Please help. I don't know what went wrong. Neither CWM nor Android will write to it.
Edit: A different SD Card is working. If anyone would like to venture a guess as to why this happened, I really don't want to wipe my card. Stuck with 4gb till then, so hopefully it works until I figure out the problem.

You might also want to try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.sdcardpermissionfix&hl=en
or this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458021
Both require root and the second method requires cwm.
Haven't tried either so I'm not sure if they'll work but you can give it a try.
If all else fails you can always copy all the files to your comp, format the card, and copy everything back on it, and if they doesn't work, then it could be a device issue or a faulty card.
Not sure if this helps but maybe try running Darkside Cache Wipe? It fixes the permissions properly and aligns the disks. Wouldn't hurt.

Hey my phone keeps popping up with an error saying sd card mounted as read only. I've read about fixes bit they haven't worked for me. My question isn't whether anyone has a fix but whether I should unroot my phone before taking it to sprint

Yup. Use an RUU. You can get them here:

Thanks

Before you unroot and return it. I had the same problem, and was able to fix it by booting to recovery, Mounting USB through recovery, and using my computer to perform a full (not quick) Fat32 format on the card.
Same thing happened to me, its more than likely a SD card issue. I had to format mine to get it to work, but yes its better to be safe than sorry root before returning

Yesterday I picked up a replacement evo. The replacement was a brand new phone, not a refurbished.
Sprint swapped out SD cards at the store from my old evo to the new one and had issue starting it. Phone froze up a several times before he could see if it made phone calls.
I fully charged it and updated prl and profile and still had constant reboots and freezes.
So I rooted my phone to see if a different rom would help and I'm still having the same issues.
My question is, do I need to maybe format my SD card? If so do I need to save any files and folders?
Also I'm currently running cm6, do I need to unroot and put the default rom back on?
Thank you.

I think the cleanest method would be to unroot and put the original ruu on the phone. Either way you should back up your sd card on your pc so you dont loose any information.

What files if any do I need to put back on the SD card?
Or do I just format it and restart the phone
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Just your personal files.....any files needed for re-rooting can always be downloaded again....additionally, you don't want to assume the method you used to root your old phone would be the same way for your new one...

So if unroot my phone and go back to the stock rom, I can then proceed to format my SD card and my evo will still boot?
I don't need to transfer over any system files or folders?

same problem
I have a similiar issue where my evo is not reading my SD now. Tried to backup and retore nandroid and it would never complete. I am assuming the SD may be damaged, however when I boot into recovery it reads everything that is on the SD when I go to flash ROM from SD. I would like to format and see if this is the problem, but will that erase the rom i am currently using?

Formatting your SD Card will do nothing to your ROM

Yes, your phone will still boot. Do not transfer over system files or folders, just transfer pictures/video/etc. from your SD card to your computer, unroot, run the RUU (DO NOT RUN THE 2.3 RUU YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ROOT), then format your card. Oh, and do not accept the OTA Update they are pushing.
Or, you could format it in recovery and see what happens. If you are using AmonRa, go to Wipe ---> SD Card. (Remember - transfer your files to your computer)
My epic 4g touch is doing bootloop in the 4g screen. Need help. any ideals how to recover this. I tried flashing rom but clockwork sees no files in external sd card. Plus, how do you transfter files to your internal sdcard in clockwork?Any help is appreciated. Thanks
When I had to recover from a bootloop I actually had to remove my sdcard, put the phone in download mode and reflash it. Flashing with a .tar on your SD card has caused many problems for me =/
As a rule, here is my emergency ROM evacuation plan:
1) Can I get to recovery? If so, I will simply wipe everything (factoryh reset) then reflash fresh.
2) If not, then just boot to download mode (power+volDown) and Odin over a clean kernel (most bootloop issues are going to be from a kernel issue)
3) If all that doesn't work, then flash a stock rom from scratch using Odin
It sounds like 1 is not an option to you. I don't think you can copy from sd to internal without mounting them on a pc and doing the copy on that side.
In any event, you are gonna need a PC.
HTH
You can put files on your SD card by enabling SD mount somewhere within cwm. However I would listen to that guy^
That is probably the best way to "abort" a ROM

With ICS, I haven't been able to mount anything but internal storage... But I have been rooting since I got my first Intercept on day 1. I'm a danger seeker
Ok I took the plunge and installed CWM and Ardatdat Kernel. Thank you to both Ardatdat and utkanos for your wonderful work. Now I made a Nandroid backup of my phone and I have lots installed so it is big. It comes to 1.897.535.488 ok close to 2GB. Now It of course places this in the SDcard as it does not see my 32GB MicroSD card. Everything great so far.
Here is the question....
If I transfer this to my MicroSD to save room on the SDcard internal. If something goes wrong and I screw up on installing another rom and the phone does not boot, how do I get it from the MicroSD Card to the internal SDcard???
I am kinda stumped on that one. Only thing I can think of is before trying any new Rom make sure I transfer back those 2GB of Backup files to the SDcard.
Please any help on this would be appreciated.
Hey mate,
I've done the similar thing. It's a but weird having the mount point for the external sd card /within/ the mount point for the internal storage...
I thought that I had read that the mount points used in the CWM were configurable... But I'm not certain. I will have a read over some of their docos and see what I find..

I kept mine on the computer, so whenever I need to restore, it's right there.
How? Is it not only a CWM file? Can you use the nandroid backup files via ODIN? Because as I am saying, say your phone no longer boots and you need to replace the ROM and your nandroid backup is on your computer how do you place it on your phone's SD card to flash with CWM. (Assuming Odin does not work) If Odin Works then you just flash via ODIN and on the computer is fine.
Can you map to your External card via CWM?
See, I also have an HTC Desire HD for other purposes, and when I tried to put a new rom, it would be stuck at bootloop. There is this option in CMW Recovery that lets you still view the files on the computer (Mount), and exchange files. Then from there you navigate to where you put the backup via backup and restore, and boot it.
CWM should always be there with the Vol down + Power buttons, and you should be able to recover it.
It's my first time experiencing with Odin since I got this device, so I really don't know much about it.

Very interesting are you telling me that you can mount your computer's hard drive on to your phone? Is there somewhere I can read about clockwork mod?
No, he's saying that you can mount your phone to the computer from recovery.

Cool just tried this and it works great. This makes complete sense. Now is there anyway to mount my 32GB card in Clockwork mod?

Look in the CWM thread. Pretty sure it's possible, but it takes an editing/adding of code
Hi, wondering if someone might be able to help me out.
Trying to do a nand back-up but it keeps failing with an error of
"Errror while making a backup image of /data!"
I've tried to upgrade to cwm 5.8.1.3 same thing. formated my SD card and same thing.
Any suggestions?
thank you
just wanted to add, i've done backups and restores in the past with no problems until now
Do you have an external sd card?

How many backups do you currently have? Remove some old one to make room for new ones

Did you rename the file? If you did, it needs to not have any spaces. Soithastolooklikethis.

sd is full
My guess it's because your sd is full, make some room and try again. Backup important files to your pc and save a couple gigs for the space the backup needs. Also, I have found that backing up from the rom manager app and rebooting recovery and backing up from cwm recovery produces different md5 sums, so I generally only backup while in recovery and not from the rom manager app itself.
hi folks,
thanks for the replies but the sd card isn't full as i've formatted it so there's no way the external is full.
come on, i'm not that big of a noob

I've done tons of back ups in the past month, and restores, but I just recently started getting the error as in the op, and now it runs until it gets to image back up, and says it errors backing that up, and then quits. I have 6 GB free on my card, and I only keep the last successful back up in case of fails like this. I haven't changed anything on my own, and the same ROM I backed up last week I now can't. Somewhere something went bad I'm guessing, but I'm glad it's not me that did something wrong. I will try an internal save to see if that works. If that works then I will wipe my card's CW file, and try a fresh one. Maybe just doing a complete factory reset, and fresh new ROM will do the trick. I'll keep ya all posted since more than one is having this issue.

No go for me. Just re-flashed CWM, and it still fails trying to back up image to either internal or external. ugh
Well I flashed a new rom from scratch, and now it works again. The old one must have gotten corrupt.
