WiFi network settings remembered even after wipe? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus
I was running a CM9 nightly, and flashed CM9 RC1. Before flashing the rom, I went into recovery (TWRP 2.1), and did a factory reset, wipe dalvik, and wipe system. After flashing RC1, I go to turn on WiFi, and it connected without requiring me to enter my network key (router is a WPA secured, and requires a password to be entered on first setup). I've never had a phone do that before. If I wiped the device (hero, Evo 4G, Evo Shift 4G, Nexus S, Epic 4G Touch), it would be like starting over.
Is there something I'm not doing when I wipe, or is this normal behavior?

It backed up by Google.
If you don't enter your google account on setup it won't restore it. But if you do your apps and wifi passwords will be back by itself.

That's why it asked you if you wanted Google to restore your apps and settings and WiFi access points etc.. Gotta read what you're agreeing to

APN Affecting 3G Availability?

I recently flashed a new ROM which required use of an APN backup/restore app to get a working APN (redemptive? I can't remember which, flashed a few lately). Anyway, before changing it, I did an APN backup, deleted my APN, and restored using the included xml file.
I decided to go back to virtuous via a nandroid backup and thought it would be best to restore my APN to the way it was when I first flashed the new ROM before doing so.
Everything still works, but lately when I'm not on wifi and I browse the web, facebook, etc. I'm almost always on 1X instead of 3G and it seems slower.
I could just be crazy, but I don't really remember seeing 1X active very often before. I also had a hell of a time getting navigation to download directions the other day, even with a fair amount of signal (it kept saying "data connection lost" even though the map itself was updating).
Could this have anything to with messing with the APN from a different ROM, even though I restored using nandroid? If so, is there a way to restore a stock APN? I looked around a bit but couldn't find anything.

I'm really struggling to find the source of this problem if it isn't the APN. I have tried updating my PRL via *228 using both the .09.01 radio and the .07.28 radio. I have also tried several different kernels thinking that might somehow affect which data speeds are used.
I've read of a lot of people fixing this problem by either rebooting or toggling airplane mode on and off. Neither of these workarounds has given me any success.
However, I still am only getting 1X speeds everywhere I go when I normally have excellent 3G coverage everywhere. In addition, most of the time when 1X data finishes transferring, my 3G icon appears for a good 10 seconds, but with no sending/receiving animation.
Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong and/or how to fix it?

This was happening to me too. A Verizon rep solved it!
You need to factory reset your phone. It's not as scary as it sounds actually.
Nandroid just in case.
For Sense:
Settings --> SD & phone storage --> Factory data reset --> whichever wipes the most.
For AOSP:
Settings --> Privacy --> something...
And after the reboot, "activate" your phone. (There will be a popup)
That fixed it! Well, sort of. I ended up being put in a boot loop when I tried a factory reset, both from the menu and from within hboot. I'm not sure if it was my ROM, hboot version, being rooted, or what, since I've never had to do that for anything before.
I restored my nandroid but my phone now had no idea who my carrier was and had me in roaming mode. I was unable to get any data to transfer whatsoever and wasn't able to update anything via *228, I was pretty worried at this point!
I ended up going back to S-On, unrooting and reverting completely back to a stock image, boot, radio, etc. After re-rooting, redoing S-Off, updating the radio and restoring my nandroid backup, 3G is fully functional again!
A big pain to deal with compared to a basic factory reset I'd imagine, but worth it I guess. Thanks for the info.

You're welcome! Yeah, I'm not sure why there are so many hoops to jump through.
Seems like the factory data reset clears something that ROMs don't.

Restored ROM. Lost all phone service!!??

Trying to change operator name, I lost a key files But I had just done a full ROM Manager backup before this.
So I restored stock ROM from zip on SD, then re-installed ROM Manager and then did a restore of my perfectly working ROM.
BUT...I have no phone service! In fact on the settings>about phone>network screen I have NO operator name, NO signal strength, NO mobile network type, NO service state, and NO roaming.
I assume this is actually a simple resolution since so much is out. If I can just find the circuit breaker I can through the switch and get this all back.
BTW, with no service, I cannot try to *288 activate or even call Verizon on 611.
Instead of reinstalling the rom, rom manager and then restoring your backup, you might want to try simply booting directly into recovery (power off, then hold power + down volume. When you get into hboot, use down volume to select Recovery and then hit power to select). In recovery, do a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvic cache) then restore your backup. It seems something from your hosed rom is surviving.
I think you are right that Mr. Dalvic was my enemy! I had wiped what I thought was everything, but did so again more meticulously, and then did the reinstall.Phone service is now back. Thanks.

Flashed Rom, can't sync google account

hey guys, yes noob here. but im actually not just to this forum
i have an evo 4g rooted,Gingerbread 2.3.5 flashed to metro
i was running a mikg rom (v3.11) i was flashing the
MetrogenMod 4.5 (thought i didn't superwipe or flash the gapps) guess that was this issue)
and my google sync didn't work so i wentback to mikg rom and the google sync still dosent work.
i even did a factory reset and for some reason it dosent reset it back to were i see the sprint 4g screen.
so i restored a back up and the back up said android secure not found but i just go ahead and reboot.
it still says google:
can't establish a reliable data connection to server
this could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services.
this phone is not activated and i used wifi for it. it worked before but when i flashed another rom that when my google sync problems started
if anyone can help id be greatly appreciated

[Q] PagePlus conversion ok, then lost 1x completely

I had my phone successfully flashed to PagePlus, getting 1x data. I am no longer getting any data at all. All that was done was adding the 10.key file (which I've since remobed)... When I look at the Mobile Network in the phone status, it says disconnected.... Trying to even just get the 1x working again. Even restored the original ROM that I backed up after patching...
Any ideas? Would really like to not have to go through reseting the radio and migrating it back to pageplus, but if that is the quickest, easiest, most assured way, I'll do that.
Forgot to mention that I did a full format (cache, system, dalvik, data, internal, and factory reset) and installed the stock ROM as well before putting in the 10.key file, so not sure if something could have happened with that or not... I did perform a full restore back to my CM10.1 later, but still no data.

Suddenly device can't access internet

I'm running the latest beta rom, and since yesterday my device can't connect to internet no matter if i'm connected to a wireless router (i have tried 3 different routers in different places, home, work, friend's home) or using my data plan. Last thing I was doing was sending and receiving messages. After that I went to sleep and when I woke up device had no internet access even though I could see the Wi-Fi symbol or/and the 4G symbol from my carrier.
I have rebooted the device, switched it off, enabled airplane mode, wiped cache from within recovery. I even dirty flashed latest beta zip on top of the rom i'm already running, but nothing helped.
Any suggestion on what to do?
If it's possible I don't want to wipe everything and set the device up all over the beginning. The device isn't rooted and I don't have Titanium backup installed in order to restore the device in few minutes.

Wipe system, reflash the rom. You don't lose anything it just overwrites the system partition and pray it works. Otherwise you are going to need to do a full clean install. Keep in mind it's Open Beta, stability issue might be there more often.
