yea thanks for not contributing to the thread and posting an utterly pointless remark
If no one is willing to try it, I'll attempt to get my hands on a locked device to test this.
Yes, please let us know, free bootloader unlock would be nice

I will only be able to test it on an R800x though.
It should work best with an R800x, considering that Fastboot is not locked on them.
Currently looking for that
And
Waiting for your feedback
This is the method I used to unlock my bootloader in 2 xperia plays. I used xda member jinx13 who unlocks phones to play it safe as AT&T has extra lock from what I heard. It was strange to me to use paperclip on testpoint & negative terminal like that, but it worked twice.

Edit*I just read that thread more, can you do that method without paying for credits?? This looks different from my method...and free.(if I read it right.)

Nice. Makes me wonder if it the guys who charge for the service use this exact method, and pretty much got paid $25 to connect to your computer and clicked a few clicks while you pretty much did all the physical part yourself. Lol and the "credits" was a lie and they made 100% profit from it. They probably LOL'd every time they looked at their PayPal accounts.
Kelvin, have some goddamn respect. If you had done any reading at all, you'd know how much the people you're badmouthing have enriched this community.

Im pretty sure it wasn't a scam. AT&T really had extra lock on bootloader. Where it tells you to push *73xxxxxx*(whatever it says), my phone said "bootloader unlock-NO." At least that's what I think. It was a while back. But either way this method had not been released to public & I had less risk of damage to phone by having some help.

Thing is guys this STILL doesnt unlock the FASTBOOT which is necessary to flash custom kernels on our beloved XPLAYS...it just unlocks the god damn bootloader..hence those with locked still need to resort to that paid unlock service to get our FASTBOOTS unlocked...because an unlocked bootloader is as good as a damn locked one if the damn fastboot is still locked...excuse me there for my english !

Good explanation, and plus if you do have a carrier play like att and also want sim unlock the fee covers it, i paid and im not complaining because i got what i wanted, plus i would remove this new guide, too many noobs, not first understanding there devices and messing around with Sony Ericsson bootloaders and other board level stuff is dangerous even if there is a guide, SEtools can brick
I tried it and nothing happens. All s1tools said after pressing "testpoint READY" for the second time was "START NAK 03000A , elapsed time 60 secs." and then nothing.

Same here. I posted on the thread with my log, asking what is happening with it, and if R800x is supported...
It truly blows my mind how often these threads come up. If there was a way to flash custom kernels for free, everyone would do it and no one would pay. Why do you have to pay? To get credits that aren't any "free'er" to anyone else in the world. I don't get it, you tell someone their options, you point them in the right direction then they end with, ya, but can you do it for free? No, you can not. We need a sticky, this is ridiculous...

This was just to discuss if the free methods from other Xperias worked with ours. I am well knowledged that there currently is no free method.
Sent from R800x
But its been discussed before, and with a title like that you know people who arent as well knowledge in the XPlay are going to swarm in thinking they found that free unlock that everyone keeps hiding from them because unlocking is free and its all a conspiracy with people getting rich over pressing a button... or something to that effect. Personally Im tired on posting it over and over, and Im even more tired of those same people ignoring posts because they believe people are lying when they say you cant do it for free.

I did find something interesting on the internet. I googled VIVO_W XB SHIP S-OFF and came up with a few threads in chinese of people that have this. I don't know if contacting them for their information would help us. Their software is the same as ours but showing s-off

From what I am reading, a lot of them were trying to flash IS roms onto S-OFF I2. They were *I AM GUESSING* probably told that they are buying an imported IS and doesn't realize it's actually an entirely different model.
Nothing really to see here in terms of breakthroughs... there's a way to S-OFF these VZW I2's... there's a list of address on their forums, but China is kind of far from NY.... haha
EDIT:
PS. There seems to be couple of reasons why they really like our I2s over their own domestic S710d. First being that ours are made in Taiwan instead of China, I am guessing the quality is better? and the Second being that it is said the domestic S710d are not S-OFF able as of right now, and only the VZW rom can support WCDMA on top of EVDO and 1X.
My own speculation, it seems like it's an XTC-clip based method from how people are describing it. I will be following their forum closely and will post here if found anything new.
Haha! my bad.

Bah. I wanted the Incredible 2, but maybe my OG Droid will have to keep kicking until they announce a phone officially with an unlocked boot loader. I don't think they'll do it retroactively, but I'd love them more if they do. I want an Inc 2!
i just got my inc2 from my second insurance claim this year, so i can't 'break' my phone to get one of the new unlocked ones, i really hope they unlock it with an ota, or maybe 'leak' the keys to some devs, so they can do it for us..
I've only had mine a couple weeks. I'm not the type to commit insurance fraud to try to get an unlocked one. I was just joking but I know claims will go up with some people trying to get a new unlocked one.
I have another upgrade in October so I can wait if necessary. I have a feeling they won't be retroactive but the codes may be leaked somehow.
Yup...Tapatalk'd
Ya I'm not either, I've dropped my phone off my balcony twice now in a year, but even if I was super tempted I couldn't anyway. Realistically they won't be retroactive but we can all hope they will leak the keys.

I don't see why all you guys are so doubtful that HTC will unlock phones that have already been released. The Inc 2 is less than a couple months old, there's no reason to believe that HTC would not apply their new stance to it. My worst case scenario is that we have to wait for the first OTA update (hopefully to GB) before it is unlocked. Even if they for some reason choose not to unlock it, the newer unlocked phones will almost certainly provide some insight on how to unlock this one. Have patience, this phone is pretty amazing without root anyway, there's no reason to be so desperate for it.

Here's to hoping that the policy reversal is retroactive! *clicks champagne glass to yours"
There's someone in the IS forum claiming they got prem root (heh, see what I did there?) without hardware. So far all that's been posted is a youtube video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK_V7xo3qug
I'm taking this with a grain of salt, however. When I see the process reproduced by other people, or instructions I can follow and see for myself, I'll believe it then. Hopefully if the process is publicized it will also work on the I2, given how similar the devices are.
WE WILL SEE!
(I'm not posting the link to the thread because it's full of vitriol and has no substance nor information outside of the video concerning this revelation.)

Actually, where have you been? The IS has XTC Clip working on all but the Bell branded version of it, and that is the only unlock method available. The video seems to indicate, and the person who posted it implies, that a non hardware method was found, meaning no XTC Clip required.
I do read that forum on occasion in hopes that whatever they find works on our side as well So far almost all of the exploits found to work on the IS work on the I2 as well. The one difference in filesystems is probably the only thing that separates them enough for soft perm root on IS to fail on I2. I did say that I hope it works for us as well.

Please sign these petitions to make motorola atleast look at us
Motorola is very good in fake promising
But we will force them to do things!!!!
This one is to force motorola unlock the bootloaders
This one is to tell motorola that this will be the last purchase of moto phones if they dont unlock the bootloaders [link removed]
This one is to make them release an ics update for defy
And finally this one is to help other people who bought their products
Motorola triumph..Help them too please
Force moto release an gingerbread update for triumph [link removed]
Google s control over Motorola can bring about an change..it's not an waste signing the petition..!
Thanks to all of them who signed this petition!!
An ICS update ? Seriously, be realistic...
I think its already proven that petitioning will not work. Look at what they did last year.
edit: joined the petition anyway.
But well try our level best...this is the only thing we can do

This has been going on for like one to two years now i think and the best they have done was to lie to us then release a developer phone really moto and after this further locking devices by stopping them having the ablitity to flash sbf.... I think moto is a loss hope better off with samsung or htc i mean samsung have bootloaders unlock from factory.
and the defy getting ics looool never will happen
I signed all petitions
Motorola UNLOCK DEFY' S BOOTLOADER
Don't worry guys..soon google will take over moto..

Motorola has many patents..over 17000 of them..they have a lot of hardware patents especially on wireless things..so Google is trying to take control over moto..hope this petition brings a little change !!!

Another thread that achieves nothing...
petition
We did everything we could , but Motorola is not even turning on, the only way are custom rom, already have passed petitions and 10,000 registrations yet nothing.
I've signed. Even though there is a small chance it will actually work it is still worth a shot to try...
Yeah but ours is a minority developer community.we have done a lot of petitions before .Moto is very good in breaking promises..and i think we have to force google to force moto unlock the bls
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk 2
Well, if you want to force Motorola, make sure you're putting pressure on what matters the most for them - the income and profit. So, the simplest solution would be to boycott their products by not buying them.
isn't tat unlocking bootloader make defy prone to "real bricking"..atleast nw we have power to flash sbf via rsd lite..i reaf somwr unlocking bootloader may cause phone to sleep forever due to wrong flashing of custom roms..correct me if iam wrong..
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
Samsung ,HTC s are unlocked and are unbrickable too...we ll not that hard brick...its 99% impossible for such hard brick!!
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
We are the minority developer community ..so for Motorola we are just a piece of cake...they don't care about whatever we do...I started posting on their walls in fb and tweet ...please u too do these!!!...but we can do some changes if we all stand together ..no other way.!!!..boycotting won't work cost were d minority team...

I don't think anything will work anymore i mean standing together we have be doing that for some time now after 2 petitions with over 20,000 signatures we get a empty promise from them then they decide to prevent the flashing of sbf on some of their phones like the photon...... Like Vap_66 said the best way really is to forget about motorola if you want to be able to unlock your phone's bootloader, flash some kernel, radios etc..... Moto are a loss cause....
Htc and asus understand their customers they unlocked their bootloaders after some pressure but what does moto do well they bring out a so called developer phone like wtf??? U expect people to fork out more money just for a some what simple software unlock....
There is already a thread for this exact petition, absolutely no need to start a second one.
Not to mention, there was also another petition that actually elicited a response from Motorola but still achieved nothing.
As for the other petitions linked-to in the thread, the one about never buying another Motorola handset is pointless and implied in the original bootloader petition and the one for the Triumph has nothing to do with the Defy so both those links have been removed.
And since this thread serves no further purpose...

If HTC understood their customers half as much as people claim, they'd never have started locking the bootloaders.
They're a terrible example compared tom say, Samsung or LG who just don't lock them in the first place.

your device must be fully paid, & you must have been a customer for at least 45 days.
if you satisfy those requirements, you qualify for a free unlock from tmobile.
otherwise, head on over to cellunlocker.net

I too will be taking this phone internationally. My phone is paid off and I have been on the prepaid for 6 months but post paid for 4 days. I wonder what tmobile will do with my request.
I bought a new S4 at full retail price from T-Mobile. I am travelling to Europe next week and wanted to get it unlocked. I tried to get it unlocked by chatting with a rep online and they said I had to be a customer in good standing for 40 days ( I just switched over from Sprint) and that they wouldn't even bother submitting the unlock request. This is NOT what is says on their website (see: support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588) Their website says that if you pay full retail price you only need to have an account in good standing to unlock. Based on what the website said, I went to the store, they took a look at the website and called up the unlock team and submitted an unlock request. I was supposed to get a response from the unlock team in 24-48 hours, but 96 hours later when I had still not heard from them, I just used cellunlocker.net. 10 mins and $24 later I got the code.
One thing to note: cellunlocker.net gives you a bunch of ways to enter the code, but the only way that worked for me was to insert a different SIM, so if you do get a code from them you may want to make sure you have access to a SIM on a different network.

As I mentioned, I paid full retail price for mine. If you read the rest of that page there is a section for people who paid full retail price. There is no 40 day requirement in that case.

I am afraid now a days you will have to look at the M9 or Nexus if you want an unlocked boot loader. Of course it will just be a matter of time before that will be bypassed like on the G2 & G3.

My Note 4 came with an unlocked bootloader and my Z2 last year was unlockable. I had the G3 for a month and gave up with it as it took too long for a work around.
I was talking about an across the board unlocked, not dependent on variant/carrier, etc. Those two are the only ones besides any "Google Play Edition" phones, which I haven't seen with the current generation,by which are going to be factory unlocked. Good luck in your search.

If you guys are comparing locked bootloader in the G4 to the G2, please note the G2 was rooted and had development going almost immediately.
Nothing to worry about too much

The G3 bootloader wasn't unlocked for months.
T-Mobile never had a locked bootloader

Isn't that for the SIM unlock and not the boot loader unlock? Two different things.

Actually, that is for bootloader unlock. It is a feature of lollipop. I am surprised to see it outside of nexus however. Checking that option does not unlock your bootloader, rather it is a security setting to allow the process to happen. With Nexus, you must check this option before you can use "fastboot oem unlock". It has also been the cause of many soft and hard bricks on the Nexus 6.

It's easier for me and better for you if you tried the search function first.

I'm not the one that's too lazy to use the search function, Buddy. Why should I help someone who won't try to help themselves, Buddy?
I've got 120 "thanks." How many do you have, Buddy?
A plea for help.
I am the definition of a noob. I have spent the last several days trying to find the root for my sm-n910v 6.0.1 note 4 and have come up empty. Now, I am quite certain that I am missing it; I humbly ask for someones direction in where to find what I am looking for. Any help is appreciated.

Think you'll have to downgrade to 5.1.1 but not 100% sure on that. Should be able to post in the thread I linked before you follow those instructions.

I love trying to help people. I don't love trying to help people that won't try to help themselves.
Before I go messing with a $600 phone, I want to know all I can about what I'm doing first. The only way to do that is to peruse the threads, sniffing out the difficulties others had so I might avoid those difficulties.

I agree. It's one thing to help people who need it, but it's totally something else to help people who are just too lazy to look through the general and development threads. We all started out as noobs, but come on.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=18893 kingroot is the only one i know of so far
Kingroot will not work with MM with an unlocked bootloader. I know this from expierence. I have a retail Note 4 converted to the developer ed. with a unlock bootloader on MM. And it will not root currently. I think I found thru the grapevine it needs a modified kernel.

Kingroot probably won't work on an unlocked bootloader. That's not how you get root with an unlocked bootloader.
I doubt a kernel is keeping a phone from rooting.
Just to stop this stupid argument:
You need to flash a hybrid firmware containing the MM bootloader/modem and the LL OS, which can be rooted.

Revised instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67389448&postcount=164
Read them both, read around in the thread a bit, and use search there. Chances are your issue is addressed.
And personally, I believe you should do a little research before asking. If you can't find a definitive answer, then ask, but show that you have at least tried. I think you were called lazy because, to be fair, this thread is pretty prominently displayed in the main section. On the other hand, it is usually better to just give someone the link and hope they figure out how to use the forums.

If someone says "do your research," it can be a little annoying, but really, if you have the time to root your phone, unlock your bootloader and possibly install custom ROMs, you should have time to look up how to do that. You shouldn't attack someone, even if they come off as a little rude. If someone attacks you, just report the post and don't 'fan the flame,' so to speak.
I will not be responding to this, so as to avoid getting sucked into the argument.

Great response!!+1 on what he said.
I've been around since HTC Dream and never seen a question get an answer like that. I agree with Zacharee1 but will add an addendum to it:
If you don't have anything helpful to say, don't reply to the post at all.
I also won't respond to negativity, just brings the community to a place we shouldn't go.
