There's a Q&A subforum for a reason. Unlocking your bootloader allows you to make modifications to your phone, change your recovery, and flash custom roms. It wipes all your data once you unlock, so you should do this right away, even if you don't plan on rooting right away.

I know you're in India, but here in US it's giving the middle finger to ATT and Verizon.

Yes. The tool kits have a 1-click method of doing all that for you.

Unlock Bootloader and Root From Phone?

I just got my Galaxy Nexus in the mail today and literally just sold my computer and have no way of accessing one at the moment. Does anyone know of a method to unlock the bootloader and root from the phone itself? Thanks in advance for any help.

It is impossible to unlock a bootloader without being plugged into a computer.

Improbable, my friend. Looks like I'm going to install the SDK on my Touchpad running Arch... this is gonna take a while. Thanks anyway.

You do not need to install the SDK to unlock your bootloader. All you need is the driver for your device and the fastboot binary. That's it.
Look at the "flash yakju" link in my signature. It gives you instructions on how to unlock.

I'm aware, but I need the sdk and Eclipse for other things. Might as well kill two birds with one stone while I'm at it. And you don't need drivers for Android phones in a Linux distribution, thank god .

I assume it's a fact our phone will be getting AndroidOS 4.2, but does anyone have a link as to when that might be?
Thanks for any info.

No one knows at this time.
But you can be sure there will be links to the rom file asap. Courtesy of XDA members.
Cool. I was hoping for some speculation at least, LoL....

I` am sure we will get 4.2, it is not a major update. Even the Note 1 gets Jellybean after a year. Samsung isn`t LG fortunately
Sammobile just leaked a new jb firmware for gt n7000...in that post they say that jb 4.2 is planned for Q1 2013 release...for s3 n note 2...

Samsung Galaxy note2 is now available in market. It is filled with so many features like funny videos, so many free apps for example:- angry bird, gophy gulfs etc. Access your mails any time anywhere. So many other features are available in this phone that make it impressive.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus returned with unlocked bootloader and different firmware

Hello all,
hope I've come to the right place...
I sent my Gnex back to my carrier (3UK) for repair; the screen had lots of banding, however, the device has been repaired and returned with an unlocked bootloader and different firmware {4.2.1 (JOP40D.I9250XWMA2)} yakjuxw. I have an unlocked padlock on the boot screen.
I basically want to update to 4.2.2 provided by Google rather than the current 4.2.1 provided by Samsung. A lot of the guides I see, also aim to unlock the bootloader and add custom recoveries, I want the phone to be as stock as possible.
Can someone please advise me how best to do this without screwing up my phone!
My environment is Windows XP/Ubuntu Natty
Thanks in advance to all who help

it is easy to learn!
for lazy people, flash with odin. see my sig.
Yeah, well, we think like this: Odin is not supported by Google (neither by Samsung), fastboot is. What people don't want is to admit that they're lazy.
a maguro wrote this.
Well, I'll look at the sticky, get everything that I need, and just follow the guide. Whether or not I'm lazy, is by the by....

I know I shouldn't do that but apparently is the only way it can be unlocked or if you know how can I unlock it without downgrade, I'll be more than willing to follow you.
Unlocked what? Sim unlock? Search xda for Galaxsim unlock. Needs root but safer than downgrade.

Yes, Sim unlock. My phone is already rooted and this is the only thread that apparently works but is not compatible with S3 T999 so, any ideas?
Wait? You don't even have a gt-i9300?
You're in the wrong forum then and nothing i've said is relevant.

First, check for updates and make sure you update to latest firmware/modem if not already installed. Just easier to do this now before changing things.
Then, just watch the video here and use the toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251033
Thank you...
I am new to this whole thing. I don't even have experience posting in a forum. Thank you for your help.
