Extend the LED notification time - HTC One X

Hi, I don't know if it disturbs someone, but when you've got a notification, the green LED doesn't blink a long time. I want to know if it's possible to extend this blink time ?

I've looked all through my HOX and I can't find any way to change this. It really bugs me also, what's the point of a notification flash that only lasts 5 minutes? Seems like a very obvious omission.

I think there is an app from market that can do this

I'd be very happy about a way to extend the time!
Which App???

There you go, this should fix it for you

SMS LED Notification

Hey, i was just wonder if this is normal or not but about 5 minutes after receiving a SMS the LED will stop flashing even though i have not turned the screen on yet to check it
is this meant to happen and if so is there a way in which i can change it to continue flashing any amount of time until i check my phone?
Thanks.
I think with the Handcent SMS app you can set 'reminders' to every 5 mins. So it should continually flash till you check it then.
I've not actually tried this but the theory is there!
thanks for the quick reply, but i was hoping there was a way with the default messaging program
Annoyingly, I don't think there is. I'd recommend having a look at Handcent though, it's a cool app.
that's rather annoying, but o well i guess, other then this I've been loving the phone
Try Missed Reminder from the market. Works good on my device.
I asked HTC about this, and it is is true, the LED flashes for 5mins then stops.
I didn't like the Handcent reminder simply because when it restarts the notification, it makes the sound like it's got another message. I just wanted to know I've got something to check rather than hear it go off every 5mins or whatever you set it to.
But this is a personal annoyance. I can see that many wouldn't mind this.
Missed Reminder was another option to definitely try to see if it's for you.
Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give Missed Reminder ago, seems odd that they wouldn't allow for a option to let it flash for longer, is this only for SMS or does it also stop after 5 mins for all LED notifications?
all notifications stop after 5mins. What's the point in having the led?

Yeah..5mins for sms/missed call...constantly if your battery is low
Are you guys sure that the LED stops blinking after 5 mins? In hTC's there is an option in settings (I forgot where exactly) which will allow you to set different times, 5,10,15 mins and even there is an option for continuous blinking. So please recheck the settings (in sound & notifications maybe) and then confirm it.
Thanks.

That was the case for Windows mobile phones. there is no option in android to set this.

That is so weird. Isn't there any solution for this?
The Missed Reminder app does the job. You can customise it quite a bit. I just set all notifications to blink the LED forever.

Tried this app, but doesnt work correctly. Sure it will continue to blink the LED, but the notification sounds do not work correctly - i.e they dont sound on reapeat alarms. Shame as it looked a nice app.

I have no plans yet to release a special version for 2.x at least not until I’ve got my phone updated to 2.1.

LED Notification flash - Not working?

I haven't fully tested this issue yet mainly because I've only had the phone for a few days... I wanted to check if anyone else had this problem.
Under Settings -> Sound & Display -> Notification Flash
I have all the options ticked.
In theory, whenever I have a missed call or a SMS or email etc, I should be able to tell that I need to check my phone be a little blinking light in the top right corner off the screen. I just came back to my phone and this LED wasn't blinking but when I turned on the phone, there was a missed call and a SMS.
Other times, it seemed to work fine.
Anyone else noticed this problem?
it only flashes for 5 mins and then stops. There is no way to change this without additional apps.

Oh... How disappointing. Pretty useless imo. Thanks for the info. I wonder if they will fix it. My previous phone, Touch Diamond, had something similar but it never stopped flashing until you looked at your missed calls.
Now that explains things. I tend to look for the led after I've not used the phone for a while. In my pocket or elsewhere. Quite a few times I've seen no flashing but have a notification in the top left. I thought it was another one of those little 'features' we keep finding.
Yeh i discovered this awhile back and it's annoying as hell, i just use a app called Missed Reminder which can be configured to allowed it to keep flashing indefinitely
I was just going to make a post about this. I thought the LED notification wasn't working at all on my Desire, since I've never seen it, but perhaps it had just stopped before I had the chance to catch it, then

What apps are you referring to? It would be nice to be able to have the LED flash longer.
I'm guessing this is to save battery time, I don't know how much power a small LED uses but it surely can't help with the already abysmal battery life
I first thought the LED was located behind the optical trackpad, because the trackball on my Hero could light up. I think the LED-notification is pretty dumb since it's almost invisible when it lights up. The lighting trackball was much much better
This is a known issue. I thought that did not happen in Android, but I guess I was wrong.
If the phone work in Windows Mobile, there are a registry key to let assign values to the options, so they are usable.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4846399#post4846399
In Android, I have no clue... maybe my info help in any way.
PMoto
It would be nice to be able to change the flash time from the default 5 minutes, or atleast an option for no time limit.
I know it's to help save battery life, but I'm willing to say that the light flashing will use less battery then the back light coming on everytime I'm away from my phone for more then 5 minutes, from me checking to see if I have new messages, email, or missed phone calls.
Same issue with my recently purchased A40.
No blinking at all despite screen flash notification selected.
Hope someone can help

If you're using FRX7.1 it already does it.
Mine flashes green when I get a text or voice mail and red (orange?) when I get an email.

Indeed, to the first part. FRX07.1 now has userland control the LED's instead of the sleep state.
So this is what I've noticed thus far. When plugged in, the LED will be orange for charging below 90%, and green when above 90. The notification I believe trumps it tho, and AFAIK the only notification from email/text/etc should be green blink. The only time I've seen orange blink is when the battery is critically low! Pretty sure that's all the feedback it provides, let me know if you guys see something different.

oh! until now I have knew that why the LED turn on green while I 'm connecting it to PC ( firstly, I don't why and it turn on green only when battery 's full ).
Dear Arrrghhh,
as my idea it turn on orange while it's connecting to PC ( sync or charge a battery if the power less than 100%) until to 100% the led will become Green it notice for user know that battery 's full )
Could you please create more function as same as WM while connecting to PC, I thing it will be longer life of battery
it's : user will have 2 choices ( agree or not agree charge battery while connect to pC)
The LED deosnt work for me only when I charge my phone but not when I get a text

Uhhh... mine definitely blinks green when I get a text. Perhaps I have it backwards and when it's plugged in that notification trumps the other...? Are you using some 3rd party app to handle texts? You get no blink on or off the charger? I don't know why it wouldn't work for you, but does work for (literally) everyone else.
You didn't change anything with FRX07.1? Nothing? Just want to make sure, because if you did something like move to an old rootfs, userland notifications won't work properly.

My experience is just the opposite, charging (solid, orange or green) trumps notification (blinking). That's how it works in WinMo, so it wasn't a surprise to see the same in FRX.

I'm using K9 email which (in theory) lets you set the LED color, but no matter what I use it's always orange.
I do also get blinking orange for critically low battery.

Perhaps that's your problem? Dunno. You'll need to do some legwork if you modified the way the system handles text messages.
I use Google Voice and the stock messaging app for MMS. Both work great, and notify me correctly. As does the built-in GMail app...

...You just removed it from the app drawer right? You didn't actually remove the apk from /system/app did you...?
If you did remove it from /system/app, just pull the apk out of a fresh system.ext2. Or just throw in a fresh system.ext2 file, you won't lose any data assuming you leave the data.img untouched/intact.

But why? If it happens on all htc devices running android, why so?
And is there any way to change it?
I was wondering this question too. Is there no way to change this? It seems very pointless to not have any options for when to turn it off/keep it on (5mins, 10mins, etc, never). If anyone knows of an app or setting that could fix this I'd be willing to try it, it's my one, huge complaint about this phone (even my 4 or 5 year old blackberry blinked forever without issues and battery drain). Are there no fixes on previous HTC devices?

all HTC devices is false, it may (don't own a sensation) just be the one series, my HTC desire HD kept blinking until the battery ran out.
not sure why nobody has fixed this but since most of the rom/kernal wizard's are playing with the one-X and have not fixed it i'd say it's not as easy to fix as we'd all hope.
it is of course utterly useless, if i'm playing a game or i'm at work the chance that i check my phone within 5 min of anything happening is slim to none a really mind boggling decision from HTC.
perhaps they just opted for cheaper notification LED's in the one series and this is there way of making sure they don't burn out any time soon.
is it not to do with the phone going into deep sleep?
Easiest solution is just install Missed Reminder from the marketplace. It will keep the LED blinking for as long as you want. Works a treat on my HOX.

hmm odd, i've had my desire HD blinking before i went to bed (couldn't be asked to check it) and it was still blinking in the morning, and there were many occasions where i just ignored it and it kept blinking for hours.
then again my desire HD was S-OFF with ARHD and another kernel within a week of when i got it, perhaps ARHD or the kernel changed that
Missed Reminder is not working on my One X with Stock O2 Rom
Tried "Missed Reminder" but it needd to be turned on each time I soft reser my devic, it doesn't auto start, and secondly it only works for sms and miss calls, there are tons of other important notifications like facebook, email, viber, whatsapp ,......
Tried light flow but it sucks on One X, waiting for working release, I believe this is the best approach
Tried other applications, same as Missed Reminder but it does autostart
So no soloution for One X for now apparently, and still waiting for working Light Flow
I just saw this thread, and recognized the problem I have, too.
Desire that I had before had persistent and bright notification LED, while HOX seems to be failing on it.
The only notification I get is when battery is fully charged (green LED).
There is no charging notification, or missed call notification, or received SMS/email notification.
First, I thought it was the ROM bug (RENOVATE 3), but I see now that it's hit others, too.
:crying:
Reading through the thread I realize there's nothing we could do to fix it?
Or I missed something?
Kinds of to blink or not to blink dilemma here.
Either sides would get some people complaining about it..

Notification LED not working properly

My notification LED is not working right. It gives charging indications fine, but when the phone is asleep it doesn't alert me to emails, texts, missed calls, etc. Doesn't seem to work at all.
Notification Flash is enabled across the board in Display & Gestures, and I don't know where else I would enable it. I don't want to use Light Flow after reading here that it doesn't work. Anyone else have any suggestions?
It's a Virgin Mobie One V in the USA.
Indicator light only works for 5 minutes for missed calls/texts so perhaps that's why you're seeing it as 'not working'?
Yeah that would probably explain it. Any way to change it? 5 minutes doesn't do me much good.
Not a dealbreaker but a bummer if that's just the way it is.

Yeah it only works for 5 mins, and it's due to the stock kernel. It's probably to save battery, so yeah..

okay... the five min timeout irked me too, but if you have go sms pro there is a workaround... well, at least for texts.
advanced settings ->notification settings ->default notification settings
near the bottom you can enable reminders. when I tested, the reminder triggered the LED as well as vibrate, or tone... and you can choose to have the screen light up again or not.
hope that helps!
