Hello all. I am seeking help in trying to rid of a reboot bug that has been plaguing me for almost a month. I am not sure if this is a hardware bug or a software bug, but I had never encountered this problem before. I bought my phone two weeks after launch day.
Ok, first of all, I was on CM9 Alpha 4 for a week when my phone started rebooting itself at random times. Also, if I pressed on the power button to lock my phone, it would instead bring up the power menu. If I pressed the power button again it would reboot or reboot 1 minute later. I was getting more than 5 random reboots a day which affected my battery life drastically. Thinking this was a software issue, I used sfhubs EG30 full restore one click to go back to stock. Unfortunately, the bug still remained and my phone still had these same problems. I flashed Calkulins EL29 rom, and Blazer rom as well but the reboot bug still remains. Has anyone else experienced this or do you think this is a hardware issue? Any help would be appreciated.
By the sounds of if you might have a problem with the hardware power button
That can explain the reboots, your device might be hard rebooting because it thinks the power button is pressed in.
Any warranty on it?

That's what I had in mind, thanks. Yes, I have TEP. Will I have to pay for a replacement phone?

I had random reboots because of kernel, dont know about the power button. Try to ask on xda.

That's where he is . Lol but he tried many different roms all of which gave him the same problem, so I think its hardware related.

Had the same issue with another phone, stuck power button can be really annoying. Just making sure though...do you have a full body case on the phone? I did that once and my case was actually depressing my power button when I squeezed the sides of it!! Just something to check.
If you decide to get a replacement, consider using the factory warranty vs TEP. I think TEP has a high deductible. Bringing it to the Sprint store so they can do the warranty for you should cost about $35. Ask about turnaround time also.

So a few times a day my phone will start bugging out, vibrating and the same menu that would pop up if you pressed the menu button would come up. I find it pretty weird, I can't reproduce it but it comes and goes.

This kinda sucks because I have a feeling it's a hardware issue, I'm over my 14 days and I'm scared that I might get a phone with LOS. Damn I thought I almost got away with a problem free epic.......

Same is happening to me, I made a thread about it and no help, might be a hardware issue.

tonight mine freaked out a little bit but not exactly the same as yours. My phone appeared to freeze up for a few seconds and then anytime I pressed any of the capacitive buttons the voice talk app would say "what would you like to do?" I had to reboot it to get it to stop.

I Google's it a bit and it looks like others have this issue as well. It used to only happen once a day but lately it's more often. Issue seems to be getting worse. I know for sure tho when I bring it to sprint it won't happen at all and I'll have to argue with them.

Well front desk girl almost ate this phone.... I felt kinda bad abt it afterwards.. Repair guy stayed behind the glass window... So after some pressure, they decided it was a hardware issue with the touch screen, an replaced the phone.

Yea, I get this issue every now and then. Some of the ROMs give me less frequency, but it always seems to happen again.

Damn, that doesn't sound right. I wouldn't wait if it happens anymore. If you don't have insurance, will they charge the $100 deductible?

I guess my question is: If I take the phone apart, can I get to the power button? Earlier today my phone started rebooting itself like it had been hard reset (power button for 8 seconds..) and wouldn't even make it past the "Galaxy SII" screen before it reset again. I ruled out any software problem after I got rough with the power button and it stopped. But, now when I lock or unlock my screen the power button gets stuck again and causes the endless resets. I'm wondering if I can take my phone apart and mess with the power button from the inside to maybe clear things up a little. Hope I explained that clearly enough. Thanks for any help!
Take it back to the sprint store and have them fix it! I bet they could fix it in no time.

Thanks but I thought of that already. I have it rooted and ROM'd and what not. Can't access ODIN or recovery because of this too.
I don't think they will care. I bet they fix it no problem

Sadly, no.
Maybe just have them fix the power button!
Hi,
I just bought a Pebble Blue S3 from craigslist without checking it out properly. (I know, shame on me). The phone is in physically mint condition, the water damage tab is not red and there are no signs of dropping.
The phone's screen does NOT turn on. When I hold the power button to have it load up normally, I can hear the T-mobile jingle and then a constant blue indicator would stay on the top left corner.
I have tried flashing it back to stock through download mode (Power, volume down, and home --> volume up mode) and it seems to make no difference to the screen's issue.
Flashing it back to stock might have made it worse because I can't even access the phone's internal memory through USB anymore.
Any help towards fixing my screen would be great!
Thanks.
So out of curiosity how much did you pay for a phone that you did not check to see if it turned on?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I paid $250 for it, came with original box and accessories. I thought it was too good to be true, and it seems that way. At worse I can probably break even and sell it as-is.
Is the battery low?

What does windows report it as in device manager?
If you can get to download mode it may not be hard bricked.
You could flash twrp recovery with idin, then boot recovery and try flashing something from thrre.
Also twrp has a builtin file manager so you can try to see if you can find sny problems that way. (Look for logfiles)
Are you sure its an SGH-T999?

I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark.
Positive it is a SGH-T999, before I flashed the stock PDA in ODIN, Windows Device manager would list that. How do I flash TWRP? Do I need the screen to do it?
Oh the battery is fully charged.

Here is the thread for TWRP. But you get to download mode by starting with the device completely powered off, then pressing the volume down, home and power button at the same time until it powers on. I dont understand what you meant by "I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark"
Button mashing I guess?
And just fyi, to boot recovery from power off
Hold volume up, home and power. When you see blue text flash on top of the screen release.
Also, flashing recovery in Odin will trip the flash counter. Prob doesn't matter considering the situation, but just so you know.

If you can get the phone in download mode, odin back to stock. Then boot into recovery using power +home + vol up and do a factory reset. This step is important. I borked my phone with a bad jb install and using odin on its own doesnt completely reset the phone. Using the factory reset fixed this in my situation

By saying I'm able to access recovery mode, I got in by basically doing the sequence of buttons, without seeing any display on the screen. I know it is in download mode because it reads on ODIN.
No matter what I click or what mode it is in, the screen is still completely off. Sorry for the confusion.

Well that's a different story lol. Seems like a hardware fault. If you feel comfortable, take it apart and check all connections. And use a very bright light to look for any cracks on the LCD (not the digitizer) but the underlying LCD.

Is there no way you can contact the seller? Woulda been the first thing I did!
You may not resolve anything but you could at least try to find out what they did to break it in the first place...then have some fun and blow off some steam till they hang up on you!
Just a thought.

I've had Samsung service my SGS1 that I bought off Kijiji while it was still within its one-year warranty. It doesn't just apply to the original owner, just call them and tell them it was a gift, they'll ask for the phone's IMEI, and then they'll be able to tell if it is still within its warranty period.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a shot!
I am not new to rooting, but I have a pretty serious problem it seems. No matter what mode I boot into (download, recovery, OS), the phone just shuts off after about 10 seconds. Obviously this makes restoring anything impossible.
This is my brothers phone, and at first I thought it might be the battery, so I tried mine (i have the same phone), but it does the same thing. Also does it if plugged in. The phone is rooted, on a recent CM10.1.2 build, but this just happened out of the blue, not after a flash or anything.
Any ideas? Or is the phone toast?
Could it be the power button getting stuck down? A Few others have had that happen.

I'm not 100% sure that's what it was, but slamming in on the table a few times seemed to fix it (at least temporarily). Also, it was turning itself on after a battery pull and reinsert, so that makes a lot of sense.
Thanks a ton for your help!

I have the same exact problem for my galaxy s3. I opened up mine and took the button out and it is still doing the 10 second shutdown. I think it's the power switch on the motherboard. Does that sound correct anyone ?????

Could be...
I think s good test for this is to remove/replace the battery and if it turns on on its own after putting the battery back in, its likely a power button related issue.

Its in apx mode, full on brick. Needs a new motherboard or repaired by Acer.
The person who I got it from advised it has already had its motherboards replaced by acer... I don't believe they tried to root or flash anything... It belong to a middle-aged wife... Is there anything that could have caused this

Read through the brick thread, its exactly what happened to yours. In short, Acer uses a faulty memory module and it dies at random. Some say even out of warranty it may be possible to get Acer to repair it, the case needs elevated, but as you didn't originally purchase it, that wouldn't be particularly ethical, but worth a try if you want.
