Is tethering sever controlled now? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm on the latest aokp build and T-Mobile is blocking me from tethering. I've tried many apps. Nothing gets past it.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Kinda old news.
The days of free tethering are coming to an end. Its never been part of T&C, but we've gotten a free pass. TMo is simply starting to enforce T&C.

That's super gay... Have to pay to use the data on anything other than the phone... I can see why they did it from a business point of view. But stiffing the customer is never right... I somehow got myself grandfathered in so it was only 9.99 to add tethering. No idea how, I've only been a customer for 6 months.

Proof that you used it.
Not proof that you weren't pirating files or torrenting or doing excessive roaming usage.
All of which are valid reasons for Sprint to ban you from their service.
At either rate, take it to the sprint forums.

You know what, you are the exact type of person that completely disgusts me.
You take advantage of companies that are doing the right thing and are giving us the benefit of the doubt that we can be intelligent, responsible adults and have self control.
Sprint doesn't give us unlimited data so some jerk can compensate for his manhood issues by getting that usage number as high as possible and then boast about the abuse on the internet.
They do it so we can use our phones as intended without the need to second guess our usage.
You are quite literally ruining it for everyone.
As far as I'm concerned the carriers should create lists for people like you and ban you from ANY service with ANY of them.
I sincerely hope that you ARE downloading pirated files and you are taken to court over the matter.
Grow up.
Thread reported.

Well if i was downloading torrents, Sprint would have seen that and i would have been banned a long time ago, so guess what i am still using your bandwidth and i am still on Sprint.

I like how people blame this one dude for their slow internet speeds or possibly the disappearance of unlimited data. How many people do you really think use this much data? Not enough to force Sprint to change their data plans.
Sprint will change their data plans because they need the money, not because 5 people are using 100gigs a month. Call Sprint and talk to a rep about all their changes, the answer I always get is their aligning themselves with the other carriers so the only think they have left is tiered data.
Sprint loses money every qtr so they figure Verizon and AT&T must be doing something right. So let's raise our ETF fee to $350, get rid of the the premier program, raise the admin fee, remove discounts from any lines over 2nd, then remove discounts from the 2nd line as well. Do you really think Sprint will keep unlimited data for long? Do you think when they change it it will be because a few people use an obsessive amount of data?
Seriously, if you want to blame anyone, blame the idiots who made the iPhone what it is today. All these changes started to come when everyone knew the iPhone was coming to Sprint.
Sure the OP is a jerk and just posts these things to get a rise out of everyone, but I don't know why people let it get to them. You guys should really go to the iPhone section and yell at those dudes for all your wonderful changes.

how much intellect and maturity can you guys really expect from someone with an avi of an android's **** getting sucked by an inanimate fruit?
I personally don't have a problem with someone who wants to test the limits of what "Unlimited Data" means. Hey, it's his right to give it a shot the same way it's SPRINT's call to give him the boot if they think he is abusing their service.
In terms of the little beef with the self appointed SUPERMOD Matty: bringing someone's dead relative into a dumb argument over using Sprint's data is going too far. You could have come up with a less personal come back than that man. Just my $.02
I think we're done here. Would be nice if the intellect and maturity level would go up - but maybe I am asking too much.

Unlimited data w/ teather works :)

I switched my plan from 5gig to unlimited... they told me u can't hotspot/teather with this plan... last night I tested teathering out by 8 gigs of download ... no throttle... all used by WiFi hotspot...
It's AWESOME.. I don't plan on abusing it.. I just like TO NOT BE THROTTLED...

word, good lookin out, been on tmo website the past few days bout to pull the trigger but the 2 year reup kept me from it, the positive input makes me think i can possibly kill the home wifi thru clear aka sprint and their lil 6mb up more like 2 at best 4g wifi hotspot unit. the only thing ill give the clear hotspot cred on, ive used that thing to some insane #s on classes up at the local juco and had other kids on to max out all 8 hookups and never been throttled...not that theres much wiggle room for them to throttle, and im talkin some sick monthly usage GBs lol not that i care about the students but ive been known to cloud transfer my entire harddrive from one of my laptops in KC to my vegas locale, and lets just say the ol tmo 10gb/mo plan has been throttled on me b4 with oh 3 and a half weeks b4 my billing cycle was up lol thanks for the heads up

I read a huge thread explaining all the fine print about tethering. But even worse, Verizon and att MUST allow free tethering as said by the FCC. I'm honestly thinking about researching everything getting all the details sorted out and bringing it forth to the FCC. Cause apparently the way they tell if you're tethering is by packet sniffing. And from what I understand, that's illegal period. Even if it's included in the TOS. That's my private data they are sniffing.

Well, one still can resource to connect via VPN..
I am thinking to just upgrade from SGSII to the newest II; i like the fact the screen is more crispy; at least what i saw in store. With my SII in 11 month I never had problems with thetering but I only have used it to connect to internet my laptop at work to read email or to the company web portal for ticketing closing and management, only few minutes at the time..
I really don't know if the jump is worthy...I got old Juggernaut v3.7 on my SGSII...had it for 11 months now..if i upgrade, will pay full price for the III.
I have been downloading ROMS all evening. At 3 gigs so far and no cut off yet. rooted stock

What should I charge?

Hey guys,
Sprint just cancelled me for tethering and I'm just gonna go with a Nexus 4G so I want to sell my phone and accessories. I'm pissed I JUST bought my micro sd and anker batteries! The good part is the phone is a week old from an insurance claim so it's immaculate. Anyway, here's what I'm selling:
E4GT rooted w/latest Jellybean leak
2 Anker 1800m batteries w/external charger (also 3 days old)
Aegis Trident case black
Sandisk class 10 32GB micro SD.

At first they said excessive roaming, but that was bs because I never leave home. So they investigated further and said it was due to "tethering without a tethering plan." No warning, nothing. I woke up and was shut off this morning. I love downloading full albums and movies. I suppose I could have challenged them for having "unlimited data" but screw it. I'll get a Nexus 4 off contract w/Tmo unlimited 70 bucks a month.

It was probably roaming while they are doing NV upgrades. If it was really for tethering you wouldn't have gotten out etf free. They would have either opted for you to add tethering or would have just added it to your next bill. What tethering app were u using?

Technically they can't tell you were tethering unless you were using the sprint hotspot. They can *claim* you were cuz of desktop protocols, but just tell em your browser on your phone is set to desktop user agent which uses the same protocols as your desktop browser. Most likely you were roaming due to the upgrades going on and whatever carrier you roamed on claimed you were tethering. At least you didn't have to pay the etf.

Android to android is even more incognito than android to windows/linux/mac, but the more advanced phone browsers and apps become the harder it is to tell the difference between mobile and desktop data packets. I would say in the next 5 years all internet capable devices will be using almost identical protocols to access the web which means all data would look the same to anyone sniffing packets. I'm grandfathered in on an unlimited tethering plan on my work line and I use upwards of 100GBs a month on it for work and I tether my personal line (same account) to my tablet and laptop and have been for 3 years and sprint never says anything. Between the 5 lines on our account we average 250GB a month.

Just wondering if Sprint is about to crack down on tethering or if it was roaming which we all know they crack down on. Sprint Roaming Compliance Team

I talked to Sprint on the phone a little bit ago about my service and bill (it was $30 over) and the rep told me I have been going over on my data roaming, no kidding considering my phone stays on roam (Sprint service not my doing). He tells me on Monday I need to call their roaming compliance team to figure out what to do about it. So is this it? An I getting the boot from my contact? I don't really know how the issue can be "fixed". And I'm not changing my usage habits, I only use around 2gbs a month so it's not like I'm hogging the data or anything.

Yeah that's not going to be an option then. Well it looks like I'll be paying more for service here in the near future. I'm surprised that they do this out of the blue like this. The rep mentioned some warning letters that I never got, but that just sounds shady to me.

Well all i can say is it's in the TOS. If you break anything in those TOS then sprint has every right to terminate their service with you.

Yeah they are well within their "rights" to cancel my contact, but a little warning would've been nice. Hopefully they'll at least give me till the end of my billing cycle.
