Hi, another noobie question, I am going to buy the xperia arc s , can it be rooted and over clock like the one I did on my current xperia arc? Is the whole process from root to flash EXACTLY the same? Most importantly, can doomlord's #10 be installed too?

sir, I have xperia arc lt15i locked boot loader, never rooted , updated to 4.0.4 from pc companion software. Now I just want to root this phone, so went through many threads , and confused in the dillema that if I have to download whole 4.0.3 rom for xperia arc then flash it, then root it, then again flash the whole 4.0.4 rom, or just have to download only kernel and do the above process.
If just kernel can be used for the whole process ,then whether arcs kernel can be used in arc, because every where in the forum, only arcs kernal's link are posted and no arc 4.0.3 kernal was found by me.
Please clarify the process and doubts, it would be a great help.
Thanks in advance.
There was no 4.0.3 for the arc, that was for the arc S. The arc was directly updated to 4.0.4.
So yes, you need the 4.0.3 kernel for the arc S.

So no need to download whole 4.0.3 rom ???
No need to download the whole ROM. Just the kernel is fine.

I was rooting my arc without unlock bootloader, Can I install custom ROM if my arc ICS rooted only ( no unlock bootloader) ?

There are a few ROMs that work only with CWM and stock Kernel, but most need unlocked bootloader.
You can flash Stock-based ROMs with a locked bootloader.

Try with Mooded 90.1 or JJ's Hybrid Rom, are best of BL blocked
JJ hybrid is really nice

I have a similar question. I was able to install CMW recovery into my locked bootloader Arc S.
Does this means I can install custom roms using it? Or to flash custom roms I still need the unlocked bootloader?
Thanks.
Yes scandals if u installed cwm u can install few roms. You can install arconium, all versions of mooded,90.1 works very well, arconiu muiu,jj hybrid rom those are the ones i tested and i can verefy that they are working on a phone with locked bootloader.Make sure you follow the instructions or u will screw your phone and u will have to flash the original ICS rom

I have unlocked my bootloader from the Arc whit the testpoint method, using the s1tool, so I don't losing the DRM.
For who want to do this, its only for the Arc, not the Arc S.

But it does unlock a few Xperias.
..
You can use omnius for the arc s but it will cost some money.

See the first link I gave you.
First link applies only to Arc, not recommended for Arc S.
I am new Arc S owner aswell now, also interested in unlocking via test point method, however I see information that LT18 is not supported by this method. Can someone tell me the real truth?

Bootloader unlock is independent of any firmware on the phone. It is also SEPARATE from SIM/network unlock. Your phone does NOT have to be rooted. SIM unlocking your phone does NOT unlock your bootloader. Flashing your phone does NOT SIM unlock or unlock your bootloader. (However, when you unlock your bootloader with the paid method, the SIM/network unlock is also removed.) SIM/network unlocking is ONCE and PERMANENT and not affected by any firmware.
This works for ANY 2011 Xperia: arc/s, PLAY, neo, neo V, pro, mini, mini pro, ray, active, Live with Walkman.

If S1Tool is from SETool I don't see why it wouldn't work.
