New in Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello XDA,
I just switched from a Xperia X10 mini to a Samsung Nexus, and I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks for a starter with this phone.
I've been reading some articles on XDA but maybe you can tell from your own experience :cyclops:
Hope you can share some good tips/tweaks/links :fingers-crossed:
Cheers!

unlock bootloader before doing anything. that way if u do decide to root and do all that fancy stuff, you wont have to start from scratch. you'll just flash su.zip and bam!

[Q] In Really need of help!!

Hi All,
I'm a proud owner of DHD and new to Android. I just got my phone off the shelf. After seeing some pics of those customized phones, I really want to do those mods in my phone as well. But the sad thing is that I'm really clueless on where to start and what is the best approach. Kindly help me out!!!=) My wife also has the same phone. I also want her to have these mods on her phone. It would be best if you can provide me with a step by step process.
I will really appreciate the help.
Thanks.
Check out the DHD forums read everything you can find. Lots of tutourials just Google away. Read read read and make sure you understand what you need to do and when you feel comfortable go for it. Lots of help also on Youtube.

[Help] Newby Questions

I bought an Xperia Arc, will arrive on Friday, I would like to receive tips from you, both as root, unlock the bootloader.
And how backing up everything before, or you can, to eventually go back to original ROM.
aaaaa, and what is the best ROM for Xperia Arc, to get it fast , and like simple and beautiful, not with full widgets on homepage, only a simple android. I have ADW Launcher, in another CHINA android phone, and it sounds good, but with a 400mhz processor it is really slow.
Well, thanks guys, and think to get helped, until friday .
If can, please paste links with the correct way to do, like
1 - ROOT
2- Unlock boot
3 - broke phone (joke)

[Q] What roms and kernals should i look for..?

Right i have a
Samsung galaxy nexus
NOT rooted
4.0.4
IMM76I
GSM (I think im from the UK)
I would like some advice on the following:
Whats the best rom for battery life and good performance throughout.?
If or when i root i will be using Galaxy nexus root tool kit v1.4 I want to keep all my apps, data and settings so shall i use the back up and restore in the GNEX tool kit to do this.? (I know SMS wont be saved but ive got an app for that.
also I want advice on how not to brick my phone lol
sorry if it is so noobish but i dont want to mess things up
thanks alot guys for your help and support
:good::good:
No.
Sent from the future.
Wasn't called for but hey ho what do you expect from silly Americans
Disclaimer I love Americans
Just not one who are immature
I really like AOKP. It has just enough features to make it more appealing than many other roms.
Did you chose to keep your phone backed up by Google? If so restore from there when you flash. If not then Titanium Backup us the go to backup app that never fails.
My best advice for not bricking is refrain from flashing anything you can't find info on and do not mess around with unknown fastboot commands.
And don't worry about being new. I'm still learning this phone too!

ok mate thanks alot for your help
Aokp for me too. I also wanna try the tablet rom
I advise you to read all instructions thoroughly and look on youtube for guides... they're on there, and very helpful when you're new to this. Whenever I try rooting/flashing a phone I haven't rooted/flashed before, I try to do as much reading and video watching as I can to prevent any soft/hard bricks.
As far as roms go, Jellybean just came out. It's amazingly fast, responsive and the new features are great, but my battery life seems shorter.... but then, that's probably because I've barely put the phone down since installing JB.
Some launchers don't work on JB yet, though. But the stock one is very nice, so long as you don't mind the persistent search bar.
Just make sure to read the OP completely and try to find answers to anything you don't understand. If they aren't explained well enough for you in the topic, then post your question.
Enjoy the root scene!
Don't flash nothing that's not made for your phone...( gsm) I believe that includes roms and radios. Kernel are ok tho as long as they say so in original post (correct me if I'm wrong still new to this phone to)
And definitely try out paranoid android. Definitely the best rom! (my opinion:fingers-crossed::good: ) here's a link.

2. How to root this phone.
3. How to enter the Lock code of the boot loader.
4. How to enter recovery mode after flashing a kernel with CWM.
Thank you in advance people. im sorry im really new when it comes to XPERIAs, and i am from the Galaxy mini thread who somehow developed Beats audio for our phone. thank you so much guys in advance.

I could not believe this, people
is this the way you guys will answer the questions. this doesnt happen to other threads even the STUPIDEST question delivered by someone... the best treatment i ever had in a thread...
1. Developing / updates for BEATS AUDIO on our thread
2. Unbricking/Resurrecting SGSII
3. ROOTING LT26W
4.ROOTING Desire C.
5. Downloading files for PC upgrades
6. Repairing Dead UNITS/PHONES
7. Searching thread would take a long time
8. Not all threads are useful and sometimes got wrong instruction.
9. Have read the thread of DOOMLORD before ever checking and posting this. just to make sure i am not gonna mess it up like the Samsung Vibrant and HTC G1 i handled before,.
10. I want some of you to know that im really not familiar/a NOOB to XPERIA units/phones since i highly prefer to use SAMSUNG PHONES. i am taking precautions, cause it is better to be safe than sorry.
I asked the stupidest question in SGS and T-Vibrant and it was answered by one of the senior member with full instructions and tips....
Thank you people.
I come from a totally different forum and I must say this ones lacking politeness.

OK welcome mate ,
First you have to find your device forum on xda , I am saying this because unlike other social medias - in xda each devices are different communities.
If you wanna improve your phone's UI , speed and something like that , you have to install a custom rom that is designed for your device (custom roms are created by other people, so there is a chance to get brick or losing some features from your device )
Just have a look at this:- http://www.google.com/url?q=http://...kQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNGysPYLhtTr9LFpYLPtXE5JV679Xg
In xda , there is a button called thanks button , just press it if I help you
hey I'm interested to know how you accomplished this

Hey I'm Salena, I'm surprised you say you rooted the lg volt 4.4.2 kit Kat I've only had mine for a couple weeks now and have been researching how to root it since day one. I've always rooted any device I have usually it's not rocket science, but I've had a damn hard time figuring this one out, I'm on boost but I believe it's the same kernal version as Verizon . Plz share this helpful info with a fellow hacker, also nice to introduce yourself, welcome
