iphone 2g brighter than my gs2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

for fun i took my cousins iphone 2g and compared the brightness of the both while on google.com and while my gs2 had crisper colors and looked better while looking at it from different angles but when looked straight down on both devices the old iphone 2g was much brighter than mine.. both devices were at 100% brightness was wondering if this was something that might be wrong with my phone which i hope not because I've had no other issues with it like lines or bad pixels and I've read that this phone should be like a lighthouse at 100% brightness so i really wouldnt want to exchange it and end up getting 1 with everything else bad.... sighhhhh smh

Well buy a iphone than ;-)

thanks for being a smart ass but just to say ive been using an iphone since day 1 and had to switch when i saw this beast but this was my first n only real question about spec type or maybe mine being faulty so far about it n i get your idiotic response............

Google has a lot of white. Is the "adjust screen power " option on under display? That will dim the screen automatically under full brightness

if you disable auto dim, then the brightness can be adjusted to the same level as iphone
you don't want to see this phone at max power, it can literally Burn your eyes
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium

thank you for the real responses i had the auto dim disabled ( if you mean the auto bright not sure if you do) but didnt have the adjust screen power unchecked and now that made a huge difference way brighter WOW!!.. thanks thinking i will be leaving the screen power checked.....lol

Lol yeah at full brightness this thing Is insanely bright

haha no worries man we're all just trying to get to know our phones better Glad you're more satisfied with it now!

I always have the brightness cranked when i'm at work because I go outside for smoke breaks and I like bring able to read my phone.

There's also a browser brightness in the menu after you open up the browser

Glad you got it sorted out, but I still think the iPhones' screens are nicer. If only they came out with a 4.5 inch iPhone with Cyanogen Mod .

My gs2 is so bright I need sunglasses to look at it.

the iphone screen might look nicer because you can fit it in the cup of your hand while you squint and pinch to enlarge each web page so you can read.. my only dilemma was thinking a 2g was brighter because i didnt get to test it with my 4 before i sold it but after seeing the full brightness of this I'm waaaayyyyyyyy over it...lol

Who else here left their G2x for this phone?

I did, just wondering what screen looks better to you?
I think the G2x is a little more vivid with the colors it seems like, this phone does not seem very bright in comparison and outdoor viewing is not totally bad but better on the LG. screen size tho is a great trade off lol.
what do you think?
I think you may have gotten a bad galaxy s 2 if you think the colors on a LCD are more vivid than a s-amoled + screen

it doesn't even need to be in the max
60% is enough to make it very crispy and easily readable under direct sunlight
main reason why i would never buy another cell phone without SAMOLED+ display
I got rid of my G2x for this and I think the SGS2 has a faaaarr better screen. Haven't had a chance to use it outside much, but when I have, the brightness was fine.
damn, mine looks dull...unless there is some setting im missing? brightness wise im not impressed, the G2x IPS display is better (at least on my end it seems that way) not saying its awful but i got it cranked to full and it still seems "dull" in comparison
Far better than my G2X
ill be a hair more specific here, say looking at facebook, a white background, seems grayish dulled out, and on the G2x its like bright white, otherwise its pretty bright, it just seems as if the whites are grayish a tad, like 10-15% gray if that makes anysense?

Turn the auto brightness off and set the brightness to 35-50%.
*looks at dude with a black eye* *asks him* "damn, deebo took your bike too?"
Been out to play with it - going to get mine from amazon on the 19th if sammy's press conference doesnt pan out to a "nexus galaxy"
Miss my 3g Vibrant SOOOO much, loved the hell out of that screen - till an errant drop cracked the heck out of it, and i was left with this rebooting, GPS loosing, freezing POS.
(vibrant had plenty o' problems, but the grass is always greener isnt it.)
Wow my brightness level is always at 0% and I can see it clearly in direct sunlight no kidding. My sensation had to be at full brightness. If I turn the brightness on a 100% on the SGSII it's a like a freaking lightbulb in your face it's soo bright.
I'll be here shortly 2weeks, keeping my g2x too tho still one of the baddest, it will be my backup **** when ur getting quadrant scores of over 5300 oc to 1.5 that's the **** can't wait till the gs2 is converted to ext4 for way better quadrant scores, specifically I/o

I using the G2x and sometime the sensation for fun, yesterday I was playing with the SG2 at the Sprint store and I can tell you that G2x is the most vibrant screen color out of the the 3. I know for sure the G2x screen is better then the HTC QHD,
when I compare with the GS2 had is a tad dull.I don't why G2x has LCD and look alot better the QHD crap .
Trying to get the
Sgs 2 but its 500 since I have to buy it full retail.
Any ideas on how to get rigs of g2x for goods price
That's what she said...
I definitely switched back to samsung. I've been going hard with my new sgs2, and I'll be continuing for the next 2 weeks. Just to make sure that everything works satisfactory.

I'm thinking about it, just waiting on the Prime announcement and also keeping an eye out on development for this phone.
To the ones that have ...
Is it worth the upgrade?
I've played around with one at the store, but its not the same as owning one. And since there is a $50 restocking fee, I don't want to buy and then change my mind.
Also I'm curious as to how long it will take to update to ICS. I've also own the Vibrant and some know how that went.
....
im loving this phone, speed is nice...once root comes ill be 100% satisfied!
This phone bends the G2X over and donkey punches it. I always had to fight the urge to throw the thing out my car window.
The display on my sgs2 is amazing, bigger, IMO clearer. I just downloaded Asphalt and it plays just as smooth, if not better, as my g2x did.
GPS is amazing on the sgs2. It was an absolute fail on the g2x. This was my biggest problem with it.
So long g2x. I hope the old Asian guy I sold it too ends up smashing it.
Sent from my: T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2
I did and plan to stick with the SII. Maybe I'm just blind but the g2x screen was way too small; especially as a GPS. Also, the bugs like needing a hard restart because data would drop out 5 times a day, random reboots, and random poor reception. LG also did a terrible job supporting/updating the phone...

[Q] Galaxy S2 Tuner or the like increase screen Brightness?

As the title states.
I do believe that my Vibrant's screen was brighter than my S2. Is there any way to use software to tune the brightness above 100%?
Reason I ask, I was able to use galaxy Tuner on the Vibrant to tweak a whole lot of different settings aboveand beyond what was specified from default settings.
Any feedback/help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Turn auto brightness off and adjust the brightness yourself in settings.
If you want the full brightness also make sure you have the "auto adjust screen power" option unchecked in the display menu I thought that an older iPhone had a brighter screen too til I unchecked that along with turning off auto brightness

the SAMOLED+ screens are super bright, it can blind you
make sure to not turn it to the max unless you are outdoor under a bright sun
basically don't need to go full strength in a dark room, or poorly lid room

Exactly true. I always set the brightness to something like 5% of the full bar and it's bright enough. The screen is VERY bright...
Maybe i'm blind, I love bright! ! My vibrant is brighter. That shouldn't be the case. Any way to increase brightness above and beyond factory 100%? Thanks

There's no reason to need this screen any brighter.

i really dont understand why i would need this app ,personally my screen brightness never leaves 100 and if i could make it 125% i would ,you can adjust browser brightness in the browser settings and all you have to do is swipe across the top of your phone to lower the brightness ,dont understand how this app is useful. ipersonally think the screen could have been a little brighter .in complete darkness its gorgeous but in natural light during the day i find myself wanting it brighter .

Actually, I have the same issue. At 100% mine isn't so bright and driving in my car during the day it's quite dim yet set at 100%. so I back the OP in this issue and hope someone finds something. And those of you who insist he/she is trolling or not taking (stupid) hints, go play somewhere else. We've got a legitimate issue here and welcome anyone who can positively contribute to this thread. I'll post back if I ever find something. I remember using some app back on one of my old windows phones that did what we're looking to find so there should be something out there.

The SGS2 is just as vibrant if you unlock the Auto Brightness
heres a trick i found. turn off auto brightness. then, just barely pull down notification bar and slide right to brighten and left to dim.... this works on MOST galaxy devices... not all

Try this Test, Post your results

Ok, I have just noticed this, not sure what it means. but it's something that can be easily tested by everyone in a few minutes.
While in gentle alarm in nightmode. the screen is all black and the digital clock is shown, I noticed black lines across my screen and really black dots peppered all over the screen, mostly at the top closest to the earphone. I'm thinking they are dead pixels but not sure.
To reproduce it, I downloaded SBMX, a paint app like photoshop. I painted the canvas black, turned off the lights and after my eyes adjusted, I can see the same pattern of black pixels all over the screen. there is one line near the top of the screen that goes right across.
If some people can try this and post your results it would be very appretiated. If they are dead pixels, I will return the phone.
If they were dead pixels you would see them no matter what color the screen was.
My nexus has those spots while displaying black. My Vibrant also have the dots. Its just how amoleds are, I'm not sure about the amoled plus

It's how the screen technology is.. we had a lot of threads like this a while ago.
The conclusion was: "When are you ever going to be looking at your phone in pitch black, on a black screen, with the brightness set to 1?"
From what I have read it has something to do with Super Amoled and the glue used.
My Nexus is not near as bad as the Razr I had. Check out the Razr thread on this.
Ocassionally I would notice on my Razr when using the phone at night, without having to "look" for it.
I can honestly say that I have to try hard to see this on the Nexus, and I have never noticed it in general use, even at night. It shouldn't keep you from enjoying your phone!
edit: so much for that build quality argument they keep throwing around
lol had to say it.
I noticed this on mine in bed the other night ,it is all along one edge in landscape mode. can't see it at all in normal use though...

Galaxy nexus' screen makes me incredible dizzy :/

You might laugh but its true, i can't use my galaxy nexus while I'm on a moving car, and no I'm not the one driving, when I use it I get incredible dizzy, I wanna throw up, I'm blaming the pentile screen, I had a galaxy s ii which is super amoled plus and an inspire 4g which is super LCD and I had no troubles whatsoever, does anyone else has the same issue?

It probably has to do with you focusing on the text when you're moving, you get motion sickness. just take medicine for it
I did notice that effect when staring down at the screen with a certain pattern of floor tile in my peripheral vision.
Immediately got dizzy and no matter how much I told myself out was just a visual effect and that I don't experience this type of vertigo, ever... It continued
I've had several smart phones and other devices that should have caused this if I had this type of problem, but this is the first screen that had ever done this to me
So yes, I believe you are correct

It may be.
I personally can't watch DLP TVs or Projectors. I see very vivid flashing rainbows that make me extremely sick.
LED backlight LCD screens make me sick too. When the brightness is dimmed I start seeing the flicker from the LEDs. Hence why I've had AMOLED phones for almost 2 years.

Its because your brain thinks you're still and the liquid in your ears (forgot the word) is being moved around since you're in the car. If you look out the window then you won't feel sick.
Its motion sickness.
All of you are missing the point-obviously from his post he's had other phones and didn't experience the same issue, it's not simple motion sickness, it's somewhat device specific. Not that the Galaxy Nexus is the only device that can cause it by any means

Could be, my personal feeling is the resolution has a LOT to do with it.
That's yet another reason the Galaxy S2 is pretty much the best phone every produced to date IMO. The lower resolution looks more stunning than anything I've ever seen on a smart phone and minimizes/eliminates the problems that come with a tighter pixel density
Still love my nexus though, more than the GS2

Sometimes when I play call of duty MW3 I get dizzy when I get a text and look at my nexus cause of the pentile....
The only logical explanation for his dizziness is that he loves his gnex so much, that everytime he touches it he gets an erection, causing more blood flow to other parts than the brain
Yeah I found the screen a little to look at coming from a super LCD device as well. Didn't make me sick just the samoled has a funny hue to it. I'm hoping the next nexus will be super ips, the one x has an amazing screen it's just a shame about the software.

You should see your doctor.Dont forget to take your phone with you as this will help in your diagnosis
Ya I can't do anything on my phone while in a car or on a boat. I get nausea and such. I've always been like that with phones though.

I wouldn't blame it on the pen tile. You have to realise that this is a 720dpi screen compared to the sgs2 with a lower Res screen. The additional sharpness leads to slow slightly smaller font and the clarity makes your eyes focus on words and pictures more.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'm afraid its bad news..... you caught eye aids from your phone and the prognosis isn't good.
Within 6 months you'll have full blown nexitis and maybe 6 months after that you will have to have your eyes replaced with two 5mp sensors from a gnex (irony) due to the eye aids.
In all seriousness tho there isn't much you can do, changing the gamma settings or a dev changing the frame rate or something like that may help you.
Other than that your only option is to not look at your phone when you're using it.

Lower screen brightness with Screen Filter

The display hurts my eyes when I woke up in the middle of the night, even at the lowest brightness.
I found an app called Screen Filter that lowers the brightness even further. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5oYXhvciJd
Does anyone know if this is safe to use? Will it harm the AMOLED display at all?
It's funny, the lowest brightness is too bright for me when I need it, and the highest brightness is too dim for me when I need it.
I use Screen Filter on my original Galaxy S, and it works great.
I've never had an issue with it.

Exactly my experience too. I love AMOLED's, but would it kill them to work on incorporating some Pixel Q technology. And really how hard can it be to just widen the range of brightness to capture the movie theater low if a stupid free app can do it?
There should be a huge range and we should be able to select the lowest and highest. Then let auto-bright take care of the rest. Or maybe even should have the ability to calibrate the auto-bright since a 20yr old's eye sees about double the amount of light of a 60yr old's eye...

Thanks for sharing that. There are some apps that totally change the user experience. This seems like it will be one of them based on initial use. Too bad Samsung didn't calibrate this better out of the box.
