versus the original and T-Mobile Touch Pro2's (7200A).
There doesn't seem to be much information available about this, so I humbly ask that anyone who could shed some light on this to please do so.
I believe that the CDMA Rhodiums are similarly crippled but with a different processor(7600A)
This feels like a hardware limitation, but I'm truly hoping that an xda member smarter than I could get this to work.
I'm sure the entire AT&T community would appreciate it If we could get VGA video recording to work on the Tilt2.
If there is anything I can do to assist, perhaps test a cab/rom/patch on my Tilt2, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks in advance
I have the Telstra version and can capture VGA video as long as the capture format is set as: MPEG4
I too have noticed this. I read reviews that claim that this device can record VGA video, but the option is simply missing in the recording settings for video.
Can any one please shine some light on this?
I believe the Telstra Rhodium runs a 7200A (feel free to correct me here) and has no issues recording VGA video.
I have attempted setting both MPEG4 and H.263 in every rom/radio combination.
From what I have read, the 7200A versions of the Rhodium can also do H.264, which does not appear to be available with a 7201A/7600A either.
So can anyone shine some lights as to if this is a hardware limitation or not?
I cannot see why a different chip set model number would make too much of a difference. The camera lens is capable of recording such resolution and the clock speed is the same across all 720XX platforms.
Looking through the registry, there are definitely options for the VGA recording modes under both MP4 and H264 (which is in the registry but H263 is not, despite the camera program listing the format as H.263). I honestly have never seen anything about the difference in the processors leading to video mode limitations. I couldn't find any keys relating to the activation of those modes. Anyone more familiar with the camera software setup might be able to figure out where a key needs to be changed (more likely to add a key).
Oh yeah, those VGA options definitely exist in the registry, even in the stock Tilt2 ROM.
The reason I'm doubting that this is a registry edit is that there are confirmed reports of the T-Mobile Touch Pro2 doing this with it's shipped ROM.
However, flashing this same T-Mobile shipped ROM onto the Tilt2 offers no VGA recording.
Also, looking at the 7201 on the Qualcomm Site
Qcamcorder™: Record up to 24 fps QVGA
Not sure if 7201 is the same as 7201A though...
Okay about my post above I now realize that the 3GP registry entries under HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Recparam\ are the entries used to determine the parameters for H.263 but what I find curious is that in the directory mentioned above there are too DWORDs EncodeFormatH264 and EncodeFormatMP4, there is not a EncodeFormatH263. Those two entries have a value of 58 on my Tilt 2.
Now I went into the video mode's registry entries (located in HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P2\) and by changing the EncodeFormat entry from 48 to 58 I unlocked Motion JPEG as a Video Format. Obviously I was just fiddling with some of these values, but I could not find a suitable value for MainCamSupportCaptSize that would unlock more sizes (I assume this will be the entry that would unlock more). HTC setup a system for the reg values determining what options to enable that I don't really follow; I only tried the 58 because that was the value of the EncodeFormatH264 and EncodeFormatMP4.
If anyone with a Touch Pro 2 that supports the VGA recording (i.e. International, T-Mobile, Telstra, etc.) could post the value of their MainCamSupportSize entry that would be cool. Also if you have any entries in the HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Recparam\ directory other than the ones I pointed out earlier that might tell us something.

If flashing the T-Mobile ROM onto it doesn't solve the problem, then I agree this is probably a hardware issue.
I noticed that all of the registry values for frame rate where set to 15, so it seems even if the 7201 and 7201a support the same camera functions HTC limited the frame rate a bit on the Tilt 2, probably the same on the TP2.

I can confirm that Telstra version is 7200A and it has options for H.263, MPEG4 and H.264 recording. Note that VGA is only available for MPEG4.
I have found a forum where something similar is discussed, but regarding the Xperia X1. (here)
The US version uses the MSM7201A while the WWE version would use the MSM7200A, this is because of an patent infringement of Qualcomm with Broadcomm patents presumably with something related to video compression.

If this is the case, how is it possible that the T-Mobile US version has the banished 7200A chipset?
Looks like either AT&T is trying to screw it's customers, or Qualcomm is about to have more legal complications with Broadcomm.
Kind of makes me want to switch to T-Mobile and get their TP2 before they're forced to adopt the 7201A as well.
For reference, from the HTC Tilt 2 manual (from the HTC site, under the AT&T Tilt 2 product, named "090826a_Barium_ATT_UM.pdf), Section 11.1, "Taking Photos and Videos":
Resolution
VGA 640x480*
CIF 352x288
L 320/240
M 176x144
S 128x96
* Available only in some models
The specs on the HTC website say nothing of the camera resolutions, nor do they say anything on ther AT&T website that I can see.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm in an "AT&T are rat bastards" mood. They won't let me renew my contract and get the Tilt2 via Walmart yet ("not eligible for an upgrade"), but are more than happy to let me upgrade via the website for $499. Oh well, I can wait two months to replace my craptastic Tilt.
With this news about the camera, I'm wondering if I should just get an unlocked HTC Touch Pro II for full price. *sigh* But then the frequency bands might not be the same... Front camera and VGA on the rear, or full 3G, decisions, decisions...

Well I am disappointed that we got stock with this chipset. I guess I won't be using the phone as a video camera anyway, but it would have been nice if the various versions of the Rhodium had some what equivalent hardware. Sigh, oh well ...
Okay wait... the tilt 2 manual says that VGA recording is available... on SOME models?
wtf is that supposed to mean? There are only two models of the phone from At&t. One with a camera, and one without. Are you trying to tell me the one without the actual camera has the capability of recording video at VGA resolutions?
That makes no sense at all.... ???

Typically when they make these manuals, they take the text from a generic source and then format it to the specifications of the OEM. So, I suspect one of two things happened here:
1. Only the non-US (or maybe non-AT&T) phones have the ability to record VGA
2. Some AT&T phones have the ability (early hardware, perhaps), and this is an update to the original manual.
To confirm/deny (1), I just checked the manuals for the Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile Touch Pro II phones at the HTC website:
Sprint: No VGA video capture mode listed
Verizon: No VGA video capture mode listed
T-Mobile: No VGA video capture mode listed
CIF (352x288) is the largest capture mode listed for those other three phones.
So, my guess is that none of the U.S. models of the TP2 officially have VGA video capture as a feature, but maybe some early units (prototypes?) do.

Calling AT&T and talking to one of their tech people, I was told that the "some models" refers to the international version of the Touch Pro2. He said that for whatever reason, when AT&T subsidized the phone with their ROM, they excluded this feature. It didn't seem like he knew too many specifics and didn't mention anything about the chipset. Either he didn't know any better or perhaps I just got the "end user" explanation.
He did welcome me to buy an unlocked TP2 if I felt so inclined and use it on the AT&T network, but reminded that this would not work on the AT&T 3G network.

This is quite strange as I have personally seen two Touch Pro2's from T-Mobile, one that was bought in mid-august on release, and another that was bought just a week before I got my Tilt2 on Oct 8th. Both chipsets were 7200A, and I am all but certain that any Touch Pro2 bought from T-Mobile US now will be 7200A and VGA recording capable.
Then again, I suppose nobody would ever complain about the available resolution being higher than is advertised in the manual.
The quadrupled video recording resolution, and much better overall audio quality were pretty much the only two reasons for me to give up a small fortune in this economy to upgrade from the Fuze.
Anybody willing to build a custom Touch Pro2 with the FM radio, case design, and PTT button of AT&T, the front camera and VGA video recording from the HTC version, the 3.5mm jack from the CDMA version, the multi-color send/end keys from Verizon, the MicroSD slot and reset button accessibility from the T-Mobile version, unlock all seven HSDPA bands that the 7200A supports in QPST, and perhaps even a modded tri-purpose Mute LED/Mute Button/Camera flash on the back? This sounds a lot more like something worth $500+
Swap out the 7200A for a Snapdragon QSD8672, add a nokia style 5+ megapixel camera with an optical zoom and a real flash, a hybrid capacitive-resistive display running Windows Mobile 7 and you would have a serious piece of device that I would readily buy for $1500.
This is so stupid... Does the Verizon & Sprint version have VGA recording? I always thought the 7200 vs. 7100 was a license thing with the USA... How come the T-Mobile has it thou?! Think I'm gonna jump ship to T-Mobile...
just to clarify: i'm from singapore, using a TP2 T7373, stock unlocked
got VGA video recording but only with MPEG4. option's not available with H.264
if anybody needs me to upload a sample video, just holla.
cheers.

If you use BsB Tweaks and you set "Video Formats: Enable hidden video recording formats" to "On" you can change the video Capture format to 3GPP2 and select VGA recording.
That said it looks pretty terrible when recorded in that mode.
Yes but the question is, how do you get 640X480 to become an option?
Hello everybody!!!
I think many HD users looked for good games for their devices. There are some really nice applications like Resco Bubbles, Experiment 13 etc. Also We can run Nintendo, Sega and other old games on HTC HD(with sortware multitouch support).
However, for my device I want at least psx games...(I am final fantasy and takken fan) I found emulators such as PocketISO and FPSEce, which allowed you run games from PS1. BUT I cant install it properly(I read many articles about it before start a new thread, but still cant find solution). Furthermore, I read, that FPSEce is not support WVGA(((
On Youtube I found many videos about FPSEce 0.10 working on Samsung Omnia and running psx games with full speed. I don't think that HTC HD is less powefull in turms of CPU and RAM than Omnia(maybe I am wrong).
So, can anybody explain me how to install it and (if possible) how to make it multitouch (like Morphgear with some skins and fix)?
I am using WM 6.5.3 by T2M(28004)
Thx in advance.
I try to run fpsece many times, but always whit poor result. The site appear old and no update. However, This progr starting directly from the executable file and work in the hd wvga, but can't start games for me
the point is simple really, the resolution aint supported. omnia has a far less screen res, thus delivering better application experience/smoothness. moreover, it seems fpsece has been discontinued or at least not updated in the last, well, year, so i fear your request is d00med from the start.

Not really. Project is not dead!!! Check video on YouTube, it is amazing!!! Driver 2 with "touch" control and full speed. G-sensor is working, nice on-screen buttons, sylus mode etc. Now it is even better than real PS1!!!
By the way, I had chat with moderator from FPSE forum, and he said, that new version will probably released before Xmas! I hope it will fully compatible with our device.

I've been waiting for FPSCE all year now, and every week we've been told "It's a few weeks away". I've purposely put it out of my mind for weeks now as I can't be bothered with the continual delays (although it does seem a lot of progress has been made recently and it looks a fantastic app).
I had 0.96 running on my HD no problems, except the FPS (frames per second) was about 17 for even simple games like Ridge Racer = unplayable. However vers 1.0 promises to work a lot quicker.
There is also a thread on their forum about the Touch HD, and I think it will work and be playable if/when released. They are also working on multitouch-faking controllers, otherwise bluetooth controlllers work well.
So I'm a little ambivalent over the project, mainly because I got sick of waiting for it, but I'm ready to eat my hat if/when it is released (probably in 2011 )

Well, I hope you are wrong about release date...
About FPS: I have tried Final Fantasy 8 and during first video it worked with 25-35 frames per second. However, I can't start the game - I can see FF boot screen, but I can't move to the main menu. I pressed all buttons("x", "start" etc.) with no result, only "select" buttons works fine. What I did wrong? I have tried other games with the same result.

Exactly why I wanted to see the videos myself... You can't compare the TG01 with the HD! The HD doesn't even have half the Toshiba's speed!
(Even when running a SnapDragon processor at the same frequency as the HD's processor, the former is faster than the latter...)

I know that TG01 in terms of speed and performance much better than our device.
I just posted this links as an example of what new version can do....
About speed:
This is DELL X50v
On this device FPSEce runs many games with 30-40 frames per second.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i4JNUaEOdE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBSgNJlq38Q&feature=related
I don't think that X50v(processor 624 MHz Intel PXA 270, 64 RAM, VGA) is more powerfull than HD(processor 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7201A, 288 MB RAM, WVGA)
BTW, on this video it seems to be an old version of FPSEce, however authors said that new version will run games much faster and smoother.....

Don't know, if CPU is everything... I know the Axim has a very powerful 2700G graphic chip the HD doesn't! (I owned a Axim before my HD...
this will be fantastic. i can't wait to try crash band on my Topaz
Hi maxcy,
I just installed Max Manila Ultimate 2.6 Beta and can confirm that it works perfectly with latest NRG ROMs. Once again you did an awesome job. I finally have my 16 shortcuts and bg4all back + a working action softkey. Thank you so much.
ps1 for wvga
hi guys i think fpsece looks really good im tired of the low quality mobile games they keep bringing out and this looks like it will be decent. just need to find out how to get all my favourite ps1 games on my storage card. i read on the oficial forum that the developer is thinking about charging £5 for the emulator when its available on wvga devices. well im sure he/ shes done alot of work and i for one think thats fair. i think it will be free if you dont want to save your game or something like that. just cant wait.
Hey GUYS!
FPSEce is released!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This software support WM 6.5.3, at least some ROMs. For example, it works on Flashmore's and XennyTech's ROMs.

google is your friend! can't really say, where you can find it.
Hi
I thought i would ask you guys as ive been unable to get an answer though google.
I was playing with utube and searched 3D - i loaded up the utube test video and was amazed it worked while on wifi, not on hspda though.
this got me thinking, if the screen does support 3d natively.
other you tube 3d videos also seemed to work, without the fuzz effect or spilt screen as it does on a 2d screen (Tested the same videos on the computer without 3D support).
anways i put on a couple of movies in 3d and tried them on the native player, dice, and mobo. all of them played the movies in split screens and i couldnt find an option to enable 3D.
does anyone know if its possible to view them as 3D videos or am i barking up the wrong tree.
many thanks
seriously?
No, it doesn't have a 3D screen.
But it does give directions about 3D when you enter youtube the first time,
I dunno if it works with glasses? Or maybe only TV out on 3D ready TV.
If the One X works like the Asus Transformer Prime, which is also Tegra 3, then 3D may work over HDMI to a compatible tv. If you visit the Tegra Zone you will see which games are 3D compatible too

That sounds sweet...
The 3D support on the Transformer Prime comes from the Tegra 3 itself. I have just googled to see if I can find anything regarding the One X and 3D output via hdmi and can't find anything. Strange seeing as Like I said it's built into the Tegra 3 itself.
There's more info regarding the Tegra 3 herehttp://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-computing/nvidia-tegra-3-what-you-need-to-know-1039584 including the 3D info at the bottom of the article.
"Providing you have a 3D TV compatible with HDMI 1.4 or above you can watch and play in 3D using Nvidia's 3D Vision tech."
I don't have the cable for my One X but I have linked my Prime to my brothers 3D tv and with bluetooth PS3 pad support too it's ace
I am tempted to get a 3d monitor for my pc/Prime/One X (if compatible) then I can play 3d content more often. I'd get a 3d tv but my wife and kids monopolise the tv mostly so I wouldn't get much look in
