[Q] Cant Partition SD card - HTC Wildfire S

Guys please help. i have a rooted Wildfire S, and like everyone else am getting the low memory issues. So i am trying to partition my SD card so i can use link2sd. However, i keep getting an error message that my SD card cant be partitioned and that i will need to delete the previous partitions on the SD card.
pls help

Download Minitool and try to create a partion with it .

If you had rooted your WFs, then Install Rom Manager from Play Store, update the recovery ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.8 and use the Partition SD option..

Wrong section for this btw...

In minitool Partition wizard. In the top tab find your SD card. Right click on some empty space in that area only, select delete all partitions.
Now create a FAT32 partition (Whatever size u want) Primary.
Then again create a ext4 partition, Primary again..
Hit apply.
Good luck

Help with sd ext partitioning

Ok so this all started when I switched from Cyanogen to Fresh 3.2. I used Amon Ra's Recovery to wipe and because it said to so a full wipe I figured I had to wipe evey option on Amon Ra's Recovery including sd ext. When I did That I got and error that said "Error: run "wipe ext" from abd!". I read somewhere that that wasn't going to be a problem so I continued loading the rom and it booted fine. I ran into problems later on when I tried installing Backbreakers. I got an error in the notification bar that said "installation unsuccessful". I later got the same message when trying to install Angry Birds. I've learned from other threads that those games should work fine on Fresh's roms. I now have the newest Fresh rom and still have the same problem. Just recently I found out that I shouldn't have wiped sd ext partition if I didn't have one setup. Now, I never set one up myself, but maybe one was setup automatically through one of the roms I had used. Now I want to fix the problem with my Sd ext partition (I know I'm not using The term correctly because I no nothing about it) and find out what it does. If anyone could help me understand what an sd ext partition is and how to solve my problem I would be very thankful.

You can set it up in Ra recovery. It's very easy. Make sure you back up your sd card to your computer cuz partitioning will wipe it.
Download DarkTremor from HERE
Select Partition SD card from the recovery menu
The first option is for a swap file which we dont really need so set it to 0MB
The next is for your ext partition. 256MB should be plenty but if you've got a large SD card feel free to go higher.
After that's done, you can upgrade it from ext2 to ext3 which isnt necessary.
Boot up the phone or mount sd card from recovery and place the DarkTremor file you downloaded on your sd card and flash as you would a rom.
After the phone boots up you can open a Terminal Emulator and type:
su (then press enter)
You should see a # symbol. Now type:
a2sd cachesd
This will move dalvik cache to your sd card and free up even more memory. Just remember to wipe ext partition before flashing a new rom and I believe you'll need to flash the DarkTremor file again after you flash a new rom. Your ext partition will remain. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions most can be answered in the DarkTremor thread or feel free to PM me.
Wow thanks for the great info. I'm going to do this hopefully it will fix my problem. What is an sd partition for anyways or what does it do? I have the 6gb sd card that came with my evo goe much space should I put for my ext partition? Thanks for all of the help.

The ext partition is a physical memory area in your sd card which is formated the same as the internal memory of the phone. Not like the rest of the sdcard. The limits are set on the rest of the card so the stuff in the ext with it's sequential byte order won't be over-written by the pc-like low-high byte order of the rest. Stuff can be logically assigned to the ext partition by the OS. At startup a find is issued on the partition, if it's there then automatically Fresh's / tremor's ap2sd "program" puts portions of applications on the sdcard. You can manually augment what gets put into the ext partition by issuing commands. Aps2sd was important on devices with limited internal memory.

Forgot to mention, its recommended you use a class 4 SD card or faster. I'm not certain what the consequences are but when I ran a2sd on my G1 with a class 2, the phone would crash.

[Q] How to remove sd-ext?

I'm using recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5 to create my partition 2Gb and with wipe 32.
now i going to change my sd card. so i plan to remove the partition in the previous sd card. in clockwork i cant find 0kb in create partition section.
is there any idea to delete the partition in sd card???
You could use a partition program that recognizes EXT to remove it, such as gparted I'm sure.
Or, you could switch over to amon-ra recovery and overwrite your partition with 0MB size.
Well for completely removing the partiton, you need to use a partition manager.
GParted as suggested or Easus.
Repartition the card using Amon Ra and select 0mb for swap, 0mb for ext and use the full card's size for fat32.
Put the card in a card reader and format it.
hi there, do u use Easus before?
i using Easus, but the problem is why it can't detect the ext part of my sd-card?
Maybe you have ext4. Easeus says:
Linux partition management: delete, create, format, recover EXT2/EXT3 partition

Use gparted to get ur sdcard back to what it was originally.....simple....

Try Minitool partition Wizard if you are a windows user or Gparted if you are a Linux user .....
U can use Gparted boot cd if u are a win user, and put the UNPACKED zip file in the root of the FAT32 partition.
I've seen many people, including me , unpacking the rom and not finding it using recovery...
Thanks both of u. Finally I used the minitools partition wizard to fix the partition problem.
However, I unpacked the ROM in FAT32 partition n I can't find the files in "install zip from sdcard". How to fix it? and I can only find below frm "choose zip from sdcard" :
- Android/
- LOST.DIR/
Thanks!!

pls i need help
Hi did you try redo it with gparted? or flash better recovery to setup partitions on your sd card... some rom are not showing all space from ext partition... BTW why you have swap? instruction saying 0 MB for swap
Its working correctly, the 183Mb free space will decrease slowly but it is using the 2Gb ext partition for app storage. Also, you don't need a swap partition. My advice is to start again, either do a backup, repartition your SD card with 1Gb ext and 0 swap and then restore or just do the partitioning and flash the ROM from scratch.

Need help setting up Link2SD

Hey, so I've rooted my phone, installed CWM. Now I'm kinda confused how to install Link2SD.
I've a 16 GB SD card with me. All I need to do is, boot into recovery and then partition the SD card?
Do I need to do anything else?
Also, What's that swap memory? (The option which comes after selecting the partition size) What should I choose in that part? I read somewhere that I should choose 32/64 MB only..
I'm using HTC Wildfire S A510e with the latest update having Gingerbread 2.3.5
Thanks
Well partition your SDcard and create two primary partitions. Format the second partion as ext4 and use tune2fs to disable journalling.
Install Link2SD configure it and select ext4 as the second partition. It will automatically mount it then.
I'm still trying to contact the developer to mount without barriers and atime to get better performance.
i used minitool partition wizard on my pc to do it, but i think you can through CWM as well. i originally tried making the 2nd partition FAT32, but my l2sd didnt recognize it, so i redone it in sdext2. on my wifes wildfire s i tried ext2 first, and ended up having to change it to FAT32. theoretically you should be able to use the partitioning on CWM and get l2sd to work, but if it doesnt detect your second partition then just try different formats if you can. minitool is a free program if you need it, and is available with a simple google search. there are also several other threads about l2sd all around xda and the net, so if you get stuck just search them up. once partitioned, go into l2sd and press the menu button and select more, then create mount scripts. this will get it running, and also will show if there are any issues with your partition.
