Any way to "un-flash" a kernel? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would it at all be possible to go back to stock kernel without having to flash an .FTF? It would lose the unlocked bootloader if I were to flash an .FTF, right? CDMA, so it's a pain to unlock it again. (Would I have to pay again? Hrm...)
Edit:
Or is it unlocked forever, regardless of what I do, once it's unlocked?

Once you unlock, it's unlocked until you choose to relock when using flashtool.
You may use flashtool and an SE .ftf firmware to "un-flash" back to stock kernel.
While at the same time keeping the unlock state.
As you will only relock your phone when you press the relock button before you start flashing.
So NO Worries; just flash it. And also, to save time, you can choose to flash only the kernel when using the tool.

If you unlocked your bootloader via a paid testpoint method then it cannot be relocked, regardless of whether you flash an FTF via fashtool.
To my understanding it is possible to extract the just the kenel.sin from an FTF file and flash it via fastboot or flashtool.
I will look it up for you then let you know.
Edit: Stock Kernels can be flashed, with the command: fastboot flash boot kernel.sin
Make sure you place the kernel.sin in the fastboot directory of your AndroidSDK

[Q] Question about FTF flashing.... small

It has been a while since I flashed the stock FTF file for 2.3.3 R800x... and I cannot remember if I have to relock my bootloader prior to doing so. Do I need to re-lock it before I reflash the FTF or is it safe to just flash away?
Flash away. You can't relock the bootloader on the testpoint unlock, anyway.
I can relock my bootloader just fine. Done it before. So its okay to flash on unlock bootloader..... good. Thank you.

[Q] rerooting after OTA update, cdma htc one v

Hi,
I need help. I did an ota update from htc to improve battery performance on my rooted phone. Now the phone is not rooted anymore. I'm still on stock ics rom, how do I reroot the phone again? Do I just follow the same procedures when I rooted it the first time? Thanks in advance for any help.
Performing the OTA update will cause boot loops with most of the custom roms such as CM10 and AOKP. To successfully run a custom rom you should revert to an older RUU then reroot the phone and choose the custom rom of your choice. Here is a link to the older RUU you need to be able to run most of the custom roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094373
if you have relocked the bootloader,u have to unlock it again.for this, place the Unlock_code.bin file u received from htc for unlocking ur bootloader the first time in the fastboot folder.(or the platform-tools folder, whichever u have).then boot into bootloader and go to fastboot.then connect phone to pc.then just flash the token using-
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
select yes on ur screen,ur bootloader is now unlocked.
now flash a custom recovery by placing the recovery_name.img in the fastboot/platform-tools folder and flash it using-
fastboot flash recovery recovery_name.img
once recovery is flashed, flash this zip in recovery-

I'm still on the ROM the phone came with. I did not install any custom ROM after I rooted it first time. Do I reroot by doing the same procedures like I did the first time? i.e. unlock bootloader through HTC dev and use primo superboot to root.

I did not flash any custom ROM after it was rooted the first time. The phone is still on the original ROM it came with. Do I just need to unlock and use primo superboot to root again?

Not sure what I am doing wrong

I unlocked my bootloader using Omnius but when I FASTBOOT flash a kernel I get stuck in a boot loop. I can flash back to stock kernels fine and access cwm. Am I missing a step? I have followed a lot of guides but most seem a bit out of date. How can I check that my boot loader is defiantly unlocked? Also, in-case I am being to impatient is it normal to wait 30 minutes for the first boot?
If you use flash tool for enter in fastboot?
Fastboot flash boot boot.img, check you're doing it correctly.

If you don't know, what you are doing, you shouldn't be doing it at all.
Sent from LT18i with custom firmware by myself.
Just use the common way, like flashtool...
Oh and if custom kernel gets flashed without errors, then your bootloader is unlocked. If bootloader would be locked, kernel flashing would give an error.

[Q] Need files for relocking bootloader

I'm going to sell my Xperia S and I need to relock the bootloader to flash back to stock (I insist on relocking it)
But most of the relocking bootloader tutorial threads (like this -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159 ) is quite old and the download links has been dead.
If anyone could provide an alternate download link or point me to another way of relocking the bootloader that would be appreciated

Hi,
I have attached the relocking ftf file from the above mentioned thread. Once you download the attached zip file, extract it to get the relocking ftf file. I have used this ftf file around 3-4 times on my XS and it works perfectly

[Q] Downgrade to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean!

Hey, i decided to downgrade my xperia m (C1905) back to 4.1.2 using Flashtool. However my device is not allowed to unlock the bootloader so when i connect the phone in fastboot mode Flashtool says to unlock the bootloader of the phone. But I cannot do that since it is impossible to unlock. My phone is locked to a career/network branded. So it seems i cannot use the Flashtool to downgrade the phone. Is there another way to downgrade the phone?
You don't need fastboot mode for downgrade, flashmode is enough. Just flash .ftf of 4.1.2.
Thanx for the info. I downgraded via Flash mode. It was successful.
