[Help] Newby Questions - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an Xperia Arc, will arrive on Friday, I would like to receive tips from you, both as root, unlock the bootloader.
And how backing up everything before, or you can, to eventually go back to original ROM.
aaaaa, and what is the best ROM for Xperia Arc, to get it fast , and like simple and beautiful, not with full widgets on homepage, only a simple android. I have ADW Launcher, in another CHINA android phone, and it sounds good, but with a 400mhz processor it is really slow.
Well, thanks guys, and think to get helped, until friday .
If can, please paste links with the correct way to do, like
1 - ROOT
2- Unlock boot
3 - broke phone (joke)
haha, like this. thank guys, im newby in android world. but will study for help you and others in the future.
bye bye.

should i root my phone?

i don't know whether i should root my phone because i am afraid of bricking it, but there are too much limitations with unrooted phone.
It's really up to you, it isn't that risky if you have enough knowledge to do everything exactly according to the guides.

Tell us your build number. It is in settings-about-software information. Then ppl can tell you what to do next.

In case you're not sure, you can check your build number through...

No offense, but you need a little knowledge to root and flash a custom rom. This isn't meant for the average user. It feels like everyone who gets an android phone nowadays (as it's becoming a more popular OS) want's to root and flash a custom rom as soon as they have in their hands without even knowing what it really means. The information to do all this is available here on this forum in form of guides which in most of the cases are quite extensive. If you want to root and flash a custom rom etc, you will have to do some reading on your own.
AFAIK this forum isn't here to hold the hands of android virgins as they try modify their phones without even knowing what a command prompt is. Almost every day someone new wants step by step instructions for this and for that even though there are good instructions out there. This forum is meant for people with some experience and knowledge that want to get the most out of our phones. New members are ofcourse welcome, but please, do some studying on your own too.
I was so scared to root my first phone last week. I sat for three hours reading guides over and over again to make sure I new what I was doing and I havent regretted doing it.
Too often I come across threads like this, if your not sure then you probably don't need to root, yet! If you decide to root read the stickies in the development thread, and don't say you havent got time to read a 100 page thread it'll be a lot quicker than fixing your DHD when it's buggered up
Hi ghostofcain
I hope you do not take offence to my reply.

I DIDN'T need to downgrade first and simply followed the video on the bottom of this page.
(Youtube version)
I then simply installed CM7 rom via Rom Manager.
(I am rarely sick but I had been quite ill and in a lot of pain for a few days which was a shock to the system, and when I did get better, I had the mindset that nothing matters at all.) It's not easy for most folk to feel that way. Life is a game. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Unless you are unhappy or bored with Sense or the performance of your phone - there isn't too much reason to root in my opinion.

Best thing i ever did. I had a jailbroken iphone before i got my Desire HD so rooting was the first thing i looked at when i got my HD, getting rid of the branding was the main reason but then i realized how many Roms were out there and now its hard to choose which one to use :

Thanks very much.
There's a lot of changes and benefits if you root your phone and install a custom ROM... First, there are a lot of custom ROMs, for any taste. MIUI imitate the iOS system, with the liberty of Android OS, for example, and RevoHD leave the original SENSE ROM, with improvements of course.
Then, custom ROMs have some interesting tweaks, like zipalign, the ads removing and a better management of the RAM.
To finish, I did it myself (running the MIUI ROM by Rey) and I have no regrets. After reading a few tutorials it was easy as ABC !
Like it was said before It's up to you, I dont intend to convince anyone, but If you wanna do it, go doing some searches. This forum has some tutorials, and anyone, even a noob can understand them.

These kind of questions are hard to answer all together, but I can tell you some things.
-you will need to have your bootloader unlocked in order to get ICS.
-i would actually recommend you stay on Gingerbread if you want a gaming experience!
-what you version of android do you have? 2.3.2,3,4?
Sent from my R800x using Tapatalk 2
How can i unlock my boot-loader hopefully without having to pay that dude 25 bucks but if that's the only way i may do it and its 2.3.4 i don't mind wiping it as far as staying on gingerbread could you recommend a good rom for that maybe one i can control and launch apps from locked screen with voice commands
oh and since sony sent me my last update none of the Google services work proper so any rom i load has to not have that problem

[Q] Justifies going to 2.3.4 to ICS rom - Xperia Play r800a?

Hello.... I'm new here and I have a question..
I have a Xperia Play r800a with android 2.3.4.
The latest news are that the official ICS will not be for our xperia play... that made a lot of people sad... including me..
But there's a ICS rom and is possible to install it in the xperia play...
my question is.. is worth doing that?
Other questions that comes from the first:
updating the xperia play to ICS will bring benefits? or will bring problems?
I don't use the xperia play to play the official xperia play games, I use it to play emulators (NES, GBA, PSX, SNES, etc) so if the only problem is for gaming the offical games, that don't bother me...
I apreciate the information and recomendations you could give about this unofficial ICS rom... if justifies the change!
Thanx a lot.. and sorry for my english!

Hello.... I'm new here and I have a question..
Welcome to the scene! So there are quite a lot of ICS roms out for r800 devices with unlocked devices. Forgive me if I'm wrong; however I'm fairly certain that unfortunately there are no hassle free methods of unlocking R800a. The only way to unlock it is through the testpoint method, which unlocks sim also. A programme named "omnius" is used and it is a paid service. However the instructions are straight forward. The cost shouldn't be more than a few dollars or so, but you got to check into that. Again I may be wrong
As for the ROMs I have personally used emulators and played games like Mortal combat and Tekken 3, and worked like mint. Of course the touchpad I didn't use as they weren’t needed. But I only used the dpads. So the buttons and not the touch sensitive thing. Main features work best on the ICS official beta that was released. Using that you get pretty much everything working.
and here is the link for that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1571463
1) Is it worth it, well for me 101% yes it is. But i remember my first days I found things difficult and if you want to do it, do it in a weekend, get a can of coke and get working as it may take you a whole day to get your head around flashing ROMs.
Good thing: You can always flash a FTF stock firmware through Flashtool that basically it would reverse your phone, to its factory default state. These include, Rom, Kernal, Baseband and so on. So by doing that almost as nothing has ever been done, if you didn't like it
Bad thing: Your warranty will be void upon unlocking your bootloader, however I just used the blagus Relock tool and got my phone fixed when it broke. But some say I'm a lucky guy as they check the DRM key and Blagus tools doesn't bring back those keys that will be wiped clean upon unlocking bootloader.
But I actually don't use the Official beta as I like CM9 better. Some minor features like Wifi tethering are a WIP but heck who cares. I like it as it's smooth and fast.
Hope this helped and good luck

Thank you so much!
So there's a lot of pros with the ICS rom!!
Which are the main problems of this rom version? you said that you had problems with the wifi, are there more?
Thanx again!
other thing.... sorry for my lack of knowledge.... Is ther any Tutorial I can follow?
regards.
Yes, as I said there are minor issues such as WiFi tethering. Again not the Wifi itself but tethering. Some say battery lasts longer on stock ROMs and does not last as much on ICS which I don't believe in. I personally think battery life is infact better. Some other minor issue are things like video recorder which is a problem with Cyanogenmod. So if you flash the [ROM][PLAY][GSM] ICS++ [Update: Version 1.2 01/05] which the link for is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599906
You would have almost no BUGs and every feature is functional.
But you can sacrifice some minor issues and go for a Cyanogenmod which would give you a MUCH MUCH faster and smoother user experience. The ROM is clean and has no annoying Xperia Play apps that take space. But you have lot of flexibility.
Yes there are many tutorials on how to do this. However you would find many tutorials that are designed only for R800i devices and I believe R800a are not so easy to unlock.
may this link may help: http://unlock-bootloader.com/
I have ready that many with the same device as yours have already done it throguh the sue of Omnius.
http://www.omnius-server.com/buy_client
But a 1 month subscription and they should provide you a detailed guide on how to unlock the bootloader. Infact have a look over the website and find xperia play and they offer many other features too. But I mean these things I know from past and I haven't looked into R800a much. So try searching for similar queries and you may be lucky and there maybe an even free solution to unlock bootloader. YOu need unlocked bootloader to flash custome roms.
But then again these are all up to how much you want it. You are not the only one you is new and interested. Since sony said there will be no update for Xperia play many have joined this community and take advantage of ICS. I have to say it is a much gaster ROM than GB. YOu can use google chrome which is pretty sweet and with all that, it may look and will be tough. But you will learn and becomes much easier and the community would help you out a lot!
Good luck mate
If you really want to see some tutorial on how to unlock bootloader for free then here are some link that some people have used to unlock their device.
In this video, you see the location of the testpoint.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFhjmtyyy6E
Then you must follow this guide and you have an unlocked bootloader, but still the drm rights
http://androidflip.com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
PLEASE, this may not work on your device and I'm not responsible for anything that might happen. Do a through research before doing anything! Good luck
Thanx again!!

2. Unbricking/Resurrecting SGSII
3. ROOTING LT26W
4.ROOTING Desire C.
5. Downloading files for PC upgrades

10. I want some of you to know that im really not familiar/a NOOB to XPERIA units/phones since i highly prefer to use SAMSUNG PHONES. i am taking precautions, cause it is better to be safe than sorry.
I asked the stupidest question in SGS and T-Vibrant and it was answered by one of the senior member with full instructions and tips....

Desire for a pure android experience (v500-›v510)?

Dear Sirs,
please forgive me for asking this, but from two days of searching on this forum I still cannot answer myself this.. (seems im not asking myself the right questions)
I have been an i-device user, but with a need for an 8inch tab i also decided its about time to try out some android awesomeness. Luckily as it seems LG offers this perfect size of 8.3" and a possibility of a pure android system. Since im from europe i can only find a stock LG version (non-GPA) which i really do not want. Imho, a crime much like cutting a nice glass of whisky with some coke. So the question is:
Can i buy the LGA version and transform it into a GPA version, without voiding my warranty? (Possibility to revert?) How hard is this to do, and what would be the best way?
Appreciate your time&effort,
Alexander

Conversion from a 500 to a 510 is currently not a known white or black magic incantation. The voodoo involved seems to be a few minor hardware differences that results in no wifi or bluetooth working when people attempt the switch.
Your fellow magic-users do appreciate it if you search first... However the proper search incantation must have eluded you in this case!
(hopefully you found this funny, as it was meant to be, and yes I even answered your question)
The closest you can get with a 500 is picking a rom that stays close to AOSP...
Thanks! A true gentleman and indeed quite amusing, life is better with a grain of satire I realise this must have been discussed before, but as a novice to this world, obviously my quarries had indeed been weak. In my defense though, there is a tonne of misinformation out there on the great webs.
So something like this would be the best bet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/development/rom-android-5-0-lollipop-lrx21m-t2941207
And is there also a bulletproof way to restore to the original LGA state in case one needs to claim warranty?

I apologize for the late reply... I typically run CM12 myself I do not have direct experience with the rom you specified here.
You can restore the tablet to the factory condition. I just did it myself last night. I'll see if I can find the thread that documents the method that I use and add it to this post.
The approach that I use (and just used again last night) is detailed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
Those instructions are for the G2 however I have used that app on both my G3 and my V500 to get them back to pure stock. If you have never plugged your tablet into your computer when it is in download mode, it will take a while for the drivers to install. Once they are installed you should not have to type anything in (if the program is prompting you for information you have not got it right yet). The instructions for the factory reset and download mode entry are not the correct key combinations, but otherwise the procedure does work...
Superb! Thanks alot. As you can see from my signature i have gone ahead an got myself one of theese. Im loving it in every way (except he doesnt wanna jive with airplay all to well), but once decluttered, the lg rom is not that bad. Knowing i can restore everything back, calms my mind about trying rooting and stuff. I heard even airplay can work better once rooted..
