New to Wildfire S - HTC Wildfire S

I don't have this phone. My friend owns one. He's asking me to update his device to Android 4.0 unofficially.
I have some questions :-
1) Which is the best method to root this via stock?
2) Which is the most stable ICS ROM? Any major/minor bugs?
3) Please link me to a thread that gives instructions on how to install recovery and other procedure for installing ROMs on this device.
4) Is there any way to return back to stock if I accidentally soft brick it or make some mistake?
PS : I have quite of experience in rooting, flashing ROMs and other stuff.
Thanks in advance

So steps to GB ROM:
1. Root the device - *done*
via z4root as superoneclick doesn't work.
How to root
Where to get z4root
Please note the temporary root on z4 doesn't appear to work but the perm root does work (this per the got root?) application.
2. Make a ROM back up - *done*
Progress Notes:
Clockworkmod *DOES* support p1010 development thread / info link
Please consider making a donation to Skin1980 for his hard work in porting CWM to this device.
He is still working on EXT4 support for our device to increase the speed so donations will help you help him
*** EDIT *** Please read the development thread in step 2 for a Ginger Bread ROM for the p1010 - yes it is European ROM but reports indicate it is working in multiple US devices.
3. Confirm the backup/restore procedure works and post the stock rom in progress
4. Determine / address boot loader situation *Appears to be unsigned*
5. Edit Samsung GB ROM (Euro or otherwise) to have root and/or customizations.

This one will prove the trickiest I guess, since there are no official GB roms. It would be great though, this would open up the door too to Honeycomb or even ICS!!
The good news is that as far as I can tell bootloaders are unsigned!
if you build Rom, thank all of you bro
Let's try to do gingerbread? I can be the tester, i have all stock firmwares and stock kernel. And i know some things about it.
Awesome! Will be watching this thread with anticipation!
I have both the p1000 (mine) and p1010 (wifes).
Mine is rooted and custom rom but have been eagerly awaiting root and roms for the p1010.
Stock Gingerbread Rom available for p1010
Just in case you haven't seen, today the above rom was put on sammobile.com, and skin1980 has a cf-root for it, I have it installed and its a bit of an improvement, Enjoy and ill be following your progress, be it custom ginger or hc,

overcome rom porting to p1010
I am just thanking, can we port overcome rom to p1010.
Is there someone can flash custom rom via cwm? I have tried many times, it 's not work. If anyone can do it, please share your ideas!

Due to a gingerbread update being released and me getting an ipad2 over the holidays, I have personally stopped work on this project. However, if you read the other threads you can see team mad is working on getting CM7 and possibly higher working on the p1010. Given the common hardware and existing GB update this is a realistic goal.
Goodbye and good luck from the dark side (IOS).

[Q] How to restore stock rom after flash with Vanilla?

Hello,
I know very well on iphone but completely newbie to Android stuffs
I would like to flash a vanilla rom on my HTC X and i also want to ensure I able to flash back my stock rom when I am bore with it.
Would be very much appreciate if anyone able to show some guide.
help
have you unlocked your bootloader and installed recovery?
No, it completely new as just a week old.
Everything still in stock except few apps installed.
You need to go to HTC Dev website and unlock your bootloader first. HTC one x will not be listed, so you will have to use "other supported models" Follow the instructions to unlock your bootloader. Remember, doing this will void your warranty. Once you've unlocked the bootloader, i will guide you installing recovery and help you flashing a ROM.
there are not currently any vanilla (AOSP) roms, except a themed one i believe.
I too am waiting for an AOSP rom (CM9 should be the one) however for sense based roms Android Revolution & Insert Coin One X are both very good roms by some awesome Devs
Hi mgf8384,
Thanks but temporary i will stick with stock.
I have a ROM by Jdroid Its version 2.5.4. Its about as Vanilla as you can get. Its pretty much like stock Ice Cream Sammich thats on the Galaxy Nexus. Much better than Sense. Hopefully this will help.
Cm9 is out for hox and its pretty good its all vanilla no sense at all ) only wifi tethering doesn't work.. do you want me to give you full instructions how to get there from stock and have a back up of stock too ?

(I am Brazillian, sorry by my English)
There you have the oficial CyanogenMod 7 rom support, instalation and development issues support.
In my opinion it is the best 2.3 alternative rom for p350.
The steps i know only in portuguese, but i believe i will find it in this link too.
The factory installed apps, the most one you will install with a Google package inside this link too.
The others you can download again on play store.
following a different guide i was trying to install CM Invasion V2 ROM.. i never got to the flashing ROM part... i was backing up the current ROM unsing ROM manager and my cell fone bricked... after banging my head... looking for solutions on the net and again banging my head... i finally was able to revive my cell fone (using kdz updater)... all this is a risky business
can anyone give me a near perfect guide for flashing ROM without using ROM manager.. please..
You'll have to flash a custom recovery first. Amonra is very stable. Then you can make a nandroid backup of your current rom from the recovery for you to go back to. Flash the rom you like and enjoy. If you need to do back to your original rom, just restore back from your nandroid backup

now flash recovery by going on thread then do steps
for flashing roms do following steps on recovery
1.creat nandroid backup only once not for everytime you flash
2.then go in wipe section and wipe all data
3.then go to flash zip manu and find rom then flash
4.sometimes some rom needs advanced steps for flashing like cm 7 official needs to format/system(steps for it it mentioned by the developer on his thread)
done reboot then enjoy flashing.
hope this will help you...........................
in future do not install recovery from rom manager it will brick your phone untill it gets perfect for our device
Remember we have a wiki page for this phone with an all-in-one guide for modifying it (rooting, recovery, custom rom installation, troubleshooting). I try to keep it updated, nice and clean (kinda hard some times).
About Android versions: The Optimus ME comes with Froyo (2.2) there is no other official firmware for it. CyanogenMod 7 is based on Gingerbread (2.3) which now has official support and is working pretty good now (yes, previous versions were slow, buggy but now they're pretty stable)... Honeycomb (3.0) is only for tablets, so it's not coming to P350. CyanogenMod 9 is based on Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0), which for this device is still a work in progress, so don't expect a timeline nor a soon release. CyanogenMod 10 based on Jelly Bean (4.1) is still a myth for the P350...
I hope to have answered your questions...

MIUI ROM issues

Upon finally achieving s-off on my phone, one of the ROMs I've wanted to run was tge MIUI. well it worked on the first try after rooting but boot looped when i had to reboot it. Reflashed it again and it happened again. Can anyone help?
Sent from my rooted incredible 2
Which version of MIUI is it?
I just had this same problem with ICS] Unofficial Multilang MIUI4 - v 2.12.21 Rom
I realized that i was still using the way outdated radio which my phone bootlooped as soon as MIUI tried to load it.
alot of these newer ICS/JB roms require you to update to the new ICS radio 1.09.01.0320
I installed the new radio and it works great! I can reboot all i want.
I used this one on Team venoms Roms thread

[Q] Time to Root for Custom ROM - Atlast!

Hi,
Since there is already a confirmation that the HOX and HOX+ will have no more updates in the future, I guess it is time for me to root and install custom rom again. I've been away for this rooting and installing custom rom since the days of my HTC Desire. I also did the same for the desire (wait for the final days of update then root it for custom roms).
Can somebody guide me on rooting my phone and everything.
I'm planning to:
Use windroid to unlock bootloader, install custom recovery and root. (Please correct me if i still missed something).
Also, I need some advise of which kitkat roms is recommended for daily use. I saw the CM11 thread and found out that the known bugs will affect my day to day use. Can somebody advise any other KitKat roms?
Thanks!
I say : read the stickies on how to setup fastboot and adb, and flash via manual commands. Roms....we won't compare them, forbidden on xda. Read the OP's of the roms and the thread about bugs/flaws. Make a choice and test.
Cheers.
I think i'm already done installing adb drivers and ready to unlock boot loader and root. Maybe i just need some recommendation for anyone who tested kitkat roms. Thanks anyway!
Can't help you there, i am always on sense roms. If you have questions about rooting and flashing roms issues you can always PM me. No problem
If you want to use a complete stable ROM don't go higher then 4.3.1 ...cm10.2 and the other 4.3.1 Roms are stable...and sense Roms are the most stable Roms out here for us...ATM kitkat has some problems which you don't know and don't know how to fix...so it will be better to use sense 5rom or the Roms with android 4.3.1 if you have other questions about KitKat pm me...I'm using since a few days and could answer some questions
