boot loop - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

My epic 4g touch is doing bootloop in the 4g screen. Need help. any ideals how to recover this. I tried flashing rom but clockwork sees no files in external sd card. Plus, how do you transfter files to your internal sdcard in clockwork?Any help is appreciated. Thanks

When I had to recover from a bootloop I actually had to remove my sdcard, put the phone in download mode and reflash it. Flashing with a .tar on your SD card has caused many problems for me =/

As a rule, here is my emergency ROM evacuation plan:
1) Can I get to recovery? If so, I will simply wipe everything (factoryh reset) then reflash fresh.
2) If not, then just boot to download mode (power+volDown) and Odin over a clean kernel (most bootloop issues are going to be from a kernel issue)
3) If all that doesn't work, then flash a stock rom from scratch using Odin
It sounds like 1 is not an option to you. I don't think you can copy from sd to internal without mounting them on a pc and doing the copy on that side.
In any event, you are gonna need a PC.
HTH

You can put files on your SD card by enabling SD mount somewhere within cwm. However I would listen to that guy^
That is probably the best way to "abort" a ROM

Oh and I wanted to ask: what ROM did you install because SD mounting doesn't work with any of the AOSP ICS ROMs...

With ICS, I haven't been able to mount anything but internal storage... But I have been rooting since I got my first Intercept on day 1. I'm a danger seeker

Format SD card?

Yesterday I picked up a replacement evo. The replacement was a brand new phone, not a refurbished.
Sprint swapped out SD cards at the store from my old evo to the new one and had issue starting it. Phone froze up a several times before he could see if it made phone calls.
I fully charged it and updated prl and profile and still had constant reboots and freezes.
So I rooted my phone to see if a different rom would help and I'm still having the same issues.
My question is, do I need to maybe format my SD card? If so do I need to save any files and folders?
Also I'm currently running cm6, do I need to unroot and put the default rom back on?
Thank you.

I think the cleanest method would be to unroot and put the original ruu on the phone. Either way you should back up your sd card on your pc so you dont loose any information.

What files if any do I need to put back on the SD card?
Or do I just format it and restart the phone
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Just your personal files.....any files needed for re-rooting can always be downloaded again....additionally, you don't want to assume the method you used to root your old phone would be the same way for your new one...

So if unroot my phone and go back to the stock rom, I can then proceed to format my SD card and my evo will still boot?
I don't need to transfer over any system files or folders?

same problem
I have a similiar issue where my evo is not reading my SD now. Tried to backup and retore nandroid and it would never complete. I am assuming the SD may be damaged, however when I boot into recovery it reads everything that is on the SD when I go to flash ROM from SD. I would like to format and see if this is the problem, but will that erase the rom i am currently using?

Formatting your SD Card will do nothing to your ROM

Yes, your phone will still boot. Do not transfer over system files or folders, just transfer pictures/video/etc. from your SD card to your computer, unroot, run the RUU (DO NOT RUN THE 2.3 RUU YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ROOT), then format your card. Oh, and do not accept the OTA Update they are pushing.
Or, you could format it in recovery and see what happens. If you are using AmonRa, go to Wipe ---> SD Card. (Remember - transfer your files to your computer)

[Q] Accidently deleted everything on sd card, phone, help!!

I have a year old evo 4G,had cm7 stable, nightlys, beta sense 3.5 rom's,and I deleted everything from phone and sd card,The sd seems like its not putting any new roms to the phone,It boots up to the htc evo 4g screen, then to the sense ''black screen that says' andriod' then just stays there..i go into recovery and install zip and phone says no such files found, bad sd card? Any new rooted stock sense roms to put in then build from there? I don't want the bloat crap,I must be able to remove it,phone has been rooted for a year using unevoked,s-off,Hboot-2.10.0001,Touch panel-atelc03_16ac,Radio-1.36.00.04.02,oct 15 2010...I really need to get this thing working again, boss is always calling me,and I don't want to get into a shouting match over my useless phone, not hat i care anyway... but any help would be helpful.. FYI,Last rom I was on was KINGS bliss and I did a factory reset on that rom,Stupid noobie....
If your on amon ra plug your phone into your computer and in recovery enable usb-ms toggle and then you will be able to put a ROM on your SD card

Do the same thing for clockwork but instead of usb-ms toggle go to mounts and then you will see a option that says usb mass storage

I'm doing this as of the moment.
Ok,got that right now,What's next? just go to yur rom dowloads, right? Maybe flash vr.superwipe before I proceed to a new rom? No go,Gets stuck at box with arrow to little andriod guy,Well what now should I toggle anything? Just choose apply zip?
On the computer download a ROM and then put the Rom onto the root of the SD card of the phone.then you will have a ROM to flash in recovery

Kings bliss rom worked for a day and half,no problems,I don't care about 4G,I live in the sticks, but after a while,It kept telling me andriod.process.acore whatever forcelosed,And the phone will not accept any downloaded roms now, from the regular computer I have,On the previous posts,It did work, the bliss rom,and with the app market,Now I'm right back at a blank phone again...hboot comes up,recovery comes up,But i download a rom,to sd card...Forget it,tells me no such files found now,Didn't do that before,or Am I missing the steps to load a rom to the phone?
I have a feeling this beta Kings bliss rom, screws evrything up,I know it's beta ,but....It worked good for me at first, till week later,WTF...
Are you just trying to reflash a ROM onto your phone or are you wanting to recover everything that you deleted from your SD card?
If you are wanting to recover the data you deleted from your SD card I recommend mounting the card to your computer via your recovery and then running file scavenger (free to download) to recover the deleted files.
after you recover your files with filescav then you can reformat the SD card, replace the contents of the card, and continue on your merry way without having to start over from scratch.
I'm trying to dowload a ROM to the sd card,I extracted files to sd card via recovery and micro sd adapter,Then I try to choose zip, apply and always says no such files, always says E-can't open sd/card/update.zip,Installation aborted...I tried 3 diff sd cards, even bought a brand new one with nothing on it,the files are there on the card but...Am I missing something here??? Always worked in the past.... And Yes,I'm trying to re-flash a diff ROM,I'm staying away from the KingsBliss Beta Rom till it gets striaghtened out...

Nothing important from what I know its just if you were to partition ur sd card.. Also I can upload mikg amon_ra that u can flash via bootloader if you need it. I was getting amazing sd speeds with that recovery...
Really?I will try this, but I have to delete the 2.3.5 google stuff first,It kept rebooting on me after dowloading a app from the market,I just wanted to try it,This rom is my brand new back-up,No more stock evo rom anymore,I just want to get the sd-ext working again,Any gapps files floating around for 2.3.7?? For some reason, any file installs from sd,but phone tells me ist's empty,I will try the partition,I just want the sd cards I have working 100% again,I have 2GB worth of Roms to use on my computer,I just like flashing,I guess...But yeah I will research mikeg Armon-ra,where Do I look??I was thinking about it when I was figiuring how to get the evo going again...

[Q] Can't restore because of sd card not mounted?

My phone was rooted and I did a backup before flashing it to a starburst v1.7 rom. I did everything correct and now my phone just keeps doing a soft reboot every 10 seconds no matter what.
When I tried to restore it from the CWM recovery screen it says "error sd card not mounted", so therefore I can't even restore. I've done the rooting and flashing soo many times on my other android phone right before I switched to Sprint.
Is there anything I can do?
Thanks
Ddownload a .tar file and flash stick rom and kernal and try again?
Did u access cwm manually? Try to use rom manager off the market see what happen. Internal sd or external sd u talking about? When u access to cwm mount and storage check there too.

Hello,
I had this same problem, just go back to stock using Odin & you will be good to go. You can also trying updating to the latest clockword- that has worked for me before as well.
There were some rushed CWM builds released. You may want to try a newer release

Ok, this is what you do.
In cmw, there is an option to mount the phone to a computer, i cant recall where it is in this version. After selecting it, connect your phone to your computer, and move your backup from ur sd card to the phones internal memory, and then restore it from internal memory.

Where to keep Nandroid Backup

Ok I took the plunge and installed CWM and Ardatdat Kernel. Thank you to both Ardatdat and utkanos for your wonderful work. Now I made a Nandroid backup of my phone and I have lots installed so it is big. It comes to 1.897.535.488 ok close to 2GB. Now It of course places this in the SDcard as it does not see my 32GB MicroSD card. Everything great so far.
Here is the question....
If I transfer this to my MicroSD to save room on the SDcard internal. If something goes wrong and I screw up on installing another rom and the phone does not boot, how do I get it from the MicroSD Card to the internal SDcard???
I am kinda stumped on that one. Only thing I can think of is before trying any new Rom make sure I transfer back those 2GB of Backup files to the SDcard.
Please any help on this would be appreciated.
Hey mate,
I've done the similar thing. It's a but weird having the mount point for the external sd card /within/ the mount point for the internal storage...
I thought that I had read that the mount points used in the CWM were configurable... But I'm not certain. I will have a read over some of their docos and see what I find..

I kept mine on the computer, so whenever I need to restore, it's right there.
How? Is it not only a CWM file? Can you use the nandroid backup files via ODIN? Because as I am saying, say your phone no longer boots and you need to replace the ROM and your nandroid backup is on your computer how do you place it on your phone's SD card to flash with CWM. (Assuming Odin does not work) If Odin Works then you just flash via ODIN and on the computer is fine.
Can you map to your External card via CWM?
See, I also have an HTC Desire HD for other purposes, and when I tried to put a new rom, it would be stuck at bootloop. There is this option in CMW Recovery that lets you still view the files on the computer (Mount), and exchange files. Then from there you navigate to where you put the backup via backup and restore, and boot it.
CWM should always be there with the Vol down + Power buttons, and you should be able to recover it.
It's my first time experiencing with Odin since I got this device, so I really don't know much about it.

[Q] Formatted internal memory....... I didnt intend to

Hello got. An issue. was using TWRP was attempting to format a 4gig sd card and somehow my internal storage was forrmatted instead. (I think so cause the sd card still has old files on it.) Twrp saidit partitioned ad formatted ext sd then I chose option to reboot into system mode.my phone shut down and has not come back. Is there a fix or did I just make an expensive brick? Thanks
You more then likely erased your rom. Do a battery pull then boot into recovery and reflash your rom.

No I wasn't in wipe menu I was in advanced menu chose partition SD card.I can't boot to recovery. My phone wont do anything at all. I'm stuck is there a solution?
It sounds like a brick if you can get into recovery mode or anything. Basically you need to either send it in if you have warranty on it. If not that then you could buy a jig and use that to unbrick your phone. Those are really your only options.
