Hardware.

It's not a hardware issue. Haha. The phone just isn't made to run on those networks.

I'm trying to determine whether my model is the LTE or GSM version.
Thank you very much!
Happy new year
Unless it's Verizon, it's GSM

That is because it is called 3g.
You want to check 2g under mobile network settings.

HSPA+ is an enhanced form of 3g. If you check to use 2g, that is what AT&T calls Edge service.

ok...thanks!...
Lol the 9250 doesn't have a 4g modem even though t-mobile & at&t market HSPA+ as 4G. 3G and HSPA are the same tech.

Hello guys. Is there any way to have in the mobile settings an option for LTE Only? It just have WCDMA and GSM only together with Automatic. I want just LTE when using data. TIA. This phone is an awesome device!!!

Nexus 4 has the hybrid radio because it supports LTE Band 4 by nature, even if it's sold as a non-LTE phone. Galaxy Nexus GSM version only supports 21Mbps HSPA+ at most, and Verizon and Sprint's variants aren't compatible with GSM by nature. Give it up.
