I'm very sorry this is such a noobish question but i was wondering if i could get some help by the people who know what they're doing.
So far what i've done is the following
1- Unlock the bootloader
2- Install Clockwork mod recovery
3- Flash 1.28 firmware
4- Install custom rom (leedroid) + flash boot.img
5- Root phone
Now i've descovered my phone has a few issues and i am entitled to send it back for a replacement.
Could someone tell me the order of how i can undo all the above. I have a nandroid of the original rom. Do i flash that first and then go from there? I need it to be exactly the same as when i first bought it.
Links to guides would be great. Thank you for your help

If you have a nandroid backup when you flashed custom recovery then restore the backup and relock the bootloader.

Thanks,
Once i've got the nandroid backup done do i flash the stock recovery, then relock the bootloader?
So once thats done no one will be able to know anything has been done to it, correct?

They can still tell that you have unlocked the bootloader because it will say "RELOCKED" and not even flashing the RUU for the carrier of your phone will do anything because it will still say "RELOCKED"
Would that stop a UK company from exchanging my phone for hardware defects?

I am not sure. HTC reckons we void the warranty by unlocking the bootloader. But if you have bought it from a shop they tend to just turn the phone ON and look at the problem and they should swap it for another handset or give you a refund. Sales person normally don't get into the bootloader to check out anything. They more than likely have a look at the problem with the software or hardware defects. But if they decide to send it back to HTC then you might not get it replaced.
Ok,
Thanks for your help mate
Hope it gets replaced with one with no issues!
Also forgot to mention once you have restored your nandroid backup, flash the stock recovery and then relock the bootloader.
If you have a nandroid backup when you flashed custom recovery then restore the backup and relock the bootloader.
And if one happens to be the sort of complete fool that forgets the nandroid backup because they were too interested/ wrapped up in all the adb stuff to have remembered this what does one do with a 3 phone? Are there no 3 ruus in the wild at all? None listed on the file forum place.

I have to admit I am such a fool. But lucky for me my phone is unbranded and has the HK 1.26.708.2 ROM which is in the list so that saved my ass. But for 3UK you might have to wait a bit until someone uploads it. I'm pretty sure it will appear sometime just don't know when.
im in a similar situation apart from i installed ARHD rom and i do have a backup of stock rom from when i installed cwm but my problem is, i flash backup and then flashed stock recovery but when i lock the bootloader and reboot i get greeted by the 1st htc logo then the screen flashes and the same logo appears but under it is some red writing that says something about being a development build and then it boots its self into fastboot but then if i unlock bootloader again the phone boots backed up stock rom fine!?
mines getting picked up on tuesday but i suppose on a plus side a courier is dropping me a replacement and taking my old one away at the same time, so unless the courier starts booting into hboot i should be ok lol
Give me half an hour and I can upload it for you.

What's it supposed to be?
Ok guys, so today i flashed the nandroid backup but now i'm just stuck at the white HTC boot screen.
No idea what to do next?
Is it because i was on 1.28 firmware and restored down to a nandroid with 1.26? Is it because i haven't flashed stock recovery yet?
Really need help as i need this done before tomorrow UK time.
Thank You
bump.
I really need help now.

Hello,
A few days ago, I asked a question on this forum about how to root my Wildfire S after the update to 2.14.401.1 but with S-off. Some gave me a link to another thread where it worked for him. (A link to a thread on xda forum). On androidforums.com, someone sayed to me I could still use Zergrush to root my phone, but is this true? Before my phone got bricked, I had unlocked bootloader with s-on and rooted with HTC Supertool V3 (and there with option zergrush). But will this also work if your phone is s-off and after that new update or should I use this, what the guy on my question here gave me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1616326 . I hope this was understandable. If not, just ask me what you don't know.
Thanks in advance!

This is at least the 3rd thread you've opened to ask this question. Just root the phone already!
Like I already said in the other forum, there is no rom-specific way of rooting your phone. Since you are s-off any method will work including the HTC Supertool . Skip the video tut because it's not very complete. If you're not sure of what you are doing, find a good guide that is complete that you can follow.
Rooting doesn't brick phones. Noobs messing up their ROMs after rooting does. Make sure you install CWM Recovery after rooting and do a backup before messing with your ROM or installing a custom ROM to avoid another trip to the phone shop.

I prefer flashing it from fastboot. I know a couple folks that have softbricked the phone flashing from the app. I think flashing from bootloader/fastboot removes some variables.

So if I follow step 5 here: http://androidforums.com/wildfire-s-all-things-root/480954-guide-how-root-wildfire-s-s-finally.html , there will be no reason that I brick my phone and it will work?

They are by the way saying here, how to flash it via the app: http://www.htcwildfiresblog.com/2012/03/clockwork-recovery-mod-htc-wildfire-s.html . I think it will also work, am I right?
Title says it all. I know that with S-OFF, things should be easier than with S-ON. Nut this is my first Android device and even if I read different threads regarding rooting/flashing, etc., things are still complicated specially because the guides are specifically made for S-ON devices - which is understandable, I know. Considering that the existence of S-OFF HTC One Xs are almost a myth.
It sounds like you do know that S-OFF is not generally available for the HOX. So, do you have S-OFF and what specific things are you trying to figure out?
Here are a couple of simple things:
if you have S-OFF, then when you flash a ROM from recovery it will also update the boot.img so you don't need to flash the boot.img separately in bootloader mode.
If you are flashing an hboot, you don't have to the fastboot oem lock first.
The OP has an S-OFF One X and has NO idea what he's doing...complete waste of an S-OFF device IMO

All you have to do is follow every other guide that's on here, the only difference being you can flash any RUU you want if you need to go back to stock. There's not a lot to it
And just cause I'm an RC doesn't mean I have to be nice

Unlock bootloader - do i need to do this? do i have a reason to go to htcdev.com if I want to install custom ROM on my phone? do i need an identifier token?
Custom Recovery/Clockwork MOD/SuperSU - is this essential so I can flash a custom ROM?

Oh, i know that one! Had to flash a RUU after I got stuck on boot trying to install a custom ROM. Anyway, S-off or not, do I need CWM? Because that's where I think I got wrong. I never heard of clockwork mod before I installed this custom rom. Now I am reading this guide but it doesn't mention where I should put the recovery.img before I flash it.
Yes you do. Having s-off means you can fall back on any RUU to go back to stock. Other than that you follow the same guides as everyone else

You shouldn't have to do the htcdev unlock
If you want to flash any ROMs or make system backups you must install a recovery such as CWM or TWRP
Perhaps Titanium backup is a not must, but I would highly recommend it. That has nothing to do with S-ON vs S-OFF. It's a very useful tool for backing up your applications and other information. The paid version is well worth the money.
In general, as was mentioned before, you can still follow all the guides step by step. It's possible that some steps don't apply to you, but it won't hurt to do them. If you aren't sure what you are doing then it's better not to guess about which steps to skip.
I have got to the part on installing a custom recovery, but it says NOT ALLOWED. I asked some recognized members and some said that it is not enough that I am s-off to flash custom recovery, that I should also unlock bootloader.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
OK, that makes sense because you have to flash recovery from the bootloader. I think it would save you some time and confusion if you just pretend that you have S-ON like everyone else and follow all steps of the guides you are using.
If you do that, including unlocking your bootloader, then the main difference for you will be when flashing a new ROM from CWM or TWRP since the boot.img will get updated. With S-ON that can't happen from recovery, the boot.img can only be flashed from the bootloader screen.

When having S-OFF you have to give the command on whicht partition you want. As I heard you can't say recovery or something.
I managed this with the application "Rom Manager". Also S-OFF device. But for flashing a CWM through "Rom Manager" you have rooted your phone first.

Some devs don't include the boot.img in their rom zip so you'd still have to flash it separately with fast boot.
To unlock your bootloader simply type fastboot oem unlock, unlike s-on phones, you don't require the unlock file from htcdev.com

Hi Stuart,
Even if the boot.img is included in the zip you need to flash the boot.img separate isn't?
What I'm trying to say is, it doesn't make a difference if they include it in the zip or not, if it's not included you only need to download twice.

Copy boot.img into the same folder where the fastboot or fastboot.exe executable file is.
Reboot your HTC One X into Bootloader Mode.
Select Fastboot from the Bootloader menu.
Connect your HTC One X to the computer via USB cable.
Manually flash the boot.imgfile you have extracted earlier. Open a command prompt or terminal on your computer and type the following command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

as I understand from your statement that you havnt rooted your mobile and you are still at original RUU ROM, if thats true you may have 2 options only ,
1- re-install the official RUU for your device or
2-return it to the repair center

Ignore that, or any advice that says to unlock your bootloader to do so unless you already have unlocked it.
If you are fully stock and are not willing to void your warranty by unlocking or flashing anything report/return it to HTC as a fault.

What a ridiculous statement.
I quote the following from HTCdev...
"Unlocking the bootloader means that you now have the ability to customize software on your device. Please note that changing your bootloader can cause significant issues with your device and once you have unlocked your device, you have agreed to the disclaimer that states a change in warranty status such that in the event you render your device unusable, you are responsible for the recovery of your device, whether by repair or by other means."
Which clearly translates to...after unlocking your bootloader you are responsible (must pay for) any repairs. There is NO qualification as to whether carrier purchase makes any difference ANYWHERE in the T&C's.
There is substantial evidence ALL over the internet and REPEATED advice from ALL quarters that doing so VOIDS the warranty.

A custom ROM will be pre-rooted.

So here's a question for you tech experts.........
Say I unlock/root & S-OFF an HTC One M8, and right after I do all that, I save a backup in TWRP. Then for whatever reason I decide to get a new M8 to replace the original one. Can I use that same backup file on the NEW M8 phone? Meaning, by flashing it on the new phone via TWRP, will my phone automatically become unlocked/rooted & S-OFF'd?! Or do I still have to manually do all that over again?? I don't need or want to do it in reality, but just wondering (like in case I ever lose my phone, etc).
Thank You,

You will have to do everything from the beginning. I wish it would be that easy Then noone would have to pay for s-off and everyone would use your TWRP nandroid to get it
A nandroid can be restored if the phone is the same type of phone (international to international, Sprint to Sprint....etc etc) you must first unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery to restore the nand.

What you propose would be impossible to do, since you can't install TWRP with a locked bootloader.
But no, nothing that is backed up on a nandroid involves the bootloader unlock or S-off (you can't "migrate" them with TWRP). Of those, only root will carry over (as that is contained in the ROM).

Red,
Ok that makes sense. So after unlocking the bootloader and gaining TWRP Recovery, I won't be able to migrate S-OFF (or unlock), but I WILL be able to migrate root?!!

So wait, you're saying it CAN be done if you're dealing with the same exact phone?? I don't mean about all the settings and app settings stuff, I mean about retaining root and S-OFF?

No you can switch over the software and nothing more. All unlocking stuff need to be done from scratch.

So after unlocking the bootloader and gaining TWRP Recovery, I won't be able to migrate S-OFF (or unlock), but I WILL be able to migrate root?!!

Are you currently on a custom ROM? If so, they are pre-rooted by definition. So restoring a nandroid of a custom ROM will give you root, yes. But so will flashing any custom ROM on the new device or just flashing SuperSU/SU.
Even if on a stock ROM and rooted, I believe this will also migrate over if you restore a nandroid to a new device.
But in any case, root is a simple thing once the bootloader is unlocked and custom recovery is installed. It takes about 2 minutes, so whether you can migrate this or not via TWRP is really a very minor point.

Red,
Yeah I use ViperOne M8. Or do you just mean am I running things on a rooted nandroid recovery? The answer is yes to that one as well. The one I'm using now is unlocked rooted and S-OFF'd.
So basically again, I HAVE to unlock b/c that's the only way to get TWRP access, but the root can be quickly obtained via flashing my custom ROM. And of course S-OFF must be repeated because that can't be simply flashed the way root is.
Well I think it took me longer than 2 minutes, but still, I'd rather just flash it anyway. lol
Thanks!!!

Yes, whether you restore a nandroid of a rooted ROM, or flash a rooted ROM, SU or SuperSU is contained in the ROM. So you will have root.
