Hi there
I got a Docomo Nexus. I have a galaxy s2 also. I thought I would had the same challenges here...
Guess what... i installed Cwm. The only challenge for me. Installed latest Akop and for the first time I am not changing a rom from 3 days. Everything works here.
I am getting bored. please give dome directions to have fun and play with my phone.
For example. Is there a kernel that gives somehow better battery life? Any other rom better than Akop? Any substitute for macro feature missing in the camera app?
I used to search for perfection in galaxy S2 and I was switching between cm9, custom roms to find a perfection...please understand me, hope so...

First of all, AOKP is not the best ROM. CM9 is faster and Slim ICS is the fastest ROM with the same features as AOKP.
Secondly, I'd recommend finding something else to do with your time than worry about how your phone is "boring".

I understand your reasoning. Since we already have the latest and greatest there's not much to look forward to until Jelly Bean leaks.
Play Frisbee golf with your nexus?
zippity doo da.
Finding the answers to the questions that you asked is half the fun, for me at least. If there was a definitive "best" ROM or kernel there would be very little need for such a development based community. If you are looking for fun I would suggest looking at the market for one of the many games available.

What is true differs for every person. For example, you couldn't pay me to use AOKP (do not ask why, I won't tell you).
Do I believe that any rom is faster than any other? No I do not. Do I believe kernels can change that? Yes I do.

So what do you use? I see you're a developer: do you have your own rom? Pardon my ignorance I'm still new here. Have yet to remember a username and connect that with the work they've done.
If I guess right will you tell me? Do they work for the government and have installed keyloggers so when we say anti obama things to our friends in texts the black choppers will show up at your house, and if you tell anyone they will kill you? If so I wouldn't use it either... Or tell me why
I have gone AWOL as of last release (too much personal business to handle) but I work with a team. We put out BAMF Paradigm. I am but one member, and certainly not the main one.
My reasonings for not using AOKP are not because of that, however
I use Paradigm 1.2 with my own modifications.

I've been looking for 3rd party apps that follow the ICS guidelines. Makes the phone much more fun.

i started with AOKP and never regret it, i also tested SlimICS which for sure has not same features as aokp, i also tested liquid which is nice but only english, i also tried cm9, also nice but i miss the aokp stuff in it.
For me AOKP is the best, i always come back to it and now i will stay with it, it has everything i want and just works.
For kernel i use Imoseyons Leankernel which worked for me always the best, i get around 3h also sometimes 3 1/2h screen ontime with it, and over night it loose almost nothing.
I tried also francos kernel, which is also nice, but with it i had sod issues and other stuff, but it is still a good kernel many people love it, i will stay with Leankernel.
been on it since day 1 both are released cause everyone told me they are the best. when i'm playing games or music, it lags. i click the power screen on button and it stays black until i click it like 5x and wait 30 seconds. battery life is terrible, i get like 3 hours under constant screen on usage which is ridic because i can't even leave the house without it dying
need a new combo
you suck. AOKP and Franco are the best....along with CM team
I just jumped back on AOKP + Franco after trying a ton of different combo's (CM9, Liquid, MIUI, Stock | Leankernel, GladOs, Faux) and this is by far the smoothest + most customize able setup you can have. Try backing everything up and doing a clean restore.
rascream rom + trinity kernel.. cant go wrong with this combo.
Try Slim ICS which comes with Lean Kernel. Just change the launcher if you don't like zeam.
Paranoid Android is a good rom also fn to play around with the dpi settings.
Personally I haven't had the troubles you had with AOKP and Franco. They run fine, I just get bored with roms after a few weeks. Perhaps your problems stem from apps you have installed. Have you tried running CPU spy or better battery stats to see what might be causing your troubles?
If it sucks so bad, make your own

Eh, it's just a trolly kind of day on XDA today.
I just got my GN the other night and first thing I did was put on the AOKP/Franco combination and I really like it. I was a very heavy user on my first day yesterday setting the phone up and all, plus it was the first full day after a nights charge.
I got home after work and I had 30% left after 13 hours. That makes me a happy camper. It can only get better from there as I slow down my usage.

Slim ICS has been REEALLY good for me, but then again every phone is different. I like Slim, Gummy, and Android Revolution HD. Give one of those a try.
Another thing you might want to check is which profile you have under setcpu or in the ROM options. If you have it set to hotplug (where one core is shut down when the phone goes to sleep) then that could cause the "wake up" issue.

Also, OP, I am not fond of Liquid but have heard of a lot of great things about it.
I've had AOKP MS5 & Franco's MS3 for the past couple weeks and I get 3 and a half hours+ screen on time and 24 hours on one charge. Not sure what you're problem is but that combo for me has been the best. Just updated to AOKP 37 btw.

read the cm9 thread in the dev section, does everything you use on your phone work? it'll probably work as a daily then... if so are there posts from people saying its caused their phone to explode, molest their pets, go on strike, become sentient??? no? ok, then flash it, its cyanogenmod dude, it doesn't differ that much from device to device, that's kind of the point of it...
CM9 is good for daily use
I used CM9 for my daily use since alpha 3 launched. It will definitely work for your daily use. I never had any serious issues. It runs greats, my battery life with the proper settings was great. I know i used to have trouble with chrome but I think that's a thing of the past.I ended up using opera, so I never checked to see if chrome worked again or not. However, chrome is working fine on the AOKP milestone 6 Rom, so I would assume it works.
Only other thing I would say is like the other guys said, try a bunch of different Roms till you find what you like. All the devs have done a great job and as long as you have the skills to flash between different Roms I would highly recommend giving any Rom that you think looks interesting a spin for a day or so until you find your favorites.
So my Gnex should be coming in the mail tonight im curious what is the most stable and most customizable rom availible...
I have a skyrocket and im using cm9 rc2 im sure she will be just fine with that but I was curious if anyone specifically likes anything other than cm, I have never used aokp and I hear there is a lot of custom features but I have also heard theres just too many?
Really I'm curious of the most STABLE/FAST/RESPONSIVE/ and purple* lol that last one im sure I can just find a theme

stock. put some flowers in the background or something
Stock for now, but another aftermarket ROM that I gave to my wife for her HTC Incredible is MIUI. Look for a previous build though (GB), the new ones are utter sh*t IMHO. I've had a lot of fun with MIUI back in the days of FroYo.
Stock rooted jb its great.
If she's a "below average" user.
Then stock JB.
If she wants to have fun with phone and is actually able to remember things about the phone, CM9/10
If she wants to get all complicated, then AOKP.
--------------------------------------------------
If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
Bleh stock... I suppose that's not a bad option on aosp the words stock on her old phones are terrible because of touchwiz and Moto blur
Cm9 is pretty stable though i assume. Any bugs?
CM9 Skyrocket
Stock anything, rooted for AdAway but that's probably about it. I've had too many experiences with non-power users doing that angry thing people do when they don't comprehend technology.
MIUI. Simple, clean, extremely customizable.
My gf doesn't even want to try a new rom, she really seem to enjoy it.
BUT, and this is major point, my gf actually isn't that much into technology, so i assume she just wants the cutest and most user friendly experience.

More power to ya! I know hardly any women who even know what rooting is to begin with. The wife has watched me root more than 20 or so different phones I've run through for the last 3 yrs and STILL asks me questions when I explain it. I have been asked to root about 4 or 5 of hers on occasion though...thinking of pimpin out her S3 for her though.

It's not that girls can't use ROMs, its that he's talking about rooting and ROMing her phone when she has no idea what's going on. I'm all about girls being into hacking phones, but only if they do it themselves!
I don't condone rooting and ROMing someone else's phone unless they know what's going on and could do it themselves.
I guess I'd just leave it stock and make her a custom Fashion Barbie Nerdgirl of the Undead theme or something, for brownie points.

True. I recently passed my sgs2 on to my dad to use on tmo prepaid & I put that thing back to stock, rooted rom for him.
However, on aokp, I have no data drops, GPS issues, any problems etc... so I don't really see an issue with that.

Am I the only person in the world that chose ICS over JB?
When I got my Nexus GSM, I instantly upgraded it to JB. Don't misunderstand me, JB was really awesome. However, simple and featureless... I supposed that's why people make ROMs, to build on what Google gave us.
Well, I like features, lots of features, so I installed AOKP M6. And I absolutely love that ROM, but I am wondering if there is anything comparable to it that's JB based. Guess in my mind I am waiting for AOKP JB ROM to move into couple milestone revisions...
AOKP's current builds can be found here:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/30659-all-devices-in-source-aokp-jellybean-nightlies-update-nightly/
(Sorry for cross-forum posting...TeamKang is Rootzwiki exclusive now. I don't want to step on any toes by posting this thread on XDA)
They're lacking in comparison to the ICS builds...but if you check the change-log in the OP...it's got quite a bit.
But no, you're not alone.
I stayed on ICS a lot longer than most did. I only switched over due to my love of AOKP...and the fact that %90 of my "required" mods are already included. Except for the Remove NavBar option...but I've been making a flashable .zip for that since they were first released for personal use and for anyone else who wants it.
Nope. Recently downgraded again, see my signature. xD

I stayed on M6 until two days ago.
I finally thought JB had evolved enough.
Happy so far.

Some people just like it simple, that's part of why they chose to go with a nexus.
Android is beautiful.
I went the opposite way, at least for a time. I typically "require" the features found in CM, but ran Bigxie's stock builds for a few weeks and was very happy that way, just had to install a few apps to fill in the gaps, notification toggles, an app for profiles and quiet hours, etc... The overall feel of JB trumped that of ICS for me. For me even a vanilla JB build is better than a great ICS build with customizations, etc...
That said, I've been on a CM10 kang for 2-3 weeks now.
This thread makes no sense. You don't like ICS better. Its just that aokp happened to not merge everything yet. Once there is a JB equivalent are you still saying you'd stay with ICS?

I've been considering downgrading to ICS for the sake of having better Lightflow reliability. Even after the July 17 update, it's still not working right for me. Tried a bunch of options, nothing made too much difference.
I tend to go back and forth because HBOgo and MAXgo aren't compatible with jb yet. But that's the only reason to go back for me.

I stayed with ICS til less than a week ago, but I'm now running JB liquid. It has all the features I've grown accustomed to minus hold power key to toggle torch (which only worked 30% of the time anyway).
My only problem is auto brightness doesn't work as smoothly as on ICS (solved with a configurable brightness toggle), and GPS take about 15 seconds longer to lock. Both seem to be universal to JB.
