I have never used the Sprint service but generally it doesn't. You could always set up a Google Voice and try it though.

I use this feature a lot for blocking both voice & texts.
When you block any number through the website the person who is being blocked has no idea. Your son can still text the number, he just can't receive a response. The only way he would know a number has been blocked from texting him is if he is standing next to the person, watches them text him but doesn't receive it. Then he's likely to get a hint.
I think you're wrong, but maybe I'm wrong too.
When blocking the number. If said friend is blocked it states, "this person has blocked you"<-not exact context. And if your son sends to said friend, it gives your son same message as well.
This might be though for 9999 blocking only.what i mean is
Text to 9999, "block #########"
Its going to send a message back stating its block status. You can also unblock the same way, and see the list of blocked numbers.

Thank you guys for the answers I have to be absolutely sure before I do. And when u block calls what happens when the said person calls or vise versa

To be exact the blocked person will receive this message when they are blocked from sending text messages
"From 9230, the recipient you are sending to has chosen not to receive messages from this sending address. Msg 2108"

I found the Mr. Number application from the Market was easier tho instead of logging on my dad's sprint account to block text and numbers.
But anyways
No more girly spam.
Text the word "block #" and replace # with the 10 digit number you want to block to 9999 you will get a confirmation message saying texts fro m that number as well as to that number are blocked. Free from Sprint.

Thats when the unwanted caller will just block the id or use a different phone number. Mr.number is a greap app, I have only allow calls from my contact list allowed and blocked calls go to voicemail. Who ever had my number before me had some serious credit issues and bill collectors dont seem to understand that he/she no longer uses this number. I've also got weird numbers like 0000 or 1111 that have called me. Mr. Number took care of all those annoyances.
I know Google Voice for Sprint is now supporting MMS...is there somewhere that people have unleashed this same power on the Verizon network?
Thanks in advance!
I believe so. My girlfriend received an mms through her email when someone sent it to her google voice number.

I heard you had to have text to email turned on for that. Can anyone confirm this? I'd rather not have my mailbox receiving tons of emails just to receive a few MMS.
So no knowledge of a difference in the Sprint version of Google Voice that enables the MMS to come through?
Sort of how the Blackboard app is only for Sprint, but a change was made that enabled it on all carriers?
I received one the other day, it sends a text then emails the text/picture to you.
EDIT: Also, I dont have email or anything turned on, it just forwards the email to you since the app doesn't support it yet.

Any idea how long it took to receive it? I had a friend text me twice with pictures attached around 2.5 hours ago and still nothing in my google voice inbox, my Gmail, or my text messages

It doesn't matter if you are on Sprint... it matters if the picture sender is on Sprint.
You will only get the picture forwarded to your email if the picture sender is on Sprint, regardless of what you are on. So the person who sent kangxi's girlfriend a picture is on Sprint. Same with the person who sent VinceT3 a picture.
This is disappointing. I cannot abide paying for text and data plans. Maybe if I decide to move to VZW I will finally break down and get FB or Google+ and use those for "MMS" texts.
I know whenever I get a text via Google Voice it shows up in my Handcent SMS app. Do you want me to do some digging and see what my settings are? Or am I missing the point?
Edit: oh I see now, your talking about MMS not SMS, sorry I guess I can't read and comprehend right now. It must be getting late for me lol.

Sprints MMS for Google voice is different because you merge your Google voice account into your mobile account.

Not from the GV number. You could from the new reassigned VZW number.
well that sucks i was trying to avoid using any other kind of number..maybe i should reconsider keeping my old number
Rumor is they are working with Verizon on gv mms support but for now its only sprint as mentioned. The hack is indeed to fwd gv copies to email as a way to get the mms content.

One thing that needs to be mentioned about how Sprint and GV integrated is that you only have one number. I haven't heard about Sprint members getting MMS when they have a different GV number than their cell #. Remember how this works. If you have 2 numbers then you send and receive MMS from the actual carrier number. On Sprint once you "integrate" your Sprint number, there is only one number being shared. There is no forwarding from one number to another. So when someone sends a MMS it falls off GV and going right to the same number on the cell. I am pretty sure there is more to it. But in simple terms, there is only 1 number being shared on Sprint and GV. If that makes sense.

Well known. GV has never supported MMS except on Sprint "integrated Google Voice" accounts.

uh, it's one way but it does work with verizon.
you can get MMS (and it gets emailed), but not send. Not sure when the send parts coming but it's more people being sticklers for how they want to send it(who needs it as a text message, truly?)
You will only be able to "see" it as a fowarded email if it has been sent FROM a sprint subscriber. http://googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/first-steps-towards-mms-support.html And yes if you are on sprint yourself and have chosen to INTEGRATE your sprint and GV #, MMS are recieved like normal on your stock native messaging app, not in the GV app.
I looked around and found similar-ish issues but not quite the same... I have a VZ GN and normally it works well, I get texts with just "Contact Name (number of texts)" but ever so often I will get a text with "Contact Name (xxx) xxx-xxxx" where the phone number is nothing even close to correct - weird area codes especially. then I'll have two threads from the same contact - one correct but one bizarre.
I've added the phone number to the contact in the past and it doesn't come back, but now I'm really starting to wonder WHY this is happening in the first place.
Thoughts?

If you're using the stock SMS app (rather than the Google Voice app) to send/receive text messages (using your Google Voice number), you'll see exactly what you're describing. The number you see will basically be a forwarding number used by Google to get your message to the right person.
From what I've seen, the number will be unique to each contact, but won't have anything to do with their actual number. Everything will be correct on their end though, and your messages will be exchanged with the correct recipient.

Right, and I am using the stock SMS app - but I don't think I'm using GV. The only thing I use it for is visual voicemail (forward all calls to GV which then get routed back to my phone) but I have it set so all my calls use my regular number. People don't text me on my GV number... I don't think...
Hmmm...

You can check at http://voice.google.com. If you see the messages there, they were sending them to your GV number.

Indeed they were... Not too sure how someone who sends me texts every couple days all of a sudden uses my GV number that's been stored in their phone for months, but at least I know what's going on.
Thanks!

text message spam, for the love of god dont reply with your email address
If you have sprint
Create a new message send to 9999 and write only the following
" block then number " wont receive anymore messages from that number
Then create another message to 7726
Then just put the phone number in the message are and it reports spam to sprint
Pictures below for examples

If you use Google voice you can report the number as spam right from the app and also block it from future contact.

What about the one from a washington number with the cruise ship horn blowing? Then they tell you you have won a free trip. I get that about once a month.
Any number
When the doorbell rings, don't answer it!
Does anyone know if there is a way to apply the SPAM protection feature used for incoming calls on text messages? I'd like to figure out who sent a text from a group message. Thanks

SMART spam protection only works for calls, not text messages. You can't make it do something the app/service wasn't built to do.
As for finding out who sent a message you can use Google or other apps (to name a couple: Mr. Number, privacystar, youmail) to search for the number.
Keep in mind this doesn't guarantee you find out whom the number is associated with. Some providers (MVNO, etc) don't register a name and associated number with CNAM.
