iphone 2g brighter than my gs2

for fun i took my cousins iphone 2g and compared the brightness of the both while on google.com and while my gs2 had crisper colors and looked better while looking at it from different angles but when looked straight down on both devices the old iphone 2g was much brighter than mine.. both devices were at 100% brightness was wondering if this was something that might be wrong with my phone which i hope not because I've had no other issues with it like lines or bad pixels and I've read that this phone should be like a lighthouse at 100% brightness so i really wouldnt want to exchange it and end up getting 1 with everything else bad.... sighhhhh smh

thanks for being a smart ass but just to say ive been using an iphone since day 1 and had to switch when i saw this beast but this was my first n only real question about spec type or maybe mine being faulty so far about it n i get your idiotic response............

Google has a lot of white. Is the "adjust screen power " option on under display? That will dim the screen automatically under full brightness

if you disable auto dim, then the brightness can be adjusted to the same level as iphone
you don't want to see this phone at max power, it can literally Burn your eyes

thank you for the real responses i had the auto dim disabled ( if you mean the auto bright not sure if you do) but didnt have the adjust screen power unchecked and now that made a huge difference way brighter WOW!!.. thanks thinking i will be leaving the screen power checked.....lol

My buddy who also has a SGSII I have to tell him to turn the brightness down at night in the car going somewhere cause it's literally blinding.

I always have the brightness cranked when i'm at work because I go outside for smoke breaks and I like bring able to read my phone.

There's also a browser brightness in the menu after you open up the browser

Glad you got it sorted out, but I still think the iPhones' screens are nicer. If only they came out with a 4.5 inch iPhone with Cyanogen Mod .

My gs2 is so bright I need sunglasses to look at it.

the iphone screen might look nicer because you can fit it in the cup of your hand while you squint and pinch to enlarge each web page so you can read.. my only dilemma was thinking a 2g was brighter because i didnt get to test it with my 4 before i sold it but after seeing the full brightness of this I'm waaaayyyyyyyy over it...lol

[Q] Button Brightness

Curious if anyone has found a way to adjust the brightness of the touch buttons?
I like how they light up and I like how its only for like 1.5 seconds... but the brightness is crazy if your in a dark room!

I just turn them off completely. That way I dont get caught at work like I did on my vibrant.

Yah that is what I have done myself.. but even if you could drop the brightness by say 75% would be nice.

I noticed it was too low on regular galaxy s2 (i9100) , so probably samsung increased it on this one,
and now its too bright.
but i like this one bright.

I would love to have my back light dimmed down to like 25% or maybe 50% as I do a lot of reading at night before i sleep and I turn the screen brightness down to zero.
It's pretty good in a dark room in bed, but the buttons is freaking annoying and too bright.
And having the button light off isn't very useful since I press the back button all the time and always miss.
And during the day, 100% brightness on the button serves no purpose since you can still see the button with out any light on.
I would love it if any developers could take a look into this request?

The HTC Amaze only turns on the LED's if it's dark enough, I wish the Galaxy S2 would also do this as it would save a bit of battery.

The Screen Filter app lowers the screen's brightness and can also turn off the button light. I can't post a link yet due to my newbie status, but search for it on the Market.

Patience for cm. since cm has a very customizable brightness control including buttons brightness.

Its probably just because the black background is more of a contrast

Unless I'm mistaken our phones cannot adjust the brightness of those buttons regardless of ROMs (cm or otherwise). I'm pretty sure we only have one led board that only controls on or off (hence why you can only have all them on or all of them off, not just light individual ones). Cm might have those settings but it's because cm is made for many different phones and some phones might have the ability to adjust the brightness but not ours.

[Q] Galaxy S2 Tuner or the like increase screen Brightness?

As the title states.
I do believe that my Vibrant's screen was brighter than my S2. Is there any way to use software to tune the brightness above 100%?
Reason I ask, I was able to use galaxy Tuner on the Vibrant to tweak a whole lot of different settings aboveand beyond what was specified from default settings.
Any feedback/help would be appreciated.

Turn auto brightness off and adjust the brightness yourself in settings.

If you want the full brightness also make sure you have the "auto adjust screen power" option unchecked in the display menu I thought that an older iPhone had a brighter screen too til I unchecked that along with turning off auto brightness

the SAMOLED+ screens are super bright, it can blind you
make sure to not turn it to the max unless you are outdoor under a bright sun
basically don't need to go full strength in a dark room, or poorly lid room

I second that after I saw how bright this phone can go I made sure to recheck that power option n have kept the brightness at about 40-50% which is more than enough IMO

Exactly true. I always set the brightness to something like 5% of the full bar and it's bright enough. The screen is VERY bright...

Maybe i'm blind, I love bright! ! My vibrant is brighter. That shouldn't be the case. Any way to increase brightness above and beyond factory 100%? Thanks

i really dont understand why i would need this app ,personally my screen brightness never leaves 100 and if i could make it 125% i would ,you can adjust browser brightness in the browser settings and all you have to do is swipe across the top of your phone to lower the brightness ,dont understand how this app is useful. ipersonally think the screen could have been a little brighter .in complete darkness its gorgeous but in natural light during the day i find myself wanting it brighter .

Actually, I have the same issue. At 100% mine isn't so bright and driving in my car during the day it's quite dim yet set at 100%. so I back the OP in this issue and hope someone finds something. And those of you who insist he/she is trolling or not taking (stupid) hints, go play somewhere else. We've got a legitimate issue here and welcome anyone who can positively contribute to this thread. I'll post back if I ever find something. I remember using some app back on one of my old windows phones that did what we're looking to find so there should be something out there.

My Vibrant was brighter too...Also had a cooler tint to it. The audio on my vibrant was alot louder too.

The SGS2 is just as vibrant if you unlock the Auto Brightness

heres a trick i found. turn off auto brightness. then, just barely pull down notification bar and slide right to brighten and left to dim.... this works on MOST galaxy devices... not all

Is the galaxy nexus screen artificially limited in brightness?

GSMArena did a display test on the galaxy S3 and it is much brighter at full brightness. Galaxy note is also much brighter so why is it that the nexus has such a dim HD SAMOLED screen?? Is it software based so people dont end up with terrible battery time??
I so so wish the nexus can have brighter screen, my biggest complaint with the phone.

Probably better for Q &A, but AOSP and vanilla Google Android has always been overly aggressive about auto brightness and keeps it quite dim more often than not. It can, and is modified by OEMs and some custom roms.

I'm not sure my screen is as dim as what other owners claim theirs to be. I have it on auto-brightness and I don't have an issue with bright outdoors or indoor. I'm not sure I'd like it to be any brighter than it already is.
Maybe I'm not used to having my screen burn a hole in my cornea.

I am talking about full manual brightness, auto brightness is never perfect on any phone but it actually isnt dim at all on my nexus S.

Dunno. I am not about to go run to Best Buy and compare, but full on brightness on my phone is uncomfortably bright in the dark and dimly lit areas, and very visible in direct sunlight.

I tried the phone at a very brightly lit shop. Put the brightness to maximum manually and yet it was barely brighter than my nexus S at 50% brightness.
Brightness isnt a contest where every phone should try to beat others but it should be sufficient enough. I just think the nexus brightness isnt sufficient, it tops out at 200 nits when the minimum should be 300 nits for comfortable use in all environments.

Maybe it is your phone then. I can tell you this device is easily as bright as my old Samsung Fascinate, which isn't much different from the Nexus S in screen tech.

GSMArena and anandtech tests also show the galaxy nexus is the dimmest screen you will find in any of the high end android phones. A test done here on xda also showed the same thing.

If your phone can only match 50% of what the Nexus S can in brightness, there is something wrong with it. That or you are exaggerating. This is in my opinion, but I think it is a very valid point.

The screen seems to be limited in brightness from the factory, as a matter of settings. Using AOKP Rom and increasing the color multipliers makes the screen much, much brighter, but i've read speculation that it could cause the screen to burn-in images much faster, which logically speaking, seems to make sense. Maybe it's limited by Samsung for that reason. This particular panel seems slightly more prone to image retention than the one on my Droid Charge, granted it isn't the same as burn-in, but maybe an indicator of inclination toward it...

The GSIII probably gets 2 mins of battery life. A screen that bright on 4 Cortex A9's and 4 mali 400's at 32nm....the battery is going to SUCK.

I was not asking for opinions if the screen is dim or not but why is it. It wasnt my phone but a demo model at the shop. My experience showed me it was dim just like I had read in reviews.
I have an LCD nexus S, I am sure the AMOLED one at 50% wont be almost as bright as gnexus at 100. You know LCD's can get much brighter and the one on nexus S is particularly really bright.
I also compared galaxy nexus side by side with galaxy S2 and the difference was noticeable in brightness.

The GS3 is only 300 nits bright, it isnt anything out of the ordinary. The one X has 500 nits screen.
And nobody is forced to keep the screen on high brightness, it's just an option to have a really bright screen and a pretty good one at that.

I thought of it when you mentioned the GS2 - I had that phone for a week when it was released on Sprint, and any time the screen brightness was turned up and the screen was on for a few minutes, it would overheat and the OS forced it to low brightness until it cooled. At the time it was an issue quite a few people seemed to be having, so maybe it's limited on the Nexus for temp reasons too. As Smokeey had mentioned, battery life could be a factor as well.

Do you even OWN a GNex? I swear you're just here to troll the device.

Why cant I post if I dont have the device? I am thinking about upgrade from nexus S and I just made some threads about the potential issues I discovered about the device.

As long as you can see the screen who cares how bright it is. Are you trying to light up a room with it? Also, keep your phone on full brightness and you will be highly risking screen burn in so I would not recommend keeping it on full anyway even if it is not as bright as other devices.
Why would anyone purchase a phone or not purchase a phone based on it being the brightest screen out there. I can understand if you couldn't see the screen, but really? And now with the ability to change the colors and gamma of the screen, it just looks great.
So if you get the Nexus and keep the screen turned all the way up because you needed to light up your house to save money on electricity, please don't start a thread complaining about burn in.

And wtf? My eyes Hurt if I put full brightness.. And even if I try to read on direct sun i can do easy.. I use my phone on 25% brightness and thats enough

hehe, i bought googles flagship for 450€ and i need to care how long is screen on and i cant have it on full brightness all the time becouse i "risking screen burn"?

Ah keep LCD phone on full brightness and deal with the terrible blacks. Keep an AMOLED phone on full brightness and deal with burn-in. A perfect world we do not live in.
On a serious note screen brightness matters most when going out in the sun obviously. It can never be too bright when you are out.

Is the screen TOO bright?

The one problem I've had with the Note 1 is the retina burning brightness, even on the lowest settings. Especially at night, in dark rooms.

This doesn't answer your question, but the free app Screen Filter allows you to lower the brightness below minimum. I use it on my Galaxy S3 when reading at night. Like you, I find the minimum brightness on Samsung screens too bright at times. Just thought I'd mention it.

Brighter screen is better isn't it? I mean you can always turn the brightness down...on the other hand, if the screen is not bright enough...you can't really do anything about it can you? !

It is bright but not overwhelming if you mean that. I like the fact that it makes it easier to see in the sunlight.

That's just the thing. On the Note, you couldn't dial it down too far. In a dark room, it was bright such that without apps like screen filter I couldn't look at the phone. On screen filter is alright, except the display then looks overly blue.

Basically, the screen's lowest setting isn't low enough. I find myself using screenfilter a lot at night in a room with no lights.

my display way too bright, when lowering the brightness to the minimum, its still relatively bright enough. some note 2 displays I've seen had a different brightness than mine even though both levels were same for both phones. its an amoled thing.

Are u worry about screen burning issue? my note 1 got it after 6 month usage..note 2 I'm not sure, hav to wait another 3 month to see the effect, since i just got it 3 month ago...

You can always try different screen modes in settings -> display

I dont think that those screens are too bright, but rather becausr theyre too big. Even on the lowest setting, there is so much light generated by such a big screen that this might be it. Screen filter app may help.

Note 2 minimum brightness is definitely dimmer than Note 1, since I came from Note 1. So it is not bright at minimum setting IMO.

I use this program to give me fine-grained control of screen brightness at night.

Used that app, works great, so thanks for the suggestion man. Especially at night, I am pretty sure it is saving me some juice. What I am wondering is, is there an app which does the complete opposite of this? As in, one which allows you to increase the brightness more than the maximum level for n7100? Tried searching for one on the playstore but didn't find one
The thing is, I am in India, and when it's sunny here, its really, really sunny. Not complaining, but it makes reading your messages all that difficult while out.

If your phone is rooted, then download and install rom toolbox and open the build.prop editor. Change the minimum brightness level to whatever you desire. By default it's set to 20percent.

Not going with the Rom toolbox... It kind of messed up a script I was running last time I used it. Had to reflash stock and what not. Any other options, something which is only concerned with the screen?
