[MOD]Working! DSP Manager for CM9 w/ Beats Audio! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I found this thread and though i would share it, so far its working great and i can really tell the difference.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732763

It's got beats? Definitely not for me then

my experience was not so good on aokp build 40. this is what i posted in that thread after flashing awesome beats...
IMPORTANT i flashed awesome beats but i found out it broke my bluetooth foward and back buttons on my sony mw600 using spotify, exfm, and a couple other music apps as well as the 'long press on volume buttons to skip track' mod on some music apps, but not all. wiped cache and reflashed aokp and they all work again. i guess beats does hurt bluetooth to some degree. just FYI that was my experience.

HTC desire sound quality

Hey guys, I don't know whether ur scared of the topic but no one has found ways to better the sound quality of the phone . Everyone is able to port stuff and create roms but never anything about sound improvement like porting dolby from other android mobile.

Nothing wrong with my Desire, I can make calls just fine thank you!!
I reckon people with issues with the volume are the ones that will suffer from deafness early in life as they probably crank up the volume on all devices
i didnt mean voice calls, i meant when playing music through the ear phones. before u say get better headphones, i got senheissers cx400s. the sound quality is rubbish at best. my n95 and n73 both played music better than the htc phone with the same headphones.
I got to agree on the sound quality issue. The music is just too flat on desire.
I am reconsidering galaxy s and iphone4 due to this...
Hopefully someone can port a better music player or fix the issue soon...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Surely its a hardware limitation.
Aside from putting a better dac in the device (probably impossible) what can be done about sound quality? I don't get how a better music player could help.
You can try with DSP Manager... included in some modded rom... like mine...
music is fine on mine (dsp manager + Sennheiser CX 400 II's)
it was rubbish compared to my ipod shuffle using the same headphones, before using dsp manager
I use mixzing player with equalizer with a custom preset for better quality.
What's dsp manager? How to use it?
yeah what is the dsp manager ive been hearing about

DSP manager is an equalizer built into the ROM. It can have seperate settings for phone speaker, bluetooth and headphones. I used to to take some of the tinniness out of phone speaker. It's in CM6, and probably a lot of other roms too.

Does anybody know if this could be flashed onto "OpenDesire 4.0.2"?
As I know OD is based on Cyanogen...
Thank you
hey guys, just wanted to know if the dsp manager is anything like the equalizers on mixzing or other music apps for android

Don't know if this can be flashed to OD, but OD is not based on Cyanogen, it is a build from Android source.
DSP manager is brilliant. The compressor pops a bit too much for my liking though.

It's not working for me...
hey guys just wanted to ask if the equalizer is better than the ones found on music apps on market place like mixzing, astro player, etc
Just to let you know...I've flashed it onto OpenDesire 4.04 and it works...
You need the DSP Manager apk, too.
I took the one from this Post: http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7999377&postcount=6
Thanks =)
Thru loud speaker, Desire wasn't really that good. But thru headsets with Mixzing, is quite good.
completely agree. speakers on the phone are horrible. i think im gonna invest in a new pair of earphones. hope i dont get any compatibility issues which bug other users

Best from for listening to music??

Anyone know of any roms that are good for listening to music? I don't mind if its gb or ics... just need a good listening experience as I will be on a long journey tomorrow! Thanks

Any if them. Power amp is a great app for music, I like it a lot.

It's not the rom that made sound quality, but the phone and the headset. What do you use as earphone ?
Get any sense 3.5 rom, make sure it has beats plugin in the stock music player. Choose srs enhancement and play the song...nothing can beat that quality.

So true. Rom or music player won't do anything much, except for some which have dspmod in it. The point is a good headset is the key for a good music. Plus an amp if you could afford one. :hehe:
if you have a long journey than sure you need better battery life install cm7 and with power amo or player pro or winamp or even the stock one with dsp manager should work fine
Thanks for all the posts guys! Know beats aren't loved here but I've got a pair of studios (I got them cheap off a friend not stupid enough to pay more than they are worth). I went with a sense 3.5 rom in the end with power amp and it was great! The only thing is...on quite a few roms, I experience this annoying thing!! Sometimes while listening to music...I'll unlock the screen and this weird noise interrupts the song...sometimes it happens when I lock the phone aswell. Its not the headphones coz it happens with all my headphones :/ I thought it may be rom related but its not

dig into the advance audio engine settings of poweramp. increase the buffer size to 750ms. should make that go away.

Trying that now...will report back although I've switched to primo s sense 4.0 Rom and the problem seems to be gone :/

Try different Sense 3.5 Rom if you are enabling beats audio. I've noticed that each some Roms don't give the fill Beats experience. It also could just be me. Also flash the xperia xLoud engine found on the Rom that combines rc mix and virtuous. I can't post links cause I'm considered a new member. I find that funny since I have been using this site for 1.5 years yet never signed up till now.
I'm on a sense 4.0 Rom and the problem seems to be gone been on this Rom for 2 days now and haven't experienced the problem! I know what Rom ur talking about....from xxxpachaxxx. That's the Rom I just switched from because of the problem

Finally on the 3.5 Rom you were talking about I didn't have any fuzziness but I did experience increased battery drainage while listening to music compared to other Roms.

power amp
i have tested a lot of music apps on a few phones and need to say that first of all the phone is responsible for the sound quality. Off course the headset is important parallelly ( i use denons plugs which i think are good enough). There is no doubt though that players quality differs. In my opinion power amp is the best ever app to play music on the android phone. You can adjust the sound as much as possible. PLayer pro seems to be good too but there is a kind of whisle noise in the background playing continously and it's disqualifying the app completelly. Other apps are not worth even trying
Amazon MP3?
I know some groan at the thought, but Amazon MP3 is also pretty decent. It's got a built-in EQ with some preset settings, and if you buy music from them at all, it's nice because it will interface directly with your Cloud account. You could d/l a bunch of stuff from your Cloud to your phone (if you have the room) before you go on your journey.
It's not the only music app I use, but it's not bad.

Eq manager working with jelly bean and spotify?

Does anyone have an eq manager working with spotify in jelly bean? I've tried to get DSP and volume+ to work but haven't been able too.

up!
search for awsome beats dsp it works just fine
spotify doesnt use the correct music API to work with awesome beats dsp and dsp manager
AMEN.
I've been trying to contact Spotify about this and they only seem intersted in giving me the runaround about development sometimes doesn't always give you what you want immediately or something... I really hope they remedy this, as I REALLY miss useing DSP Manager to make my Ultimate Ears sound phenomenal on my Galaxy Nexus.
Not even Volume+ works right, which used to be the only one that worked reliably with ICS.
And no, Beats Audio doesn't work with Spotify and Jelly Bean. If you really got it working, I'd love to know how.
I swear on my unborn children life that I'm not a troll.
BUT
Somehow I could use dspmanager with my spotify yesterday. I was then on XenonHD/Trinity and had the mod from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748803&highlight=awesome+beats installed.
However the same night I did a reset and installed Rasbeanjelly instead, and now I can't get spotify to work with dspmanager anymore...
The new version of spotify has a equalizer built in, but I got waaaay better sound when I could use dspmanager.
Could it have to do with me listening to spotify offline?
Did a nandroid backup before i installed RBJ. Might restore that one just to be able to figure out why it worked!

Sound Synthesizer

There don't seem to be any controls for the synthesizer under Sound. The only app I can access one is from Music Hub which is another stupid, pre-installed subscription service (one day left). I can turn it on there, then use TuneIn/iHeart Radio to stream music. Is there any other way to access the controls?
If your phone is rooted, I suggest DSP Manager. It is an excellent equalizer, which is what I assume you are looking for.

Yeah, that sounds like what I might be looking for. But I'm reading that people are having problems with it on the Note 2 and there are a number of versions of DSP Manager. You wouldn't know which one works, would you?
If not, no biggie. Looks like Music Hub's Equalizer is still functional even though my trial has expired and I have no intentions on renewing it.
Im using noozxoide app. Its free in the market. Fully customizable, and its so far the best sounding one that I've come accross yet. Ive tried the dsp manager with the beats and the acid mods, but most of those just make the sound louder and not so much better. Noozxoide actually makes my music sound full bodied and realistic. Bass can be boosted as well and makes my stock truck stereo sound like I have a subwoofer. The best part is it works with all my music apps, not just the installed music player. I stream pandora exclusively (havent used the radio or cd player in my truck for about two years now) so this really makes listening to music even better. Give it a shot. I dont think you'll be dissapointed. If you don't like it, its easilly uninstalled unlike some of the other mods.

Thanks for the recommendation, nuc noob! I downloaded and tried it out -- a very confusing app -- and I wasn't able to get it to sound better with my headphones than the Equalizer in Media Hub (which still functions even if you don't subscribe, thank goodness). So I uninstalled it.
Speaking of headphones, I'm surprised to find out the ones that came with the Note II are actually pretty good as far as bass goes. I tried on a pair of Sony over-the-hear headphones and the volume nor the quality was nearly as good. So I'm fairly happy with everything so far.

Not sure. I went thru all three and set them up my way. I know the blue tooth changes work because I use it the most. I just plug it into the aux in of my truck or into my computer speakers in my room. I adjust the equalizer and room size in the app based on my speaker size and I can tell the difference. My only suggestion is to verify under sytem settings/sound/sound effects, that noozxoide is selected. Ibalso played with every possible setting one by one while listening to music and adjusted to my taste for the wired output, built in speaker, and the wireless output. It may take a while to figure out all the settings, but when you get it all set up, it will be totally worth it.

[Q] Does DSP Manager work on your Galaxy Nexus rom?

Has DSP Manager ever worked for your Galaxy Nexus in any rom? I am willing to downgrade my rom to get a working DSP Manager. I already tried different music apps (Neutron, PowerAmp, JetAudio, MX Player) on all custom roms from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2--this all took a frustrating long day--and DSP Manager only works with Apollo music player. I am quite attached to DSP Manager in my LG P500 which I converted into a dedicated mp3 player using JetAudio Plus, and I can't listen to a different sound signature than what that combination gives me.
there are roms that have working DSP managers but i think most if not a majority of the gnex community uses:
-noozxoide
-awesome! beats
-king(?) beats
you can try the noozxoide sound engine(dsp replacement) with NOOZY music player.
or if you want to venture further, theres the ac!d audio thread and their engine

THANK YOU JT for the reply! I wasn't hoping to get one, much less this fast.
I'll try those immediately and report the results.
DSP Manager works but only on Cyanogenmod's default music player Apollo. I've seen similar reports but on other Galaxy Nexus forums, not this one, so I was thinking it's an inherent problem with the device OR like in reports on other devices, something happened with Android 4.1.x and 4.2.x that made DSP Manager stop working like it used to.

Wow, it looks like a party in there! THANK YOU for the reply! I'm definitely trying that one as well.
I tried Beats before, but I immediately went back to DSP Manager. What I love about DSP Manager the most is the bass boost, because I've never heard a deeper, punchier, distortion-free bass than DSP Manager's, and I listen to chiptune dance music a lot.
Also, I noticed that when you cup your hand just below the speaker vent of the Galaxy Nexus, the sound volume increases ten times that it's deafening! It's really weird! Has anyone else noticed this? The side of your cupped hand should touch just below the vent, while holding the phone like normal.

lol yeah that's normal.
by cupping the speaker area, you're allowing the sound to bounce off the walls of your hand hence the "louder"-ness.
the same thing can be achieved by putting your into a tall cup or leaned against a wall in a cabinet allowing it to bounce and echo

Heya bon badier what exact rom are you using? EDIT: okay I see in your signature you're using the Cataclysm rom, but just to confirm if this is the one working with the audio effects app you mentioned.
None of the apps mentioned worked on the official CM10.1 nightlies. It only affected Apollo but nothing else.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that putting just the tip of my finger just below the vent making a 45 degree angle boosts the volume tremendously. I thought a simple contraption mod could do the same thing, like a small flexible flap the same width as the vent.
Also JT what exact rom are you using? As I said, all the apps mentioned behave the same way as DSP Manager on the official CM10.1 nightlies. They only worked on Apollo and not on anything else. EDIT: I see in your signature you're using Xenon HD with purity kernel, so this is just to confirm.
