Gents,
I've done some searching, but I'm still a bit confused. I've got a TELUS HTC Desire which I want to load a custom ROM on. I've successfully rooted the device with unrevoked3 and have CWM as a custom recovery, but I can't find a way to S-OFF the system.
The HBOOT is 0.93.0001, which isn't supported by revolutionary, as it's a CDMA device. revolutionary says it needs 1.06.0000 for an HBOOT to S-OFF CDMA Desires.
I found one thread that suggested using the official HTCDev Gingerbread RUU to upgrade the HBOOT to 1.06.0000, however, I can't find a Desire 2.3 RUU on the site; it's all Desire S and Desire HD images for 2.3.
So three questions:
1) Root via unrevoked3 isn't sufficient to load a custom ROM correct? I'm looking at sandvold's ICS ROM right now...
2) If I unlock the bootloader via HTCDev, is that sufficient to allow me to flash custom ROMs?
3) Is there some other way to gain S-OFF for this particular device?
Device HBOOT Specs:
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 0.93.0001
MICROP - 051d
TOUCH PANEL SYNT0101
RADIO 5.11.05.27

Now I'm feeling like I might be stupid... TELUS said this was a CDMA device, but it's got a SIM card, and I'm seeing (in an unrelated search) that if the HBOOT says 'BRAVO' it's GSM, and 'BRAVO C' is actually CDMA...
Anyone confirm?
according to your hboot screen provided this is GSM device
1> You should be gain root via unrevoked if you are on 2.2 android... some problems been reported not working with 2.2.2
2> Yes you will be able to flash custom recovery but you will be locked on stock hboot(250-40-147) and unable to update radio
3> to gain s-off use revolutionary
If you use revolutionary.io you don't need to use either 1 or 2
yes bravo gsm and bravo c cdma. revolutionary does work with hboot 0.93xxxxx and 1.xxxx cant remember what the numbers are lol. just pick ur device bravo (gsm) in the drop down menu then pick hboot 0.9.xxxxx the type in ur s/n and generate beta key

Thanks guys, got it working with Revolutionary 0.4.
One note, you have to use the 3.0.0.007 HTC driver package linked in their documentation. If you use the latest HTC Sync drivers, it won't get root.

I also have a Telus Desire, yes it is most definately gsm.
Telus and Bell jointly launched their hspa networks together (they actually share the same network) in November 05, 2009. Both networks have NOT launched cdma devices since. Both networks also run iden networks, and lte (4 different networks). CDMA devices were pulled from stock late 2011 and are no longer being sold, even though, rumours aside both carriers do not have official plans to shutdown their cdma networks.
Sorry for the Clif Claven post, but the Telus Desire and Desire HD, and Bell Desire Z etc are all gsm phones as are any phones launched on either carrier since November, 2009.
Edit: When both carriers launched the hspa network, Rogers made a big deal of advertising that Bell and Telus were not going to be, or ever would be "gsm carriers" as their networks were hspa only (no edge to fall back on). Niether Bell nor Telus were "legacy" gsm carriers. Thought I would post that before someone else came up with a correction. Anyways, just a matter of terminology like the 3G+ / 4G debate. If its got a sim card, it is gsm....stand alone cdma phones never have sim cards. Belive it or not, when Rogers and others were storming up the debate there was alot of "but will the new hspa phones have sim cards?" threads on various Canadian forums with alot of cdma haters saying "no because hspa is not gsm!" I am glad those days are behind us and those guys were proven to be idiots!

So US Cellular still does not have a RUU for the BravoC (CDMA SLCD) Deisre. I have two identical phones - one stock that works fine so I could create a goldcard from it. The other is rebooting with the motherboard issue HTC has and of course, is rooted and S-OFF. Can I unroot and set S-ON on the broken phone with just a goldcard and no official RUU? I believe the Altell RUU is also for the CDMA SLCD Desire - would that work with the goldcard and get me back to stock?
No, you need the RUU
Hi all, so the US Cellular RUU is out and that is cool. I have a broken Desire that I would like to get fixed under warranty. I flashed the RUU and it un-rooted my phone but the bootloader still shows that the security flag is off (S-OFF). Is there a way to set S-ON? I rooted and set S-OFF via unrevoked. On their page is has said that S-ON is coming soon - but it has said that for a long time. I also have another working Desire so I can get anything off of that if needed.
Thanks,
Pete
I am technically inclined so I will try pretty much anything to get this thing setup with the security flag on again.
A way to contact the unrevoked team?
Anyone know how to contact team unrevoked? I am just wondering how soon the 'coming soon' is for S-ON for the CDMA Deisre. Thanks in advance..
I just attempted to set s-on for my CDMA Desire with the unrevoked-forever-son.zip. It errored out with an incorrect radio message. Is there a way to set s-on for my BravoC Desire? Wondering if there is a radio I can use?
Don't think you can get S-ON again at the moment, you can go back to stock ROM-wise with the new RUU

This is exactly correct - I flashed the Alltel RUU that downgraded my radio to a version that unrevoked-forever-son.zip is compatible with. I attempted to run the update from within recovery and it gracefully told me my device was not supported. So I am on to waiting for unrevoked to add s-on support for the CDMA Desire.
I'm waiting for S-ON too. S-OFF broke my MMS (maybe s-on will fix it) but I need to take it back to bluegrass.
Hi,
I've read a few similar threads here, but there is no answer for my case, so i dare to ask you.
Briefly:
HTC Desire, locked and branded by Orange UK,
Froyo 2.2 - offical /OTA?/
Rooted
Bravo PVT4 Ship s-off /now is off, after the root i manage to turn it off, originally it was on/
HBOOT 0.93.0001
Radio 5.10.05.30
MICROP - 051d
So, the other thing is that i bought just a phone and the seller didn't know is that phone is with SLCD display ot AMOLED.
I want to flash with Stock WWE ROM or some custome one. But in all of the instructions here for debranding and so on for the LOCKED/BRANDED Desire it is said "NOT working for 2.2 /OTA/"
Is there a way to manage my Desire to be a stock, non-branded and unlocked* phone?
*I've purchuased an unlock code, because the thread for the unlocking here just did not helped me at all.
Thank you in advance.
It will say whether its slcd or amoled on the box, if it doesnt mention amoled then its slcd
To debrand you need a gold card, follow a tutorial, or download gold card helper from the market.
Run this and get you mmc into a gold card, then run a generic RUU and wait for it to install, this will debrand your phone
For root use unrevoked google it,.if you get an error download version 3.21. This will give you s-off, so you can flash custom roms using recovery
Hope this helps
Regards
Vengeance
(any questions just ask il try to answer them best i can)

Hi, I rooted my branded orange slcd desire without a gold card.
1. install the htc sync tools then uninstall it - The drivers remain
2. Download the desire custom root file - available on XDA (use search)
3. Install unrevoked making sure usb debugging is enabled - click file and use the custom root file downloaded earlier
4. Connect your desire and let unlocker do its magic and your rooted.
you can S-off after this process but it is not necessary if your using a standard sense rom
Pick your rom of choice and install
use the debranding tool on xda
regards
Hi I was one of those unfortunate people that had rooted my phone before the 1.72 update for my t-mobile / htc desire z
Going into hboot it says it has the aforementioned hboot, s-off.
Radio version is 26.10.04.03_M
Is this version still able to get su rights by flashing it with an earlier rom? Do I have to bypass certain steps from the guide here ?
Or do I have a higher brick risk? Phone is running ok but I would like to experiment with my phone a little bit. Later this year my contract ends anyway...

When ever I insert a sim it says network locked, I have read and followed some of the instructions on this forums with no luck and success in getting it unlocked. Im a noob whose been eager to learn the trade and I always come to loose ends, can anyone just point or direct me how to do this in a way I can do this successfully? Thanks you very much... I really appreciate you guys for doing such hard labor answering all of these questions.
Little background would help. How did you get S-Off, or did somebody else do it? And "followed some of the instructions on this forums" isn't very specific, there are several methods to S-Off and root.
gfree will give you S-Off. But not sure if you can run this if you are already S-Off.

Gfree gives u Sim unlock. You probably just have fake s off

It's all in the Wiki. S-OFF is not the same as SIM unlock, that's a totally different issue (but is often addressed at the same time as S-OFF etc).
So it seems you have some sort of S-OFF, but are still SIM locked.
