I'm due for an upgrade in the near future but unfortunately the Galaxy Nexus has already been around for a while. I don't want to end up with another Dinc situation where I get mine a year late, all the good devs leave and we have little support left.
So do you think (Opinions here people) this phone will still be worth getting when I upgrade or should I go with the next big thing?
A new nexus should be coming out by the end of the year, so my answer would be no.

Depends on the price. This phone is still a nexus and will get the next Android version. The specs for the GN are more than sufficient over the long haul.
Last years nexus has a more up to date version than my current Nexus.

Yeah we will be impatiently awaiting the next nexus. But on the other hand this is a good phone and will serve a lot of people well for a 2 + year life span.

I had my Nexus in hand by November last year so I'd say no do not buy the current one.
The phone is still awesome..... Get it!

If you can afford better then there will be better available by November... in fact there will be better available in a few weeks time when the galaxy s3 comes out.. you won't have to wait until November to find something better than the gnex

Last Nov, the Nexus S was still around $400 on Amazon (still same price even today ). Hardware wise, this GN will be in better shape comes this Nov than the Nexus S was last Nov.
When the new Nexus comes out, it'll be in $650-700 range again (unless Google decides then to also sell the new Nexus at $399), so this current one at $400 is still a great deal.
Come November I would get the new Nexus.
As others have said... we'll see the next Nexus device in November. Galaxy Nexus will be cheap and still good (enough) though.
The phone will be a year old. Wait for a more recent release.
I think Google needs to stick with imagination technologies gpu's. For lots of reasons, including an apple one.

This phone will be fine by November. Plus, if rumors are correct we won't see a Nexus phone this year, but rather the Nexus tablet. Jelly Bean is said to have "game changing tablet optimizations".

I would wait for the next Nexus. The GNexus will still be a good phone but is kind of sad to see your device outdated one month after you bought it.

So? N1 has ICS. Unnoficial, but still. Nexus Prime will most def have future versions of the OS.
You people gotta be rich or something, changing phones like that.

Nexus 4 will potentially be released around Dec./Jan. so Id hold off. By then the GNex will have dwindled down to Tier 2 hardware.
I have Nexus S and software speaking GNex and NS are almost the same, ignoring the few advantages GNex has because of the hardware.
My sister got Galaxy S3 few days ago and now I want a new phone as well lol. Since I'm gonna dump a $***load of money, and I much more prefer Nexus dev phone rather than TouchWiz or anything manufacturer related, should I wait for the next quad core (and better camera, since that 2 things are bugging me about GNex) or buy this one.
I know how having a Nexus rocks, all the roms, tweaks, ports available for my Nexus S are just awesome, so I can imagine what to expect for this one or the future one!
I'm asking this because you guys have it and know it.
I almost ended up buying Note but stores jacked the price here, so no... currently GNex HSPA+ is around 300€ - 350€ here, unlocked. Thanks!

People need to stop obsessing over quad cores especially when the newer dual cores are on par with them.
Because I can, and I was bored.

I guess that's the cool thing about a Nexus phone, even when the next one comes out, this one will still be relevant.
It's not like the jump from dual core to quad will be as significant IMO as single to dual.
Such as the GNex can and will leave the N1 and Nexus S in the dust in the following years, the next Nexus will take much longer to leave the GNex in the dust.
Clearly under par GPU on nexus ...wait for the next one and hope its better! Then buy it
Note that the price of the new Nexus could be twice as much compared to the current price of Galaxy Nexus.
But if money is not a problem, buy this, then buy the next Nexus when it comes out
Just wait it out. As good as the GN is, it's not that big of a jump from your current phone.

You mean like a new nexus phone?
Yes sir.
Rumors running around the internet are that google will release 5 Nexus devices each from different manufacturers.
For example, one from Samsung, another from HTC, etc.
I want to know if google said anything about this during the Google I/O yesterday.

Not sure if they said something about 5 new phones, but they said, they are trying to fix the android version fragmentation problem.
Nope, wasn't mentioned. We'll most likely hear about it later in the year

I was hoping for an announcement too. Also when the price of the Galaxy Nexus was brought down to 350$ I was expecting something.
My old N1 is dying on me! Need a new Nexus phone!
The rumor was up to 5 Nexus "Devices", not necessarily phones.
They already have the Nexus 7 and Nexus Q, and if you include the Galaxy Nexus, that's 3 Nexus "Devices" that they are selling through the Play Store.

Good point! Wait for 2 more devices! Hoping for a phone! or even a Nexus 10!
Personally I hope they stick with the 1/year strategy. Makes them feel more special. Having multiple Nexuses (Nexii?) makes it seem like they're gonna go the Galaxy route and literally slap the Nexus name on anything that connects to facebook
Unlimited nexus
How about nexus certified. You get stock rom alternative for these devices and faster update?

Most probably they'll go the Apple route. A tablet and a phone alternating every 6 months, with one major version upgrade a year.
So we'll probably get a new Nexus phone on 4.2+ Jellybean this late fall/winter and one or two other Nexus devices
Simple yes/no poll to see how many people would be purchasing the successor to the Galaxy Nexus if it comes out (again) without an SD card slot. So far I don't believe any Nexus device has ever supported external storage (I may be wrong) so the next version probably won't either.
Personally I love my Nexus but the lack of storage (13GB) has really hindered my day to day use, there is no unlimited data where I live and it is really expensive. Most of my movies/series are 720p so take up a lot of space.
If there's no SD card slot on the new Nexus, I'll probably get an S3 and flash CM10 on it.. best of both worlds
I'd be fine if it had a min of 32gb

Guys as far as I know nexus device comes with new major software release
Nexus 7 -. Jelly bean
Galaxy Nexus - ice cream sandwich
Xoom - honeycomb
Gingerbread - nexus s
Froyo - nexus
Why would you expect another nexus device this year? It's very unlikely something will emerge. I'm guessing new nexus will come out with android 4.2 (5?) next year. And to be honest it's a really good turnaround. 2yrs its just for the time for contract to finish for those who bought it that way.
It's still great device. If you want performance device to play games etc buy s3 if you want constant updates on time and have similar experience to apple devices stay with this one

What he said. Also there are very few if not no rumors about a new nexus. At this time last year rumors were running wild. Maybe Google got better at keeping it a secret but I have a feeling there may not be a nexus phone released this fall.

We already know the next Nexus will not have a micro-SD slot unless Google reverses course.
I'm starting to doubt we will be seeing any nexi in the wild this year
I'll still get the next nexus without an ext SD. So far I haven't used up my phone with 16gb. Only reason I wanna get a new nexus will be die to the ****ty reception on the galaxy nexus. And I have changed and tried all the different radios and rils.
Other than that the ROM development for Nexus phones is phenomenal. Galaxy Nexus is the first Nexus for me and swear I cannot go back to OEM phones now.

honeycomb was for tablets only, hardly counts imo..
I like the idea of one block of storage, as long as it's large enough to be practical. I don't think 16GB will cut it next go around. Granted, I've only used 9GB of my 32, but it sounds like the majority needs more.
It honestly doesn't bother me that there is no micro SD slot. I hardly keep any files on my phone except for music and not very much at that. 16gb is more than enough storage for me.
Also what everyone else is saying, I Dont think there will be another nexus device this year.

Hey guys,
I am looking at getting a new phone and my requirements were:
1GB RAM
4.3+ inch screen
720p display.
The Galaxy Nexus caught my eye as it has all those things. I don't have a huge budget (£150, or €175, $225)But I am slightly concerned. Firstly because it is an old piece of kit. Now, that doesn't bother me if it performs well and gets the latest updates, but that's what I am worried about. Secondly because of Dev Support. I need a phone that will be supported for at least a year.
Please tell me what I should do. I am willing to buy a used device. If you think I should get something else, please let me know as to what device you are thinking.
Thanks!
Don't buy this phone.

Extend your budget go for a Nexus 4 or maybe wait for the next Nexus. Galaxy Nexus is a great phone but let's face it, it's been around for a while... And I doubt if it'll get official updates for the coming year
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If you want it, then buy an extended battery with it and IMHO one should also buy the charging port flex board which may stop working anytime.
Whether or not it gets official updates, it will receive the custom ROMs. But then again why would you go for a 2 year old product?
Get the n4 or the n5 when it releases
Get the s4 or wait for new nexus at end of year.

Go for nexus 4.....though I'm not saying that Galaxy Nexus is not good, but it has now become somewhat old and won't get support from Google as Nexus 4 will get. Though you always will have support from the custom ROMs....but not stock ROM from Google itself.....so go for Nexus 4 rather than GN.

The n4 is old as well, considering the new nexus will be out in a few months, the n4 has been a blunder from day one an forgotten about due to its terrible launch an unavailability, so people just decided to boycott it an skip it altogether, lg have even said themselves it wasn't on the list of priorities to get that phone out, I don't think google would bother asking lg a second time to make another nexus with that kind of poor effort or attitude.

So here I am.
I have been watching a load of videos comparing it to Samsung flagships, HTC flagships and some weird devices made by a fruit company. The hardware has EVERYTHING I want for my upgrade. Almost double every spec to my current phone. My only concern is updates. Does this device have 4.2.2 Officially? Will there be 4.3 and 5.0 for it unofficially, if not officially? I need it to last for a year.
If you can answer my questions, I will be extremely grateful. My other option is the Xperia S, but it costs too much, bigger camera then I need and no official 4.1
Thanks Again!
Android 4.2.2 is officialy suported on the galaxy nexus and 4.3 will normally be that too but for 5.0 nobody knows.
And yeah I love the phone and it's getting old but it is still a good phone

If you don't need the good cam, HDMI and so on, go for a GNex. As far as dev support's concerned there's no need to be worried, even the Google Nexus S (maybe the WFS too?) will get Android 5 (unofficially).
