I am really hoping that in the next update Google would included picture sharing through NFC. Do you think they will finally include this in the next update?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
You could have just asked this in one of the Jelly bean discussion threads.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Are you really missing out on that much with the inability to share photos via NFC?
How about S Beam, that's the feature I want.
But again there's a bigger more populated Jelly Bean thread this should be in.
Can we stop making more threads about Jellybean? There are already ones running.
NFC doesn't share pictures anyway. It acts as a matchmaker.

They certainly could. JB already includes wifi-direct, so all they would need to do is tap into that. Although I think it is just as gimmicky as Beam in general.

Android Beam allows apps to share all kinds of data. Day 2 of Google I/O will have a session on Beam and NFC discussing new APIs presumably to allow even more sharing of content through beam for app developers.
What kind of connection speed does NFC have anyway? I was pondering what kind of cool things I could do with a tablet and phone with NFC just today. Also I've yet to come across anybody else with a nexus to try out beam with yet.
104-424 kbps max is the standard.
NFC is only going to make the secure connection, the data will have to be transferred via wifi or bluetooth.
Drewmungus said:

NFC is not necessarily used for the transfer but only to exchange data (like data telling the app where to get the object). For the user, they will not know whether the object was downloaded over the data connection or from the other phone.

Personally I don't think there are *enough* threads about JB. Moar! They sure beat the Make My Purchase Decisions For Me! and the There's An Insignificant Defect With My Phone! threads. And as noted above me, it don't matter if it gets sent over NFC or not, as the end user I wouldn't know the difference.

Not bad, cluttered. It's unnecessary for threads like this when there's already 10 others that have covered these questions. Also wouldn't it be more appropriate to ask this question in a thread full of people already talking about the topic, rather than making a whole new thread about one aspect of the topic?
Also look at your comment? How unnecessary is that? Rather than even say anything productive, you're making a condescending statement about the community.

I could be wrong, but it looks like Sprint/Samsung have put a diagnostic app back in (similar to carrier IQ). Not sure where it is in the app settings, but you can opt out in the about phone settings. Hopefully in the actual eventual ota they let the user choose on first boot instead.

I think this is their way of using Carrier IQ and the average user wont even think about what it is or disabling it so they win either way.

I know they announced work with Smith Micro, but I think that is only for data offloading, although Smith Micro does something very similar to Carrier IQ.
It is possible that at some point they may also go back to Carrier IQ as well. I think that would take place once all the lawsuits and questions regarding the EULA etc have been answered.

Just remember however this is a TEST build. right now Samsung is trying to see where things are going wrong as well as Sprint since they are most likely testing this on their network as well. If it's still there come OTA then it's something to worry about but till that point and time it would be nice to help samsung try and fix their issues.

I'd have to agree with you. While I am completely against spying of any sort without my input, this is a test build. This isn't a required update, nobody is forcing it down anyones throat. Everyone running it choose to install it. It's great that people are keeping a close eye on the movements of these companies but until there is legitimate cause for concern ie. an official release, nobody should get up in arms about this.

eh I'm here or there with that part right now. My reason is this with the builds being released (I'm sure some Sprint employees are using the build with devices in a test center) this could very well be to cover Sprints and samsungs butt if someone does see this app installed and it lets them know the reason for it as well. I do agree with you I don't like this stuff on my phone when it comes to an official release however right now most people (I myself till I went back to a Stock rom) were running an Alpha that does have issues so sending the data to Samsung to help them I don't see a problem with as it could work out well for us in the long run with a much better OTA release.

I think it has something to do with at least 10 other threads about the international galaxy s2 getting ICS.
I don't understand why everyone is so negative in this forum. It's almost uncomfortable spending time here sometimes.
bmakk2055 posted a link to information about the Samsung Galaxy S II. Yes, from a technical perspective it's obviously a different piece of hardware, but Samsung has given all of its variations the same name and branding. I think it's reasonable to assume they probably intend to handle them in a similar fashion.
No, he didn't post a concrete release date for our device - but it's useful and relevant data nonetheless. If nothing else, it offers clues as to Samsung's plans for the Galaxy S II brand.
Will you people calm down? OMGWTFBBQ!!!1! He wasted a thread!!! THIS COULD MOVE AN OLD THREAD TO THE *GASP* SECOND PAGE!!!!! Is there a finite amount of potential threads or something? Is XDA's server about to run out of disc space? This is a discussion board... not some strictly maintained community encyclopedia. We have stickies for that.
Anyway, I apologize for the wall of text. Thanks for the link bmakk2055. I'm glad you posted it.

Maybe because such irrelevant and dumb topics weren't posted before
Just thought there hasn't been an ICS post in the past couple hours so...
THEY HAVEN'T RELEASED ICS OR CM FOR THE T989 OMG!!!
Seriously...you don't even have to search...there are about 4 or 5 ICS posts on the front page...quit wasting our time and just be patient. The forum will blow up with about 100 posts when there actually is news about ICS....
As Reagan said...trust but verify. For all you idiots who find it neccisary to post every ICS scrap you can..
When you read some **** that says the GS2 has/is getting/drivers/etc for ICS, here is a simple step-by-step to determine weather you should post a thread to XDA:
1. Its probably for the international (i9100). We don't give a **** about the internatonal. Just stop reading and go about your business if you even see the word "international". Don't even look at the words if you see a button on the front of the phone on the picture. We don't have a button.
2. our AT&T counterpart is the SKYROCKET (t727). it looks EXACTLY like ours. not the AT&T SGS2 (t777). See 1 on how to deal with news about the AT&T SGS2.
3. If you still think the article has to do with our phone, look for T989. Push ctrl+f (or command+f) and type in t989. If it's not there, don't waste our time.
4. If you find T989 after pushing ctrl+f...read it in context. Most likely its an ad or just confirms you are an idiot for thinking the article meant ICS is coming to the t989.
5. Still hopeful? Repeat 3-4 and search t727.
6. If you are still unsure...repeat steps 1-5.
7. Still think its about the t989?? Just delete your XDA account.
8. Are you just crazy sure that it has to be about the t989?? Check XDA. Somebody will still post ICS threads every hour...
9. I'm sorry if you still think your news is about the t989 after going through all that you should just give up on life now.
10. Don't post anything. Just don't post. Period. Please. Don't. Post.
By following this simple 10-step process, you can determine weather you should post an ICS thread! And maybe it will cut down on ICS posts...I hope this helps you guys...
PS: Sorry if I seem like a troll and actually mislead somebody by my title...just sick of it as everyone else is.

Those factors being that the us has tons of variants using different processors. People sawsgs2 and assumed it meant for us.international did indeed get ics q1 as they said.

Well then. Didnt want to start another new thread, so as off topic as this might be: I keep seeing everyone say "just be patient! the upgrade is coming in the first quarter!" Is there some kind of confirmation of this somewhere? I cant find one article where it states this phone specifically will even recieve the ics upgrade. And now for my opinions piece: WHY THE EFF DIDNT I GO WITH HTC??!!!!! Thanks guys!

Hrrmm slower HW at time of release compared to T959,
Very easy to brick,
S-On/S-off,
No SAMOLED+ display,
Less Internal Storage,
Screen more fragile?
I think that is a good short summary, or at least all the reasons that kept me from going HTC and getting SGS2 when coming from the Vibrant.
As a Vibrant owner I know full well the pain of waiting for Official releases.
So does this mean we are getting it now? I didn't have time to read 2 pages..

Yes, we are getting ICS, right after the Vibrant gets Gingerbread.

Correct. And do to those timelines us carriers probably wont see ICS till probably Q2
People just see the galaxy name and don't realize its a family of devices.
But at the same time, why would samsung support only international, and leave their TOP SELLING DEVICE out?
So to say we wont get it is a little far fetched to say the least

That's what I figured! The official statement doesn't actually include ANY US versions of the GSII line. I can't stand US carriers anymore! Looks like I start saving now for my next phone in 2 years. Must...get...off...subsidized phones!
Everyone spam the tmobile discussion forum for the sgs2 and maybe we'll get a definate time table for annoying them so much

No one reads stickies. At least I never do. Stickies on forums are as annoying as scrolling thru ads.

Then what's the point in posting the forum rules in the forum rather then emailed to new accounts with activation?
There is a reason for a sticky you know, failure to read a sticky and posting around it is good cause for flaming or an infraction in my opinion.
Honestly, if u never read a sticky, should definately start..
And also, the title helps, you read this did you not?
I called into tech support to replace my charger and it said an update will be release in the next two weeks... then apon talking to tech support they verified it will be the update to 4.1!!! Here it comes and begins!!!!

I know your excited to get 4.1 as the rest of us are, but taking the word of anyone you can get on the phone at any of the networks should be taken with an ocean of sea salt.

It wasn't the word of just a person... the auto mated voice when u call in confrimes this... call and ask for tech support and listen to the recorded message!

I just called them, and yes when you ask for tech support, it does tell you about an update, I spoke to someone about it, its the T999UVLH2 update. Its still being rolled out to people. Not 4.1.
U are right sir just heard it for myself but it does not say 4.1 they are probably talking about UVALH2 still bring pushed out
I called, and the recording points you to www.t-mobile.com/support.
From there you can see the SGS3 link, which has a big green "software update available" button. Click that, and it clearly spells out that the update is for 4.0.4, T999UVLH2.

Looking forward to JellyBean too, but this ain't it.
With software updates it's never official until it's installed on your device.

Completely off topic but your signature is obnoxious. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful car. I love my WRX as well, but I don't post it in my signature forcing people to see it 5 times in one page of posts.

Agreed, I love cars, but this isn't a car forum lol. I hate having to block any viewing of signatures but it appears I might have to start doing that.
