[Q] "turning wi-fi on" but never connecting - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Initially, I used the 4.0.4 system.
In the advance setting, MAC address and IP address are both unavailable.
All the other things work fine. And I have never dropped my GN. I don't
think this is due to a hardware issue.
I've tried almost everything I can, flashing Radios, flashing kernels, changing
to other third party ROMs, take off the battery, ..., but none works.
Now, I've flashed to the new JB 4.1. It still not works.
I used to be google fans. But Google disappoints me this time. Maybe I should
blame Samsung.
Anyone who can help me I'll be very very grateful.
Kevin

1. Can you see any networks at all?
2. Have you used the correct password for the network?
3. Have you set the correct security for the network?
4. Have anything been changed on the network?

Thanks for reply.
I cannot see any networks at all, except "turning wi-fi on ..."
I've tried both at home and at workplace, the issue is still there.
My wife's phone works well. I've also reset the router, but it still
does not work.

Then you probably have a hardware failure, if you still have a warranty on your device you should send it back for repairs.

Flash back to ICS

Yes, I've fully wiped. And I've flashed back to 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.4,
but none works.
I've seached on the forum but seems no good solution. Sigh...

Then you have a hardware failure. Only resolve is a repair. If you still have warranty you can do a claim on that.
There are a couple other threads about the same issue, where the solution was your change the board the wifi sits on.
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus

I have this issue and i can only solve it by restarting many times and sometimes having to pull the battery out.

[Q] GPS not working. I tried EVERYTHING!!!

Hello! I know this is a common thread, but i'm desperate!
My GPS is not locking at all, i left the phone for 10 to 20 minutes and i got nothing...
I'm using the CM10.1 MoDaCo ROM, but i tried so many ROMS, fixed configuration files, walkthroughs, etc, but none of them seem to work.
I'll list all the methods that i try so far.
1) Flash a fixed configuration file
2) Change the ROM: i tried with the stock 4.2.2, CM10, CM10.1 Nightlies, CM10.1 Experimental, MoDaCo CM10.1
3) Flash different radios. I live in Chile, so i tried UGLL1 and UGKL1
4) Clear data of Google Services Framework, restart, etc
5) Used FasterGPS to set my location in the right area
6) Used GPS Status to improve AGPS
7) Change the build.prop file
I tried every method and the combination of them, but nothing has worked for me so far....
The GPS is very important for me because i use it to track my rides with Strava, and since the GPS is not working, i cannot start the application...
I really need help...
I use a Galaxy Nexus Maguro without Wallet and live in Chile. I cannot tell exactly when the GPS started to fail, but at least in the stock 4.1.2 it was working perfect, so i guess it started failing when i updated to CM10 and then to CM10.1.....
Ok try this if you haven't.
In settings turn off all location. Reboot
Make sure location reporting is still off.
Clear data on Maps force stop maps
Reboot
Clear data on maps and force stop again
Enable location
Get gps lock with maps or easy gps.
Might not work but I have had your same problem and this fixed it .... good luck

Hi!
Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately i've already tried this method with no succeed. I tried again but it didn't work...
Thanks anyway, i'm going to try to roll back to stock 4.1 (because the GPS was working with that version)
and if it really works i'm going to upgrade to 4.2 to see if i can find the error...
If someone else can give me a solution i'll appreciate it!

I already tried, but with Android 4.2.2 and it didn't work.
Before i flashed the 4.2.2 i was using stock 4.1 without problems, so i believe, and hope, that this is a software issue in the 4.2.2 update...
I'm going to try it now and i let you know.

My GPS got worse after upgrading to 4.2.2. Lock takes much longer and finds less satellites
- wore out your welcome
More info
Well, i returned to Stock Android 4.1.2 using Fastboot, but the GPS didn't work either... So i updated via OTA to 4.2.2 and the GPS didn't worked again...
But i noticed that the Nexus S belonging to my sister, wich uses CyanogenMod 10, is not working either!
So i have a doubt now: Is it possible that CyanogenMod could have ruined our GPSs? If i erased everything via fastboot, is it possible that some remains of CyanogenMod could still be breaking my GPS? Or are our GPSs, strangely, broken at the same time?!
Please Help!!!

If you've flashed the Google factory image, you have an active sim card with data connection, and gps does not work, then you have a hardware problem.

Out of my realm of expertise, but I imagine the sirf chipset is not user serviceable. Your best bet would be Samsung factory service. I'm sorry.
Well, after giving up on trying to solve my GPS problem, it fixed itself.... i know that sounds weird, but the only thing that i did was update the CM10.1 to the latest RC2 and the problem was fixed, at least partially. Now it can find some satellites and it takes like 100 seconds.
The Gnex GPS isn't the best one, so it behaves a little weird some times, but at least is fixed now...
I really don't know what could be the problem, because i tried with almost any Rom, officials and no-officials...
Finally, the CM10.1 RC2 fixed my problem, hope this could help someone else.
Enable wifi & mobile network location in settings
Should be some code in 4.2.2 that prevents you from getting AGPS data if you disable the said option.

The problem is fixed now, but i tried everything, from rolling back to 4.1 official to 4.2.2 official, CM9, CM10, CM10.1, AOKP, etc. So i really don't know what could be the problem. I also tried the solution that you told me, but that didn't work either.
Right now, with CM10.1 RC2 my GPS is working great and i'm able to use Strava again.
I've been having the same issue. I'm running a Stock Verizon Galaxy Nexus, on my third one now. I have tried everything from apps, to resets, to disconnecting the gps, and nothing seems to work. It just seems to take forever to get a GPS lock, sometimes I just have to reset it. Not sure the issue, and I can't seem to find anyone with answers either. IDK if anyone found anything??

Cold start gps can take up to 20 minutes outdoors with a clear view of the sky if you don't have current agps data. Thereafter, you should have quick starts for a day or two.
Is your data working properly? Do you have sync settings turned off?

My data is working just fine, I actually have great 4g where I'm at, and all my sync is turned on. I've never had GPS problems with any of my other phones. I had an EVO 3D, and it worked great, cold starts would take seconds to find GPS.

And you have certified that all the gps settings/permissions are turned on? Even in the Google settings app?
Since you are stock, it might be helpful for diagnosis to preform a factory reset.
Edit - I see on another thread that you have already performed a factory reset. Next step would be to flash the factory image and see if that helps.

Thanks, I'll have to look up and see how to do that without root and boot loader unlocked, this is my third Galaxy Nexus from Verizon, they keep replacing it and I keep having the same issue
And yes all setting have been turned on, kind of driving me nuts
I'm sorry for you. it must be very frustrating.
As far as flashing an official factory image, I think you can do it unlocked if you have adb set up. Or use a toolkit, unlock, flash factory, relock (or not, why not keep it unlocked?)

[Q] Problem with WIFI auto connect in Android 4.3

Ok, So this has been happening for a while. I kept looking up for a fix, and i finally foudn this issue ticket open that looks like others having the same issue, and it appears to be this specific phone.
Is anyone else having this problem and is there an easier way to solve it than resetting the device?
Goggle issue 58230
I will copy the first post, as it pretty much mirrors my experience.
My wifi is always on (turned on the option for keeping it on even when the phone is idle). With older versions (4.2.2 and older), when I arrived at home, the phone automatically was connected to my home wifi.
But when 4.3, sometimes it doesn´t connect until I enter the wifi menu.

Lyian, I have the same issue as well, on google stock rom as well as all the modded roms, whether 4.3, or 4.4. I may have to junk my (otherwise perfect) phone just for this. I don't see any solutions anywhere.

I have the same problem, every now and then it will stop having service and the only way to get it back is by rebooting, sometimes it works at first sometimes it needs a couple of reboots.
Any hint with this would be great
(this happened to me with aokp and cyanogenmod)

same problem and i'm having invalid imei
im having almost identical problems... like a month or 2 ago i reflashed to the new 4.3 slim rom. I have been fighting this thing every since. Ive tried so many different radios but yet i still have this issue, sometimes i can go days without problems but now it seems to loose data even sooner. ONLY way i get data (4G) back is if i reboot. Ive tried disabling then re-enabling data, same for airplane mode, nothing works. I think part of the problem is this damn rom.... i used to be on black bean 8 and for the mobile networks it had an option for "CDMA/LTE". This rom must be a ported rom cause the only selection for mobile networks that work is "CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA". I am on Sprint CDMA and LTE. i dont understand why this was done like this. I Would like to go back to blackbean 8 but i had problems with it and i like some of the settings for this rom better. Anybody have any ideas? Ive tried ALL the radios, none seem to be stable.
oh and i would post in there for the rom's forum but seeing as i havent posted enough here im not able to ask questions about it or anything :-/

[Q] Major WiFi issue out of nowhere?

Hey all. I need some advice. This morning my G3 (D850) dropped WiFi connection for no reason. It says the signal is good but the network info says saved, secured. It will attempt to connect over and over again and if it does connect the signal is weak as can be and it drops the connection within 2 seconds. My coworker has a G3 also and is connected to the same work network I am. His connection says excellent where as mine said good. His device connects just fine with full bars. I'm baffled. I've already tried manually selecting 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz instead of auto select and that didn't help at all. I've tried manually turning off WiFi and turning it back on. I've tried turning airplane mode on and then off to refresh the connection and that didn't help. I've done a battery pull as someone in one of the android authority forums suggested that (apparently I am not the only one having this issue.), didn't work. I've unchecked WiFi optimization - no dice. There was another post on a different forum here on XDA that said turning off WiFi and then deleting the WiFi config folder located in data/etc/wifi and then rebooting fixed the issue for them so I tried that. After reboot when I tried to turn on WiFi my G3 rebooted itself. Does it everytime. SO, I had to restore to a nandroid backup (btw I'm on rooted stock 10f) to get the phone to stop hating my WiFi toggle attempts. Last ditch effort I did a factory reset hoping for an easy fix... Nope. I don't know what else to try. It was fine yesterday all day. This morning it was perfectly fine and then randomly started having this issue. I haven't altered any system files whatsoever. I really don't want to send my device to LG for warranty replacement so I'm hoping someone can help me out that may have had this issue and resolved it. The only difference between my device and my coworkers device is he is still on 10d and I am on 10f. That could be the issue I guess but that doesn't really explain why my device has been perfectly fine until this morning and I've been on rooted 10f for weeks. I am planning on flashing back to straight bone factory stock 10d when I get home here in a few hours from work but Idk if that will help or not. Judging from the amount of google search results of "LG G3 WiFi connection problems" this seems to be an issue for several people. I won't know if it's on the software side or hardware side until I get home but in the meantime has anyone had these issues at all? People have had success in changing to Static IP but I would have to do that for every connection I attempt to connect to and that's a pain in the a$$. Also, that does nothing to identify the root cause of the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)

Thanks for the reply. So it turned out my phone just randomly decided it doesn't like my work network anymore. Idk why lol. I got home and it hooked right into WiFi. Gf's WiFi and open networks as well. I call shenanigans. I went ahead and flashed back to 10d anyway though.

I am having the same issue! But it is happening in other networks too...sometimes I get the phone to connect but it only works for a while and when I check the networks it only says Saved, even if I try to connect again
Having the same issue, whether at work or home, my wifi has become near useless. I've even gone as far as trying a different ROM. Didn't work.
Same thing here
I also have tried factory reset, installed a new ROM, changed settings in my router... but the problem remains I don't know what to do anymore, I use wifi a lot!! I searched through other topics but no one seem to know how to solve it. Unfortunately my warranty already expired, I took my phone to some technicians but honestly it didn't help at all...they all said it was a software bug and I should wait for an update but if it was just that a new ROM would fix it,right?
I am not very familiar with phone hardware but I assume that if it was a hardware problem I wouldn't be able to turn it on or connect to any network, right?? (any experts here???)
Any solution is welcomed.
anyone please?? :crying:
P.S : I tried a new baseband, new kernel and new ROMs. So far, nothing changed.
I can connect sometimes but get kicked out within minutes. At other times I only get the saved, secured message.
This is happening in every network

Nexus 5X hotspot not working

I've tried searching google for a solution, but to no avail.
Generally when you search for the title of this thread, you come across plenty of solved problems where devices could connect to the hotspot but not connect to the internet.
My issue is different. Devices cannot even connect to the hotspot, attempting to but eventually failing. I own a brand new Nexus 5X. My brother also has a Nexus 5X and they can all connect to his hotspot. I've tried switching SIM cards and rebooting but no device can connect to my hotspot. It is not a carrier issue as both sims work in my brother's identical phone.
I am really hoping it is a software issue. I want to avoid flashing all stock software (using flash-all.bat) and want to know what I could flash to fix my hotspot.
The phone can make calls and connect to the internet, no trouble. The internet does not drop out when I attempt to turn the hotspot on. However, sometimes the hotspot will attempt to turn on, fail and attempt again. It will loop like that until reboot if that happens.
Modifications:
My brother's phone is stock and the bootloader has never even been unlocked.
My phone has the following modifications:
Unlocked Bootloader
TWRP Recovery
Cataclysm ROM (the latest one, Android 6.0.1, build number mmb29p)
Ultimate Performance (link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...od-ultimate-performence-blazing-fast-t3482317)
No custom kernel (unless ultimate performance counts)
All other images are stock.
Please help. I would rather not have to buy a replacement, as I'm pretty sure unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty.
I am having the same problem. DNS never seems to get registered. This goes for tether and bluetooth connection share.
I managed to break something when trying to fix it, and so did a full stock reset. On the bright side, my phone's hardware is fine. On the downside, I forgot to back everything up before I broke it >.<

I use the terms break and broke loosely. I am still pretty new to android and modifying it, so I often "break" the software when playing with things I do not understand. I look after the hardware though.
The obvious step would be to revert back to stock image and enable/replace your components one by one, so you can see which one is the cause for your non-working hotspot.

So re-flashing fixed it for you? I'm having the exact same issue...
EDIT: Just for future reference, reflashing everything from stock images (7.1.1) fixed this for me as well!
