I know that in order to switch prl files you need to be on a sense rom I just don't understand why. My question is, what is the benefit of sense over non-sense or vise versa? Is there a better performance or signal from one or the other? Seems like some people are hardcore for one or the other.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Better? You're asking an opinion question. Sense works just fine in my opinion.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Yes its an opinion question as well as a stats question. I'm trying to decide what to go with. My job takes me places with poor signal. I can change prls with sense so that I force to Vzw towers, but does non-sense rom provide any better reception? That is my main concern above looks.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
I have found that Sense takes up more memory since it is an add on to the stock android. Some people feel that all of these extra apps and code that come with Sense slow it down. Sense also comes with apps from HTC that people just love (the Widget Clock is one). If you do not like the Sense overlay and use another launcher then the need/desire for Sense decreases
I prefer Sense-less and for a long time I was running tommytomatoe's Classic. While it is a Sense ROM it also comes Sense-less. The latest version allows you to remove Sense once you have installed the ROM. What I liked about this build, besides its stability and speed, is that it had prl update.
From what you have said, this may be the ROM for you.

I personally hate sense but as far as overall for reception and data/wifi speeds your probably gonna get the best results as the firmware was designed specifically for your device
The only thing I don't like about Sense is the crippled bluetooth. It looks like HTC has fixed this in the newest EVO as people are reporting the bluetooth now works with wii remotes and Sense. If only there was some way we could get it fixed for the OG.
If I was non-sense then there would be no way to force to Vzw prls. That to me is a good trick while I'm at work. Is there anything that can be done on non-sense to help signal strength?

Nothing that would come close to what you get with Verizon's prls.. go with SOS you have so many different options with aroma installer you can make it just how you want it.. it sounds like that'll be the best bet for you

It's sense 3.5 and so far I have experienced no bugs, great battery life and way better speed than BAMF. And why does anyone use BAMF in the first place? I used BAMF for a week before discovering newts inchd and it was ok and all but it wasn't as fast as inchd and its an older version of sense. Plus BAMF had more bugs(or bugs in general) and inchd has better battery life. Just my thoughts.

Also sense 3.5 is more polished than 3.0 and there are noticable changes coming from sense 3.0. It looks way better.

What do you mean why don't people use it??? Most of the people who do went over to his forum when he left xda. And I agree. It's the sickest ROM period.

Lol, and I respect most people here, although I also understand his frustration with the trolls and stuff. And like taebom said, all the main ROM teams use their own sites for bug reports and support and stuff. So, I can see both sides of it, and I hate that he left. I appreciate what the devs here do, especially considering they do it for free mostly. I love that I can play around with my phone and not be afraid cuz I know some people here and there that'll help me with just about anything.

Skyraider Zeus is great if you're looking for stock mixed with the favorite sense 3.0 aspects. Very well done, and supports GSM.
This ROM is based on sense 3.5 which is actually an unreleased version. It's more refined IMO, and a lot better put together.
Downsides would be in SZ, you don't have the eye candy that is DINC2HD, but with DINC2HD you can't change lock ring. In all honesty, its all preference. Both ROMs are very well put together. I personally would recommend them both to people depending on what they were looking for.
For me, DINC2HD is my daily. I've found it hard to change to anything else.
Hope it helps

I'm just not that into Sense, so I spend a lot more time on the AOSP ROMs. But I've given pretty much every Dinc2 ROM a spin, and I actually agree; Newt's "Incredible 2 HD" ROM is easily the best Sense-based ROM available for this phone. Not trying to hate on BAMF, but I think Newt wins out.

It just seems to be the most complete. The least amount if bugs, and the funny part is its a test ROM sent out by HTC. I say they're finally on the right track. This also has more free RAM than the sense 3.0 ROMs I've tried.

Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
Well, definitely not as much as MIUI lol. Around 160-ish after a while. It's not huge and I got better on stock, but considering what all this does over stock, and how I was getting closer to 100 using sense 3.0 I'd say its running smoother. Plus, its android so free RAM means much less than on Windows.

If you're looking for a sense-like feel, why not just go with a sense ROM? I personally use Synergy ROM and everything works super fast, no issues, and service seems to be better than when I had CM7 on it. That and sense ROMs also make full use of the phone's hardware, such as the camera...
The support and extras are a pretty sweet deal, as well.

Signal strength is not universal. You can have the same signal strength on your phone but it will display as a different number of bars based purely on your ROM. CM seems to be one of those ROMs where I have a really good signal yet I'm only showing about 2 or 3 bars. Its just the way the ROM displays it. Flashing another ROM and getting more bars doesnt mean your signal strength is any stronger or weaker at all.
Also, if you're looking for a sense feel then just get a sense ROM. There are a lot out there to choose from. I'm actually thinking of running Boot Manager on my phone and flashing a sense ROM alongside CM7 so that I can make use of the abilities of the sense ROMs when I need to.
I switch between Fresh 4.22 and CM7 pretty regularly and love battery life/performance of both. I use Tiamats 4.1 SBC on CM7 and the stock kernel on Fresh, although it would be choice if there were a Sense SBC kernel.

I keep coming back to Mik's roms. On MikG now and love it. Battery life is great too but then I use all the app tricks I can find. App2SD / DroidWall / SetCPU / StartUp Auditor. If your signal strength is bad just call Sprint and ask for an Airvanna. Once it's hooked up you should be up to 4/5 bars constantly. That's been my experience.

The ONLY reason I would go back to a sense rom is for the camera.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk 2
Sense is heavier so AOSP roms will have better battery life. Sense has its widgets and camera. I don't know if it's better for CM7. 2 but I had multitouch issues with CM and MIUI and aerovan v. 7 kernel so that's the reason I switched. You should try it and see if you like it or not. Personally, I love MIUI but I can't live with the multitouch issues so I changed to SkyRaider Zeus

Sense 4.0 with GSM
Do you know a Sense 4.0 ROM for GSM?
I go back and forth between sense and CM7.2 Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Sense bluetooth works WAY better for me, but I like the customization of CM7 and the quickness.
Magnolia and Skyraider Zues have been my favorite sense roms and gotta give it up for Condemned's CM7 rom.
Your mileage may vary of course..

I've read various threads where people discuss that the use of an AOSP-based ROM resulted in poorer radio performance, and some saying that this persisted even *after* flashing back to stock or other sense-based ROM. The latter is what is keeping me from trying out any of the AOSP-based ROMs available. I don't want to irreversibly worsen reception, because I really, REALLY hated dealing with that issue on my Galaxy Nexus.
Any thoughts?

You need to remember that AOSP roms are hacked together for phones that were never meant to run it. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from flashing those roms since that's up to reach person, but no AOSP rom will ever run as good as a Sense rom. It's just the nature of things.

I've yet to see any sense rom run better than a nightly, let alone a stable build (from a pure performance standpoint)
As far as the OP- Signals will be within 0-5db depending on the rom, and that's only because we're on a CDMA device with a closed source RIL.

I don't just mean signal. I mean in general. You will never find an AOSP rom for a non-nexus device that has everything working on par with the stock rom.
There are always things that are slightly buggy, or require some sort of hacky workaround or whatnot.

Some will say yes, but they are using the subjective "bars" and not the actual dBm to check ratings. I haven't noticed any change in signal when I used it in the past on CM and whatnot.
I've had terrible signal strength lately (using dBm numbers) and wondered if something was wrong with my phone until I read this. Are there any other threads discussing the issue and possible solutions? If I can't fix this I'm going to have to get back to a locked bootloader and S-on and swap the phone out. -110 signal as a norm just isn't cutting it.
I don't see the bog deal with the higher numbers. Here are my numbers on sense. They are no difference thsn what you are getting on aosp. One is in a better coverage are where the other is on the front. I notice no difference in performance of the data.
The higher number one had it jump to 116 but does not interfere with tethering. You can try to swap out your phone but doubt they will do it and most likely you live right on the edge of the 4g coverage. My pictures shows sense and those are the same numbers I got while on aosp.
